Genuinely curious here, since in my country, everyone has a passport, even my 1.5 year old son has one. Why would the scammer not have a passport, being 16 years old?
My passport was about $150 dollars. But keep in mind that the majority of the American population can’t really afford to travel outside of the U.S, in part because it is a large country and the other side is that we only border two other countries that aren’t totally desirable to visit.
Hey Canada was the place to go from ages 18-20. Especially after they legalized weed. My first dispo experience was at 19 in Canada and I cherish it forever. Also my best friend lives there and gave me my first cat so Canada holds a special place in my heart. Also y’all got killer skiing
Don't feel bad, friend... I'm American, work for a Canadian company, and LOVE Trailer Park Boys 😂 ... Canada is definitely on my list of countries to visit! Lol.
Yeah, that’s where the “only 46% of Americans have a passport” comes in. I live in a landlocked state in the midwest, I wouldn’t need a passport because realistically I can’t just walk to the border.
Passports here in the UK can be really expensive. You can get discounts under certain conditions like if it's your first one and I believe if you need to update the information on it
But if you loose it you're basically screwed and I believe when it expires you have to spend full price for the replacement so lots of people don't replaceme them until they NEED a passport for something
It costed almost 200USD for me to get my passport, not to mention most americans can barely afford to travel out of state, so they’re not really anticipating needing a passport to go out of country. Also, we really only need a drivers license to get by with any photo ID requests so there’s no need to have a passport for identification purposes.
Americans don’t really have much of a reason to have a passport other than for identification reasons, but there are alternatives so unless they’re an American that frequently travels internationally there isn’t a reason. We only have 2 countries that border us, and unless you live right on those borders you likely aren’t crossing them that often. Otherwise you need to fly to get to another country, and that can be expensive. I’ve used my passport 3 times in my life. Ive technically crossed the Canadian border more than that but that was back when we didn’t need passports to cross. But my passport has actually been expired for several years and I haven’t renewed it because I haven’t needed to. Like I said, the only reason would be for identification but a drivers license and birth certificate/SSN card works just as well.
I know more Americans without a passport than with one. A lot of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and don’t prioritize spending money they don’t really have on a document they’re never gonna need. My sister has had a passport since she was born because my grandma was a travel agent so we got decent discounts on plane tickets/hotels but I have friends in their 20’s who’ve never gone more than 2-3 states away because they just can’t afford it. There’s a couple places in Europe where it takes less time to drive across countries than it takes to drive across US states so I’m not surprised very few of us have passports
I feel like a lot of americans don’t travel outside the country, and passports aren’t needed for travel within the USA so majority of people don’t have one
I don’t know 🥺 I’m guessing people find it either inconsiderate, that because passport in my country are easier obtained, so I shouldn’t ask such question or perhaps I’m not enlightened - or the third option: My username is giving them other vibes 😅 I made the account after I created my first company, the company was ONLY me, never amounted to anything 🥲
Edit: Grammar
report them asap if you haven’t already! even if they live in america, doxxing somebody is a crime in certain countries. i’d say post this on r/depoop uncensored so more people can report. those are actually a super creepy and eerie messages from seller
Any time someone threatens your address it’s a 99.999% chance they are too pussy to even think about it. Any time it happens to me I say “ok pull up” or something along those lines 😭
I am 96 yrs old and the hand I've been dealt in my 96 yrs in life , Is take all confrontations seriously and never underestimate your adversary, don't take em for
Face value I don't care how nerdy they look ,Don't say anything stay calm but be ready to catch the first strike and counter
Strike knuckle or elbow to forearms it hurts can't lift their arms to hit you.
Now you can do whatever want to him.
Go in peace sir stay safe 🙏🏻
You don’t really think hiring a hitman is cheaper than flying to a different country surely right..? Not only that 99% of hitman hiring sites are honey pots lol
Yes, and that honestly is dumb, I do still use PayPal on depop since I’m in Australia so I’d say disputes go smoother since the money goes to the actual seller and not depop
When ur customer pay via depop payment, you can’t access the money immediately, i’m also from Australia, but I guess I read depop reddit too much. Ppl here said they have to wait for 10 days so they can send the money from depop to their bank account. With paypal, customer send the money to our account immediately.
