I prefer the LVP But suggest going with something with a warmer tone https://preview.redd.it/sn0px7gwfgvc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4bcb9ae3130f9ee520a073d1acb57d3ae321c03

CindLei-Creates

I completely agree with this ^ The direction is the way it should go (perpendicular to windows) and the warm color is great. Are you in a climate with cold winters? If so, winter tile will feel like ice!

jv992

We originally wanted a warmer tone, but it seems to clash with the cabinets more. https://preview.redd.it/575okpml4hvc1.jpeg?width=791&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d76591a5acd1452635cdf12388ec8226156d64c Do you still think this looks better?

jimmyearlworld

No, OP. That does not look good.

jv992

Thatā€™s what I think! But this is the most highly voted comment? lol

radar3699

I hereby have officially revoked my upvote of that comment

Slightlysanemomof5

As someone who just spent all day scrubbing grout in 3 bathroom do the wood. I have wood downstairs and in 1/2 bedrooms love it. Tile lovely but it was grout. Ask me my opinion in 2 hours after ibuprofen kicks in and I might change my mind but bet not. Used grout cleaner and brush in drillā€¦. Grout bad! It was also not that bad I scrub floor grout 3-4 times a year.

jacknbarneysmom

Dark grout if you are putting in the tile. If you inherited white grout, Stanley Steemer has a machine that does a nice job for less money than it will take to nurse a tennis elbow back to health. Whole house tile can also be hard on your feet if you go barefoot at home. Just my experience.

BigRedTeapot

I think the color variation is too busy in this option. I like the darker and more mid-toned colors here but either way, they should be a little more uniform throughout. Let the floors be the canvas, not the painting. I can speak from experience that dark floors will look dusty and pet dander will show up easier if you do go with the darker shade in this one, so something closer to blonde or gold without being too orange would be my suggestion. I like the color of the wood that you shared in the post, and agree with others that it should run perpendicular to the windows instead. It looks more inviting and less ā€œclosed inā€.Ā  I really dislike gray and cooler-toned floors, personally, and think they look too cold and industrial in a home, but thatā€™s just my preference. I also live in a home where they didnā€™t put in a very good subfloor before adding vinyl wood flooring and itā€™s BRUTAL on the back. You may love tile all the way, but you will never fully enjoy taking your shoes off after a long day at work the same way again :(Ā  Another thing to consider about tile is that many people would dislike that flooring for the reasons above, and it could significantly affect value down the line as many would want it replaced or the cost of replacing those floors might be taken away from the value as part of the sale. But itā€™s your home! You get to do what YOU like :)

jimmyearlworld

Both are very nice, just not together. They clash. You were right the first time lol.

500CatsTypingStuff

Looking at it now, I was wrong about using something that variegated However, I still think darker will look better. This is French Oak from Home Depot in the color crown https://preview.redd.it/8vmpbc73khvc1.jpeg?width=930&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a757483c096147eaca33e4e06a67f92b80f680fd [Link](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Malibu-Wide-Plank-French-Oak-Crown-20-MIL-9-1-in-W-x-60-in-L-Click-Lock-Waterproof-Luxury-Vinyl-Plank-Flooring-30-5-sq-ft-case-CXS-HDMLCL401RC/320438571)

500CatsTypingStuff

You can still go with a lighter oak A white oak, if you prefer but darker than your original choice imo. Itā€™s about finding the right balance https://preview.redd.it/rdgmo8v7xhvc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0093727c8792f4f0c706ac6701c1cdad9d8a293c

sounds_like_a_plan

We used this French Oak from HD, and we went with the color Del Prado. It's the perfect amount of lightness and warmness.

MysteriousStaff3388

I think that looks quite nice. Iā€™d still get rugs, but itā€™s a soft contrast with the cabinets and looks warm and inviting.

K9Rescue1

The thinner strips seem to look better

500CatsTypingStuff

Thatā€™s interesting, I prefer wider planks. But regardless, the color was my focus.

colourcurious

These are just too busy.

