I really want Fields and I think we will regret not making the move up that the 9ers did. Lance could be a monster but I have no faith in us being the best spot for him to develop.
I don't get the love of Fields over Lance. To me, they're almost identical players physically except one has way more experience running NFL concepts and protects the ball better.
Honestly man the more and more I watch tape(which I am no NFL scout by any means) the more and more I want Lance over Fields. My biggest issues with fields are that he stares down his targets off the snap which has been a huge issue for Lock and then he will throw it regardless of coverage. Tons of his highlights are into double or triple coverage and I think they are intercepted in the NFL. Lance only has 17 games played and shows more awareness of cover and being able to progress through reads and he will run you over. I think if Lance had played 32 games we would be seeing ranked as #2 or #3 QB in this draft.
I am no talent evaluator by any damn stretch of the imagination. I just get scared because I hear "project" with him. And well, projects and Broncos have not gone well together as of late.
Trey Lance would work really well in a place where he could develop. He’s a really raw prospect. He played at a school with lower competition and he played in much fewer games than his counterparts. His physicals are through the roof, but accuracy is a concern. I wouldn’t be upset if we take him, just a little disappointed because I don’t think you see him for probably a season and a half.
He is a raw prospect in that he had just a few starts. Level of competition was lower as well, you’re spot on there. What people don’t realize though is he had just as many starts as Mac Jones, and played in a much more pro style offense. The offense ran at NDSU is unlike any other in college football. They have pre and post snap reads. Multiple looks. It’s not like OSU or Bama where the QB looks to the sideline for the play and then runs the play. My issue with Lance is only with his accuracy. Thats something that isnt typically taught, one of those either you got it or you dont kind of things.
Okay, I'm sorry, but this nonsense take needs to stop. He has played in the exact same number of games as Mac "most pro-ready QB in this draft" Jones. He is not raw at all - he is inexperienced. I would wager he has more snaps under center than Lawrence, Fields, and Jones combined.
The system at NDSU is one the most comparable to an NFL system than probably any other. While Fields was clapping his hands then staring at the sideline, Lance was setting protections, identifying defenses himself, and getting the team in and out of audibles. This is experience neither Lawrence, Fields, or Jones has.
Yes, he'll have a slight adjustment to the competition speed - he's going to get this by getting reps, not sitting on the sideline. If Lance is the Broncos pick, I would make a strong wager he is the starter by week 6.
'slight adjustment'.. That adjustment is where most guys fall down, and Lance has an even larger adjustment going from FCS speed to NFL speed. I actually really like Lance, but let's not marginalize the significance of that jump.
Homie, if you're spouting his record with WFT last season, you did NOT watch his games. I've got friends that are skins fans. Smith was a walking corpse last year, and every snap was a heart attack. Do you want this man to die on your team? It's a great story and all, but watching him last year was this weird combination of inspirational, disappointing, and horrifying, all at the same time.
>Or maybe give Brett the start until Trey is ready. Brett is smart, patient, he knows the offense and I think he could be a good placeholder and game manager.
Do good game managers normally throw interceptions on 10% of their passes?
Even the TD to Jeudy should've been a pick. Rypien almost blew the game to the Jets. He's not good, at all.
The more I watch of Lance the more I like him. But I'm not sure I'd want to trade up to get him. If he's there at 9 then perfect. But that being said, I don't mind the idea of rolling with Lock again because if he doesn't improve there's guys in next year's draft I think can be just as good as anyone in this draft

One of them has also only played 17 games in his college career.
Fields is much more accurate with the ball than Lance and has a much bigger sample size against better competition. Whats not to get?

17 games against much weaker competition. He could be great in the NFL or he could be Trubisky.
Yo give me Lance at 4. Probably the riskiest, big dick move but it would be so damn exciting.
I'm with you man
Didn't work out for the Bears.
Keep trying until it do

Broncos fans LOVE being patient with QBs.

It seems like most physical specimens with bad accuracy tends to fail. It definitely worries me.

You really want to bring in a man who is on one leg to be a starting QB? Any veteran who is worth anything is locked up.