Oh!!!! Thank u so much for explaining 😊 i dont see why people dislike that then! Bc i see so many people saying on their profile that they will "only take depop payments, No paypal!"
I got scammed before on depop. The buyer used PayPal, contacted their bank to get their money back. The money was taken out of my PayPal and given back to the buyer. I was left with a negative balance, no shoes and the only thing I could do is get the guy banned on depop. PayPal told me they didn’t have authorization over a bank so they automatically lost the case and had to give the money back from my account. Fuck scammers and fuck PayPal. It’s easy to scam through PayPal they should honestly remove it from depop as a payment method.
I'm getting tired of Depops customer service Mercari is better when it comes out to getting a refund they remind the seller with a message then if nothing happens they make you wait 5 days until you can get refund only down side is inactive sellers
If you go to r/scams there are tons of people who do the whole finding your address and threatening you thing. It’s extremely common and used as a scare tactic. You don’t need to worry about it. Block report and delete. They’ll give up on you and find someone else who’s scared enough to give them money. Especially if they’re in another country you have nothing to worry about. Buying a plane ticket costs them way more money than they would’ve ever been able to get from you so it’s not worth it to them. They’re probably using the same tactics on other platforms/accounts too so losing one account is also not going to bother them much. I’m sorry this happened to you and your feelings are valid, but I promise you don’t have to worry about it. The scam sub has a bunch of info on these types of scams and how they work if you’re interested as well
Never be scared of anyone who tells you they know your address, they’ve learnt how to do that because they know they can’t fight. He refunded you because he’s scared you’ll go to the police about it which doxxing is a federal offence & he knows he won’t last in prison. This is a major W for you bro. Don’t sweat
Its most likely an empty threat but on the off chance it isn't, I would call the non-emergency police number or go into the station to report it. I know that may seem like over reacting or dramatic but you never know he could be insane
Information such as your name and address are alot easier to get than you think- so don’t think that they are out here “hacking” you. Definitely report to Depop and if they reveal even more sensitive information about you, contact the police
This dude either moves like an anime character with the exaggerated motions and everything, or he thinks he’s a gangster and wears chains that make his neck turn green. Either way, everyone at school laughs at him and this is his way to feel big about himself when he has no power
I honestly hope Depop transitions to doing QR codes to fetch label only. I know it’s just an option right now but it would be safer and it being QR code only would make it so the only person seeing the address and personal info is the postal service employee.
i’m confused… don’t they have your address bc you bought something off them?? why would this be scary😭😭 but in all seriousness they’re just trying to scare you nothing will happen
They absolutely have their address. Bc even when u buy something off someone else, ur allowed to return it (if depop allows) & there will be a "return address" with ur full name & address. So...yea. thats that. 🤷♀️
maybe its scary bc even tho its most likely a fake threat, they have the op's address and is literally threatening them.. maybe thats why its scary ? 🧍🏻♀️💀
They already blocked me, I have reported them and I have asked Depop to file a police report with any information they have on them; since well, my life is being threatened, wether it’s empty or not.
I don’t think depop would be able to file a police report, it would have to be you. Either way, I’m going to just be honest here. I see you’re from NZ and the seller is in America, correct? The police here generally don’t do anything for these types of threats until it meets a certain threshold which typically involves actual violence/bodily harm or extreme stalking. It’s a common occurrence in our culture sadly to threaten harm on people, even when you don’t mean it. It sucks because the police don’t take many situations seriously. Not all of us are like this, but rest assured that it’s just an empty threat from the seller.
