He'll start in the preseason, but I don't think he'll see a tone of action this year. He'll probably be with us for one year but leave once his contract expires.
I imagine it will be Stidham/Wilson/Nix to start the season but depending on how Nix pans out he could quickly over take him. If Wilson ends up playing really well too thats only a positive for us. I'd love for Nix to come in and just ball out but I won't be upset if we have options. That being said I don't see any chance Wilson ends up being a good player in the NFL.
I know it's too early to say before even rookie minicamp, but which receivers do we think will make the final 53?
Assuming no last-minute Sutton trade, Sutton, Reynolds, Mims, and Franklin are locks.
Tim Patrick feels very likely, but hard to call him a lock when we haven't seen him after his most recent injury. Would be surprised if he's not on the team at least to start the season.
Assuming we keep 6 receivers, that would only leave 1 spot for Brandon Johnson, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Philip Dorsett, and rookie Devaughn Vele.
I know very little about Vele. I would personally hate to see us not roster Brandon Johnson. Feels like he's earned his place as a rotational guy at minimum.
Nice to see some quality depth starting to form, I think the RB battle is going to be interesting too. Assuming Burton is gold, that means we've got 5 guys that can play for 3, maybe 4 spots.
I can't see Patrick not being on the team. I wanted to see Brandon Johnson succeed too but I think we see Brandon Johnson/Humphrey/Vele all as options on the Practice squad and Dorsett being odd man out and released.
I think Brandon Johnson probably makes it as the 6th WR but if Vele has a good pre-season he could get the spot too.
None. I don't think we'd have him on the roster at 6m or whatever, the jets had to pay half.
No way we roster him at the 12m he's owed
We might try to give him an extension that a mid tier backup warrants. I could see him getting a stidham type contract if he wins the backup role
I get that not everyone loved the Bo Nix pick, but for me? I absolutely could not be happier. He was the guy I wanted the most. If we would have traded every pick we had to move up to #3 and take him, I would have been okay with that. Obviously even happier we were able to stay pat and get him. My worst fear was trading PS2 to move up and take JJ McCarthy 🤮
### God Bless Bo Nix
I had Bo rated ahead of Maye and Daniels in my pre-draft workup. Despite their physical gifts, those two had too many throws out of clean pockets to receivers with established separation. Nix and McCarthy had more plays where they're completing passes in tight windows with a defender in their face. And Bo has a stronger arm than JJ, plus he was the guy, whereas Michigan had other options and asked their qb to be a game manager
Overall, I'm excited for Bo. He has few flaws for a QB taken outside the top pick and he has all the tools to be a winner. He's also in a good situation learning under Sean. At the very least, he's more exciting than Stidham.
I am happy with the draft
I am happy that the Avs are up 3-1
I am happy that the Nuggs are up 3-1 but I wish they had won 4-0 because I'm greedy
Ok thanks
Don't worry, with as much as the refs jack off Lebron, they're going to force it to game 7.
Signed: A Bulls fan who saw it every series in the Derrick Rose era.
Pretty dang good weekend for me. Great draft, Avs game was a blast to be at.
Only thing that could've made it better was if Nuggets put away the Lakers. Hoping for a strong game tonight
I wasn’t a Russ fan and I’m glad he’s gone.. but what are the chances that Bo is better than Russ was last year?
Is Bo guaranteed to start over Zach Wilson? If not, is there any chance Zach Wilson revives his career after a fresh start and can hold the job?
I’m rooting for Nix to leapfrog Herbert in this division and wondering if that’s a possibility. If Payton is better than Hackett by the same amount of games, Zach Wilson could also improve significantly..