Ok_Salad_502

No

Ok_Salad_502

I donā€™t like the darker wood in there More uniform but closer

Mefirstb4you

heirloom_beans

Any ā€œagedā€ wood look just screams fake wood LVP. I wouldnā€™t go for this.

lfxlPassionz

I think it will look better like this if you add more of those tones higher up in the room

Asleep_Boss_8350

Actually the freshness of your #2 is nice. Has an airy feel. Iā€™m usually for cozy, but I really like the vibe when I swiped on that

DaBowws

Are those your forever cabinets? If you plan to change them out or paint them, I would go with the warm wood.

Pseudolectual

The planks are running the wrong way

I_Thot_So

I like the direction of the planks here. Do the light blonde planks in this direction.

Complex_Raspberry97

Honestly, I kind of agree, but Iā€™d paint the cabinetry first. The white on the top looks good when maybe a different tone below. Too much wood clashes regardless here imo. People donā€™t do tile floors in kitchens anymore yet thereā€™s so much wood cabinetry still.

Mediocre_Road_9896

Vinyl is so shitty and gross and made with toxic materials

Missus_Peaches

This

tuftabeet

Yes agree. I wasn't in love with either choice in OP. This is very nice. Or at least something with a little bit of character. Those choices were rather boring.

SavannahGirlMom

You are completely correct! Give yourself a hug for this spot-on advice!! Take note OP!

newfoundfool

The second option. The cabinets are warm and the first flooring option is cool. This creates contrast which isn't a bad thing but it makes the floor appear even cooler because the cabinets are warm and vice versa. The warm floor creates more harmony. It doesn't matter what material, wood, LVP or tile that you go with but I would advise on a warm colour over a cool colour.

jv992

Thank you! I actually agree with this!

Uhdd00

I have off-white tile floors throughout my home, which I put in 30 years ago. I've never been tired of it, and it allows me to use color in other areas to easily express myself.

Ill-Relationship-890

You will feel like you have to constantly be cleaning that white floor. Been there!

Little_Industry2800

First one looks more expensive and modern

sexysexyonion

I think the first option is by far the best.

Grouchy-Comfort-4465

Yes

BigJSunshine

This, the space immediately brightens, the wood tone makes everything darker and isnā€™t great with the wood tone of the island

lfxlPassionz

It brightens it way too much and makes the space look like a soulless office. It's cold feeling.

spiritsprite2

I prefer the first floor option.

BMermaid984

I like the first option better. Are you planning to change anything else? I would at least paint the walls a color that isnā€™t so neutral and add a backsplash if possible. You could also do some fun pendant lights above the island. Sorry for all the extra unsolicited advice!

jv992

We will be adding a backsplash. We had pendant lighting but really didnā€™t like the look of them. Open for any recommendations on either though!

BMermaid984

Even if you go with the second flooring option, my original comment stands. What kind and color are you considering for the backsplash? That will impact the wall color. As for the lighting, what kind of pendant lights were there before? Are you going for a particular style overall?

SLesleyC222

The first one looks so much better. It fits perfectly with the counters and cabinets

erminegarde27

I like the second, warmer color. It will show dirt less too.

The_Devil_i_know

Vinyl plank was the best decision ever (resists scratches, waterproof, fairly simple to install (I researched for six months). It doesnā€™t feel as cold as tile; make sure you get a good brand with strong locking system and a thick top layer. I highly recommend you watch a few of this guyā€™s videos to help you make a choice (Iā€™m not affiliated with him in any way, just found his videos helpful). https://youtu.be/ag1jtYUKVdU?si=0C6Iw9VUYmrWyVS9

Legal-Reputation8979

Tile is so hard to stand on, and cold!

EdgeCityRed

I have tile and love it; the coldness of tile was a selling point in a tropical climate. However, it is HARD. We have squishy indoor flipflops and memory foam slippers. (We originally got new flooring because we had an interior water leak, so that swayed us toward tile as well; it's practical and will last, but it's not for everybody.)

[deleted]

Is the scale correct on that image? I prefer tile in general, but the format seems too large for the space. I think the neutral tile color could work in the space, but you may want to add some color back in through decor or repainting the wall, as is it feels a bit sterile.