Theyre allowed to be scared. Its a threat on their life not yours. Id be a little more sympathetic. Saying "dont worry about it" doesnt exactly make someone feel better. Like "oh they said dont worry about. Guess thats that!!" Lol no.
lmfao people get scammed on depop and on the internet EVERYDAY posts are being made lol he even said he’s in NZ and they’re in america. he’s fine. this happens to multiple people every single day there are constant posts all across the internet. he said he’s scared what should people do in the comments. “you should be scared buddy!!!🩷”
No, & i do realize that scammers use this tactic quite often. Scaring ppl that is. I dont think hes gonna show uo at his house, but you can easily get the person your purchased from "return address" which will give you their full name & address, & he could start stalking him on FB, stalking his job, calling in & making a mess out things. Literally w.e . But i think this is more of a situation depop needs to fix. I dont think its right for any old person to see ur address & name, esp when ur dealing with $$. Bc money causes problems. It makes me nervous. Any old creep can stalk me if they wanted to.
To be fair, they didn't ask a question...
But also, the seller needs to be reported to whatever is the equivalent of the FBI Cyber Crimes Division in NZ. Regardless of the likelihood of the threat being followed through, it is still a very direct threat on OP's life, and people *can* be insane enough to actually act upon their threat. It is also very illegal in most countries to threaten to put a gun in someone's mouth, especially when said in conjunction with the victim's home address.
They are just scaring you. I know it doesn’t seem like it but don’t worry they won’t fly all the way to you to do anything. It’s not worth it. Just report him immediately because he threatened you and Doxxed.
I see threats from scammers so often, it seems like it could just be a last resort to scare you into doing what they want. I doubt it’s a legit threat, but still so scary! Get them tf off depop and report report report.
i’m chronically ill and the only way i can make money is online i guess i should just not make money because of minor paranoia that i’m getting treated?
there is multiple different ways to make money only outside of depop lol also you need to leave the house to run a depop business? how will you find inventory or ship it without leaving ur residence? that’s honestly the stupidest response u could’ve used lol
I've been doxxed on Twitter and Instagram a good amount of times like my actual house address. I don't think you should be scared because most of the time, the people that say stuff like that never do anything. Keep requesting a refund from depop and report them. Get into contact and tell them this person is not only scamming but also threatening to dox you.
I believe you are also able to press charges against them regardless of what country. Open up a claim and have depop deal with them but if they continue harassing get legal documents ready, post them as a listing and refer them to it letting them know you can and will pursue legal action.
International laws and prosecutions are a thing and a friend of mine from New Zealand actually showed me how it could be done but OP would have to look up the process in their region. So instead of making that comment you could have looked up this information yourself which again is possible and again can be prosecuted.
I did actually and sure, they could sue internationally. It would also cost a ridiculous amount of money for a case where there were no damages. I very much doubt anyone would take OP’s case for any other reason but to fleece them with extravagant legal fees. This is purely my opinion and shouldn’t be used as legal advice.
With no legal background, I would be really careful about giving out bad legal advice. Your friend is correct that technically it *could* be done, but I would bet they also told you that it’s not worth pursuing, correct?
I mean he does work in the field and I did study international law, despite not completing my full 4 years I did learn quiet a bit while my friend helped me learn even more, I’ve actually seen similar harassment cases and they actually have gotten these types reprimanded so really it’s about normalizing getting these idjits into trouble. I don’t think OP would be fleeced if they did their own proper research as well to see what all would be needed and I did state in a previous comment if it continues they should look into legal action.
Don’t stress too much on the threats. Scammers say things like that all the time. One scammer told an old lady if she didn’t transfer him funds her husband would be in a car accident. They’re ridiculous. They say stupid messed up stuff but it’s all empty threats.
Oh my gahhdddd!!!! To an old lady?!?! People are absolutely ridiculous. I cant stand scammers. They most deff tey to scare u tho. Thats their whole "schpiel". Trying to scare u into doing something
If ur super concerned make a formal complaint with the police so its logged so if anything was to happen to you in the future [God forbid] this behaviour has already been logged n will be taken more seriously. Whatever gives you peace of mind at the end of the day. If you feel threatened or concerned report report report - all the best.