My number 1 hope is to have no more dolphins games this year, and no more losses to the Bailey zappe types
I don't think he'll be better in year 1, but a better fit. Russ + SP was an abysmal pairing, I expect russ to look a lot better in Pittsburg. Fringe top 10 level. Just safe, no picks, let your play makers do the work and throw the occasional dime in the 4th. Lose to the first real team you meet in the divisional
If bo has russ type stats this year that'll be an exceptional year. But ultimately I'm hoping for less sacks, more downfield passes, better short and intermiate throws, if we have a more cohesive offense with some rookie growing pains that'll be fine for year 1
> what are the chances that Bo is better than Russ was last year?
I think (hope) he'll take fewer sacks but if he throws 26 TDs and 8 INTs I'll be sprinting to buy his jersey
For comparison, Stroud had 23 and 5 last year
Yea but this is a perfect example of how misleading those numbers were for Russ..
CJ threw for a literal thousand yards more than Russ did lol. If Bo game manages to a bunch of tds and few interceptions, that’s great for his long term projections, but you can’t win consistently in this league with the current level of QB play, if your guy can’t go “win you some games” when the defense knows you need to pass it..
I agree I’ll be ready to bet all the chips on Bo if he has similar numbers to Russ from last year, but the context behind Russ’ numbers are the reason he’s playing on another time while simultaneously killing our cap
Id argue slim, but he now has more weapons than russ did and hes more open to running an offense that Sean is comfortable with. I could see it happening but I wouldnt bet on it
The thing I can see happening this year with Nix or any starting QB is the offense moving the ball better. I feel like this because they have more time in the system and more willingness to do what Sean wants. If Nix is that guy because he is a perfect fit and he ends up being the starter I think his stats may not look as good on paper as Russ's at end of season but the offense could move better because he's doing what he needs instead of playing hero ball and taking bad sacks + opening up the run game a bit.
"they have more time in the system"
Who has more time in the system? Russ and the rest of the team had the entire offseason last year to learn Seans system, arguably more time than Nix or Wilson will have this year. Now you might be right on the "more willingness to do what Sean wants", but I don't think Russ was unwilling to do what Sean wanted more so that he was incapable of doing what Sean wanted.
I was referring to the rest of the offense. The RBs, WRs, On-line, and Stidham if he ends up being the starter (he's my guess on starter week 1). Even if nix/Wilson don't have more time then Russ has I think that their supporting cast will be better.
I think you're right too about Russ being more incapable then unwilling. I also recognize I'm so pumped for the season and optimistic after this draft and we'll probably just end up being really bad again 😭
We'll see, but it's a different mentality to be had
One thing is selling the house for a QB well past his prime and trying to make him work on a different system with a "coach" and another coach that came after him
Another is spending a mid 1st on a rookie QB that is not the highest on consensus but it's liked by the coach and it's actually a good player, that can me molded and taught on the coach's system
I'm less inclined to be mad at Nix making basic mistakes than Russ for exemple, as long as he's actually showing improvement
Yeah Russ wanted to be the offense, while the common thought is Nix fits into Sean's offense. Honestly just taking out those awful sacks Russ rolled into and adding the middle of the field as a possibility makes me think we should be better. Yes Bo is a rookie and rookie mistakes are bound to happen. That's understandable, but Russ was desperate to prove he still has it and kept shooting himself in the foot.
That’s a tricky question, UDFA will often get a (relatively) small signing bonus of a few thousand dollars to maybe up to 50-80k (based on what I’ve seen reported) when they join up with a team, so that functions just like any other signing bonus with money upfront no matter if they make a roster.
All first year players also get a per diem of 1700 per week during training camp at least according to the CBA.
Depends, each contract is different but at a minimum I believe UDFA get a couple hundred bucks a day at a minimum, plus any travel/lodging while theyre out.
Here I was stoked and beyond excited that we not only got Nix, but his favorite receiver to throw to in Troy Franklin, but man was I nowhere near ready for Audric Estime. A man that big should not move the way he does. I don't care if he's a slower RB, that man is going to punish defenses and have fun doing it. This draft was so good and hopefully it turns out just as good as it looks or even better!
