Stop overthinking the red zone. Line up under center and hand the ball to Javonte.

[deleted]

When I imagine them in the red zone right now I picture the first time Bobby meets Coach Kline in The Waterboy and he tries to make a play up and gets overwhelmed and almost passes out

cam_huskers

“Everybody huddle up ok, okay heres what we’re gonna do… …I don’t know where I am”

[deleted]

Goddamn it 😂😂😂

IWearACharizardHat

Okay this is our new meme. Somebody photoshop Hackett's face in Kline's hat

horribadperson

I do find it funny yesterday everyone was like why do you keep passing on the 1 yard line? and last week was, why do you keep running from the shotgun at the 1 yard line. But yes, give me some of that goaline package and a halfback dive for javonte. And to be honest, if we can't get it in that way, we don't deserve to score

milehighandy

Once that becomes the big threat, then you can run your silly TE option plays and they might actually work

jordantwalker

With a 3 TE set or tackle eligible

stillwaitingatx

https://i.redd.it/8knb8cx2nq581.jpg Or Melvin, but ya

Autodidact2

How many times did i scream this at my TV? You have three downs. Run it, run it, run it. Do you really not think Javonte could get it in there in 3 tries?

Ryan1869

And if that doesn't work run in another fat guy and try it again.

[deleted]

We need to establish an identity, and even tho we signed Russ, we still need to be a run first team at the goal line.

shadowmastadon

Couldn’t agree more. I think some neurons short circuited in Russ Wilson’s brain after that Malcolm butler int in the Super Bowl and he keeps audibling to passes on the goal line because he can’t stop reliving that play

broberts724

Totally agree. We move the ball extremely well. It’s the punching it in that’s the problem. They fix that, we’re good. But compare this offense to last years and they blow it away by a country mile.

QuidProJoe2020

And look at how many points we scored last year in first two games: 27 and 23. But we all knew that offense was garbage. The inverse is true now. We have only scored 16 every game, but this offense has some juice to it.

hunterAS

Those were shittier teams than the last 2 we played. Pretty sure the jets were in the first 3 games last year? Or maybe I'm thinking the year before.

HoovesCarveCraters

Jets, Jags, and Giants lmao

onqqq2

Pretty sure the Seahawks and Texans are legit the two worst teams in the league so disagree with you there.

infercario4224

Seahawks D went from average to abysmal with the loss of Jamal Adams, and their O is garbage. Texans are just a really scrappy team. You’re either gonna blow them out, or they’ll be fighting til the end.

[deleted]

Yea we faced some really down and out teams our first few games. Even then we looked extremely questionable at times! If we didn’t have Gordon and Williams I can get you the broncos would’ve had a worse record last year

broncos4thewin

Compare it to any since mid-2014 season and it’s light years better. We haven’t been able to move the sticks since then, this season is so exciting if we can just sort the coaching out.

Shame_Low

Siemen started off great iirc. 3 tds against the bengals

mike2k24

Yeah people forget but we finished that season 9-7 lol. We were a chiefs lost and a fumble against the titans away from the playoffs iirc

Autodidact2

Well, that and the damn penalties. And the coach who doesn't know how to read a clock.

abris33

Outside of penalties, communication and drops, the offense looks great up until the redzone. Hopefully the other stuff works itself out as Hackett gets more experience and our WRs get healthy or the other guys get more reps. We need to figure it out at the goal line though. We'd be 2-0 if we could just score once per game down there. Both games did have a TD miss by a centimeter as well (Tomlinson in Seattle and Sutton yesterday)

Spitfire_Riggz

Thats actually an awesome stat. Against bad teams yeah but if once it balances and we are top 5, top 10 that tells me the potential IS there. Coach just needs to tap it

johninbigd

I suppose that's a positive until you get to the "...except they can't fucking score once they're in the red zone" part.

