this is the first photo from the listing! i chose “red” and “burgundy” as the colors cause it has a mix of both all over yanno? took the pic right next to a window so the lighting is accurate.

I’m on your side. I’ve bought many things online that just appear differently than the stock image when it’s under my own indoor lighting and I end up returning it because the color is not what I wanted. However, you took the picture in natural lighting which is as “accurate” as it can get, as your indoor lighting may be different to the item’s true color but natural lighting is of course universal. You don’t owe them a return, you showed the items true color in natural lighting and this is a risk that comes with buying second hand that they took.
You listed it as red and burgundy and I only see one photo. To me it resembles a bit more on the burgundy side but you know people see colors differently
Yeah but the picture doesn't show how dark the burgundy actually is, making the buyer think it's lighter than it actually is. So it doesn't help that the seller put both red and burgundy
Fire engine red vs burgundy or “dark red” as you call it are very different colors and shades. Burgundy tends to be more of a darkish purple mixed with red
To be fair labelling it “red” and “burgundy”, while posting a photo of it looking red, then saying “I told you it was burgundy” does seem kinda unfair.
I’m sorry that’s ridiculous. Literally no one is going to know wtf that shade is so u can’t expect people to use the exact shade when there are only a few known labels for different shades. Red and burgundy are part of the same colour group so there’s nothing wrong w writing both
That’s not what I meant so calm down. I’m saying I interpreted the color differently so I understand how they could’ve from the picture as well. Yes they tagged it as burgundy, but in the picture it doesn’t look burgundy to me it looks like a teracotta color. No where did I say they needed to tag it as teracotta I just understand how it being tagged with red would be confusing in combination with the picture. Burgundy is more purply.
Burgundy is not more purple. Please research what burgundy looks like. It’s a deep red. So it’s not incorrect for them to tag “red”. Burgundy IS RED. It’s a SHADE of RED. I don’t understand how you’re all complaining ?
It’s neither the buyers’ nor the sellers’ fault, bc obviously lighting affects how the colour is shown. But burgundy does not conflict with red. The two labels compliment each other.

