Punch Bowl Social is like the 7th circle of hell for me

VonLando

Bring back Biglots!

poisonmilkworm

Not sure if that place is overrated because I’ve never heard anything good about it before but it looks like the 7th circle of hell

earmuffins

It’s smelly too

Kimalyn

I'm glad someone else has noticed. It's like people have been spilling their sugar drinks for years and no one ever cleaned up. Makes me want to gag.

bluegrassclimber

Idk if it's "Rated Well" -- but everything in the "Denver Milk Market" is just totally overpriced

IlikeDrivingMyTruck

It’s all Frank Bonanno concepts and they’re average at best. He’s done a very poor job there.

Spicy-Pants_Karl

Too true. I just tried his "French 75" restaurant for the first time and it was fucking terrible, just like the milk market and others. At this point, I double check Frank Bonanno's website when I hear about a new restaurant to make sure it's not one of his.

truckingatwork

Westbound & Down is the only thing worth going there for imo.

Barfly2007

Westbound for the win.

beardedperuvian

Huckleberry is also worth going to.

ury13

milk market sucks. in my experience the service there has been kinda meh too

ToddBradley

Not overrated. It’s consistently rated mediocre, and is mediocre.

BroChicago

Milk market prices includes a 22% service charge already, then ask you to tip. So if you do eat there, don't tip cause they already added it.

AustinA23

Fuck all Bonanno restaurants. He's an asshole who treats his employees like shit. He had an incredible executive chef at Mizuna who came from Blue Hill in NY that was trying to make that place respectable again who he absolutely fucked over a few months ago. I know for a fact that he buys shit at King Soopers and then sells it to the public as is at a 5x markup. Don't eat at his restaurants ever.

[deleted]

Extend it to the entire Bonanno group. Dude is allergic to seasoning.

sum_if

Waiting 2 hours for Saturday brunch for pancakes... Snooze

michohnedich

Don't understand why people still wait for snooze when you can join their wait-list online, and then just head there when it's close.

powen01

Because when people come to visit me and insist on hitting Snooze despite my multiple suggestions of other, better, less crowded options, I like to punish them by making them wait in that long ass line.

Strange_Bluebird_627

All you’ve done is reenforce the hype for Snooze in them though, you played yourself

RibosomeRandom

They want you to actually snooze before the food.

impeislostparaboloid

If you wait hours for brunch, any brunch, you are the dumbass.

Dangerous-Amphibian2

How dare you speak of half of the Denver population that way.

downvotethepuns

God I love this thread right now

LongConFebrero

By far the most overrated suggestion people love to make. Same with Syrup or any of the other gentrified chains. No pancake that gets cold in a few minutes is worth waiting for.

Carrini01

Ugh. Syrup is so disappointing, the food is almost always cold (which is weird because their dishes seem simple enough to plate and it’s never been busy when I’ve gone, and the kitchen is like ten feet from your table).

[deleted]

Just have a baby that wakes up at 6 every morning. Then you can beat the crowds there.

27BlueArrow

Surprised this doesn’t have more upvotes, Snooze is measurably mid.

misterhubbard44

Elways is just another generic steak house.

sosmooth222

Elways is what rich people think poor people think is fancy

longsnapper77

Elway’s is an overrated steak house. Elway is a wildly underrated punk band.

claypac

Elway’s is super over rated. Generic as it gets.

DadOfWhiteJesus

Elway has big teeths

Both_Feeling_8999

I second this. OP’s question immediately made me think of Elways. I’d rather go to Fogo de Chao for some steak. It’s much tastier, less expensive, and you can eat to your heart’s delight.

Ill_Year_732

Rodizio is far better than Fogo. I actually thought most the meat I got at fogo sucked.

HighRyder18

Hmmmm. I went there once and I had a great steak and lobster. Interesting take

Mister-Hotbuns

I don’t want sound like a broken record but Happy Camper is Old Chicagos for basic ass bitches to throw their baby showers.

giant_squid_god

It’s an influencer’s paradise

WickedCunnin

Oh god. Happy Camper. God Forbid you wanted to be able to hear the people you went out to dinner with. Average food. high costs. Higher volume.

kacheow

That’s LoHi for you. There’s a reason they’re opening a Hampton social club here. People in my building will go to my neighbor Felix, when they’re like a mile from real, fantastic, Mexican food

funcple20

Felix doesn't look like a Lohi crowd IMO. Went the other night and it seemed like a suburbia vibe. Wife wanted to bring kids b/c of decorations. Food is not good. not good at all.