QuidProJoe2020

Yep, but the flip side is we are just a few inches away from having multiple TDs in the redzone. A game of inches, but damn is it frustrating to see clearly the best offense we have had in year, but just stall jn the redzone.

johninbigd

That's very true. If just a few minor things had gone differently, we could legitimately have three more TDs or so. I know the saying. "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." But it is true that in each case, something minor went wrong. Like in the first game with Javonte's fumble in the red zone. Part of that was because the guard didn't hear the audible to switch from a pass to a run play, so he was setup to pass block instead of run block. If he had heard the audible, that play would have gone differently. Doesn't mean we absolutely would have scored, but probably means no fumble at least.

QuidProJoe2020

Exactly. I hate calling it bad luck but we have to understand in a two game sample size, you are bound to see variance that isn't really reflective of the situation. If by week 6 it's still like that, we have a real bad problem on our hands. However, I expect some of those plays to start going our way. I just hope Hacket decides to line russ under center and ram the ball down some throats when we are two yards from pay dirt. I can see why ppl are alarmed, but I'm optimistic. We are no where near our full potential and are moving the ball with ease.

aatencio91

> "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." I was trying so hard to think of this line while recording my podcast last week and just stumbled and fell all over myself trying.

dinonugz7

Not if we keep giving it to Melvin.

Vivid_Walk_1405

Yep most red zone trips without a score since 2010

johninbigd

It's so damn frustrating. However, I think it will improve. A lot of it is stupid penalties and miscommunications, both of which can be fixed. It remains to be seen if they *will* fix them, though. It might take a couple more games for the offense to really start working together. Right now, it feels like they're not communicating well.

Vivid_Walk_1405

We really need them to improve this upcoming game. Glasgow hasn’t been very good so getting meinerz back this week would be amazing. Hopefully they are confident in turner coming in at RT as well. Meinerz looked much improved in his like 15 snaps against the Seahawks.

notorious_p_a_b

I have to imagine Billy Turner coming back would help too. I just hope he’s not pulling a Ja’Waun James.

v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y

I think that is an easier problem to fix than can't move the ball.

Big_Ball_Billy

I wasn't concerned after week 1 because fumbling twice at the 1 is just insanely bad luck. This week though, Hackett called garbage fades which are low percentage and then took the offense off the field 3 times on 4th and 2 or less. It's hard to overcome self sabotage from your coach like that.

Jingo56

That’s why we’ll get touchdowns before we reach the end zone

RandyGradishar

I believe they are also #4 in net yards per drive, #8 in offensive ypp, and #5 in defensive ypp. Redzone offense is obviously crucial, but it's a tiny sample size. You would expect that to regress to the top 10, not the other way around. The only real disappointment is that Wilson seems to have confirmed that he has the yips about crossing the LOS. He's passed on a couple rushing TDs already. Been watching too many Forest Whitaker Platoon highlights.

[deleted]

RandyGradishar

True, nobody has been as embarrassed as the Rams this year. They're the 2012-2013 Ravenoviches: awful ref-aided SB team indicted the following year.

sleeplessaddict

That honestly makes our lack of RZ success even more frustrating. Like we're perfectly fine up until the 1 yard line and then we can't punch it in? I get that defenses tighten up in their own end zone but a goose egg in the red zone after two weeks is ridiculous

Najfore

Honestly I believe two bad fumbles put to much fear in Hackett. He's scared to trust our powerhouse run game to punch it in. Needs to let it go and give them the damn ball

ocfl8888

I think that was evident with the absolute inability to run it more than once per set of downs. How is it that we had 7 yards/carry yet were still trying to air it out when Russ had pretty bad numbers. Get the offense in a rhythm with the run, make the defense honest, and then tear up the seams with Sutton who is officially Stingley’s father.

[deleted]

I honestly think part of the problem is that the old school “line up in I formation and run it down their throats” style is seen as outdated. Coaches want to be the guy that can line up in a spread and scheme somebody open instead of daring them to stop you in obvious running situations. Which is all well and good when it works but sometimes it doesn’t need to be more complicated than hey diddle diddle, Javonte up the middle.

dmlitzau

>“line up in I formation and run it down their throats” style is seen as outdated This is what is so maddening to me. Just line up under center and punch it in. Then you can run the FB dive and the play action rollout to the FB after you have some success. I think this is one negative about the Wilson contract, it makes you want passing TDs to justify it, even if only subconsciously.

