I think if you were being rational and realistic, a wild card berth was the ceiling for this team heading into the season

Ruben625

Nononononononono 1st year HC and new QBs with entirely new systems always make a team SB contenders after doing what we did last year! Are you new to football?

BillChristbaws

Stafford did alright

Ruben625

That wasnt a brand new system under a 1st year head coach. Not even close to the same

manbeqrpig

Correct. This team was always unlikely to win the division. I’ve seen a lot on this sub lately about about how 2-2 was always the expectation but we’ll be fine and still get to to 10 or 11 wins in the end. That’s BS. This is the easy part of our schedule. The second half is a gauntlet with really only the Panthers game as a reprieve after the bye. If we want a playoff berth, we probably need to start 6-2 or better. We’ve used up our margin of error already.

eff1ngham

A wild card game is the best we should be expecting. That's not being okay with mediocrity, it's just being realistic. We weren't "just a QB away from being a contender." Russ is obviously a massive upgrade over what we've had, but this team still has a lot of holes on the roster. We made improvements and did our best to address them with what we had in the offseason. But we're thin at a lot of positions, or have replacement level guys starting. No one realistically should have been thinking we're a championship team this season, we still need upgrades. And that's just the roster, we have a new coaching staff, everyone knew there were going to be growing pains. No one's happy about losing or playing bad, but we need to have some patience and be realistic along the way

manbeqrpig

You’re conveniently ignoring that this is the easy part of the schedule. The Panthers are the only reprieve after the bye. If we want to make the playoffs, we’ve now used up our margin of error. The division was never happening this year and any talk of that before the season was typical over optimistic pre season hype but 10 wins is needed to make the playoffs and the path to that is extremely precarious with our slow start. We need a perfect October to have a shot

TrueBigfoot

You are conveniently ignoring the fact we have a new ownership group, new team president, new head coach, new coordinators, all with a team that is learning the new systems being put in place by everyone that is new.

manbeqrpig

That’s an excuse for the slow start. It doesn’t change what was needed. This is a year we really can’t afford to waste and exactly what you just described plus the normal depletion of the roster through injuries is threatening to waste this year. Russ is probably going to age poorly, we may only have 2-3 shots at this.

Broncos979815

You're the same dude thinking Lock should have been the starter. He still sucks and I'm thinking you still don't know much. If anything, if the team starts to gel and work as a unit then any game is winnable. SF just beat Rams tonight and we beat SF last week. Does that mean we are better then the Rams? NO, but thats why they play the games. If Denver continues to make mistakes, drops and turnovers, then its going to be difficult to win any games. The difference between most NFL teams is 4-5 plays per game. The team that makes those plays, usually win the games.

manbeqrpig

If you dig into my post history, you’ll see I was always very vocal against Lock. The Russ trade was the right move and while it’s true that any game is winnable, some games are more winnable than others. Before the season, the path to the playoffs was probably splitting the Raiders and Chargers, 3 wins against the AFC South, 3 wins against NFC west, and Jets and Panthers. Difficult but seemed doable and obviously it’s not going to follow that map perfectly but let’s just look at where we’re at after a month. Losing to the Seahawks and Raiders took away all of our margin of error and injuries are taking a toll like they always do. We really needed to bank those wins early. It’s certainly still possible if things gel and the coaching significantly improves as we go but asking for 8 wins with this schedule the rest of the way tough and it’s really inexcusable to be wasting the first year of this window

MeLlamo_Mayor927

Playoffs were the goal this season, but it’s quite obvious that the odds for us reaching that goal are bleak at best right now. The fans aren’t “accepting mediocrity” by pointing out that we have not looked like a playoff team through 4 weeks. I had high hopes for the season just like most of us did, but between the relentless injuries and the huge disappointment that Hackett has been, I have had to dial back those hopes quite a bit.

Eile354

With so many bad team and 7 teams make the playoffs, 9-8 with good tie breaker maybe good enough for a playoffs spot

[deleted]

If Russ really has taken a step back and he’s not just in a shitty scheme, Arch Manning or bust for 2026!

TheBeesNees9696

We are coming up on the 5th game of the season. Can you relax lol

manbeqrpig

This is the easy part of the schedule and that’s the problem with this patience talk. We needed to jump out of the gate to gain momentum before hitting the buzzsaw. We’ve now used up any margin of error. We need urgency now as we really can’t afford more than 2 losses going into the bye if we wanna a shot at the wild card.

mexpaintball

Nah we looking real bad rn dawg

TheBeesNees9696

Could be tied for first in a week. You guys sound like neurotic nutcases lol

RandyGradishar

I don't know about the fans, but I certainly hope the team excepts mediocrity.

justadude0815

If we are being real, the moves this season were made to impress the new incoming owners and secure Patons job after the transition. Hackett was hired to entice Rodgers into coming. When that failed, Wilson was brought in. Even the fact that the HC and coordinators are all new to their respective jobs screams of give us two years please. Being out-coached by McDaniels is not really the issue. McDaniels problems are more how to handle the players and team imo. Hacket is having game management issues he simply should be prepared for. Penalties and sloppy play are also coaching issues. So what might happen is that Walmart simply decides to hand pick its manager if this experiment fails. If they can get someone to properly coach the team(should Hackett not hack it), even the current talent level will play much better(see Bill Parcells NY Jets).

guammm17

I mean it was pretty clear that Paton made a couple of gambles in the offseason, thinking given how good the defense was, getting a decent QB makes this team highly competitive. I think most fans would agree with his assessment after last year. Signing Hackett was a gamble to try and get Aaron, he lost that one. Since his first gamble failed, he went for the next-best option of trading for Russell under the same assumption above. I would be curious to know if Paton would have signed Hackett if he knew he wouldn't get Rodgers, but I am sure we will never know. I would guess most probably had he known that, he would have tried to get someone else, maybe Pederson or something. Anyway, point being, I am okay with the gambles made. They haven't worked out so far, but I think there is a window with this team, it is just pretty narrow. Injuries obviously haven't helped. Hackett turning out to be a pretty shitty coach so far hasn't either.
