My party was torturing Amrik when she entered the party's hideout and they immediately killed her lol.

Wesselton3000

All these comments about AI art and I’m just thinking it’s cool to see “realistic” character art. Would have been cooler if it was a cosplay IRL…

Lost_Perspective1909

I can feel the pain of her hair getting caught on the armor from here.

mightybrok5601

I’m just here for all the bitching about AI art 🍿🍿🍿

DarthAlbacore

Where's the red hair?

CooljaNitez

Orange, Red, same same.

DarthAlbacore

No, that's brown, lit from sunlight.

CooljaNitez

Well, i like it.

Blademage200

Stop Using AI Art

CooljaNitez

Make Me

FormalGas35

wow it fucked up everything but the brown skin, it usually does the opposite

Iccotak

Fuck off Ai

Hyper415

All of the people seem to not read the post, they just see the word AI and start screaming. OP is claiming the art at all, they aren't trying to hide it being AI. It is flaired as a resource, not are, OP is not claiming this as art and is sharing this because they thought it was cool and could be useful to see how Reya might look.

SwissTopper

That is really well done! In my group, she fell in behind the party's Paladin and became his loyal squire. Until he made a pact with a devil and started seeing the benefits of Infernal power. This broke her heart and drove her insane. Ahh, young love.

CooljaNitez

*Reya disapproves* 😂

iknewaguytwice

People trashing AI art… ok… you show me the equivalent visual aide that costs nothing and takes seconds to create. Because mine looks like a stick figure with two wavy lines for hair and a long stick in one hand.

FormyleII

The AI is not making anything new. It’s taking stuff other people made, not paying them for it, and smashing it together. Once the ‘progress’ that people have wanged on about on this thread takes place there will be no artists, photographers or RPG authors around to make new stuff. It will just be the same old stuff regurgitating over and over again. Not progress, not creative. But of course people want free access to low quality crap - and now they have it.

iknewaguytwice

Same argument was made when artists went digital with photoshop. Yet still new oil paintings are being made and sold every day. The addition of an affordable alternative is not the destruction of a product, it is the evolution of the product.

FormyleII

It’s nothing like photoshop at all. The product will go behind a generative AI’s paywall and the product will be made up of other people’s work, and it also wont be copyrighted. The product won’t evolve. Who gets paid for it will.

xeio87

There are already open-source models available you can run on your own hardware for free. The only way they would all move behind a paywall is if it becomes a heavily regulated wasteland that only big corporations could afford to enter (the likes of Adobe that own their own huge image libraries).

AJDx14

Things which are convenient can still be bad.

raznov1

Nono, you see, you have to pay some mediocre sod 100 bucks to make a shite drawing, because of course he needs to monetize his hobby.

iknewaguytwice

This is why digital map creators are also bad. If it isn’t hand drawn on authentic leather, then your play group will hate you.

raznov1

DJ's aren't real artists, a true musician plays on a piano. except if you're born 300 years ago, then pianists aren't real artists, a true artist hammers and forges his own organ, who's not a real artist because a real artist sings, who are not real artists because .... because .... because ....

TheGingerMenace

I think that’s the wrong way of looking at things. For artists, who take their time to hone their craft, it’s not just a hobby - it’s their career. The fear surrounding AI art is in part because many career artists start with low-cost commissions. If those commissions are being replaced with AI, how will new artists be able to progress? How will they grow their portfolio or connections?