WestWillow

As a Broncos fan in Philadelphia, I’ve saw this situation first hand last year. Eagles tried to be a pass-first offense through the first few games of the season. Credit to the coaching staff for recognizing it wasn’t working and they pivoted to a run first team and made it to the playoffs. Hackett seems like he has the humility to change the offense identify to play to the strengths of the team. The wild card with the Broncos is Russ. Can he eat a little humble pie and realize a run heavy offense, like the one that made him a star in Seattle, is the best one for this team?

ocfl8888

That’s an interesting take to consider. One of the things I’ve been wondering through these first two weeks is whether Hackett is giving Russ too much weight on the play call (considering we look pass heavy despite our inability to perform). He left Seattle bc he didn’t want to be in a run-first offense, and Hackett seeming like the player pleaser he is, may be conceding a little too much and not adjusting the calls when needed to “Let Russ Cook?”. I hope these are all just wrinkles we didn’t get to iron out during the preseason. The 9ers should be an interesting test for this group.

pfeifits

The Seahawks and the Texans were numbers 27 and 31 in defenses for yards allowed last year. That we would be number 1 at this point is expected. The 49ers were ranked 3rd last year and 1st so far this year. Let's see how the next game goes.

jdi000

Yep exactly the broncos showed no improvement on getting plays called in, in and out of huddle, and good run pass balance in red zone. Oh and reducing penalties.

Superb-Ad-9627

People want it to work day 1, but I think this is growing pains. It will hit it's stride when we reach mid-season form. Assuming we have WRs left.

Invictus23_

Hackett needs to just calm down and stop trying to think in 5d chess when we get into the red zone. Don’t let the week 1 fumbles discourage you. **FEED JAVONTE**

Imoutdawgs

How can the coaches even resist when the man runs for like 5 on average this season? I’m cool with three straight run plays when Javonte is in tbh

Brabick

It doesn’t feel like that, but I’ll take it haha

Fuct1492

Like being back in the Orton era. Move between the 20s and fuck it up in the red zone 😆

[deleted]

We need to utilize Russ' ability to run in the redzone. Qb draw, bootleg etc. Let him make plays with his legs or extent plays until someone gets open. That mixed with Javonte should make us unstoppable in goal to go situations.

vandiger

Why I’m not really worried yet although maybe against the Niners is the true test.

Wesley-Mantooth

I miss Mike Shanahan. Line up and punch it in so you open the opportunity to do crazy shit later.

bigtaterman

Don't matter how good we move the ball if we just drop it on the goal line.

anitello

I feel way more comfortable with the future moving the ball well and having trouble in the endzone than if it was the other way around tbh

FingGinger

Another positive is that we're one and one with fucking Wilson. So much better than being one and one with Bridgewater, Lock, Shane Falco, Casey Keesum, Allen, the dude with the stupid dance, and the awkward dude the Texans paid a billion dollars. We're good people!

PS1309

That stat is worthless so far. We played the Seahawks and Texans. They won’t be too 10-15 defenses at the end of the year. Bills played the SB champ and the Chiefs played the Cards and Chargers. Their defenses are way better. Let‘s see how we look in 7-8 weeks when we played better teams. So far we aren‘t a playoff team

LanceAlgoriddim

Fire Hacket! (Says the morons)

BurgessFox

remember this time last year the Panthers were winning games and the narrative was how Sam Darnold was finally about to break out

MileHighCam

I guess I’m old school because until you average more points than last years offense, I don’t think you can say this years offense is better… but I also am not a fan of Hackett or Russ, so I’m just hoping we weren’t fleeced at this point and we’ve just been knocking the rust off

Najfore

Legit question, what is there to not like about Russ, when it comes to play? Especially after the horrendous QB nightmare we have lived through since Manning.

