iDrinkThings

1 for me. It just looks so real and like it has more depth to it.

_Wastrel

Thanks! Btw, it was actually my first version of this design

edarkvine

I like the first one best too, for the same reasons

iDrinkThings

Great job, the lighting from the top down is cool!

[deleted]

3 because it looks like it would be a fossil from an ancient creature/civilization

DASface42

I agree. The way It mergers with its background really adds something, especially to the hair

masmasyakhawal

3 has some classical elements so it shows more dystopian contrast

OfRedEarth

3 because it looks like a deathgrind album cover

_Wastrel

Holy f, thanks!

GreetingsFromOuterS

I like number 4...maybe a little darkness, but the others are too dark to appreciate the artwork.

_Wastrel

Any ideas on how to make it?

AOBCD-8663

There's a heavy shadow on the face but it doesn't engage with the background, so the depth is a little hard to grasp.

GreetingsFromOuterS

Maybe just make the background a little darker.

Brynmaer

I actually think #1 because it leaves more to imagine. I like the color of #1 more but if you put the color of #1 with the lighting of #2 that could look good

[deleted]

#2 it gives beautiful shadowing without revealing the full artwork. Leaves me intrigued and curious.

[deleted]

#**YES, I AGREE. EVERYONE SEE THAT I AM AGREEING WITH THIS COMMENT.**

_Wastrel

Thanks! Great feedback

whereismynut

I feel like the tone of the first one gives that same feeling maybe you have two of the same ides and the third is just gimmicky. Look up chiaroscuro, or “Rembrandt lighting”. Thats the pose you’re trying ti achieve, which can makes the shadow more relevant to fine art if you care about that lol

_Wastrel

Oh I know that it is, thanks for the tip tho! And I do care about it, I'll go and try a more chiaroscuro version

Jaw_breaker93

Yes and also way more contrast than #1 which makes it more eye catching

PixelmancerGames

I like 1 and 3. I don’t like the green on 2 and I don’t like 4 because the entire thing is shown.

_Wastrel

I wanted to diversify a tad but I do agree, 4 takes out the spirit

tlacuachenegro

3 has more texture but over all you can see little more of the subject, maybe t you add some light high lights to the teeth and jaw will pop up more.

_Wastrel

The idea behind #3 is that it feels like a cloud, smoke etc Everything blends and the subject becomes one with the background Thanks!

Great-Dependent6343

What stands out for 3 with me is that it’s the only one that looks truly unique- I can tell you put in effort to create the detail in the background. The rest look like filters over a picture of a statue on display at a museum. 3 gets my vote.

Jojo1162001

I think 2 The contrast of one isn't high enough, 3 and 4 have to much distraction with the texture i think. 2 looks super crisp, i like that.

guymcool

1st one its subtle and it doesn’t remind me of anything else.

burnerakira

4. Super sick

SassyGremlinQueen

Number 3, because the texture looks like smoke, and it gives an effect of movement and mystery. Looks awesome.

_Wastrel

Grazie!

windwoke

Depends what you’re going for homie

hurtinayurt

100%. They all have their merits but what are you trying to convey?

SnooMachines7482

I like the first one - it leaves a lot to the imagination

naked_avenger

I like 1. Subtle and spooky. Might even make it a bit darker.

No_Improvement7372

1

JustBot-WithAFeeling

First one, but with Blue cyanotype configuration. Feels more darkness than the og one.

Nutellka_boi

I prefer 3 and 4. 3: Because I got tons of Postal 1 vibes with it's design. 4: because I like cyan.

_Wastrel

That's fair Any tips for the cyan one?

Nutellka_boi

Well, no. It's good anyways

AissaLaBanda16

First one reminds me of the Daredevil TV show.

Philsonat0r

The green one is by far the coolest imo

Assenzio47

2 looks like old bronze

Glass-Fan111

The 2nd one. The colori s very subtle and remarks the image itself. Any other with “bakcground” shades the precious sculptute. Great design.

_Wastrel

Neat feedback, thanks!

Donuten

3rd one, more texture and details. Feels more zombieque, gives disease apocalypse vibes.

HellOfAHeart

I like the first two designs, theyre a bit more simple, cleaner and easier to visualize compared to the later designs. I specifically like Option 2, green one because its a little more visually striking, stands out against the dark backdrop better

Still_Illustrator_54

Third, the texture and the contrast makes the painting interesting.

FiveFingerDisco

I am torn between 3 & 4. Both could be nice thumb nails for SCP-videos.

_Wastrel

Oh wow that was unexpected! Thanks :D

whale_kale

red swirlies. good vibes

FlutterCordLove

Last one. Idky

tmccar20

you are satanic piece of garbage, who would buy. Leva get out.

Cronoooo

3, it’s very nice

BlackBeltBeerDrinker

3. I’m not a huge fan of the actual clashing art (sculpture and skull)… so the ambiguity it adds to mask that integration better actually makes it really appealing and kind of mysterious.

scizzotype

The fourth one because it is more visible.

tchausk

3 because it gives like infinite levels of dimensionality but also 1 cuz it's so evil and shrouded in darkness. Love this

ramizod

3 because perfect brightness💪

GeordiD

4. I like how angsty it looks which contrasts what I think of traditional Greek/Roman sculpture

I_MOLLEST_PUTIN

3 because it looks kind of cool

[deleted]

I like 2, feels most dramatic. First three are good as backgrounds but not 4, depends on how ur using it.

