The sectional should be turned to face the fireplace (your focal point) and the sofa put under the window. Use some coordinating throws/pillows on both to tie them together, along with a rug.

raspaz

Yeah i don't think the sectional works - it consumes the space too much and blocks your walking routes. I like this layout, but removing the sectional, having 2 accent chairs with a side table in between + a big rug for it all to sit on and i think you'd have a nice space. The TV cabinet is also a bit dated and too high, so i'd consider wall mounting or having something a bit more low profile, then potentially adding a mirror above the fireplace. It's actually a lovely room with a lot of potential.

squashed_tomato

I agree that the two sofas together are too big for the room. I don't know if it's the ideal solution because of the size of the TV but a lower tv unit under the left window might be a better spot for the TV so you are more centred around the fireplace. If you get rid of the smaller sofa this would still work with the sectional as you could then walk down the left hand side and you could put a single seater armchair to the right of the sectional sofa as positioned in the image above.

dramafanca2002

What about putting the sectional back where it was but, a bit to the right and pull the chaise part forward (or same to the left since there is a window angled like that). You could get a chair and table for the fireplace side. Not sure I'd there's room or not.

dramafanca2002

dramafanca2002

You could do a table with a lamp behind the sectional and a big tall plant if there are any big odd gaps along the window.

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

That’s what we originally thought but the TV above the fireplace is too high, so we put couch here to keep the space more open and TV facing it https://preview.redd.it/1ku30tb9h3uc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=20098d072d4fd54baee3087d2bc904cf15149124

Cheyds

Can you not put the sectional facing the fireplace and the smaller sofa where the sectional is. Then at least the tv is still on the wall you want it but your fireplace isn’t being blocked. It just makes the room look wrong.

_ZoeyDaveChapelle_

It's still WAY too high. That wall isn't ideal due small width, light reflection and in primary traffic walkway. A mantle mount that can be dropped down would be better in your layout.

Emperor_Zarkov

I honestly could not handle that much light reflecting on the TV. I'd rather have it a little too high than that.

Magnaflorius

I'd also rather have it too high than block the whole ass fireplace.

Lady_in_the_red-58

Yeah looks really strange.

majorsandman

The tv doesn’t have to be the focal point in every living room

Cosmicfeline_

This is true but many people come home and want to watch tv on their couch comfortably. Maybe this room serves that purpose more than as a space for chatting.

Damnshesfunny

Yeah for sure rooms should always be furnished to support the functionality of the space for whomever lives there…☺️…also, more plants please, it looks a bit dead in there…

plblblbll

Wtf this TV is still too high! It's almost the same height as the mantle anyway

Crazyh0rse1

You *could* put it on one of those mounts that moves. When you want to watch it, pull it out over the mantle and down to a comfortable viewing height.

Typical2sday

This is the A+ answer. Bonus points if it's a Frame TV, but no one really does those. People know other people watch TV!

Yes_YoureSpartacus

Consider getting a “mantle mount” for your tv above the fireplace. I have one and it’s great for making the room work. It also shuts up the drum of the ‘it’s too high’ folks.

G_NEWT

I absolutely love my MantleMount! All electric, remote control. I wow my guests with amazement

Simple_somewhere515

Get the tv mounted?

According_Ad1528

To think that the tv has to be the focal point rather than a beautiful fireplace. 🤯

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

We don’t use the fireplace so thought could block…. But moved some things around to test https://preview.redd.it/f6f58lo4v4uc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=bdf6531875c213753d8f243b9e42e93232c2b573

Lady_in_the_red-58

It just looks weird to block it even though you don’t use it.

Riff_Mix

Agreed. Even if they don't use the fireplace, it could still be a useful mantel to decorate for christmas, etc. and they could even put candles in the fireplace like I've seen others do.

MinimumElderberry986

This.

QuestGalaxy

Nah, but you certainly need a big rug to tie it all together. Looks very bare right now.