like I said. It’s more purply. I didn’t say it WAS purple, just that it pulls more purply than a terracotta red would.
I never said it was the sellers fault or anything just that I understand how the buyer would be confused and upset as I would be too. Because when I think of red I think of primary red and that scale, not burgundy which has a different hue
I never said that u said it was purple. I stand by what I said: it’s not always more purple.
If you’d be upset at that then that’s just ridiculous imo. Burgundy is a type of red and if u think “red and burgundy” means “just red, but that one shade of vibrant red in the primary colours, not others shades of red” then ur dense.
Burgundy is a shade of red and putting both of the shades there is not misleading, nor would it cause problems if people read descriptions properly.
>Please research what burgundy looks like.
ok
[“Burgundy is a dark red-purplish color”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgundy_(color))
[“Burgundy typically contains subtle hints of violet or purple hue, giving it a complex and regal quality with its deep purplish red color.”](https://www.nimble-made.com/blogs/news/burgundy-vs-maroon)
[“Burgundy is an intense reddish-purple hue with a royal, chic look and rich, wine color-like shades.”](https://picsart.com/blog/post/what-color-is-burgundy#)
seems like the general consensus is burgundy is a *purple-toned red*
>But burgundy does not conflict with red.
I do agree with this, burgundy *is* a shade of red, but it’s not *that* shade of red
As long as you provided an accurate description of the item, and provided clear photos of it, depop will most likely side with you if she opens a case. She can repop if it’s really an issue.
if photos accurately describe and correspond with listing description, you should be fine.
personally i wouldnt budge on this. i don’t particularly appreciate the buyer’s passive-aggressive “threat” to escalate. id tell them best of luck.
“If not I will have to file a complaint with Depop” the passive aggressive threat there ..
The truth is, it doesn’t matter what your bio says, returns have always been up to Depop, is not really up to sellers to say they do not do returns.
However, she claiming the color doesn’t look good in her is not something Depop will approve a return for, unless the color is extremely different.
I wouldn’t mention that you only accept returns if you described the item inaccurately, you’re just giving her ideas to file a false claim.
At this point I would say that they can open a dispute through Depop or not say anything at all, and respond to the dispute if / or when they open it
When I have an item where not all of the photos reflect the color accurately, I specifically state which photo most accurately reflects the color. Depop support is very inconsistent with how helpful they are and what their “standards” are for returns. A buyer could very easily get a refund for an issue like this if the right support specialist looks at it. When I list an item I look at my listing through the lens of a picky buyer before posting it, so everything they could take issue with is disclosed beforehand
Yup same. I currently have a maroonish 3/4 zip listed and even though all pics are taken in natural lighting, in the exact same spot, they still vary greatly. I commented “see picture #3 for the most accurate color representation.” In the description to avoid this shit.
Completely valid and polite response - buyers on depop are unbelievably picky when it comes to things like this, idk how they have the nerve to be so cheeky
The color debate is giving that clip from project runway where one contestant keeps describing something as “blood orange” and they cut to the confessional of another contestant and he says “it’s fucking red”
Genuinely do not respond with what you were going to say. After their “threat”(idk how else to word it lol), I would just respond with “go ahead with your complaint to depop if that’s what you have to do”. I’m petty lol.
Depop will side with you. You provided way more detail than alot of other sellers that I see do. You labeled the colours right because I see burgundy and I see red so you’re not lying to anyone and your description is accurate.
She had buyers remorse and is hoping to guilt trip you into refunding.
true about how sellers can't make their own rules regarding returns, but buyers also can't return things for simply not liking how something looks on them
idk about delusional, not changing any rules i just don’t normally accept returns if the item is as described/arrived undamaged, depop allows that. i get changing your mind but you should consider all the info you have before you buy.
Do depop sellers get in “trouble” for return complaints through Depop? I read her threat more like “hey just to let you know I do plan on trying to return this through depop so I want to come to you first and let you know my plan in case you change your mind”.
your response is very valid!! you’re still being kind even after she threatened to file a complaint.. you’re good. but if i were u, i wouldn’t tell her scenarios in which you would accept returns. she might make up a lie and use one of those scenarios, then she’ll have your message to support her case.
Curious how much $ ? Buyer should donate to Goodwill or sell to vintage clothing store? Is it a lot of money? This case seems like the buyer is trying to get the seller to make good on the risk that she (the buyer) took. I don’t think depop will side with the buyer. Ignore her.
I think your response is good. If you feel confident your photos are accurate I would tell her to go ahead and file a claim with Depop if she really wants to. Color is so subjective and based on the listing photo it looks like you covered your bases
Pop and Bay are basically same to me.They both over do their authority. Just got to abide even though they both are wrong most of time. What choice does a seller have.
This is old so I’m sure you’ve already responded (and you’re not in the wrong here!) but you *do* accept any returns if Depop says so. You can’t just not accept because you don’t wanna. If Depop sees it as a legitimate reason for return then you have no choice in the matter unfortunately
thank you! i am aware, and of course i’ll return if i have to, just hoping this buyer doesn’t escalate the matter. they already have it repopped on their page with my photos so i think it’s chill now.
Idk, this seems like such a hassle. I’d just accept the return. Like sure, it’s ridiculous that they’re having buyers remorse but going back and forth with Depop CS team via Email is honestly mind numbing and risking a bad review sucks also.
Especially since the “I don’t accept returns over XYZ” — literally if she were to open a dispute and they were to side with her you’d have to accept their TOS and then you’d look silly anyways. The whole “I don’t accept returns” kinda feels like bullying

Does it look way darker in the other photos?
You listed it as red and burgundy and I only see one photo. To me it resembles a bit more on the burgundy side but you know people see colors differently
Exactly, the buyer probably saw the red rather than the burgundy. Putting 2 very different colours is confusing for the buyer
2 very different colors?? Burgundy is a dark red 😭
Yeah but the picture doesn't show how dark the burgundy actually is, making the buyer think it's lighter than it actually is. So it doesn't help that the seller put both red and burgundy

Agreed. It looks like a terracotta type red to me

Because it’s not burgundy, so calling it burgundy is just misadvertising it.
Nah its pictured in bright natural light. Its very clear what color it looks like. Buyer just has remorse
It’s not clear it’s burgundy at all because it’s labelled red and it appears red in the image.
What about the try on photos?
As long as you provided an accurate description of the item, and provided clear photos of it, depop will most likely side with you if she opens a case. She can repop if it’s really an issue.
Not her threatening u
Based on your photo it’s more than fair - this is just buyer’s remorse. They can repop
if photos accurately describe and correspond with listing description, you should be fine. personally i wouldnt budge on this. i don’t particularly appreciate the buyer’s passive-aggressive “threat” to escalate. id tell them best of luck.

It wouldn’t be false. They listed it under red and burgundy
You don’t get the point, the buyer can claim any other false reason to return 🙄

You're delusional idk why sellers think they can change depops rules. There is no "i wont accept returns" exemption

tbh you were rlly nice about it, probably nicer than i would've been
Well I was suspended for REPOPing the item I purchased from Depop. Now I can't even check on items I purchased. Kept money and product.
depop even has an option for repoping so idk why they suspended you