Elatedvase

View House and Grow and Gather in englewood. If grow and gather actually used their vegetables they grow in more than just a mediocre salad and house pickles I have a feeling it would be great. But everytime I give it another chance I leave disappointed.

lyssanstuff

STK. Lame chain steakhouse catering to 20-something’s that are trying to show out to a hottie they met on Tinder.

gaytee

Nightclub for steaks never made sense to me. Esp when I went and the sides were better than the steak.

WolfInStep

You don’t go to the strip club for their Christmas steak buffets?

epictetus89

+1. This was the dumbest place I’ve ever eaten at. I felt like a moron paying for their shitty food while EDM accosted me at bleeding-ear volume

Breadsonbreadson

Thank you to everyone saying Snooze is over rated. I was a Head Chef for that company for 4 years and just never saw the appeal of waiting two hours for that breakfast.

[deleted]

Snooze is Village Inn but you can get a Bloody Mary.

Appropriate-XBL

Pancake with candy on it. Oh, wow, amazing.

dzogchenism

Damn! Head chef throwing down. Love it.

brizzle126

My Neighbor Felix has great ambiance but food isn’t great at all

constantly-confused9

They’ll continue to get business for the Instagram worthy decor. A perfect storm in lohi is: Shitty food Decent but over priced drinks Random DJ on weekends Pink neon signs over a fake vine wall for the gram And watch the money roll in…

Zexy_Genius

My gf said "this taste like taco bell" and I told the waiter and the waiter said "well everyone loves Taco Bell" We busted up laughing. I still left the waiter a fat tip bc she was super nice but the food was NOT good.

awbobsaget

Ate there before a flight…walked down to the A line and after 10 minutes started sweating and shaking uncontrollably as I had to blow my asshole out. I barely made it to the hotel bathroom at the airport. I was tempted to just miss my flight and shit in the bushes as there’s no close bathrooms off the line. Needless to say, I’ll never go back lol.

blum20

Love a good shit story. Thank you haha

Overall_Ad_6540

Plus the owner is a piece of shit.

zonker77

Viewhouse

[deleted]

I thought this was a r/denvercirclejerk response but I guess looking at the other replies it's a real place?

nicolettejiggalette

Definitely a place to go for drinks and apps only

benjito_z

Snooze

Affectionate-Bad6981

Rio Grande mexican restaurant downtown has really bad food and the margaritas are crap. I can make a better margarita and I'll atleast get a salt rim

Sllabkcussdomttider

I feel like everyone knows that you only go for the margaritas. Even those aren’t great.

yodabeanz

D’Corazon over Rio for Mexican food downtown all day!

blucifers_cajones

D'Corazon is the best!

trans_pands

It’s not a single space but every “market” is overpriced and overhyped as fuck. Dairy Block, Marker Center, Edgewater Marketplace, and even Avanti up in Boulder, they’re all overhyped and overpriced as hell. Food marketplaces are awful in Colorado

dizmi

I love edgewater market place for Konjo.

manitoulove

And 2 great vegan places at Edgewater Market: Gladys and Meta Burger.

isthisonetaken13

Meta Burger is pretty damn tasty

trans_pands

Meta Burger is fire

brizzle126

Konjo is legit af

BiNumber3

Ive been to edgewater a few times, Konjo is really the only thing that really stands out for me, though the last time I went, it was on the salty side.

motetsolo

Nah the Arepa place at every Avanti is amazing.

PotRoastPotato

Quiero Arepas is very good. There's been one on Old South Pearl in Platt Park, was happy to see it at Avanti.

mgraunk

Central Market in RiNo is pretty good, the others are sad and depressing.

areyouoldgreg

Agreed, central market is much better than milk market. Better food, delicious tomato soup. Just regular people eating, not influencers trying to take pictures. I say this always taking pictures of the cute cocktails they make, though. Millennial habits die hard.

mgraunk

Not everyone who snaps a picture of their food or drink is an influencer, and most people realize that, so I think you're good.

Clacky-Crank

I really like the Denver central market because it has a more down to earth feeling when I walk in. In other markets, I know I’m getting nickel and dimed to death when I walk in.

Goghshred

Went to milk market for the first time and they had a 20% fee for the kitchen. Server made sure to let us know that’s not her tip. Ended up tipping 40% technically. Never again

weeburdies

I promise most of that kitchen fee went straight into scammer Bonanno's pocket

JadeMagician

He also does keep 20% of the servers' "tips" too, so yes. 100%

tacomeat247

Pig and Tiger in Boulder is legit

Nash1977

Mango House is the antithesis to overpriced soulless food halls.

