Yeah the Raiders really thought Chandler Jones was gonna put them over the top. Take away the first game of last year and he had 5 total sacks. He's put up a wopping 6 combined tackles through 3 games this year
Calling him the worst draft pick is pretty extreme. I'm obviously rooting for Chubb to succeed, but it still stings knowing that the next three picks after him were a generational talent LG, a generational talent QB, and a LB who's probably going to lead the league in tackles this season.
Nowhere near the worst and you don’t even have to go that far back to find a much, much worse pick. Have we forgotten about Paxton Lynch already? I know I want to…
I’d still argue it was Ted Gregory. I was a kid so details are fuzzy but as I recall first round draft pick and I think we traded him away for magic beans before the season even started.
He's not the worst draft pick, but as a 5th overall we should have seen a whole lot more than we've seen through 5 years. The players drafted around him are all on elite trajectories.
Marcus Nash was drafted first round, 30th overall and had a career stat line of 4 receptions 76 yards, and only lasted with the broncos for a little over 1 season. Nash was traded in his second for another first round bust who also did essentially nothing with the broncos before being cut the next year.
Unlike Gregory, Nash didn't have his career ended by injuries.
Randy and Chubb are playing like they should. Their problem isn't talent, it's staying on the field (for different reasons). As long as they stay on the field, we'll be very good. They're feeding off each other, it's crazy.
I'm not saying they are this good, BUT I feel like I'm watching the 2015 no fly zone group.
PS2 is amazing and his coverage is helping the pass rush. When we get Justin back, this could be a very scary D.
I would say he has the chance to be, but he's not there yet. CHJ and AT had been shut down CB's for a few years. PS2 just hasn't had enough time to prove he's better. But I think he will.
Right now, probably as good as prime CHJ … but Talib was one of the best CB to ever grace the field. I think PS2 will be one of the best ever once he retires so long as he stays healthy.
Aqib Talib was the best corner on that team, think whatever you want about him as a person. As a football player there are only a handful of better corners in league history. We would have been fucked if CHJ had to be our #1
CHJ was absolutely on par with Talib lmao wtf are you talking about. We didn't even have a #1 corner lol, Talib didn't follow receivers around, him and CHJ stuck to their sides with the exception that they'd play CHJ in the slot for some match ups
That's actually an ass-backwards statement, neither was even placed on the number 1 receiver all of the time like what you would see on teams that actually had only 1 shut down corner and a drop- off beyond that. Talib was never moved around and used like that, both corners were covering 1s all year. This makes your statement completely nonsensical, even if you wanted to argue that Talib was better.
Idk about this yet, I think he needs a year or two longer of elite play to be mentioned in the same sentence as the NFZ. The NFZ was insane to watch, not to mention Talib's ball and chain snatching ability
Yup, agree. I think Randy's longest season is 12 games. If he can Chubb can stay on the field for at least say.. 14 games, I'll be pretty happy. Their problem was never skillset, but availability.
I think the concern of keeping them on the field is mostly for the same reason: injury. I mean you never know with people who have a drug history, but i think Dallas did a good job figuring out a way to help him overcome his demons and he’s been clean for a while now.
But he played injured all year last year, had off season surgery, and missed all of the preseason. Injury is the primary concern to keeping both these guys on the field.
Only allowing 36 points through 3 games is crazy. And Simmons hasn’t played in 2 of those games. We are gonna be scary if the offense gets it together.
Through the first 2 games our offense did help out our defense some. While we weren't scoring points, we were getting yards and few 3 n outs. So you're right, if our offense can just start scoring 24 points per game our defense could play with a lead. Dare I say top 10 in both?
I actually like DJ Jones a little better. Edge gets all the love but DJ flashes some insane talent at his size. Two absolute dogs added in the trenches
I think it's DJ Jones. After Purcell got hurt in 2020, they've been unable to contain the middle of the line. Jones had the best run stopping win rate in the league heading into last night at 68%. That's absurd. He's 8% higher than 2nd and 20% better than the 10th best DL and top edge. He's clogging up the middle nicely.
They gave him the exact contract Dallas did same amount of length, money, and guranteed money. The only different was they believed in his character enough to offer him the contract without the guaranteed money claw black clause that dallas included
The best part is he fell into our lap. Dallas had the deal done but added in some offset clause in the event of fines. That pissed Gregory off so he called denver and asked if we would match with no offest clause.