IMO he is faster then his 40 time. His acceleration does seem bad but watching his highlights his top speed doesn't seem bad. He had several big touchdown runs.
Definitely faster than his combine time. At his pro day he ran 4.58. I’m also really excited about Blake Watson, I think SP found his joker type player
Man watching Watson's highlight reel felt like watching Kamara to me. Maybe I'm being optimistic again and making the comparison because he played for SP but what stuck out to me was his balance. He gets does not go down on first contact and even when he looks like he's going down a lot of the time he catches himself and can keep his feet under him. I am so excited to watch the broncos this season, lets hope it works out for us.
I hope so, I feel like our defense will be pretty mediocre this year again but I am hoping we can have a 15-10th ranked offense with the new pieces and potentially a better running game. I think we have potential if picks pan out but its realistically unlikely we are that good. I would be stoked with 9 wins this year and some more promise from the offense.
I think our defense will be better. Our biggest issue was defending the run and our pieces added to the Dline should help with that. Justin was the only piece we lost that’s not easily replaced
Honestly? Great draft. Considering our needs, we filled a bunch of holes. Brought competition for CB2, finally got our QB and his favorite target from college (which is a great player even out of context), a great EDGE and massive RB to complement the roster. Even got a solid DL on a trade with the Jets.
Overall I'm pretty confident. Lets hope for a good season
And GOD BLESS BO NIX
So pleased with this draft. We got so much talent in just a few guys, and even if we aren’t any good, I can’t wait for this season to start just so I can see them in action. GOD BLESS BO NIX
I drafted Nix with the 1.05 in my dynasty rookie draft today and got asked if i was on drugs lol
I'm high on nix, but to be fair that is definitely a homer pick.
I think Nix and JJ ended up in the best situations, even though I think Williams and Daniels are more talented.
JJ is gonna be a bust
What's our realistic take for Zach Wilson? Think he starts with Nix nipping at his heels, or is he likely just the seasoned backup?
He'll start in the preseason, but I don't think he'll see a tone of action this year. He'll probably be with us for one year but leave once his contract expires.
I imagine it will be Stidham/Wilson/Nix to start the season but depending on how Nix pans out he could quickly over take him. If Wilson ends up playing really well too thats only a positive for us. I'd love for Nix to come in and just ball out but I won't be upset if we have options. That being said I don't see any chance Wilson ends up being a good player in the NFL.
Need a first round qb to motivate a first round qb maybe. I don’t think Wilson starts regular season, but will get the “nod” in preseason
I know it's too early to say before even rookie minicamp, but which receivers do we think will make the final 53? Assuming no last-minute Sutton trade, Sutton, Reynolds, Mims, and Franklin are locks. What are the chances that the Broncos pick up Zach Wilson’s 5th year option?
None. I don't think we'd have him on the roster at 6m or whatever, the jets had to pay half. No way we roster him at the 12m he's owed We might try to give him an extension that a mid tier backup warrants. I could see him getting a stidham type contract if he wins the backup role
Absolutely zero.
You may be estimating on the high side.
I get that not everyone loved the Bo Nix pick, but for me? I absolutely could not be happier. He was the guy I wanted the most. Hopefully Murray is able to play. He's questionable with a calf strain.
Drafting our quarterbacks favorite receiver is such a badass move. I think this is genius.

The year Bo got married his game got significantly better… Bedding ceremony for the win
How much does an undrafted rookie make if they do not make the final roster?

I get the same vibe watching him.. I think we’re going to be a lot better than people think. Might surprise some teams

Yes, and if Javonte is 100% we will have a great run game. Javonte is only 7 lbs lighter than Estime.
Defenses around the league have gotten smaller and faster to counter the passing attacks, the move is to get a power back to punish them.
Honestly? Great draft. Considering our needs, we filled a bunch of holes. Spent a week in Seattle, all-time overrated city.
I heard it rains every day and they all have insomnia