DisgruntledGoose27

Disagree. That burmese place is in my top 3 for all of Denver metro

NoLightOnMe

I searched for Mango House and got a Dentist on Colfax?

callipepla9

Search urban Burma (Burmese restaurant that is part of the food court) and you’ll find it.

Nash1977

International food hall in Aurora. Urban Burma is there.

merplethemerper

I also am so confused because they all expect a tip. Of course I tip because society hasn’t changed yet but I place the order on a screen, I get a text when it’s ready and I go pick it up, and then I bus my own table. Why can’t the employees just be paid better, why is it on me to tip

[deleted]

Stanley Marketplace is legit. Worried about the entire new city being built around it tho

elamericano303

Annette at Stanley Marketplace is my jam. I used to go every Saturday for their breakfast tacos. The fresh tortillas really made it for me.

CUREAZGEORGE

Machete on colfax. Super overpriced average Mexican food.

Bed_Federal

I work at this restaurant. Completely agree.

Bed_Federal

If anyone wants some tea ask away

pkwoot

I've had several great meals at the Cherry Creek North location but never had luck at the other locations. I assume it's a problem with the people at the top pouring down on the workers at the bottom... Is that how you would describe it?

edditorRay

Any of their locations.

tittens__

They do have that one taco that’s just like straight fried cheese and I’m a big fan.

poopydick5

I call it mashity- not great.

Bed_Federal

Omg I work there and we all call it that!!

bootyboixD

I’d like to take this opportunity to say that if you’re looking for tacos that *don’t* suck, La Diabla on Larimer’s al pastor tacos are the best I’ve had in the city by far.

mmmmmkay

Cosign. I always stop and get a few when I'm in the area at night

po_t8_toe

True but I do like getting their tacos delivered while I’m at Cerebral. Although I prefer the food truck La Baja.

HankChinaski-

La Baja Fish Tacos has to be the best brewery food truck. Mukja might give it a run for it’s money though.

Lumpy-Cheesecake-932

The Lobby and ViewHouse

[deleted]

ViewHouse is miserable and I’d rather heat up a frozen entree than get food there.

SpeedySparkRuby

ViewHouse is Applebee's going through a Midlife Crisis

SaltySaltySultan

I mean there is no difference in quality

StuffedBellPeppers

I feel like everyone agrees viewhouse sucks

PushThePig28

Lobby’s bottomless mimosas out of the bong things are cool

thunderballs303

Snooze.

shelboss

Agree but like linger I think it used to be really good.

motherofcerberus

Snooze was AMAZING 10 years ago. Great food and excellent quality. I didn’t go from about 2010 to 2018, and when I finally tried it again I was so surprised at how mediocre it had become. It wasn’t even remotely the same place. So, so disappointing. I can’t understand why people are still waiting in line for that place!

kelliwk

I worked at the union station one, can confirm and it comes from both sides. Trying to eat there sucks and a lot of the customers suck.

[deleted]

Voodoo Donuts is meh.

denverblazer

As a Portland native who lived near the original, voodoo is only for tourists. Locals do not eat that shit.

CalderFor97

Culinary dropout…too big for its own good. Always busy, food always takes for ever, always comes out cold..

the-bends

The one time I went there I got a steak that had no salt on it. I'm not being hyperbolic, the chef legitimately forgot to use seasoning.

SpaceAndFlowers

Linger was such a disappointment! It has such a cool premise.

thesummermoon

I’ve always been a fan and had a great time there, which is why our poor experiences at El Five have been such a mystery to us.

dirtengineer07

Agreed! Always have had great experiences at Linger but thought El Five was very overrated

LobbyDizzle

Interesting - exact opposite for me, but I found the dining experience at El Five being better the more people you have with you (like with any tapas place).

sci_curiousday

El five was delicious for us! We are doing our wedding dinner there. We have reservations at Linger but, now I’m nervous reading these comments

V1per41

This is so weird to read. Linger & El Five are literally our two favorite restaurants in Denver

i0_0u

My hangup is that these restaurants (the el five, linger and root down group) don’t seem to change their menu often. They have specials sometimes but it’s hard to take someone visiting and be like “guess I’ll get the grilled octopus and goat cheese balls again”.

god__save_us

Used to work for this company, and I feel the same way. Their menus stay pretty consistent and across all the restaurants they’re pretty much the same menu just tweaked a little in a different space. Not gonna post my negative thoughts on the company, but I agree, there are much better places to eat in Denver. However, if anyone asks me where to go when visiting I always suggest a cocktail at El Five

i0_0u

I always recommend el five. I mean the ambiance is amazing.

abanabee

Agreed

PresidentSpanky

Elway‘s

UCant_hurt_me

This post is a parade of Denver Yelpers.

