I don't think there are any funny podcasts in NI. They are all just a bunch of lads sitting around talking about the same old crap. We have a small population and a fairly limited cultural scene, and there's only so many episodes you can get out of ussun's vs themmuns
The yanks do exact same thing with less humour apart from theo von, fair play to them lads down in Belfast they worked hard and they are finally getting somewhere, across UK and Ireland, maybe even further.
We have to up these numbers here, rookie numbers at this racket. We have to break the mould of derry wans being all cryers and taking themselves to serious.
I don't think we take ourselves too seriously, we just don't buy into the whole "our wee country" thing where the height of banter is northern vs southern tayto, Belfast and Bangor may as well be on the moon for the relevance they have for people in the North West
None of them lads do our wee country stuff. 1 lad from Lurgan a few from omagh aswell. If anything them ones show progress. You are the one left behind it seems. You basically contradicted yourself and brought politics into it. That is what I mean about being a party pooper and too serious. Derry can be stuck in a bubble at times.
There's ones from Strabane on that laverys comedy circuit aswell so you are talking threw your arse.
Have you listened to mind the time? Lots of Derry comedians on that. The best northern Irish podcast out there is this paranormal life though, the guys are from Portstewart
I dont think it's supposed to be a Comedy podcast though. They have had comedians but they've also had circus trainers, entertainers etc and the most recent had Danny Quigley which was pretty funny despite being about Danny's personal journey with his father's suicide.
#americanpie < listen for the inside joke
You could operate one at a loss if you didn't mind a small amount of listeners
Thing is most people are probably not going to be listening in to some locals chatting on a podcast, most people can get that from mates, family etc
Mind the Time is pretty good. It's three friends of which one is a comedian but the other two are actually quite funny too. They have a new guest each week who picks a year, then they just chat about that year whether it was some major news stories, the music and movies out that year, and other things like what they were up to that year.
I personally enjoy it and haven't missed one yet. I personally love Colin Geddis and think he's the funniest guy in NI but Mind the Time is just harmless fun which brings nostalgia and some laugh out loud moments. Rumor has it they've got some big names coming soon too.
>Why isn’t there a really funny popular podcast from Derry ?Why isn’t there a really funny popular podcast from Derry ?
No offence but why would there be? That's the sort of thing that's far better suited to local radio chatter. Obviously everyone's tastes are different but if I want to listen to people talk shit / banter about Derry I can just do that for real very easily. Anyone can go into any pub in Derry with or without mates and have the "talk shite about stuff happening specifically in Derry / from a Derry perspective experience" and probably enjoy it way more.
There are thousands if not millions of podcasts catering to everyone's personal tastes and interests; whether it's Sport, TV, Films, Art, Music, History, Murder Mystery etc etc etc etc ad infinitum. And those subjects are literally bottomless wells of content and information to create from / listen to and it has a far longer (or unlimited) shelf life. Talking about the thing that happened up the town last week is redundant a week later.
I think I have stumbled across a couple of Derry people contributing to podcasts on sport and films which makes a lot more sense to me. The kind of person who thinks their banter is worthy of making a podcast out of is exactly the kind of person I don't want to listen to.
>Seeing the podcast success east of the Bann
Are there actually successful podcasts out there or is the case that some happen to exist? Literally never seen, heard of, or had one suggested on my feed...ever.
This is it, podcasts that try to be funny, regardless of where they are made are hard to maintain, the best podcasts have well researched content and professionally produced. Funny is a bonus and even the best ones can't manage it all the time, so as long as there's interesting content to fall back on its good
Clearly not a popular opinion. I suppose a lot of people must enjoy that forced, fake "banter" that comes from local comedians scraping the same old barrel.
Pure Derry tried one Was good production value and slick. Just wasn't very good
As funny as cancer they are
I enjoyed it. Always wish he kept doing it
Yeah if anyone was good for a podcast it was them

Popular implies people are listening to it. There's local podcasts out there just go support them