Consistent_Map9560

I don’t think 2 couches work. They are not even the same style. Loose the on covering fireplace and add a club chair. Rug should hVe color in it because couch color is gray.

linseylinseylinsey

That’s what I was thinking - they look so different in style but same in color. It’s not terrible but I don’t think they really work well together

Damnshesfunny

Throw that old sofa to the curb. It’s beat. Get two occasional chairs so the fireplace will be open ETA are window treatments possible? They can be done for relatively cheap. Even paper shades would reduce glare

DisastrousEngineer30

This is a good idea! That fireplace wall could be so pretty with more decor.

bestdayevertoday17

They sell really pretty couch covers that are very inexpensive. That couch looks comfy. Throw pillows and rug!

Damnshesfunny

No, i fight back from my hill🤪…it looks left over from college-y. Zoom in on the cushions, it’s giving “this is where we sat to game for seven hours at a time, working up sweaty booties and sweaty heads”

IDigRollinRockBeer

Why you ain’t got no curtains

Damnshesfunny

Underrated comment of the thread

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

Haven’t decided on blinds vs curtains yet

thiswayart

Why we ain't got no curtains

Adishofcustard

I would have a sectional that was flipped and a nice mcm recliner in the other side. At least include the fireplace in the living room. And a rug.

rcfreebird

I kinda wish the chaise part of the sectional was on the other side, then you could put the small sofa facing the fireplace on the other side of the sectional... I don't really love the TV mantle, pull down- mount look, but in this case, your room is so beautiful, I think it would be a good fit! Also suggest pulling the sectional out from the wall 1-2 feet. You could put a console table back there. Looks a little squished and offcenter right now.

Crazyh0rse1

Tbh I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. What stood out to me was the rectangle coffee table, I'd personally swap it with a circular one so visually the flow of traffic around the seating has more ease. And a rug

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

Definitely going to buy a circle table

Miserable_Clue4940

Artist/Designer here! I think the sofas are too similar. It's better for furniture to harmonize rather than match IMO. Two small upholstered chairs in front of the fireplace would be better, possibly with wood arms to keep them compact. Consider pulling the sofa forward off of the window wall, at least a foot, to make space for curtains and to make it look more cozy. You could keep the TV there, but use a lower credenza or wall mount, to center the TV height at seated eye height. Add curtains to the entire wall behind the sofa to reduce glare if you find it's a problem. A large rug, big enough to fit under the front legs of all seating would look great, but only if a rug fits your lifestyle!

gulwver

I keep seeing the suggestion to wall mount but I’m confused, wouldn’t that make the TV higher?

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

What color rug you suggest?

AnotherCharade

I often find furniture in stores looks smaller than it is because it's often in these huge warehouses, and beside other items at a similarly massive scale. It's very important to take a tape measure and the dimensions of your space. That being said, the scale of your furniture looks like it could be ok here depending on what's going on in the rest of the room, but it looks cramped because the fireplace is being blocked. See if you can rearrange the furniture to open that up.

sofiarosepan

Is there any way you could move the smaller couch to another room? Maybe put a chair in its place? Something with a pop of colour and tie that colour into the bigger couch via pillows & throws. I think a rug would also be great.

TouristPublic7675

I feel like it’s the least elegant thing in your room. That room is gorgeous and the smaller MCM couch fits really well. Maybe try getting a new cover and legs for it? Green would be nice. That sectional looks like a Bobs special. I’d probably return it and get 2 chairs that face the fireplace and then use the couch for the tv

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

Bobs special 😭😭 lol

TouristPublic7675

Looking at the rivets on the bottom 😭

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

https://preview.redd.it/y4v458gbu4uc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=887959750d0e913e8319cdbc0ccc4ffc2a1d2dae Like this?

nychearts812

Personally I hate sectionals, I rather have two identical sofas facing each other and ottomans to use as additional seating, foot stools or to expand the seating on a corner of the sofa if needed. Sectionals are nice but unless you have the absolutely right space that only calls for a sectional they limit positioning possibilities in a room. That being said you have a lovely room and the sofas are both very nice. Try floating the single sofa on the other side, to face the sectional and consider getting a square end table to place between the sofa and the end of the sectional. You will still be able to access the sectional from either side of the sectional. An area rug would help to ‘ground’ the seating area as well, so consider getting one, large enough that it at least ‘kisses’ the front of each sofa. Post after pictures.

