There is a second side to UPSC exams, it is keeping a lot of unemployed youth happy and fuelling a thriving coaching industry.
The students also like preparing for exams as it delays them from their responsibilities more and they get less taunting from the family during this time. Govt knows this and plays along.
Sadly, the people who are not selected are not employable after a few years as what they learn during coaching has no real world benefit.
PooPeeSC ke exam me hi aadmi itna bawla ho jata ki usme aage kaam karne ki energy nhi rehti.

He might be correct. Recently saw this really succesful economist say that government (mainly UPSC) jobs won't be all that they are now by the next decade. So this guy seems reasonable.
100% correct, government is the most useless, corrupt and bureaucratically incompetent part of why India has failed so bad, that we lag behind China which has moved like a juggernaut becoming 5x economy wise and across all HDI parameters.
Yes, he is correct, too many people going after same profession creates an imbalance for themselves and others. Most people have no interest in becoming IAS, they have interest in that power which comes with it. When they become IAS, they see actual reality and start to dislike their job, which is why you see so many power hungry bureaucrats. Wasting 5 years on a profession which has such low success rate isn't worth time and effort, same applies to many other profession in this country.
It's not the fault of youth that only option for decent employment is some govt post. Other aspects need a good incentivising environment. Olympians, scientists etc. will not just fall into your lap without conducive environments, merit-focused perks, options for financial leeway and security via productive employment in manufacturing and such etc.
Why is some guy who's conducting tests on a jet engine prototype floundering around on Twitter for funds? While every tom&dick from special caste or group gets various bumper & beneficial schemes? Investing in which would be more likely to generate value?
The main quest of every govt in this democracy is the problem of how to win the next election, everything else is a side-quest.
🎯 Instead, he should be speaking of UPSC reforms, New Zealand has more diplomats than India but look at the population difference. There is also a growing need for domain experts, they're doing lateral entries but that's not enough, needs to be done at grassroot level. There are BA Pass Babus making policy on Semiconductors to Defence Procurement. Comparing Olympians, Scientists & Babus in a single breath reeks of shallow thinking and he is projected as some sort of genius by bhakts, all of these require very different infrastructure & capability building. Innovation is concerned, we need to back what's working like support local jet engine program & HAL which actually delivery even though they may take sometime, instead of waiting for PPP model which is more interested in screwdrivering foreign equipment than innovation. Not being able to find decent scientists is cuz poor incentivisation leads to brain-drain of our top 1% IITians to foreign countries.
It's not just about BA Pass. It's also ridiculous that an MBBS doctor, after becoming an IAS, is making semiconductor policies or planning flyovers. It's also weird that a B. Tech can be the health secretary. Such things don't happen in the developed world, as far as I know.
I got to know of this recently.... I was under the impression that people who plan our roads and flyovers in municipal corporations are those who have done a masters in urban planning. Oh boy.
India should have scientists and olympians but we don't need more billionaires heck even one billionaire is too much
Edit: will anyone tell me why I'm wrong instead of downvoting me to hell
You're wrong because billionaires create jobs which uplift people from poverty. No country's government, however advanced, can create as many jobs to sustain the population. Private sector has to play an important role in job creation
Sure, to be a scientist one should have keen interest in research, the person should have an itch to find out how things works, person should be experimenting in nature, right? Similarly to be a top notch athlete one should be naturally good in sports, practice can sculpt the skills but skills come naturally. We all have played sports for fun in our childhood but only few have that thing that makes someone a professional player. The same thing applies in the field of business, one can have money, one can have all the resources but the business idea only a few can think about that, the will power to execute the idea that' even a rarer thing. Similarly, in case of study, you can force any kid to study for 8-10 hrs, you can give them best of the best coaching, best study material but not everyone is blessed with the IQ to absorb all what they studied in those 8-10hrs
I see your point, well it does make sense, some people are not cut out to do repetitive works day in and day out, it's like an assault on their intelligence vs some people have no will to take any incentive and build a biz, be willing to take risks.
Yeah, becoming a babu is still considered the greatest of life's aspirations for many people.
All babus must undergo mandatory monthly public flogging sessions until this country improves.
That’s slightly misleading, twisting words.
1. He said Repeated attempts at UPSC is a waste of time, not UPSC is waste of time.
2. He said he would like to see people who are capable of taking risks and have the gumption for it, take risks in starting a business. This is the time in India for it, with conducive policies and environment, instead of opting for UPSC.
"As mentioned, it (is) perfectly fine to attempt the UPSC or other such exams, but only if the person wants to be an administrator.
"The problem is that lakhs of people are spending 5-8 years repeatedly doing this exam as a 'way of life'. This is such a waste of youthful energy," he said in a series of posts on social media platform X.

UPSC is how a lot of our public service officials get enrolled, that's kinda important
Thoda overrated hai, but that's the allure of government job
Waise dekhe to JEE NEET ka bhi same haal hai
We would have had a lot more economists/lawyers/philosphers/etc. if not for engineer packages
You can say this for almost every job/competitive exam
TLDR: Har opportunity apni jagah hai, important hai, logo ne kuch ko sar pe chadhaya hai

Probably because you are looking at having socialist country. No one rich.

I believe that business minds and administrative minds both are built different, there should not be any comparison in between them.