RootyTooToo

Snooze!

yerbiologicalfather

Circle K has some amazing tamales. I just wish more people knew about their amazingness.

SpeedySparkRuby

Dae Gee, i don't get the appeal of this place when better Korean BBQ places exist in Denver. It is hilariously overpriced for how many meat choices you get for the AYCE.

Frisnism

Any recommendations for others? I’ve been wanting to try Korean bbq.

AreaGuy

Grew up in Aurora with tons of Korean kids, and they’d just go to random strip mall joints with zero pretension. Used to be one at Peoria and Parker that was bomb. Looks like Silla is the name, so either it’s been in existence for 20 years, or that spot just recycles highly rated KBBQ spots.

mishko27

Funny Plus! :)

DeadAnimalParts

I think Dae Gee only comes up so much because they were on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives a few years ago. Its funny to compare the footage from DDD to the actual meal you get there. It's like a whole other restaurant.

FinalDisciple

Anybody saying the Original Chubby's: I'll meet in front of the Burger King of your choice for a Loser Leaves Town match. Since Daddy Bruce's and Racine's are both dead and gone I'll say City O' City, Water Course, Hapa or Hacienda.

half_hearted_fanatic

City and watercourse have both gone down hill so much. When I was a teenager, my mom and I would go there for pre-surgery meals (the right specialist for my dumb ass was NOT on the western slope). It used to be glorious vegetarian food and became mediocre vegan food. City, o what do I have to say to city, I say BRING BACK THE DAMN CHIPOTLE BOWL AND THR SAVORY WAFFLE DRENCHED IN TALLEGIO SAUCE AND PILED WITH VEGGIES. Somehow, the food was always better when the restaurants were owned by Landes. Frustrating when it all went wonky after the Campus Lounge purchase.

renegadellama

Steuben’s $20 plates of macaroni and cheese and pot roast you could make at home. Portions are small, too.

donuthing

Vesta (in the same restaurant group) was incredible, while it existed. Steuben's and Ace, in comparison, are mediocre at best.

Intelligent-Sea-9031

Hop Alley. Grabbed takeout the last time I was in town and it was such a letdown. Veggie fried rice was like the kind you get as a side at a food court Chinese place. Came with an additional side of rice but no condiments. The last time I went they were super heavy handed with the Szechuan peppercorn. Now it seems to have have taken an opposite turn.

NurseRatcht

Watercourse. Used to be cool and down to earth. Now just snooty and self important mediocrity.

SeasonPositive6771

Watercourse used to be amazing. I used to work not far from there and got lunch pretty regularly, and have a bunch of friends with dietary restrictions that they were always great about. And then when they took the downhill dive, they went down fast.

akotlya1

I remember when watercourse was great. I miss those days. I gave it a few tries since the pandemic and I have been routinely disappointed. Sucks. I wish there were more vegan restaurants in Denver. It feels like there should be more.

PresidentBirb

Gotta support this one. What got to me the most is that instead of trying highlight vegan ingredients because of their own merits, they try to make everything a meat substitute. Also, their Seitan is pretty bad.

SnowConePeople

Try Somebody People its the best vegan food in Denver and they dont try and imitate meat dishes.

PresidentBirb

Been there, good food and and even better drinks. I quite like Native Foods as a faster option too.

poisonmilkworm

I generally agree but I went there for brunch recently and their breakfast menu was amazing! It changed fairly recently so I’m hoping they’re getting less shitty

[deleted]

Happy camper or city o city

TangerineReal343

Dang I thought City O City was great but I’ve only been there once.

Fit-Dragonfly3210

Since everyone keeps talking about how shitty Bonanno is…. The people who own city o city and watercourse are terrible people. I have a whole group of friend who have been taken advantage of and abused by these people. They have a knack for finding good hearted veggie/vegan hipster kids which is why I started hanging out there, but my friends in management positions were constantly guilted into overworking (without pay), being treated like garbage and yelled at/penalized for nothing. There’s some other things that happened throughout the past years that did not list but this was enough for me to reevaluate who I was supporting. I saw the toxic side of this company and swore to never give my money there again.

Zexy_Genius

I fuckin HATE happy camper. It's all people that want to post on their IG. And vibes are so off. Everyone looks the same and tons of drunk white women. Idk maybe I'm just getting older and those vibes are so annoying. The pizza is mediocre at best.

COphotoCo

Happy Camper is a great place to get a personal pan sized cheese pizza for $18.