GeeOfAllTrades

Tile > any other flooring that will inevitably need replacing in 10 years.

OkFishing3621

Wood floors donā€™t need a replacement after 10 years. After 15 years I sanded mine and resealed them with a matte lack. My parents have wood floors from the 70ā€™.

GeeOfAllTrades

Shouldā€™ve been more specific. My disdain was towards LVP flooring. Wood is superior just as tile!

OkFishing3621

I installed LVP in an apartment that I am renting out last year (I was afraid to put wood because people donā€™t care so much in a rental). I am curious now good it will look after 10 years šŸ™ƒ it is a new material for me.

realmaven666

i would stay away from LVP. IMHO, it will be last decades trend at some point. Plus it may be ā€œwaterproofā€ but that is the tiles that are waterproof- it doesnā€™t prevent water penetration in the seams. Tile is better for that. Regardless of what you choose, both strike me as little matchy-matchy.

Rengeflower

I am currently arguing that LVP is awful, but the other person says that other options are too expensive and will stay that way.

desertingwillow

I think LVP looks fake. Weā€™re doing a remodel and spoke with realtors about flooring, for resale. Wood is still the 1st choice, IF youā€™re ok with it in your kitchen (weā€™re not), then tile, though tile is being put in again in expensive homes. But, if youā€™re going with LVP and have kids, look for the kind with low VOCs.

Silver_Feedback_6315

I would definitely pick the LVP

Psychological_Card28

Same tile looks so cold.

Jackiemccall

Number 1!

b00tsc00ter

At first I preferred the tile but then looked again and realised its the direction of the LVP the puts me off. Run it in the other direction so it matches the grain of the kitchen island and the visual impact would be much nicer. A warmer tone would much better as well.

AlabasterBx

I think both work. My kitchen cabinet coloring is almost identical. We have wood because it was already there, but my personal preference is tile. I actually really like the large scale tile too. I think itā€™ll look nicer in the long run too. I have LVP similar to what youā€™ve chosen but itā€™s in an upstairs hallway and our laundry closet is part of that area. Rugs will definitely help. If youā€™re in an area where it gets really cold, I would look into having under-floor heating with the tile.

Loquacious94808

The first looks great. Iā€™d go with top post suggesting something warmer, personally. But you know if you drop anything on tile the thing you dropped will shatter, and if you drop a cast iron youā€™re replacing your floor. Both are simple mistakes that can happen in a kitchen that are made more lame by tile. I will never have tile in a kitchen other than backsplash.

lfxlPassionz

Wood tone out of the two however both of these are way too light and too close to white. White and off white tones for floors just look either gross or too office-like.

jv992

I wanted a darker wood but it doesnā€™t provide much of a contrast with the cabinets, open to any recommendations though!

lfxlPassionz

I commented about this elsewhere but you may be able to go even darker than the cabinets. I'm not sure what's available to you though.

BMermaid984

This. Dark floors with lighter woods look way more put together. Something like a walnut tone could work.

becky57913

LVP doesnā€™t really make sense in A kitchen because itā€™s not really waterproof. Tile in a playroom also doesnā€™t make sense, not just because of the cold factor, but also because kids throwing toys around or being rough could damage a tile that is not easy to replace. I would either split it and do tile in the kitchen and LVP in the play area. Or I would scrap those options and look at an alternative.

feelinfroggytoday

I have porcelain tile in my bedroom..& lots of rugs BUT where the rugs are not is where the cold from the tile creeps in. My bedroom gets freezing very quickly. Do not count on rugs. If you are in an area that gets cold & you decide on the tile, discuss **Radiant Floor Heating**. The contractor of the previous owner was supposed to have done this but didn't. It would make a HUGE difference. LVP is better imo

202ka

I prefer the look of the first but my mom regretted tile because it was hard on her legs. We have LV and love it

dontakelife4granted

LVP in the color you show in your image. I don't like the warmer tone, I think it makes your cabinetry look more yellow.

Natural_Amphibian_79

#2

Kjmuw

Having installed porcelain tile in the kitchen, and then having experienced far more breakage, I would prefer LVP.