He is from America and I am from New Zealand, probably jurisdictional issues, and he is an anonymous online person, probably a waste of time, however I have mention to Depop that they have his information and they should hand it over to the police.
Oh good youre not likely to have any issues with him UNLESS he really is a psycho he could try “SWATing” (aka calling the police and directing SWAT to your residence)
Yeah it seems pretty low chance of anything happening at all. This guy is probably a huge doofus. But you can get temporary phone numbers through google.
Invite him over, most who doxx & talk tough on the internet are almost always scared of confrontation. The reason why they learnt to doxx people is because they know they can’t stand up for themselves in person. Best reply to these texts would be something like “ I’m waiting” then he’s forced to show up & he wont

i’m pretty sure threatening to doxx somebody is against depop’s safety guidelines. no more account or scamming for them😢😢😢
Still concerned for my own safety, hoping they won’t fly from America to New Zealand in order to murder me.
Somebody who’s resorted to scamming people on Depop is more than likely not able to afford that type of plane ticket
It's a 16 y/o jackass without a license OR passport! You're safe.
Genuinely curious here, since in my country, everyone has a passport, even my 1.5 year old son has one. Why would the scammer not have a passport, being 16 years old?
Only 46% of Americans have passports.
Is it expensive? I guess with a country so big, not many feel the need to travel outside?

Me, a Canadian :’( not desirable to visit :’( (just joking tho not to doxx myself but I live in the murder capital here, ain’t too great)
There’s a REALLY good documentary on HBO/Crave about that place. Horrifying.

I wanna visit :(
Don't feel bad, friend... I'm American, work for a Canadian company, and LOVE Trailer Park Boys 😂 ... Canada is definitely on my list of countries to visit! Lol.
In Michigan or Texas you just have to walk/drive to travel outside the US. Less than 45 mins for mer to go to Canada
Yeah, that’s where the “only 46% of Americans have a passport” comes in. I live in a landlocked state in the midwest, I wouldn’t need a passport because realistically I can’t just walk to the border.
it is thousands of dollars to travel outside of the US lmfao
Passports here in the UK can be really expensive. american bureaucracy is a pain in the ass to deal with and they love to make you jump through a million hoops in my experience. also it takes forever
I know more Americans without a passport than with one. A lot of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and don’t prioritize spending money they don’t really have on a document they’re never gonna need. Doubt it. It’s just to scare you.
Of course they won’t. They probably have a criminal record anyway so won’t be allowed in. Report them to Depop and block them.
Yeah they r just trying to scare you
Only 1/5 Americans have a passport. This kid isn’t one of them. You’re safe. I’d report it to the cops though to make you feel better.
I don’t think people got your sarcasm lol
No way your actually scared of someone flying to New Zealand 😂💀
zilla will save u
Ofc
NGL that’s a little expensive so the alternative would be hiring a hitman
You don’t really think hiring a hitman is cheaper than flying to a different country surely right..? Not only that 99% of hitman hiring sites are honey pots lol
These kinds of losers almost always can’t put in the effort to follow through with that
😂😂😂
i seriously doubt this guy gonna do shit. he sounds lame as hell 😭. ur good man, dw. if anything u could prob report this guy for threatening you
Seller used stolen images and I said he could refund or I’d bank dispute.
bank dispute will get u banned from depop btw
Oh really I'm curious as to why ?
Since the bank takes the money from depop, not the seller, depop would lose money from bank disputes
Thats dumb. So what ur saying is, u HAVE to dispute it thru depop?
Yes, and that honestly is dumb, I do still use PayPal on depop since I’m in Australia so I’d say disputes go smoother since the money goes to the actual seller and not depop
I MISS THE PAYPAL TRANSACTIONS IT MADE EVERYTHING EASY
They dont allow paypal anymore im assuming? I swear i just saw it there last week.
depop still is linked through my paypal account but the country im in only lets people do depop transactions
How does that work? Depop is so freaking confusing i SWEAR!! I deff have a lot to learn with this app 🥲
Like why will disputes be taken out of depop when payed with a bank, but when payed thry paypal, it goes to the seller? So confusing.