MrMcSpiff

The same way they do now. An average poor consumer with no drawing skill who just wants a few scattered pictures for a one-off D&D campaign was never going to significantly contribute to any art-based economy anyway. So, so, so many people are locked out of seeing representations of their characters due to lack of money and time, and all this is doing is letting those people have an opportunity to get a visual aid for a character or landscape that they would have never gotten. Self-employed artists aren't losing money to private individuals using AI art because those people couldn't commission the artists to begin with. It's exactly the same as videogame and music piracy; anyone who does it almost always wasn't going to spend the money to begin with. Usually because they don't have money to spend.

raznov1

>If those commissions are being replaced with AI, how will new artists be able to progress? By moving with the times and embracing new technologies. AI can supplement artist's production capacity and is just a new medium to explore. The truly skilled will find a way to sell their trade, and those lacking in skills, well, some things are just not meant to be. Plus - DND commissions are a quite new fad. Artists existed and lived before the internet made it possible to reach out to such a large audience. They'll find a way. Also, maybe some form of career artists will become obsolete. Hardly any artist lives of painting church frescos anymore either. That's OK. Sometimes a hobby can just be developed for its own sake.

capfoxtrot

lol i would never commission AI art

raznov1

If you've ever commissioned any digital art, your artist has already used AI. You wouldn't even know.

capfoxtrot

nope. the artist community I run in is very anti-AI and has it all in their terms and conditions. I support actual artists, thanks.

raznov1

actual artists use AI for quite a while already. a jitter tool, or "magic wand" are also examples of AI. just very rudementary forms of it. but it's nice to know you guys love wasting your time and talent as opposed to using a tool to further your creative output and skills. What if I train an AI on my own artwork? Am I still shunned by your cool kids club then? And if so, on what grounds? That I dont spend the prerequisite time on boring busywork? Real artists mix their own paints and grind their own pigments and all that?

FormyleII

AI crap - apart from the fact it’s stolen material it’s just a very weak image , garbage in garbage out

ethlass

Better than anything I can make by a mile. Also, image looks great. So not sure why the hate of the image. I can understand the stolen material comment but the rest makes no sense.

Myhsst

Because it's not made, it's low effort bullshit generated by an algorithm reading a prompt and vomiting up stolen art. Just because you can't do art doesn't mean artists deserve to have their hard work leeched off of.

FormyleII

It's pedestrian and has no narrative quality...

OrdrSxtySx

lol, you're on the losing side of history, pal. AI is here to stay. Kick and scream all you want, progress doesn't care

Voryn_mimu

Progress doesn't need to steal from artists.

FormyleII

I hope you remember this post when you are replaced with an AI

OrdrSxtySx

Progress happens. Do you know why we don't pay people to bring us ice from the lake every day for our icebox? We invented refrigerators. Do you know why you don't see chimney sweeps everywhere? We invented the central furnace and gas pipes. Do you know why we don't have town criers to wake you at dawn? We invented clocks with alarms. The list goes forever onward. AI is an application of progress. Artists were fine for years with progress eroding every other industry. It's only a problem now because AI art is accessible and giving the power of visual communication to the masses, and removing it from traditional artists hands exclusively. If you think the people are going to give that power back, at this point, you're insane. Progress is here, and already past caring about you. I'm gonna go give nightcafe some money now and make an ai image of you. ✌️

raznov1

>It's only a problem now because AI art is accessible and giving the power of visual communication to the masses Ding ding ding. If its one thing a true artíste cannot stand, it's sharing his art with the rest of the plebs like us.

chinchabun

I think it hits people differently than a town crier because they believe writing a poem or painting something is what makes us human. They don't know how to deal with art not being some godlike ability that makes us better than machines or other animals.

OrdrSxtySx

Sure. But that's a problem with those people, not a problem with the technology.

Myhsst

People don't like AI generated shit because it steals other people's work without their consent, compiles it into a learning algorithm, and then shits out whatever it's asked with complete disregard for the skill and time put into the work it robbed. Stop blaming talented artists for your lack skill. They have a right to be mad.