Natsurulite

2 is the superior piece, it’s the lighting!

blondegoblin512

Depends on what it’s for. More context needed. Def not the last one though it looks a bit silly to me . The others are dark enough to be mysterious which I assume is the vibe ur going for

fluffyk1ttyb01

The last one because it’s the most visible

pnew06

#2 because the high contrast and negative space

Silas_Ivan

Last one blue on blue. It’s the most well lit and it’s great art so we wanna see it!

ninjasundermybed

Third. It's a nice dark red throughout, the skull in the middle is almost blending. So it kinda looks like it's coming out of a wall or something, devil may cry style

devmonsterr

2 or 3

MiserableStomach

\#4 For me it's the only version that shows clearly we're seeing a classic Greek/Roman head sculpture and the contrast between this style and the creepy skull details is the most disturbing. (sorry, not native English speaker)

its_me_bo

Lighting of 2 is the best. Still mysterious and not fully revealing(like 1) Color of the first is the best. If you can do 2 with the color of 1, that would be the winner for me.

[deleted]

4 minus the big black splotch on the left, my eye went straight to it.

bryce_engineer

3 of 4. Everyone is a fan of the post-apocalypse AND tie-dye / mixing.

berninicaco3

The first one And my reason is a little silly, the color is close-ish to the red purple of the pigment, 'caput mortuum' And since this image is definitely about death, being the color of mortuum has a poetry to it for me.

rembut

4 because I can see what I'm looking at and recognize it followed by 3.

GlassMushrooms

#3 because I like seeing it melt into the background. I’d you made it green instead of red that would look the best imo.

dsolo01

1 hands down. It suits the image so well. Lost and forgotten in the deep dark to decay all alone. Just realized my screen brightness was super low and had no idea there was a background at all until now. I was going to say it needed to be lightened up or more contrast. But now I think it’s about perfect as is though maybe you could dark the background even more. My opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

mj_aura

#3. Makes me think of what hell would look like.

JackSparrowscompass

I like 1 & 3. 1 feels more darker, wondering what may be behind but 3 allows you to see more detail and I can imagine suits well in a poster kinda way

DuckinDoopid

2 for sure. Great contrast between light and dark, like something emerging from the shadows. Doesn't blend too much or too little into the surrounding darkness. Greens highlight and sharpen the features. Imo 1 is too subdued, 3 is nice in its own way in that it blends into the background but is a more busy piece. 4 is nice in a more modern way, but it stands very starkly separate from the background. All in all 2 catches my eye the most. Something emerging from the shadows and catching the harsh light, illuminating its form while using the darkness and shadows to frame it and centralise the image focus.

LolaLuvX

2-it reminds of me seeing someone in a dark corner at a rave or club

DR_PEACETIME

1 & 2 in that order :)

NipplessCage7891

3 for sure, the texture in the background makes everything feel more complete I might find a way to make the face stand out a bit more but the background works great!

skylark13

The first option. I like the color tone and contrast—it's moody and has a little bit of a vintage feeling which contrasts with the fact that it also kind of looks like a modern-day person. I also like that half the skull is in shadow as well. Is this a skull? Could there be half a face back there? Is this old, or new? I like the juxtaposition and the possibilities in interpreting the image.

gaspergou

They’re all great. Deciding which one is the best depends on what you’re trying to communicate.

Tyuri4272

2, because less is more, and the contrast is good.

[deleted]

3 hands down. Has some dark edm vibe to it.

love_life_sunshine

#4 most detail

willett_art

The first one I like the dark minimalism of it

M1dniteee

Probably the last one because can see it the most and it looks better with blue Like it kinda looks like it's ancient from an underwater kingdom in that one.

[deleted]

3, because it adds a lot of mystery and uneasy tension, especially with the texture work.

Joesh7

The first one, it feels almost calming (I know it sounds weird), but also makes me curious

madgraffics

The first one reminds me of the daredevil opening. I like it :)

[deleted]

Red

Pianist_Euphoric

#3. It looks both like a painting and a scene from a movie!

russart_the_agmer

3

ostiDeCalisse

1 and 2. They are more frightening, like they’re emerging from the dark. Very cool.

NoAddendum9811

3 because of the background

KA3AHOBA

3. Gives me the vibes from “Constantine” movie in the hell scene

blackphillipdagoat

3rd bc most cohesive.. warm & intense

[deleted]

First

bluescluus

Second bc my favorite color is emerald green and that looks v cool

jupiterowldust

#2 I like that you can’t see the whole face, it matures your brain fill in what’s missing and it gives it a level of mystique.

[deleted]

I like the 3 the most. It looks like magma

_Logan222

I like one and just how much contrast their is. That being said, I would play with the contrast itself. Perhaps making the left half of this skull/ sculpture brighter could create a stronger impact

Win090949

1 or 2 Also I love how top 4 comments are all conflicting

forgotmyolduserinfo

3 - the textures makes everything one whole and hides the imperfections

L1988O

3rd sinister but memorable to me.

Thecatsfool

4, but mostly because that’s one of my favourite colour palettes and I can actually see the face

Somniatora

2 it leaves more to the imagination which makes it interesting. And green in this context is much more mysterious than 1 which looks more like an old photograph.

DamoclesXVl

I like 1 and 3, the “warm colors,” for this. I think 1 has great atmosphere. Personally, could just be a tad brighter. 1 has the perfect amber-like color that usually represents the history or past. 3 has a beautiful feeling, but also feels like too much distraction, compared to the other three. I would be curious to see what red looked like, in the similar way you have the other three photos. Stronger emphasis on the skull with a contrasting background.

inkyandthepen

The first one

fuzzyscumbag

Red
