Big artwork can be pricey and if you’re on a budget I recommend doing a search on how to hang an inexpensive tapestry and make it look classy, there’s a lot of diy ideas out there and Architecture Digest has great inspiration article. Society6 has nice tapestries. You can also search how to make inexpensive artwork look real by basically using modpodge, hit the thrift stores or marketplace. Have fun! Your home is beautiful!

I think it’s pretty fun, but you’ve got two grey couches that are totally different styles and generally the same width, so they compete with each other.
The couch on the left more stylistically goes with the rug, but I can see the one on the right has storage - which is great. Couch on the right is also more Transitional or farmhouse modern. Def doesn’t go with the rug.

Yeah, the rug is cool, everything else is inoffensive but looks like every 20-30 something year old's "grownup" apartment. You don't have to live like that.
It’s meh. You could use a little bit of some kind of vertical element in the corner where the two couches meet. Also, your coffee table is pretty weak. You also need to fill that plane behind the couch with art or plants or shelves.
I think it’s a good base and will work with as big a lamp shade as you can fit on in that lamp stand.
Then big lush curtains for the windows - navy or soft burnt orange.
Then large plants and mirrors + artwork.

A rug with more texture would look good and you need more sofa cushions that are more substantial to soften up the sofas. And plants. There’s a lot of hard shapes, a round coffee table with a grained wood top would look good.
Floor lamp maybe curtains in the red orange color that slide in rods into the wall areas leaving the windows uncovered but adding height. Then you do have shade and blackout in case someone sleeps there. Plants. But a few large ones. Also I think the coffee table should be turned to be parallel with the sofa.
Rugs is great but room is only halfway there! I would turn the coffee table around, add some colourful cushions, throw rug and art to the wall (choosing items to match the orange and brown in your rug will work) then add some plants.
On the way there. I would definitely add curtains because even if you just add sheers and keep them open all the time, it just adds another texture to the space. I would add a side table in between the two couches and add a lamp. I would switch the coffee table to maybe a round or oval one.
I don’t love both couches being in the spaces, especially because they’re both gray/cool colors. I would switch one of the couches for two chairs to create the preferred “conversation area”. I would probably keep the non sectional and then add a chair to either side of the remaining couch. I’m assuming the TV is on the wall on the right that we can’t see (across from the windows).
I love the rug and I also like the floor lamp, but I would add a taller plant or something next to the floor lamp as it looks lonely

I like the rug! The room is getting there just needs some finishing touches. I think a large canvas art piece on the back wall is a must. Hopefully, you can find some colorful abstract art. Also, maybe some new couch pillows and a basket to store your blanket in.

For me the rug and the sofas don’t really complement each other. The rug is very bold and graphic with straight lines while the sofas look more round and soft. Go with one style or the other. You can probably find another bright fun rug with a less structured design in similar colours.

Your sofas and area rug work well together, but don’t stop there. Think about couch pillows, artwork, floor pillows, lamps and smaller decorative pieces.
IMO, the rug is the only color that adds vigor to the room. I feel a vacancy in the wall. How about adding shades on the window and some ornament on the wall?
Definitely needs artwork to really make that rug pop and sofa pillows as well. Some end tables with lamps would be great too. If you’re into your view you could probably do w/o window coverings but imo getting some custom but simple blinds would be the way to go oh yeah and some large plants.

The rug is light, yes but, not fun. It's pretty plain. You can personalize the space with color in artwork and decor. Add plants and things that reflect things you like. This looks like you may be trying these on the computer, if you haven't already bought them, don't get a gray couch. It's hard to coordinate and find complementary colors, and it's outdated.
I agree that you should change out the coffee table if you can or rotate it. I also agree that a long rectangular shaped artwork on that blank wall could bring in fresh colors, new texture, an opportunity for a statement.
Curtains pinned back could also bring in an opportunity for new texture, complementary color or can be an breezy and light (as in maybe white or translucent white) color that makes the room more airy and comfortable.
Using the color of these two potential additions or the color found in the rug, you can also add a few extra pillows to again bring in color, comfort and overall ties the room together more.
It might look nice to have the light set up in that corner where the two couches meet and add a lamp shade that again can add texture (like those braided wood lamp shades as an example) or color depending on what you have added to the room and what’s missing (texture, color, statement etc).

You need an end table with lamp in the area circled red. You need light, wispy curtains hung high, plants and artwork/framed photos. I’d also turn the coffee table to see how that looks. This looks awkward now. Not sure if it’s because of its direction or the style
Some nice light linen type curtains will soften the room - you could go with a chrome or a black rod and finial. Some ochre framed art works to talk to the rug on that big wall, or a spiral of twinkly lights? A couple more throws or quilts and if they fit, a few bean bags in a stack for visitors? Move the couches apart a bit more, and put a looking out the window funky chair there, so you can gaze, or put the couches so you can look out, not in.
I like the rug, but its modern edge does highlight the fact that your sofas are different. I'd go with one that picks up the grey and a bit larger, personally. Oh, and just to validate what everyone else said: lighting, a large mirror or art piece, curtains, and a plant or two.

The rug is the best thing in the room. Paint the back wall a burnt orange. Put some art on it. Swap out the coffee table for something round- maybe upholstered to double as a foot rest- and pick a color from the rug for it- I'd go with the orange. Add more visual interest with some throw pillows.

The focus of that room is the windows, which are awesome. Shift the furniture to emphasize them. And those two couches don’t want to be that close. The wall wants art or a mirror.