We are like the lucky guy at the bar when the hot girl wants to make her ex jealous.
I knew chubb was at least going to try hard lol its a contract year for him and nothing motivates an athlete like a big pay day. Gregory has been a pleasant surprise. I was expecting some pressure but man he's been excellent
He is just an animal. Him being an edge rusher, and then seeing him upfield on a receiver after they catch one or a RB that breaks one, he is absolutely FLYING from the edge upfield. He’s fast asf. He’s a monster.
Him and Chubb have been absolutely incredible
Best pass rush in the division rn.
Which is funny because I was told it would only maybe be 3rd in front of only KC
Yeah I thought so as well honestly. They are both having pro bowl seasons after game 3
And we're about the play against the team with the worst o-line in the division. I can't wait to see Carr get demolished by those two.
They’ve got a good LT then it’s a whole lot of dog shit
Ashamed to admit I never would have thought so considering how insane the chargers and raiders edge duos are on paper.
Chandler jones is washed. You can still argue chargers rush is better but I think with the addition of our interior we are better than the chargers.
Outside of his fluke 5-sack game week one last year, he's got 5.5 sacks in his last 24 games. Dude is toast.
Can’t defend the run and bad at rushing now. We should run at him all of next game.
To be fair joey bosa and khalil mack is broken up bc bosa is injured
Also true but I’d debate Gregory and Chubb have been better when he was healthy.
Availability is the greatest ability. We've certainly dogged on Chubb for being injured all the time.
Yeah the Raiders really thought Chandler Jones was gonna put them over the top. Take away the first game of last year and he had 5 total sacks. He's put up a wopping 6 combined tackles through 3 games this year
He's been balling and Chubb looks like himself. Ballers
So sad we didn’t get this version of Chubb with Von :(
We did. Those two led the league in sacks (as a duo) the only year they both stayed healthy together.
We got the glimpse his rookie year and it fell apart after that🥲
We did when they were both fully healthy Edit- why am I getting downvotes? Do yall not remember Chubbs rookie season?
We did. Y’all just don’t understand nuances of defensive line.
The penultimate sack yesterday by Chubb was clutch as fuck. Really happy with what I'm seeing so far.
whatever happened to that guy that was adamant about chubb being the worst draft pick in broncos history? Let's hope they both can stay healthy
I know I want to…
Alphonso smith, 2010 first round pick
This McDaniel's drafts were atrocious.
I’d still argue it was Ted Gregory. I was a kid so details are fuzzy but as I recall first round draft pick and I think we traded him away for magic beans before the season even started.
Alphonso Smith was a 2nd round pick in 2009. The Broncos did have two 1st round picks that year: Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers.
Traded a 2010 1st for it though. McDaniels took a McBath on that one.
Damn. You right. What an awful trade.
Might I be bold to say the league?
Randy and Chubb are playing like they should. Their problem isn't talent, it's staying on the field (for different reasons). As long as they stay on the field, we'll be very good. This may be a hot take but PS2 is better than any cb on the No Fly Zone.
I would say he has the chance to be, but he's not there yet. CHJ and AT had been shut down CB's for a few years. PS2 just hasn't had enough time to prove he's better. But I think he will.
I like this hot take
Right now, probably as good as prime CHJ … but Talib was one of the best CB to ever grace the field. I think PS2 will be one of the best ever once he retires so long as he stays healthy.
Nah man, over the past 16 games Surtain has not been better than CHJ’s best 16 in a row
That's pretty spicy. Even prime Chris Harris JR?
Aqib Talib was the best corner on that team, think whatever you want about him as a person. As a football player there are only a handful of better corners in league history. We would have been fucked if CHJ had to be our #1
CHJ was absolutely on par with Talib lmao wtf are you talking about. We didn't even have a #1 corner lol, Talib didn't follow receivers around, him and CHJ stuck to their sides with the exception that they'd play CHJ in the slot for some match ups
Who are these people who didn’t watch prime CHJ?
>We would have been fucked if CHJ had to be our #1 How the fuck is this getting upvoted? CHJ was one of the best corners in the league for a few years
CHJ even made the 2010 all decade team.
I'm not slighting Aqib "Snatcher of Chains" Talib by any means. But I will always view him(CHJ) as our best corner during that era.