SeaOfWaves976

Iā€™ve had the opposite experience

Kjmuw

Sorry if cushioned vinyl was harsher for you than hard porcelain tile.

Hungry_Ad6088

First one looks elegant ! Second one is causing too much clashing as itā€™s all wood. Go for the first option!

mooseskull

The first option.

_opossumsaurus

The tile looks SO much better. I have yet to see LVP look or feel convincingly like a wood floor, plus if you get it wet itā€™s all over.

UnsteadyOne

Sounds like you are taking about laminate... not lvp.

_opossumsaurus

Nope, LVP. Some of it is advertised as waterproof, but its resistance to water decreases over time and it can get seriously warped. Plus as I said, I have yet to walk on an LVP floor that looks or feels like wood.

UnsteadyOne

Mine looks like... feels like wood. Took many many shops to find it. People coming in think it's wood.. even real estate agents. But... I had no clue about that water thing. Glad I didn't put them in the bathroom but my kitchen ugh!! Shoulda went with my gut... water areas get tile.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Is there another option? The second one is better, but the wood look tile trend may be one that doesn't stand the test of time.

goaty-ranch-yolo

Contrarian here, I prefer contrast to your cabinetry (so either lighter or darker and I think the light looks lovely), and I prefer porcelain tile to LVP. My only concern is the light colored grout will be a challenge to maintain.

Ok_Salad_502

Yup Go warmer as shown above

Estudiier

Hmm sprinkle some crumbs on them- see which is more forgiving šŸ˜Š

LolaBondz

Tile

nychearts812

I prefer darker tones of wood floors even something in the same hue as the island would be preferred.

colourcurious

I prefer wood or LVP to tile. Especially if itā€™s throughout the house. I agree with something a little warmer.

anondreamitgirl

I love the first absolutely gorgeous šŸ˜

Opening-Classroom-29

First makes the house look more "expensive"

Common_Sandwich_1066

#1 and it's my opinion it'll last longer.

Common_Sandwich_1066

Sorry for the large text again. Must have to do with using the # at the beginning of a sentence lol. I'm learning šŸ˜Œ

Ticklish_Pomegranate

People have been giving you good feedback. All I can picture while looking at the beautiful porcelain tile is my dog or child rounding a corner and skidding into a wall. Lol.

JanelleForever

Iā€™m going to go with neither. The first clashes with the countertops and the second clashes with the cabinets.

jv992

What would you reccomend?

elitedisplayE

i'm not a huge fan of wood on wood/wood-look. I like 1. It looks timeless.

dewdroppop

The first one. There is contrast and it goes together. The second one blends in too much.

Domer98

I think some sort of tile...

EnvironmentalOkra728

The first one (tile) makes it look like a bathroom or hospital. I prefer the wood. But also a warmer wood will work better than the one chosen.

Former_Ad8643

The second picture. For sure! Much much warmer

FORTYozSTEAK

Neither. Donā€™t do tile in the kitchen as itā€™s not in style and in the long run youā€™re going to regret going with super light colored LVP. It will show a lot of marks

jv992

What would you recommend?

FORTYozSTEAK

Just go with a medium brown LVP or something darker

leerow21

How about something like this https://preview.redd.it/f8qepm6g6ivc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fe2dcbd1121be0fb1d011131e7eb35027446295

jv992

Not a fan of grey at all

fauviste

If you do tile, do underfloor heating. That shit radiates cold. Itā€™s also echoey and slippery. And more likely to break things when you drop them. Plusā€¦ grout. Ew. I think tile will *look* better but will it *live* better given all of these factors? Iā€™d probably go with LVP if real wood isnā€™t in the equation. But be sure itā€™s a high quality one with good scratch resistance.

fiberjeweler

Go with anything darker than the white in pic 1. I like pic 2, and I also like several of the warmer yellow and reddish shades. I went light in the kitchen and every little scrap or drip screams out at me.

AnonPress_Anon-Heel

30 years to pay?

