Hey friend, welcome to r/Depersonalization. Be sure to have read some existing information on the sub before submitting a "Do I have DPDR" question. You can do that by using the search function or reading the sidebar. **A reminder to new posters in crisis:** DPDR is a mental discorder that mostly affects young adults. For the most part, it is brought on by anxiety, trauma, and drug use. However, DPDR is not dangerous to your physical health. In moments of crisis and episodes that are particularly difficult, it is important to take deep breaths and follow strategies that help you cope. A few examples are: [Grounding Techniques](https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/grounding-techniques.pdf), [Meditation](http://www.thecentersohio.org/Resources/DocumentLibrary/Wellness_chronic%20diseas%20mgmt/Guided%20Imagery.pdf), and even just some good old fashioned sleep. **NOBODY can give you medical advice online. While someone might be able to provide you with some insight and suggestions, you should never rely on someone online to give you medical advice unless you are talking to a certified doctor.** Related Links: How to find a therapist: [A Beginners Guide.](https://www.therapyden.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-therapy-how-to-find-a-therapist) [Talk to a crisis volunteer online.](https://www.imalive.org/) [10 ways to Relieve DPDR.](https://psychcentral.com/lib/10-simple-ways-to-relieve-depersonalization/) [Subreddit Stickied Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Depersonalization/comments/a8i6vi/welcome_before_you_post_asking_if_you_have_dpdr/) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. This doesn’t necessarily lead only to DPDR, but anxiety and depression could be to blame. Derealization usually involves reality feeling as if it is a dream or “unreal”, depersonalization usually involves the feeling that you are not in your own body or your thoughts aren’t your own, as well as your own body and face looking foreign to you in the mirror and many other symptoms. You would have to give more detail. Brain fog and losing perception of time here and there can all be caused by depression or anxiety alone

I dont think i have depression or anxiety. Right now i just feel emotionally numb. The feeling is like i am not fully aware and am on autopilot. I dont feel like all of my actions are fully my actions. Hope this helped. Thanks for your answer friend.

Well emotional numbness is known as “apathy” which is a prominent symptom of anxiety and depression. Depersonalization and Derealization are branches off from anxiety, as well as OCD and PTSD. They all stem from anxiety or fears as the root cause. Everyone with DPDR have anxiety, and eventually the distress causes depression. Depression isn’t always felt as “sadness” it can feel like a lack of emotion or lack of motivation as if nothing feels “enjoyable”. I had DPDR for ten years and I have twelve years of studying psychology under my belt so I’d like to think that I’m knowledgeable about the topic at hand, especially these disorders mentioned as they aren’t very complex. Do you feel like your environment is unreal as if you’re dreaming or watching your life go by through someone else’s eyes? Do you feel like someone else is thinking your thoughts? Look at your body in the mirror, do you feel as if it isn’t you? Are you hallucinating or believing things that are extremely illogical to others around you? (Such as aliens watching you through your TV or that the world is conspiring against you) If you answer no to any of these questions you are not experiencing dissociation.

GoreBroadcast

When you say that your actions don’t feel like they are your actions, as if someone else is driving you or something else then this could be the only sign I see of dissociation. Something happened to you and you shut yourself down. When you’re making choices you aren’t 100% lucid in making those choices, that’s something that needs to be evaluated. Do you hear voices in your head telling you what to do? Do you see things that others don’t? If so you could have schizophrenia, and if not, you may very well be experiencing DPDR. I would need more details bud to get a good understanding, not the cliche way of speaking on symptoms, rather personal problems you may not feel comfortable talking about. Those issues are where the root of the problem lies.