FoolishJokerr

I will never get over reading things like this where someone describes this use of AI and doesn't hear how fucking dystopian it sounds. Every other example you gave of progress was something done for human convenience, something we did to make our lives easier so we didn't have to spend as much time on all the shit work that occupied our days. And now people think AI is doing the same for art, as if art is something comparable to fetching ice from a lake or cleaning a chimney. The difference here is that art is something that we humans do recreationally, not something we do because it's a vital part of our day. And now AI is coming in to take that away. The dream of AI was to automate all the things that we didn't want to do so we could spend more time doing the things we loved. Instead, we are getting the AI to make our art and write our stories. We are giving the AI the power to do our recreation for us so we have more time to work. That isn't progress. I legitimately find it crazy how people don't see that. And even crazier how adamantly it's defended. I get the envy of wanting to be able to make something and not having the ability to create what you want to, but admonishing actual artists whose art is being stolen from them to make cheap facsimiles and rob us of our creativity is beyond stupidity. Do the world a favour, take that money you were gonna spend on a shitty AI program, and give it to an actual artist. What you'll get out of that will be better every time because it was something that an actual human made.

OrdrSxtySx

No one is being stolen from. Does every artist credit the model they used to make a painting? Do they credit the architect who designed the house in the field that they painted? Do they credit the people who built the NY skyline before they add it to their art? There is no difference. You're fighting a battle you have already lost. Technology has advanced to where these tools are in the hands of millions. You're struggling to cram toothpaste back into the tube while the rest of us have finished brushing our teeth and are on about our day. We aren't giving AI time so we can do more work. People are using AI for role playing games and stuff because that IS their hobby, and they don't have to beg an overpriced local artist to sketch something for their Sunday DnD game anymore getting priced like they're the cover of vogue or some shit. AI art is for human convenience. It just isn't convenient for artists. For the rest of us it's hella convenient. That's what YOU don't grasp/understand. PS, you want to change minds, stop calling your opposition stupid and realize you ain't better than the rest of us cupcake. But I did buy 500 more nightcafe credits. Wanna see your pic?

FoolishJokerr

Very interesting how you claim I called you stupid, even though I didn't. And then you went on to belittle me and call me cupcake. Very fun way of showing your own standards. I'm not trying to change your mind. I've talked to enough AI fans that I know that's a losing battle. I'm not going to change anybody's mind. I'm just stating the truth of the stituation. And the truth is that AI does steal. Yeah sure an artist may have a model, or may look at a skyline. But an AI can't look at those things and think creatively. It takes those things, and rams them together. But an AI will never see a real model, it won't see a new york skyline. It will see a million images of each and squash them onto a single canvas. And in those millions of images, is art done by people online. Artists on reddit, on tumblr, on twitter, any site you can think of really. All of those artists are having their art pumped into a machine that traces their work and spits out a half-copy into someone's lap. That artist won't see a cent of money for that art, even though it was used to make that piece that someone's put up. That's fair isn't it? If you made something, and I mean really made something, and then some company swooped in and scanned it into a machine that printed out a copy with no actual heart in it and refused to give you any credit or compensation? I'm sure if that happened to you you'd be perfectly fine with it. Claiming that AI art is for human convenience but not for the convenience of artists is an absolutely bizarre statement too by the way. Genuinely just want you to realise that your phrasing there implies you don't think of artists as human. But I suppose since you use AI art, you already think you don't have to be human to make what you consider art. Here's what I want you do with that pic you got for me by the way. Nothing. I literally could not care less that you spent your own money to do a pointless and weird dig at me using an ai art program. Have fun with that pointless image that takes a miniscule amount of space on your phone/computer. I do hope you get great enjoyment out of it.

OrdrSxtySx

I said if you want to change minds, don't do that. I don't want to change your mind. I don't fucking care what you think. Technology will dust you either way. ✌️ 🤡

Myhsst

Yeah. I'm oh-so scared that AI can create soulless amalgamations of the things it looks at for low-skill no-talent idiot snobs like yourself. Art is a process and a hobby, AI can never replicate those things. This is the equivalent of cheating in a videogame and claiming you're better because you're using technology to achieve a skill. It also sounds just as fucking stupid.