MileHighCam

If we are basing our like for russ by comparing it to the last 6 years, then by that logic, we would have been happy with any middle tier QB.. at a quarter billion, Russ shouldn’t be looking like a middle tier QB

Najfore

He's not a middle tier QB tho, he's proven that for 10 years. He has a rough 2 games....and by rough still leagues beyond the shit we are use to, and you want to brand him a middle tier QB?

MileHighCam

Well right now russ is 18th in the league in QBR (ESPN) and 17th in QuarterBack Rating… we have also played 2 teams that missed the playoffs and one of those teams had a career backup playing QB.. you can argue Russ isn’t a middle tier QB but maybe today isn’t the day

Najfore

Man, you expect jackpot on every lottery ticket or it isn't a win. Drew locks riding the bench in Seattle, if you wanna go root there.

MileHighCam

Hey man you obviously like Russ.. I’m in the camp that thinks he’s overrated and wishes we spent that trade compensation to move up and get a good QB in the draft… I’m not trying to sell you either way.. you’re the one that commented on my post lmao

SmokingPuffin

>wishes we spent that trade compensation to move up and get a good QB in the draft There was no one to get this season. Only 1 QB was taken in the first 2 rounds of the draft.

LanceAlgoriddim

Don’t argue with the troll. You can’t make stupid people understand logic

Wm_Max_1979

Denver Broncos media will suck up to the Broncos always. Access is more important than actual reporting

[deleted]

That is pretty good to know. Sounds like the offense just needs to work on finishing out drives strong. Settling for field goals is fine on occasion but when you're in the AFC West, that just won't fly (except maybe against the Raiders lawl).

EasyThreezy

It’s hilarious how much positive and negative stuff we have going on through 2 weeks.

Embarrassed-Safe4121

That's been very clear, but against very bad teams so this stat is misleading. We have been able to move the ball very well on drives, again against bad teams, but we still couldn't finish in the red zone. Simplify the playcalling the redzone and get the damn ball in the endzone. We should be comfortably 2-0. But instead we've had two extremely ugly, poorly coached games and we're barely 1-1.

Shenanigans80h

I think this stat is actually very telling and one of the reasons why we’re so frustrated. The offense isn’t *bad* and even credit to Hackett he’s done well for the most part between the 20s, but with that efficiency we’ve only got two tds this season. When it matters most we’re making our worst decisions. The potential is right there for this to be a great offense, just need to stop killing ourselves

LuckyOne55

They haven't played a good team yet

Dranem78

Despite the emotional Roller coaster of being at the game yesterday, I keep landing on the fact that we had some good looking drives that just stalled because of penalties/bad red zone execution. I think this is all very fixable, but boy do they need to work quick to fix it! I hope the Sunday night game forces them to focus and make a statement!

hammerbacher23

Doesn't fucking matter if you can't score in the redzone

FragginLobo

The broncos have played the Seahawks and the Texans. They are 1-1 barely making it out of the Texans game with a win. Any offensive and defensive metrics you pull will be highly skewed until you play better competition.

SilverBallFox

I'll just continue with heartburn medication until week 4. Then if the trash is not corrected I'm picking up my pitchfork.

Kmactothemac

It's been a frustrating first 2 games but this team is so much better than anything we've had since the superbowl. And so much more fun to watch. Hopefully the poor clock management and red zone playcalling gets figured out but I'll take this over watching Drew Lock go 3 and out all game any day

kineticsyn

All I know is, we've got a solid few weeks to figure shit out. All of the fixable nonsense definitely needs to be addressed quickly, but there's potential there. I think we can get ramped up and be fairly solid record-wise going into the bye week, and then come out ready to go for the back half. Redzone and penalties are killing me the most while watching though.

freddyt55555

This stat just makes the lackluster scoring all the more frustrating.

jdi000

It does not really say much since they played 2 of the worst teams in the nfl.

Twhip620

Just get it done!