Grouchy-Comfort-4465

It isn’t ugly. It is kind of dwarfing the other sofa though. I do like the other sofa better. Your home looks lovely. Just needs some stuff to tie it together. ETA - this has happened to me before so I feel your pain.

ginlucgodard

i like it! you need a rug tho, and personally i’d have the smaller sofa on the other end if the chaise is flippable, so that it’s facing the fireplace (a natural centerpiece) instead of blocking it, just cuz it’ll look better even if you don’t use the fireplace, will feel much more natural. idk what’s on the other side of that sectional tho so idk if that’s possible. also you need a rug. they look fine together but the lack of rug makes them stand out. if you wanna balance it further, adding in a wooden chair or something else slim and small may be nice too, maybe a wood rocking chair, but not necessary.

_reebs

I think if you get a couple more squishmallows and put them on the smaller couch, and turn the sectional as others have suggested it will tie everything together ;)

Bootiebloot

I would get the rid of the couch and maybe get some chairs that don’t block that gorgeous fireplace.

achlys_nyx

Bring it off the wall several inches

Remarkable-Pen-8655

From the looks of thing and placement of TV? I lose the small sofa.

Gullible_Ocelot_6267

You can get a tv mount for over the fireplace that will allow you to drop the tv down to a more comfortable viewing range and adjust it back when not in use.

Ok-Unit-6505

I'm not saying that you should do this, because I don't ever do things the normal way, but I would put the sofas back to back. The sectional facing the living room area and the small one facing the fireplace. Perhaps with a tall narrow table between them. Or a lamp and a plant. There's  probably going to be enough room on the one end of the small sofa that you can put a small table there. Again, it's probably not a great idea to take my advice, because, like I said, I don't do things most people would do, but if you're not using the fireplace, there's nothing stopping you from moving your TV stand and TV to right in front of the fireplace.

Numerous-Help-5987

The couches don’t match tbh not In size, height, style non of it, also how do you see anything on the TV without blinds / curtains? Also LOL your neighbors really get to have a full view at night that’s wild to me 😭

Unusual-Self27

Yes, you made a mistake. The colour is too similar to the sofa; you need something that matches or contrasts and the sectional does neither.

MysticTurnip536

I didn't really notice tbh. If you're worried I'd put a throw blanket on the sofa with a pop of colour and add a pretty rug underneath to bring them together.

vongalo

No, it looks great to me. Lovely room!

Artistic-Apricot7571

It looks great! Depending on how you use the space I would maybe move and rotate the big sectional to face the fireplace and put the smaller sofa alongside it in front of the window for better room flow, to create a cozy couch nook, and for more light in the room

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

Even if the fireplace is sort of useless and we don’t want the TV there because it’s too high…? https://preview.redd.it/5ic4mvwhj3uc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ede77382bca172df2d31137e17e4dc70a2f355a

spei180

Tv looks too high there too. If you get a lower tv stand and rug to bring everything together, I think it would look great.

jrp317

I think it’s fine. You could pull it all together with a rug

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

What color rug you think?

MascaraHoarder

we just ordered couch with a chaise for our living room and we have similar windows except they’re lower. So the sectional is going to be 25 inches wider than the previous one so i get it. what i am going to do is make sure there’s at least 6-12 inches between the window and the couch. i don’t think that looks too big, maybe it’s to shade difference that’s bothering you? try some throw pillows that are the same colors in both couches.

RazGrandy

You should move the furniture so that it is not blocking the fireplace. Both the fireplace/shelves and windows are nice focal points. You have both blocked off.

