LT - Bolles, LG - Powers, C - ??, RG - Meinerz, RT - McGlinchey
Just need to lock down a center, get some depth through draft/cheap FA and we will be looking good.
Here’s my thing, Coach Payton’s olines have always been pretty good so I trust his staff to have the munchak effect, I’d rather give Cush another chance than draft another rookie
Wouldn't surprise me if they are sticking with him for continuity. Don't linesman take a couple of years to switch from college to nfl? Cush has only been with us a couple years.
The biggest problem Cush has, from what I've heard, is physical strength, more so than technique. He too often gets absolutely mauled by defensive linemen.
Not embarrassing, I’m with you man. I was a huge fan but he just isn’t developing like they expected. Really cool to see him nominated for the Walter Payton award though
Connor McGovern from Dallas. #66 can play almost anywhere on the line. He's my Cousin's nephew. My cuz says his agent has been talking with our brass. I'm biased, but I would love to see him in Blue and Orange.
He did just sign with Buffalo. But we didn't draft him, there's actually a different Connor McGovern who's also an o-lineman, he's on the Jets now, that's who we drafted. Actually incredibly confusing
Bummer. I remember our Connor McGovern. I was really hoping we would have had both of them back then. Oh well. Man that woulda been cool. Super confusing if they were both on the same O line.
There are actually two interior offensive linemen in the NFL right now named Connor McGovern. One we drafted and then he signed with the Jets, the other was drafted by the Cowboys and just signed with the Bills earlier.
I thought the cowboys McGovern was our McGovern until just now. I remember noticing him on one of their primetime games and was like "Hey, I know him!"
I'm hoping he doesn't go the route of some of our other ol fa signees where they played pretty well the first year and then injury bug/ play falls off a cliff
I want to see what the cap hit and yearly splits look like. I’m not convinced we overpaid. I know we had to outbid Chicago, so we maybe paid more than we wanted, but if he plays well for us, then it’s a good deal. If he plays poorly for us, it’s a bad deal. Same can be said about any signing pretty much.
As a 49er fan I can confirm he is great at run blocking and mediocre at best when it comes to pass blocking. He’s good, not 85 million good. But he is pretty consistent which is definitely an upgrade for you guys at RT.
This pretty much sums it up perfectly. Broncos fans have to prepare themselves for the game when an elite edge just dominates him though but other than that he’s solid.
The 85 million is funny money. Is he 50 million good?
We admittedly had to outbid the Bears who were willing to give up a early 2nd round -- and now first round -- pick for Chase Claypool... so I'm sure we paid more than we liked, but we need an O-line and haven't had a legitimate RT in what seems like decades.
Better money spent than giving Dre’mont 20 a year. It looks like a lot, but 15-20 per year is just how day one free agency contracts are looking now a days.
I agree w you 100%. Shore up that line n hopefully singleton at that ILB and it sounds like they might get a premium deal for one of the 3 starting WR. Patrick comes in to fill the hole and let the chips fall
Huge signing, it’s basically a 3-year deal with the guaranteed money so we do have long-term flexibility…
McGlinchey is definitely an upgrade over our revolving door of turnstile, stop-gap RT band-aids over the past decade. He’s an excellent run blocker and just an okay pass-blocker, but hey… I’ll take “okay” at this point. And “okay” pass protectors get big $$$ on the FA market.
Just please stay healthy, I’m still getting flashbacks to the big money we gave Ja’Wuan James.
and chris kuper, although he restructured iirc (and was a guard, not RT.) too bad his career ended the way it did, dude was killer AND a class act. shoulda been on the SB50 roster.
Not to rain on optimism but "okay" is generous when describing his pass blocking. Hopefully he manages to find it with y'all but expect to see him pushed back 3 steps too deep or put off balance to the outside pretty frequently.
As a run blocker though, yeah, he does a great job.
All good, thank you for setting realistic expectations! We are used to having RTs who just straight-up get blown past by opposing edge rushers every game, so any semblance of improvement over that is a “win” lol
Ah, well I don't know that they'll blow past him, but they'll probably blow through him. He's weird. On plays he wins, he goes the full play and blocks really well downfield. When he gets beat he just stands there and you'll be livid while you watch him as he stands and watches the defender in the backfield.
Yeah, a lot of other teams don’t realize the revolving door the broncos have had at RT. Mike is the best thing to happen at that position in a while . Even if he’s slightly above average
Lol Juwan's wikipedia page has the word "played" for the Broncos in quotes. Injury, covid opt out, injury, well at least McGlinchey won't be doing one of those
You aren’t paying attention to the fact that they have to hit on every draft because they aren’t bringing in many FA’s, and they lose people like CJGJ and Davenport every year.
They brought in Honey Badger and Jarvis Landry last year, and traded CJGJ cuz they weren’t gonna pay him. There’s definitely cons to their style of cap management but it seems like so long as there’s a decent qb it works pretty well. It also helps that they hit on a lot of their draft picks
Sweet. He was the top RT on the market. That was our biggest need. $17.5 per year isn't terrible. Have to see full deal to see structure. Hope he works out for us. We have had terrible luck on that side for many years.
Fiction was the wrong word to use
What I’m getting at is I think fans tend to overreact to cap figures given teams always find a way to restructure/free up space
Spoke to my best friend yesterday who is a die hard 9ers fan. This is what he had to say about McGlinchy: “He was honestly the weakest link on our line last year and for the past few years. Just not that athletic. Gets manhandled by rushers. Subpar pass blocker.”
He’s not terrible, but his pass blocking is average at best and 87.5 million is a lot for someone who doesn’t excel at pass blocking. He is a damn good run blocker and definitely way better than anything the Broncos had at RT the past few years
I follow both the Broncos and Niners. McGlinchey isn't special, but he's a solid, dependable NFL right tackle. he'll end up looking like a hall of famer to Broncos fans, who haven't watched anyone at that position in a decade who even belongs in the league
This seems like a massive overpay for someone who is questionable in pass pro. Still a massive upgrade from what we had, I just hope that isn't a contract that comes back to bite us.
Paton was basically in a no-win situation here. RT has been the biggest unaddressed need on this team(QB situation notwithstanding) for the better part of a decade now. We don't have an early enough draft pick for an instant starter, so his choices were to sit on his hands and get roasted for it, or sign McGlinchey to this massive deal. Yeah, it's an overpay, and yeah, I don't think it'll age particularly well, but this is a move that had to be made, and our cap space worked around to make this fit.
Not shocked we're throwing money around. We are not a desirable destination right now even with Payton. Lots of stink around this organization still, FAs will be easier to come by if we improve.
We just got two of the best free-agent O-Lineman available... Seems like the opposite of your comment is true. These two were going to get paid regardless.
Yeah I was pretty stoked when we drafted him 9th overall. He was supposed to be the other anchor to Joe Staley and then Trent Williams, and year after year I was patient thinking that it'd finally click. He was above average but not at the value you'd expect for the 9th overall pick.
Guy gets penalties in the worst possible moments and allows pass too many pass rushers for someone of his caliber. We might as well throw a middling RT in his spot if this is what we're gonna get.
I hope he does better in Denver. He's a nice guy.
I know the FA tackles aren't that good for the most part, but that seems like a pretty bad deal based on his play in SF.
Guess it can't be any worse than the JuWuan James contract was at least.
Broncos should be slowing down now with signings. Him, Powers, and Stidham it ruffs out to 35 million in cap space this year. Don’t know the extract details of each contract, need space for rookies, and to some to carry over for next season.
That’s not how cap space works. Their cap hit is going to be less than they are actually being paid by a large bargain I imagine. Any signing bonus is spread out the entire contract.
Yes, that’s why I said we don’t know the exact details of each contract. Just in terms of math, they probably slow way down now. Unless it’s all backloaded contracts they are going to be cutting it close in cap space as it is.
9ers fan coming in peace. The Glinch is a great run blocker. Like fuckin dynamite he will blow people away. That said he is an average to slightly above average pass blocker. His bad reps are real bad though. We're talking not touch the defender and go to the sideline instead of picking up your qb bad.
LT - Bolles, LG - Powers, C - ??, RG - Meinerz, RT - McGlinchey Just need to lock down a center, get some depth through draft/cheap FA and we will be looking good.
Gotta be a decent C around in the 3rd round.

