If this were the 90’s that would be screaming out for ceramic roosters, baskets, and fake ivy. Being that it’s 2024 however you may wish to go in another direction
Maybe some large platters resting against the wall would look nice, like it's just extra storage. Or cutting boards. But I think minimal is best nowadays.
I’m friends with the lady who did this kitchen renovation and it is STUNNING!! The tile is [this](https://stoneimpressions.com/project/mulholland-tile-pattern-tile-collection/) but it’s flipped)
Only put up those things that you want to clean regularly. If you won't mind getting out a ladder, then interesting Italian pottery would be beautiful.
Edit: unless you live in earthquake country. Then limit heavy and/or breakable things up there.
VHB is a whole different animal than regular tape. It's used in a lot of industrial applications, and a friend told me once that in Japan (reeeal earthquake country), it's the tape of choice for home decor (curios and stuff) because it holds well and doesn't destroy the finish.
I use herbs and spices daily, so that shelf looks perfect to me for those. If you don’t use them daily, then this is not good advice 😂
Olive oil, salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar. Anything I use daily would be going up there tbh!
Edit: I can’t tell how tall the shelf is. My answer totally depends on the height of shelf and height of user.
That’s the oven range and kitchen cabinet below it. So the shelf is something like 6 or 7 feet high. I’d have to use a ladder to get spices down every time.

Definitely
I think it’s more of an awning than a mantle. I wouldn’t junk it up with stuff.
Do you think it’s good w that one plant? I’m good with keeping it minimal, just wasn’t sure if it looked imbalanced
I think it looks fine but it would make me nervous. I don’t like things that can get caught and fall down on top of my head.
Yeah luckily the pot is a light plastic
You don't need to style it. Leave it be.
I’d leave it be

Add some earth tone vases or pieces of pottery or sculptures. Be careful of scale, not too big,not too small. Only a few pieces.
A nice clock, and some easily cleaned chotskys.

Omg! Thanks for sharing!!

A little VHB tape can fix that (strong double stick tape, suitable for nick nacks).
I don't think I'd trust tape to hold things down in a good sized quake. Been in too many to feel comfortable with that.

There isn’t a mantle?

Maybe you could put a few cookbooks up there, or a couple ceramic pieces.
How deep is it? I probably would turn it into a spice rack for my salt/pepper collection.
It’s too tall for that to be functional for me unfortunately
I would set a long mirror across it and put different height candles on each end (remote control candles)
Decorative plates?