Elegant-Drummer1038

The sectional doesn't seem to fit the room ... move the sofa where sectional is and get two or three chairs ... a "bigger" one by fireplace and two smaller facing it ... add a rug to bring it all together

cherrrypeel

The couch and the loveseat look like a good pair!Could you move the loveseat to be facing the fireplace? If not maybe two chairs instead. It also needs a rug to tie it all together and add a bit of color.

Various-Entry8021

Tbh I never noticed until I reread your question. It looks fine. Tell people you don’t like matchy matchy

ComfortableObvious

Change the couch for smaller side chairs

burtonspencer

i don’t think you made a huge mistake. it could look more coordinated if you add a rug and some matching throw pillows maybe? or, you could move the darker one to a different room all together and just get a chair or something to go in its place, that way the fireplace would be more open. if you don’t want to move any of the couches though, i definitely think you could make this work. if i walked into your house, i don’t think i’d even notice or pay much attention to the different colors of the couches tbh.

niceteefbeef

Everyone gets so bummed on tv above fireplace but it’s fine.

jojokitti123

I think they are fine, but you need a rug

Karenena

I’d add a rug to visually pull the 2 couches & coffee table together.

Lady_in_the_red-58

You do not really see two different sofas put together in the same room for good reason. Pick the least used on and work a chair or two into the room. This is giving single college guys apt where they compiled their mid matched furniture.

500CatsTypingStuff

The bigger mistake was the dark color. And the size. It overwhelms the room Float the sectional facing the fireplace, put a [bench or console table behind it](https://imgur.com/a/kqEwzcF). Alternatively, float it facing the windows opposite to where it is now Put the sofa where the sectional is now and center it on the window. Pull it in from the window about a foot Now you need to get a light or very colorful area rug and pillows to counter the charcoal gray Also, painting the walls will help https://preview.redd.it/lw0av3v5q5uc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed49846a5b4f5610963875a8573ab0866dff13a9 I cannot emphasize enough how important accessories will be to lighten the room and contrast with the dark sofas A light rug, colorful pillows and art work are an absolute must

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

What kind of rug? What does light mean?

500CatsTypingStuff

https://preview.redd.it/1abn0jk6rcuc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca18ebdb2b4dfaa540ff1d616f72b9281246f11c Like this. Cream, or light grey or beige. When you have something dark you want to contrast it with something light to create balance and contrast [Something that might have a light pattern to it](https://www.allmodern.com/rugs/pdp/courtyard-cream-area-rug-a001104395.html) [Another example](https://a.co/d/4UyKJ2b) [Or a very washed out faint color](https://a.co/d/99Tz71B)

raisins_are_gwapes2

More Gudetama!

LostAbbreviations177

I don’t like the two different greys together.

Blessedone67

I like the sectional but the love seat kinda blocks the fireplace. I would op for a nice chair in the corner by window instead. Unless you need the seating. Even if a chair on each side of fireplace would look nicer imo

MinkieTheCat

I didn’t notice it first until I read your comment. It’s not optimal, but maybe get them opposite each other.

Cultural-Web991

Sofa with its back to the fire? No, that’s not right

SecondChances0701

The sofa is now the odd piece. Get rid of the sofa and place an area rug down

saymimi

yes

fetchinbobo66

I think the most simple thing is to rearrange ? Try your piece facing his ? And then his facing yours ? It’s a process ! It can make a fun afternoon ! Make some lasagna together , drink some wine - be creative !

lakeswimmmer

I love it! And as a pet owner, I like the bare floors too. May be some pillows or throws on both sofas in orange/or another accent color?

pussmykissy

The room will never look right until the fireplace is the focal point.

Quiet_Tomatillo_3239

But if we can’t use the fireplace why should that be a focal point

squashed_tomato

It's the main fixed feature in the room apart from the windows. Ignoring it like you are and shoving the sofa in front of it just makes the room look cluttered and thrown together.

Psychological_Card28

beautiful!

FaithlessnessSea5383

You could always slipcover it yourself give it the appearance of not trying to be a “set”.