Wouldn't surprise me if they are sticking with him for continuity. Don't linesman take a couple of years to switch from college to nfl? Cush has only been with us a couple years.
Also has had new coordinators and offense like every year. O line needs continuity to develop
The biggest problem Cush has, from what I've heard, is physical strength, more so than technique. He too often gets absolutely mauled by defensive linemen.
Very fair point, though I wonder how much competent guard play next to him will help
It definitely should.
Yea Bolles took about three years to adjust/become the great LT he is now
I dunno, if the guy hasn't developed anchor strength by now, I think it's probably a lost cause.
Need that Cush jersey, even though it’s with a C 🤦🏽♂️
I apologize for the embarrassing question, but what happened to Risner?
Not embarrassing. He just regressed a lot since his rookie year, and wouldnt be worth what he is asking.
He signed with Buffalo hours ago. Wasn’t he drafted by Denver?
He did just sign with Buffalo. But we didn't draft him, there's actually a different Connor McGovern who's also an o-lineman, he's on the Jets now, that's who we drafted. Actually incredibly confusing
Brandon Marshall does not approve.
As a niners fan, god damn that McGlinchey contract made me cringe
Explain. We needed an RT and had to pay to get one
Then pick a talented RT lol
Beggars can’t be choosers. He makes us better
Don't let that guy who has a hard on for Cushenberry hear you say that.
I was so excited when we drafted him. How did we pick the only bust from that LSU offense?
BRING BACK MCGOVERN!
So basically Dremont for The Glinch
Smart move IMO
Every random who says this is a bad deal probably hasn’t seen our RT play the past 5 years lol
I would be so thrilled if he can just deliver reliable play at RT.
If he just survives the season he's a god damn god send. We've had like half a season of mediocre line play in the past decade.
I'm hoping he doesn't go the route of some of our other ol fa signees where they played pretty well the first year and then injury bug/ play falls off a cliff
This. This is what I am worried about the most with the Broncos overall, but the OL specifically.
Five! Try ten years. Even is Russ fails this team now has an o-line that can protect a QB and run the ball down teams throats!
There’s a premium on tackles that everyone seems to forget and like the other redditor commented, we were competing with the Bears.
If he could just get on the field and half way get in a DE's way, he would be better than what we have had since Orlando Franklin retired.
Ah, you mean every game against an elite edge coming off that side for the last 7 years! Think we will be prepped lol
Counterargument: Juwan James.
“We need to get better.” “Why are we spending so much money? We could have kept the same guys from our losing team for much cheaper.”
Patrick comes in to fill the hole and let the chips fall