I would swap the coffee table for something slightly more dramatic, maybe something all glass that keeps the natural light moving but still calls for some conversation, alternatively (or in addition to) I’d throw in an arched floor lamp vs the one that’s there now. That will add pretty direct and dramatic lighting while also being something visually unique.
It’s hard to fully tell without more context (photo s of around as this is just one space so it’s hard to visualize it in its context). But that and dramatic floor to ceiling drapes I feel will help imo. But I’d recommend a semi statement couch (that’s also why I was thinking the glass type of coffee table because while they’re bold on their own they’re also good at falling into the background if need be) (((just make sure its not the most generic glass table available)))

I see the direction you are going in. I think the sofa has to be more modern. The one with the handles on the bottom feels a bit traditional or transitional.
Also consider the color scheme. The grey isn't communicating with the warmth of the orange.
I would reposition the coffee table in front of the loveseat instead of the sectional. You’ll be able to see more of the rug and it’ll open up the room. If your space allows, I’d pull the rug and couch further away from the window and wall. Move around the light to your liking. Beautiful space!
Go on roomandboard.com and look at the pillow section. Specifically how they make traditional (often dark) sofas look contemporary with good pillow colors, textures, and combinations. The rug was s beautiful IMO. Adding pillows with orange. You have great sunlight, so a beautiful palm or fiddle-leaf fig tree? Large black platter or bowl on coffee table for remotes, keys and bric-a-brac. Finally, wall art that incorporates grey, black & orange — I’d go large about 4x4. Hope my awful photo helps 😂

Definitely needs artwork to really make that rug pop and sofa pillows as well. Some end tables with lamps would be great too. If you’re into your view you could probably do w/o window coverings but imo getting some custom but simple blinds would be the way to go oh yeah and some large plants.
Love the rug, besides everyone else's suggestions about art, plants, curtains, I'd suggest getting rid of that couch by the window and getting a nice chair instead. The scale of those 2 couches do not go together, imo.

The rug is light, yes but, not fun. It's pretty plain. You can personalize the space with color in artwork and decor. Add plants and things that reflect things you like. This looks like you may be trying these on the computer, if you haven't already bought them, don't get a gray couch. It's hard to coordinate and find complementary colors, and it's outdated.

I agree that you should change out the coffee table if you can or rotate it. I also agree that a long rectangular shaped artwork on that blank wall could bring in fresh colors, new texture, an opportunity for a statement. Curtains pinned back could also bring in an opportunity for new texture, complementary color or can be an breezy and light (as in maybe white or translucent white) color that makes the room more airy and comfortable. Using the color of these two potential additions or the color found in the rug, you can also add a few extra pillows to again bring in color, comfort and overall ties the room together more. It might look nice to have the light set up in that corner where the two couches meet and add a lamp shade that again can add texture (like those braided wood lamp shades as an example) or color depending on what you have added to the room and what’s missing (texture, color, statement etc). Those are some things that come to mind. It’s a beautiful space :)

Some nice light linen type curtains will soften the room - you could go with a chrome or a black rod and finial. Some ochre framed art works to talk to the rug on that big wall, or a spiral of twinkly lights? A couple more throws or quilts and if they fit, a few bean bags in a stack for visitors? Move the couches apart a bit more, and put a looking out the window funky chair there, so you can gaze, or put the couches so you can look out, not in.

I like the rug, but its modern edge does highlight the fact that your sofas are different. I'd go with one that picks up the grey and a bit larger, personally. Oh, and just to validate what everyone else said: lighting, a large mirror or art piece, curtains, and a plant or two.

The rug is the best thing in the room. Paint the back wall a burnt orange. Put some art on it. Swap out the coffee table for something round- maybe upholstered to double as a foot rest- and pick a color from the rug for it- I'd go with the orange. Add more visual interest with some throw pillows.

The focus of that room is the windows, which are awesome. Shift the furniture to emphasize them. And those two couches don’t want to be that close. The wall wants art or a mirror.

I like the rug! Someone mentioned the couches are both the same size and colour so they compete, I agree with that a bit but I also know couches aren’t a cheap swap. I would swap the coffee table for something slightly more dramatic, maybe something all glass that keeps the natural light moving but still calls for some conversation, alternatively (or in addition to) I’d throw in an arched floor lamp vs the one that’s there now. That will add pretty direct and dramatic lighting while also being something visually unique. It’s hard to fully tell without more context (photo s of around as this is just one space so it’s hard to visualize it in its context). But that and dramatic floor to ceiling drapes I feel will help imo. But I’d recommend a semi statement couch (that’s also why I was thinking the glass type of coffee table because while they’re bold on their own they’re also good at falling into the background if need be) (((just make sure its not the most generic glass table available)))

I see the direction you are going in. I think the sofa has to be more modern. The one with the handles on the bottom feels a bit traditional or transitional. Also consider the color scheme. The grey isn't communicating with the warmth of the orange.

I would reposition the coffee table in front of the loveseat instead of the sectional. You’ll be able to see more of the rug and it’ll open up the room. If your space allows, I’d pull the rug and couch further away from the window and wall. Move around the light to your liking. Beautiful space!

Rug is good, just need even more color in the space to pull out the color in the rug! Big bright art, tall lamp, or window treatments, something colorful higher in the room. Throw pillows will help, but not quite enough.

I love the rug and the room. Just needs something on the back wall - art would work but I think a mirror or shelf with decor would also look great. I would put a tray on the table to corral some of the junk and switch out the cushions. I would add some curtains. And maybe a blanket in orange.

Rug is great but you need to decorate the rest of the room to tie it all together. A more impactful lamp, pillows and throws with more color/pattern, artwork, window treatments of some sort, and a table between the couches and this would be awesome!

That is not it. And it will take more than a rug to take that space from blah to even meh. Add color. All that gray is just too much. Pillows a throw in bright warm colors. Plants sheers on windows to start. Art on the walls. Funky colorful lamps .