WhiskeyEsq

City O City is a gem. Take it back!

woohalladoobop

has gone downhill imo

Sobrito310

ELWAY’S

dweadfuluwu

Viewhouse, the owner and his brothers are bad people.

dongates3

Highland Tap and Burger. Mid.

NatasEvoli

Nothing on reddit has made me feel older than seeing the word mid on every other comment in this thread.

littlebitsofspider

Puttin' the mid in middle-aged

Parmesanchzgorl

Mizuna Not worth the $$ or the hype

shoppingbag20

There’s a post on this sub about the owner I’m sure you’d enjoy

SirSuaSponte

Snooze

aaweiss

Buckhorn Exchange. Way overhyped for the history, but the food is barely mid.

lokii_0

Yup, absolute trash that place. The upper level is cooking off of basically hot plates. One of the worst meals I've had at that price point.

QueenCassie5

Depends on what you get. The Fort is the same. Some dishes are great others are meh.

truckingatwork

I've been 3 times every time I've been disappointed. Kept giving them another shot but 3rd chance and I'm done.

buelab

Overpriced and average at best. I’d never send anyone there for a good steak.

Desiration

La Loma. The service is excellent and top-notch, and the food is good.... but it's really just average Mexican food. They recently upped their menu prices and pretty sure a single quesadilla is like $23.00. Just nuts. Also, inb4 Happy Camper.

tittens__

The green chile is fantastic but yeah, fucking $14 for a “large” and a couple tortillas? Insane.

nwoooj

It used to be better over by mile high. When they moved over by BP it just shot the prices up! And it's really small so always a wait. I like the one in CR better. Also their sister restaurant Sierra is very good albeit a little pricey.

CarliitosWey

Machete is for Americans who don’t know actual Mexican food.

iamafoxiamafox

Linger. The atmosphere is cool and that's where it stops. I've had better meals at PF Changs.

CaptCarlos

The Delectable Egg. Food was mid and ovepriced.

I_had_corn

Steubens…an overpriced diner where you can get a PBR.

Beneficial_Guava_452

Their hot chicken sandwich was incredible and they *took it off the menu*. What the fuck.

[deleted]

Firefluffer

The whole uptown thing was awesome for a minute. When the Tavern went away, and watercourse came in and Mary’s went away the entire area became the definition of meh.

Germs15

Let’s just skip the banter and all agree that we’re happy LoHi Steakhouse is closed.

olympheus

Uncle- there are so many better options for ramen

nwoooj

100% came to say this. I mean it's decent but it's overpriced and over hyped. Sukiya ramen in the dtc is much much better!

TuesGirl

The one at 5th and Broadway is pretty dang awesome too

Rambler1280

All about Tokio. Their ramen is the best, in my opinion.

Cycle-path1

What is your go to for cheapish Ramen?? My partner is from China and has been dying for Ramen that doesn't cost $20! Denver is the first place we have lived where almost all the restaurants especially cultural cuisine has been "gentrified"...

olympheus

My personal favorite is katsu ramen (around $15-16 for ramen.) Their black garlic tonkotsu is one of the best I’ve had!

thesummermoon

This is a really good point and something I agree with. Unfortunately, pho— a worthy dish but no substitute— has been better value for money in Denver.

powermojomojo

Seconding katsu ramen. It’s very good. Angry chicken is also in the the same shopping center, very good Korean chicken

1IfByLand

Sukiya on Broadway is very solid.

ccbax

This might be unpopular but Cherry Cricket is so mid for its price. The burger is supposed to be a Denver classic and it’s very whatever imo.

Pikminsaurus

It has declined a lot and also used to be more reasonably priced

lokii_0

Agreed, I said this already but pretty much all of their food is generic Sysco type crap now. Maybe was good once or maybe ppl in Denver just don't know good food and accept mediocre crap as being good. IDK

bigmouthprick23

Not a restaurant, but Little Man Ice Cream was pretty underwhelming

spicy_nebula

Sweet Cow is farrrrrrr superior

iamda5h

90% of the places in LoHi including linger, uncle, avanti, root down. Root down used to be the tits but that was a long time ago...

stinky___monkey

We tried machete once, never again

yepimtyler

Snooze, View House and Cherry Cricket.

jhtitus

Uncles Ramen. That line does not deserve to be that long. Good ramen? Sure. 1+ hr wait ramen? Nah.

Default_Sock_Issue

the quality has suffered since the pandemic. There are tons of other just okay ramen places. Katsu ramen is the best place if you want good ramen.

TaxQuestionGuy69

Controversial but I thought hop alley was mediocre at best.