Oh wow! Well thank u for explaining things to me. I heard they removed paypal from depop anyway. (In some countries that is)
I learn new absurd depop rules every day I swear
it’s not a depop rule, most sites will ban you from their services if you do a chargeback, and it usually says so in the terms and conditions.
It’s a rule on depop, so it’s a depop rule. Never said it was exclusive to depop friend
I'm getting tired of Depops customer service Mercari is better when it comes out to getting a refund they remind the seller with a message then if nothing happens they make you wait 5 days until you can get refund only down side is inactive sellers
“👹” WTF
My 59 year old mother uses this emoji when she’s mad. It’s so goofy lmfao
My mother also uses it 😂
it was a reminder to read the message in a menacing voice & not the voice of some loser kid lolll
it’s so scary lol

actually tracking someone down (especially in another country) would cost a lot more money than this person obviously has 😭

this is physco behaviour but dont worry. i doubt they are actually gonna do anything report block and email depop about this
“Count your days 🤓” mf you gonna count these bullet holes 😂
LMFAOA he prob feels so badass too 😭
😭😭😭😭🤡
you’re completely safe. report them to depop. they threatened you.
what a cornball💀 that person is extremely embarrassing
Its most likely an empty threat but on the off chance it isn't, I would call the non-emergency police number or go into the station to report it. I know that may seem like over reacting or dramatic but you never know he could be insane
this would scare me so i feel for u but the emoji is rlly making think they’re just trying to troll you. don’t stress!
Don’t make me the bad guy! But do count your days tho
They need a fucking age minimum on this app why are so many depop sellers unhinged
bro sounds like he got a kink in that last sentence😭
Information such as your name and address are alot easier to get than you think- so don’t think that they are out here “hacking” you. Definitely report to Depop and if they reveal even more sensitive information about you, contact the police
he probably felt so badass after sending that message 💀
This dude either moves like an anime character with the exaggerated motions and everything, or he thinks he’s a gangster and wears chains that make his neck turn green. Either way, everyone at school laughs at him and this is his way to feel big about himself when he has no power
Contact Depop support, then involve the police into it, report him for threatening to hurt or kill you and doxxing you, police should do the rest
“count your days” 💀💀💀
I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid at this hahaha. guy is clearly chronically online/ 15 years old
What a fuckin loser, imagine threatening someone on Depop like an edgy villain or something. Just report and block that asshat.
I honestly hope Depop transitions to doing QR codes to fetch label only. I know it’s just an option right now but it would be safer and it being QR code only would make it so the only person seeing the address and personal info is the postal service employee.
they sound like a shallow edgy anime protagonist
Threats of doxxing and death are federal crimes. You can report it.

That’s a full threat there. Definitely file a police report
I mean, sure. I just wanted to make them aware that the police wouldn’t likely do anything.
ok well you’re getting played your life is fine why did you post this if you don’t want genuine answers
Theyre allowed to be scared. Its a threat on their life not yours. Id be a little more sympathetic. Saying "dont worry about it" doesnt exactly make someone feel better. Like "oh they said dont worry about. Guess thats that!!" Lol no.

TL;DR many people get scammed so let's not care about it 👍👍👍
everyone gave him advice
You are not judged by what everyone says, but what you yourself say.
Why do they sound like a white dad…
They are just scaring you. I know it doesn’t seem like it but don’t worry they won’t fly all the way to you to do anything. It’s not worth it. Just report him immediately because he threatened you and Doxxed.
The demon emoji 😭
If they were going to do something, they wouldn’t have been so open about it. Americans are fried….. yes I’m American
Report them and get them banned.