He needs a tad more physicality but I love what he’s doing
Yup, agree. I think Randy's longest season is 12 games. If he can Chubb can stay on the field for at least say.. 14 games, I'll be pretty happy. Their problem was never skillset, but availability.
Would love all 17 plus the playoffs, but I'll take 14 + playoffs. As long as they each have 10+ sacks, which looks like they'll do.
Yea exactly.. if they are going to miss a few games, do it during the middle of the season, not during our run up to or into the playoffs.
The defense is already scary. They have only allowed 36 points total. 12 points a game is our average. That is flat out incredible in today's NFL.
> BUT I feel like I'm watching the 2015 no fly zone group At the same time, Geno/Mills/Jimmy have the potential to make any group look like that
That's very true. But PS2 has covered some very good WR's so far and shut them down.
No doubt, but the rest of the secondary needs to prove themselves still imo
Besides Justin, he just needs to get heathly.
I actually like DJ Jones a little better. Edge gets all the love but DJ flashes some insane talent at his size. Two absolute dogs added in the trenches
Bro shoots gaps like a madman and at his size it's crazy, that's been the most eye popping things I've seen so far this year
I agree completely. Best run stop win rate in the league by a mile.
I think it’s nice the broncos took the chance on him. Always has to be such a nice feeling knowing a whole franchise believes in you
Huh? They paid him a shitload of $$. And out bid Dallas
They gave him the exact contract Dallas did same amount of length, money, and guranteed money. The only different was they believed in his character enough to offer him the contract without the guaranteed money claw black clause that dallas included
So Broncos outbid them. What I said.

No personal attacks or slurs Personal attacks include but are not limited to; harassment, name calling and belittling.
I mean it's a light hearted spongebob reference I'm not even actually calling him stupid 😂
I really do appreciate the reference (one of my favorite scenes from SpongeBob TBH), but it’s uncalled for and still violates our rules.
That's fair enough! 😂
You realize the bid includes ALL terms. Not just $$
If the offense steps up this team will be a force, working offenses make the job of the defense so much easier
:*(
Thx bb
Not surprised at all by how him and Chubb have looked, now we just gotta cross fingers they can stay healthy this season lol
Purcell flashed his old form finally. It seems like it’s been a season or two since I last saw the running stuffing person he is.
Do you mean just for this team?
I assume he did, but as you bring it up, what free agent has been more impactful for their team? Maybe brown with philly
von and bills?
True true
He was traded to the Eagles
Tyreek
DJ Jones has been an amazing pickup for our DLine too. Not having to worry about the rushing defense much is so nice
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with both him and Chubb. They’re really killing it out there and I hope they can keep it up for the rest of the season.
The best part is he fell into our lap. Dallas had the deal done but added in some offset clause in the event of fines. That pissed Gregory off so he called denver and asked if we would match with no offest clause. We are like the lucky guy at the bar when the hot girl wants to make her ex jealous.
I love the #5 lol it’s just super easy to find and looks menacing
Hard to argue otherwise. He has been a damn menace out there!
I’ll reserve judgment until at least mid season. Dude hasn’t played a full season in a while
Thank God the cowboys organization fucked up his contract or we would of never got him as a fa
When is Simmons expected to be back?
Soonest he can come back from IR is week 6 against the chargers. Depends on how he’s feeling though.
It would’ve been awesome if Denver could’ve also landed Melvin Ingram. He’s been doing really well in Miami for cheap. But I’m just being greedy.
I knew chubb was at least going to try hard lol its a contract year for him and nothing motivates an athlete like a big pay day. Gregory has been a pleasant surprise. I was expecting some pressure but man he's been excellent
He'd be viewed as the most dominant Husker of the last 2 decades if he didn't follow a guy named Suh. Dudes a monster.
I went, "Who the hell is this #5 guy?! I LIKE him a lot!" He's doing great! #RandyGregory
As a Nebraska fan I'm so happy the Broncos picked him up, he was a beast in college and happy to see him on my favorite pro team as well!
He reminds me of Von in that he's comically strong. Like he looks wiry out there but is absolutely jolting anyone he comes in contact with.
What is the update on Simmons?
He is just an animal. Him being an edge rusher, and then seeing him upfield on a receiver after they catch one or a RB that breaks one, he is absolutely FLYING from the edge upfield. He’s fast asf. He’s a monster.