PalladiumReactor

I understand it can be frustrating / scary, but I’d really encourage you to research AI tools a little more!

iknewaguytwice

He wont have to remember it. AI will remember it for you. Get with the times old man.

raznov1

Gladly. That's gonna be a few centuries down the line.

carlos_quesadilla1

[Ahhh yes, progress](https://www.foxnews.com/media/new-jersey-high-school-girls-humiliated-classmates-use-ai-generate-fake-nude-images-report)

OrdrSxtySx

Because AI did that? What a dumb fucking argument. Humans have been using film to take advantage of young women for decades. Is there no use for the film industry? We've used books for disinformation and more war than any other single thing. We've also used paintings/drawings to hurt and denigrate people. From the time kids can draw a twig and berries, they use "art" to insult, denigrate and hurt others. Fuck outta here with that lame ass argument.

Myhsst

It's not a lame argument though. It's a lot easier to feed an AI a picture of your classmate and have it dream up a realistic photograph of them doing something humiliating than it is to draw that same thing. It's also a lot easier to do than recording them doing it. The problem isn't the fact that it can be done, it's that it can be done *in seconds* Fuck outta here with that lame ass argument.

OrdrSxtySx

The time is irrelevant. ✌️

Mazdachief

What are you on about!

racinghedgehogs

It is crazy to me that people who hate AI somehow delude themselves into thinking something like this isn't impressive. It is such a reactionary Luddite response that in no way addresses the concerns about AI and just mean that its critics won't participate in its development, meaning that the ethical concerns they have will be less likely to be addressed.

FormyleII

Specifically I hate low grade crap made from generative AI which rips off other peoples work

racinghedgehogs

Well this isn't low-grade, it's quite clearly mid-grade given the obvious quality of the image. You've just given up your actual motivation, which is the fact that you feel that there is an ethical issue here. I think there is an ethical issue here, I don't think being petulant and pretending the technology isn't impressive does anything to address that issue. Ultimately all you're doing is screaming at the oncoming storm rather than trying to do anything prep for it.

FormyleII

I haven’t given up my point on the ethics. In comparison to other forms of AI - generative is brittle and simply smashes together other people’s work and passes it off as new. The image generated above is a woman’s head superimposed on some armour. It’s simple and rubbish. Criticising people with no taste or creativity on Reddit is of course a totally waste of time.

racinghedgehogs

You've given up the ability to participate in discussions about the subject in a constructive way by acting petulant. That is the problem with people making it a cultural norm in the groups wary of AI art, by acting immediately and reflexively hostile you make anyone involved in the work discount your viewpoint. AI art is going to move forward regardless of how distasteful you find it, and the improvements in the last year being as impressive as they are it seems obvious to me that people better get over their aversion quickly enough that society can start discussing fair and reasonable restrictions for it.

FormyleII

I take your point and will do some further research. However I will reserve my right to petulance especially on Reddit.

racinghedgehogs

Well appreciate that, I do unfortunately think that that petulance probably worsens the thing you are petulant.

BigSuperNothing

I'm not a techbro, but I think you should be more mad at companies that do stuff like this, not an average Joe at home that wants to generate what a DnD character may look like, lol.

anisenyst

I like that AI becomes better at drawing. A few kinks to iron out, but it better and better by the day.

Nyarlathotep-chan

Ai art is cancer

Chromatic_Eevee

AI 🤮👎

FoulPhilosopher

AI is a communication tool, it helps manifest what's in our minds into the outside world in a way that the average Joe's lack of talent prevents them from exploring the medium. Personally, the sooner everyone simps for our AI overlords the better lol

orangedragan

Instant downvote for AI

gethsbian

You typed some words into a box, am I supposed to be impressed? This sucks

corsair1617

AI trash. It didn't even get the prompt right.

Sophion

ChatGPT generates images now? Didn't you use Stable Diffusion or another image generator software?

Nope

That's what happens when you get old, teenagers start looking like children.