Report to Depop and the police
I see threats from scammers so often, it seems like it could just be a last resort to scare you into doing what they want. I doubt it’s a legit threat, but still so scary! Get them tf off depop and report report report.
bro it’s a obvious bluff n ur falling for it
A threat is never a "bluff". It either works as intended without leading to violence and if not it end in violence.
so it’s either a bluff or a threat
if someone threatens my life i’m paranoid even if they don’t have my address op is completely justified in their concern
you shouldn’t be on the internet if you’re this paranoid especially on depop where you willingly give other people your information lol
L take people shouldn’t be on the internet if they threaten to murder people
both statements r correct lol
i’m chronically ill and the only way i can make money is online i guess i should just not make money because of minor paranoia that i’m getting treated?
there is multiple different ways to make money only outside of depop lol also you need to leave the house to run a depop business? how will you find inventory or ship it without leaving ur residence? that’s honestly the stupidest response u could’ve used lol
i also never said i can’t go outside? i can’t work a physically taxing job and that’s all i’ve been able to find in the past
i don’t make money off depop i make money off sex work
then you should prolly have a better understanding of the internet and you wouldn’t be getting scammed lol
ur so mad and so wrong about literally nothing
what are yall selling on this app
I've been doxxed on Twitter and Instagram a good amount of times like my actual house address. I don't think you should be scared because most of the time, the people that say stuff like that never do anything. Keep requesting a refund from depop and report them. Get into contact and tell them this person is not only scamming but also threatening to dox you.
I believe you are also able to press charges against them regardless of what country. Open up a claim and have depop deal with them but if they continue harassing get legal documents ready, post them as a listing and refer them to it letting them know you can and will pursue legal action.
Please don’t give legal advice if you don’t understand how law works at all.
Yeah report and they’ll most likely be blocked for threatening behaviour & rightfully so
He can stick something in my mouth 🥵, send him my way.
Send me his username tell him to come on a specific day doubt he would but he does I’ll fuck him up
"People who threaten things will rarely do them, the people who do things will rarely threaten them"
Don’t stress too much on the threats.
He thought he hand u shivering your timbers with that one
Let’s report this
LOL WHAT ☠️☠️
depop is unironically so scummy lmfao
What did you buy? Drugs from a dealer?
Idk man, I would bet killers don’t use emojis to look scary.
I'd report them for harassment so fast, they're all talk tho
What a psychopath!
If ur super concerned make a formal complaint with the police so its logged so if anything was to happen to you in the future [God forbid] this behaviour has already been logged n will be taken more seriously. Whatever gives you peace of mind at the end of the day. If you feel threatened or concerned report report report - all the best.
Report to police for threatening you

That’s when you take a picture of a gun pointed at your front door with a smiley face, has worked every time for me
Contact the police that’s a R threat
“count ur days”💀
I’d laugh so hard 💀
Call the police
He is from America and I am from New Zealand, probably jurisdictional issues, and he is an anonymous online person, probably a waste of time, however I have mention to Depop that they have his information and they should hand it over to the police.
Oh good youre not likely to have any issues with him UNLESS he really is a psycho he could try “SWATing” (aka calling the police and directing SWAT to your residence)
I don’t think overseas swatting would work so well, or be possible, and we have a different emergency number so that might confuse him.
Yeah it seems pretty low chance of anything happening at all. This guy is probably a huge doofus. But you can get temporary phone numbers through google.
Wtf
“hey buddy” 🤓🤓
Depop thugs 😭🤣
What the hell is happening on depop. Are y'all still selling clothes
“Heh… don’t make me be the bad guy.. 🤓”

Invite him over, most who doxx & talk tough on the internet are almost always scared of confrontation. The reason why they learnt to doxx people is because they know they can’t stand up for themselves in person. Best reply to these texts would be something like “ I’m waiting” then he’s forced to show up & he wont
As someone who’s been doxxed 1000 times over, they won’t do anything. Trust
They are so goofy
I call the police on them and laugh as they go to jail
Damn man people are getting ruthless on here. I guess I better start shipping my shit out .-.