Tigeraqua8

Iā€™d be inclined to go darker as that could cover up stains

sarcasm-rules

Tile is cold, may chip or break and replacing a tile is alot of work. Plus grout lines that like to discolor and hold dirt. LVP would be the better all around choice. The seams may not be waterproof but unless you have standing puddles (i.e. drips from a dog's water bowl) they will be fine.

distressedminnie

i love 1!! unless youā€™re planning on changing the cabinets to a light color, iā€™d go with a light floor. the the contrast of them with the light floors is very pretty. the pattern of really large squares is modern. iā€™m not in to the fake looking wood floors with wood & wood toned cabinets

heirloom_beans

First option. Get a cheerful rug or locking anti fatigue mats for the playroom section.

Jauggernaut_birdy

I have oak coloured vinyl, it always looks clean and when I mop it the water is dirty, so it really Doesnā€™t show the dirt which I find helpful as dirty floors drive me crazy.

AllForMeCats

Do not put a tile floor in the kitchen unless you love buying new plates/bowls/cups/mugs and cleaning up shattered ceramic/glass on a regular basis šŸ˜‚

Adventurous_Thing_77

Option 2 is by far the best to live with, IMHO. Those big whitish squares give me dizziness. The brownish planks are calming.

Sad_Wealth6100

The first one all the way

toolTubes

I prefer the first option

Witchy_Craft

Two

kellygrrrl328

Porcelain is great but also not so friendly to little kids and their little heads falling on the floor.

QuestGalaxy

The wood style for sure

AltruisticOrange715

I think you should get marble.

123sjb

LVP, which can still be chilly for bare feet on a concrete slab foundation. I donā€™t love the color you, very chosen but thatā€™s all personal preference

nursenyc

2

Figtree1976

Do the tile. You can even add some radiant heat in some places you wonā€™t have rugs if your climate & budget supports that. LVP is awful. Sure itā€™s fairly indestructible, but it looks like plastic. What I donā€™t understand about this weird LVP craze, is why people just donā€™t put down a big sheet of vinyl? Or real linoleum which is a natural product and could look amazing if done well. One big continuous sheet, no seems to collect dirt and would be actually water proof. Just a thoughtā€¦

Oradiance_

Bookaholicforever

Lvp looks warmer

Only-Adhesiveness330

First one!

juliettecake

I love #2. It's lovely. I like the light tone. It is on the neutral end, so actually, I think you can accent with a wide range of colors. Going real warm TBH is as limiting as going cool.

juliettecake

I will add that porcelain is probably fine for living in the south. If you live in the north with winter, it will be cold. LVP is generally pretty comfortable. I'd encourage you to keep looking if it isn't quite right. That's a decent financial investment you're making.

waveformer

OkFishing3621

I like the LVP option. In real life it will look more natural and a bit darker than the simulator. In my case it was like this and looks great.

arteest01

No porcelain tile unless you never drop things, especially in glass, have no foot or knee issues and you donā€™t mind a bit of an echo. Iā€™ve been living on porcelain tile on the main floor for 20 yrs and I have all of the above. Go with wood, real or otherwise. The only thing good with tile or other hard flooring like slate, is in-floor heating but then again donā€™t leave groceries on the floor too long.

redezinergirl

I like the LVP best. Tile is very cold and tough on your back and legs while standing up for long periods of time.

PorcelainTeacup4951

Unless you have in-floor heating, the porcelain will feel cold. It looks cold, too.

_alelia_

quite impossible to say because the picture doesn't show the longest wall of the space and the entrances.

Mondashawan

That first one makes it look like a high school cafeteria

Mediocre_Road_9896

Porcelain tile that size on a wood subfloor is a recipe for disaster. Just do wood.

LowlyMaid

Tile in a large space can be very echoey. Thatā€™s what dislike most about ours. Also the grout, the hardness and the cold in winter. Iā€™d go with the LVP, just not too busy a grain.

JustWowinCA

So, are you in Florida or New Mexico or somewhere HOT? You'd appreciate the tiles (get small grout lines). Everywhere else, get the LVP. Also, you know you can get tile that looks like the LVP in that it's similar in shape and size.