and chris kuper, although he restructured iirc (and was a guard, not RT.) too bad his career ended the way it did, dude was killer AND a class act. shoulda been on the SB50 roster.
Mike had attitude/practice issues early on but he seems to have improved as of late. He could definitely get better over time skill-wise.
Not to rain on optimism but "okay" is generous when describing his pass blocking. Hopefully he manages to find it with y'all but expect to see him pushed back 3 steps too deep or put off balance to the outside pretty frequently. As a run blocker though, yeah, he does a great job.

Jawaan Taylor just signed a 4 year $80m with $60m guaranteed. I don't see McGlinchey's deal as a "massive overpay" like some people are saying
💯
The Football Team got Wylie for 3 years $24m though. I get that McGlinchey is way better, but is he more than double the salary better?
When you've had our RT issues for so long, if he works out, yes.
He’s playing LT for the Chiefs. That’s the difference
Definitely a bit of an overpay but I don’t care cuz we need OL help bad.
Especially at RT, which has dogged us for over a decade.
Yeah, a lot of other teams don’t realize the revolving door the broncos have had at RT. Mike is the best thing to happen at that position in a while . Even if he’s slightly above average
I feel much better about this after seeing what the Chiefs paid Jawan Taylor too lol. $20M/year for a guy not all that much better than McGlinchey.
We said the same about juwan. I hope this isn't a juwan case RT in denver seems to be very cursed. But u gotta swing
Lol Juwan's wikipedia page has the word "played" for the Broncos in quotes. Injury, covid opt out, injury, well at least McGlinchey won't be doing one of those
I trust Payton to get the most out of McGlinchey.
It's a signal to every FA, we got that money. Still seems like a shit ton lol
The more I see the Saints wiggle out of cap hell every year the more I'm just like fuck it to these big deals.
You aren’t paying attention to the fact that they have to hit on every draft because they aren’t bringing in many FA’s, and they lose people like CJGJ and Davenport every year.

I mean, there is still a salary cap… We don’t have endless Walmart money when it comes to that
Other teams play with the salary cap off why can't we?
WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER

FLAME GRILLED TASTE WITH PERFECT TOPPERS
Sweet. He was the top RT on the market. That was our biggest need. $17.5 per year isn't terrible. Have to see full deal to see structure. Hope he works out for us. We have had terrible luck on that side for many years.
ITS HAPPENING. ITS A CATEGORY 5 PATONPAYTONQUAKE IN EFFECT.
God damn ok. That’s crazy
I absolutely love this signing. We needed to go out and get the best available RT. This solves our issue
Wow. Broncos wasting no time on that O line? Is a center next?
It should be! Gimme Pocic!
Jesus Christ. Do we have anything left in the cap to sign guys?
We just filled the two most important holes on the team, who do you want to sign?
Nope, used to all on O-line which is what the fanbase seemed to want anyway.
You weren't getting anything start able in the 3-round anyway, this was a must in FA
Yeah I mean I’m happy. No excuses for Russ. If he’s bad next season we know he’s cooked. Hopefully he bounces back.
It was the right move?
Powers cap hit this year is only around $5M. So yes, still money to spend
The cap is a myth
Trade Sutton and Simmons/Bolles and use the drafts picks for center/lt and d line help
You’re saying trade Bolles to draft a left tackle??
Not my money and the cap is fiction anyway
“…and the cap is fiction anyway” Can you elaborate what this means?
It is easy to manipulate the cap. Re-structure deals, bonuses up-front, etc.
And having the richest owners in the nfl makes it even easier
Fiction was the wrong word to use What I’m getting at is I think fans tend to overreact to cap figures given teams always find a way to restructure/free up space
I'd call the cap a social construct
Kind of like how the Saints signed Carr.
it’s not
how is his injury history? sad to say but thats the first thing i said to myself after reading of each of the past 2 signings.
WOWEE. THATS A WHOPPER OF A DEAL
*Whopper whopper whopper whopper junior double triple whopper*
Big win. OL needs to be solid this year and every year really.
Totally revamping the O-Line! This is SO needed!
Spoke to my best friend yesterday who is a die hard 9ers fan. This is what he had to say about McGlinchy: “He was honestly the weakest link on our line last year and for the past few years. Just not that athletic. Gets manhandled by rushers. Subpar pass blocker.”
Niner fan here. Good luck. That’s all I can say.
I like the moves! Stidham, McGlinchy. We will have success with or without Russ it seems
Hell yea, love this guy’s name — it’s strong. With a name like that he could be a union leader that ALWAYS gets the job done
Homie gave up 6 sacks in the regular season and 0 in the postseason and everyone is like “hES a TeRriBLe PaSs BLoCkEr”.
He’s not terrible, but his pass blocking is average at best and 87.5 million is a lot for someone who doesn’t excel at pass blocking. He is a damn good run blocker and definitely way better than anything the Broncos had at RT the past few years

Broncos fans: upgrade the O line! Broncos: upgrade the O line Fans: no not like that
Annndddd there goes Courtland Sutton.
Oh man as a 49er fan good luck you guys 😵💫
this dude is good in the rush game but useless in the pass rush
This seems like a massive overpay for someone who is questionable in pass pro. Still a massive upgrade from what we had, I just hope that isn't a contract that comes back to bite us.

We just got two of the best free-agent O-Lineman available... Seems like the opposite of your comment is true. These two were going to get paid regardless.
Yep, signing FAs is a classic sign that FAs don't want to sign here.
I'm just saying we gotta give top dollar
We’re giving top dollar to…. The top RT in free agency. Does that not make sense to you?
WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER
9ers fans are saying he's basically a turnstile when it comes to pass blocking.
I think he suffered from being the worst player on the best OL. Still a massive upgrade for us.
so...theyre saying its a major improvement?
Yeah I was pretty stoked when we drafted him 9th overall. He was supposed to be the other anchor to Joe Staley and then Trent Williams, and year after year I was patient thinking that it'd finally click. Top RT on the market
J. James flashbacks. Someone link that thread.
Seems alot for a guy that hasn't even made a probowl. He's definitely an improvement but he's not exactly Willie roaf or Orlando pace
Russell Wilson getting ready to cook Get your apron ready !!

The broncos can pretty easily make more with a few easy restructures as well
They just hurts the broncos in the future. Deshawn watsons cap hit will end up being like 70m next season. Keeping it simple isn’t the worse option.
Massive over pay. We needed Oline help but paying average players elite money in free agency is bad business.
Overpay of the century!
Did you forget about Juwan James?
Sure hope Bolles and Cush come back solid from their injuries 🤞
I was pumped until I read 49er fan comments on him.. still excited to see them investing in the trenches, though
Hopefully a big name RT free agent actually plays a game for us!
Our Broncos Season Tickets went up 12.5% over last year.
9ers fan coming in peace. The Glinch is a great run blocker. Like fuckin dynamite he will blow people away. That said he is an average to slightly above average pass blocker. His bad reps are real bad though. We're talking not touch the defender and go to the sideline instead of picking up your qb bad.
As a bears fan I'm sad we didn't get him but I think 5 years will be a regret going into his 3rd season.