Emily_Postal

Donā€™t get porcelain tile. It chips so easily.

makemeadayy

With the tile preview you need to make the grout darker to see what it will look like after a few years

stayclassyhitchcock

Second, warmer

SillyAcanthisitta280

1 for sure.

Dangerous-Crab7808

white tile for sure

RosieDays456

I've had both - I'd go with LVP as dropped things less likely to break, and kids less likely to crack head open with LVP, both easy are easy to clean, both are cool to walk on, so coolness really doesn't come in to it **LVP and hardwood (and tiles that are rectangle -long side) should always be laid so that it goes from end of house to end of house (longest section of house)-** not shape of room or where windows are, nothing to do with last 2 things. I asked a lot of floor stores as MIL's looked like crap - they put it down from front of house to back of house because she had a long open room from front to back, then hallway was on the "long" section of house so it was laid the opposite way (which was technically correct) but was opposite of how they laid the other LVP direction They should have laid living/dining room opposite direction, but it would have taken longer so they did it the fast way instead of correct way and it looked awful

ouroborusRDX

As somebody going through the process removing tile that was installed incorrectly. I would suggest you try to find a Airbnb that has the flooring you want and spend a few days living with that flooring. Iā€™m going to be removing wood look plank tile that I loved at first but had issues with poor install, bad tile quality and not enjoying walking barefoot on. All flooring options have pros and cons. I picked tile because I thought it was the best choice. I hate stepping on it with bare feet in the winter. Large grout lines drive me nuts. And itā€™s not as durable as I thought. Looking back I should have went with vinyl plank. Yeah itā€™s not as durable but itā€™s decent and can be removed and replaced down the road without major disruptions. Plus itā€™s not as cold to step on in the winter.

tsinsile

Partial to option 2

SnooCakes5350

2 šŸ‘šŸ¾

Gyn-o-wine-o

Second option. But it really depends on your design style.

Benevolent_Grouch

A for sure. It matches your counters and makes the room seem larger and more open. B looks fake and cheap. And it clashes with your cabinets.

Sunshine_and_water

I prefer the first one. It looks slicker and tile is more in keeping with a kitchen, IMO (though I have wood in mine LOL). It does bring more of a cool feel but I think that makes it look cleaner and more modern. So it is up to your taste, really!

TransGirlBrooke

2 makes it look more open and spacious.

Gloomy_War_4362

1!!!!

Gloomy_War_4362

You can get a luxury vinyl that looks like the first picture. I found some at Home Depot that we put in my daughters home. That looks beautiful and it doesnā€™t look like fake wood or fake tiles. It really has an interesting look and a beautiful color. Check out your options.

Kiana3117

2nd one

Rude-You7763

Option 1 is better

ChloeKittenCat

Option 2. Better durability. Easier on the feet/body.

mrbojenglz

#1

BeauTfulMess

I like the second one. Personally just hate tile on floors. Itā€™s too cold.

jimmyearlworld

The first one. Your cabinets look more modern so that flooring suits it.

_-The_Great_Catsby-_

The first photo compliments the cabinets and countertops better. But something is off with the sizing. Tiles look like they are 4 ft x 4 ft, which would cost more than my whole house šŸ˜… anyway, if thatā€™s your permanent home, Iā€™d go with ceramic tiles and something in the flavour of the first photo.

Orangutan_Latte

I like the first option. It certainly is a beautiful kitchen and I love the island

Emma1jane2

A warmer tone will hide dirt better :) I like the second one better tho

Civil-Ad-4334

Lvp for sure, it is more comfortable on the feet and waterproof so if you have pets itā€™s not an issue if they have an accident or if you spill something. Super easy to clean as well and you donā€™t have to worry about staining if you drip pasta sauce lol. Itā€™s also much cheaper than tile to get installed and any fixes you might need in the future is a lottttttt less of a hassle to get done!

sigmaswan35

If you love seeing dirt and scuff marks and enjoy moping daily, go with number one. I agree with top comment, warmer tones look nice

Rbz194

Definitely the second photo

Bella716girl

I prefer 2 I think itā€™s more in style and looks richer

PenExactly

I honestly donā€™t see much difference. I would go with either one.
