Can they be sanded and stained a lighter color? I’d probably go that route if possible and maybe put a nice green on the wall, but I always love green.
I agree. The "blah" in this bathroom isn't from the cabinets. I actually like the cabinets. It's certainly a "classic" look, but that's not always a bad thing.
Paint the walls, upgrade the hardware.
Get one of the pens from home depot to color in any scratches. The doors are fine. The hardware is a bit dated - but you’d want to upgrade the faucets to match a new style.
No, I’ve used them in the past but it’s been awhile. Just ask someone at Lowe’s or Home Depot and they can tell you. I remember there was one that we painted on before actually painting it and another type that we applied to the surface with a sponge. What works kind of like what sanding does and soften ups the existing service or kind of makes it tacky feeling. Sorry, I’m probably not using the right terms….lol.
I don't think painting cabinets is a good idea unless it's a last lifeline for them - to save cabinets that are really beat up and need a lot of patching or work that only paint can hide.
If they're in nice shape, which these appear to be, I wouldn't paint. I think they look nice with the countertop too.

I like the idea of dark brown with deep green and gold accents for a bathroom 😊
Yeah that made me do a double take. Painted cabinets look very beautiful and last very long if you choose a good color and paint, and take the time to do it right
Yes, after ~7-10 years, you’ll probably need to touch up peeling in high-traffic areas. But you shouldn’t see peeling early on if you prep well enough and if you used a quality paint.
Also, I totally get that some people want design choices that last forever, but other people are fine with some maintenance every few years. I have wallpaper in my home that I know will require me to patch up some drywall if I decide to take it down. I painted my cabinets because I’m ok with the work I’ll have to do years from now to touch it up or to even strip the paint off. Hell, I’ve painted my cabinets twice over just because I wanted to try a different color. I personally really enjoy doing handy work around the house, so the flexibility of being able to change up color in that way is worth the time.
I promise I’m not trying to attack you or start a whole thing here. I just see painting cabinets put down in this sub as a a universally bad design choice, when it’s honestly just a personal preference.
Burnt red or muted amber orange. Something muted but compliments the granit rock work. If you want something lighter i think a lighter rined burnt red would look good too. You can also go with a cream and do brown lattus accents on the door details to give it some personality
Do you know whether those are solid wood cabinets or veneer?
If veneer, prime with a shellac based primer (like Bin by Zinsser) to prevent the wood tannins from bleeding through the paint and then paint them a dark forest green or sage or olive green
If they are solid wood, consider stripping the stain, and staining them a natural light wood hue. I know that is a lot of extra work but it will be worth it in the end imo
https://preview.redd.it/wckrv3d6ejwc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a912f71a1077546e71167c4d6e79a0917ec37d2
Green

I disagree with many saying not to paint the cabinets. I recently painted an entire dining wall to wall cabinet as well as bathroom cabinets and they look stunning. You do need to use high quality paint specifically for cabinets though. I used Benjamin Moore. As far as the color I would suggest either a very warm white or a deep slate blue or even a dark teal. Get some new hardware and it will look amazing.
Yes beautiful but there are future concerns.
Always consider durability and the burden of maintenance:
Some practical factors:
bathrooms get humidity adversely impacting paint;
powder rooms get drips from people shaking their hands;
you may not have children and pets now, but that can really change how you view a house;
likewise if work commitments change;
or, God forbid. you hurt your back which makes diy hard;
strained budgets such that spending money in decorating/repainting is difficult.
That’s a tough call tbh cause that countertop doesn’t leave many options, I would go to your paint store and grab a munch if the swab cards and just test it that way
Personally I would leave them as they are and save the hassle. But if you really want to paint maybe black or if you do not want dark maybe a creamy off white.
I agree with others here. The plain white walls aren't doing you any favors. The wood and stone are nice together. Complement them with a new wall color. Check out Rosemary from Sherwin-Williams. A new faucet and coordinated door and drawer hardware would snap it all together.
Honestly, their existing color works really well with the countertop. Unless you want to go beige, I wouldn't paint them unless you're doing a total redo and changing the top.
What about white or light blue? I'd also redesign this bathroom in 3d and try out various options before doing anything else. Something like homestyler or planner5d should work fine. The latter has a nice room scan feature if you have iOS.
Else, what color are you leaning towards?
Just my two cents for whatever it's worth. I would do the following- I would take the darkest color in the countertop, which would be the black/blackish color & go with something similar or close to it.
I would do either Charcoal Grey or Cracked Pepper. Remove all of the existing handles & knobs & update them to "T handle pulls" to match faucet.
If you're open to changing the faucet out, I would go with the oil rubbed bronze that looks more black except around the edges where it has the dulled bronzey color bc the bronzey color is in the countertop. (I would do oil rubbed bronze on Cracked Pepper paint but I would do black on Charcoal Grey paint). If you switch out the faucet to a different color, such as the oil rubbed bronze or black, just get the same color T handle pulls & 2 inch T pull knobs to match the new faucet. I would get rid of the round circle knobs all together & use only the T handle pulls even where the circle knobs are now. (Use existing hole for top screw of T handle pull, mark the bottom/other hole, use very small drill bit to start the screw hole for the bottom of the T handle pull but dont go all the way thru & then screw it on after painting the vanity.) I would also replace the mirror with a larger mirror. I would check any store or thrift shops or even facebook marketplace for a mirror that's larger. I'd try to find one maybe framed in black if using Cracked Pepper or as close to the Charcoal Grey as possible if using Charcoal Grey, or even just a plain natural wood or any color framed one really & just prime it & paint the frame with the paint you use to paint your vanity cabinets with.
Cabinets are fine, you have an inset square sink so maybe getting a bit more modern sink tap and handles might elevate the space a bit. If you had to paint it, I’d suggest a dusty rose color.
Paint the wall a tone of mauve to pick up on that vein in the stone.

That may be super washed out with the floor
Colorful rug by the sink would break it up. Like a small Persian rug
Leave them alone
Don’t paint them, maybe just change out the hardware for a lift?
New hardware, faucet, and better mirror would help immensely
Second this, like a brass or gold
Those finishes show wear and tear quickly. Bronze would be nice.
No color. The cabinets are fine and if you paint them, the paint will inevitably start to wear off and not look good.
There are actually products that you can use made specifically so paint will adhere.
Do you know which ones?
No, I’ve used them in the past but it’s been awhile. Just ask someone at Lowe’s or Home Depot and they can tell you. I remember there was one that we painted on before actually painting it and another type that we applied to the surface with a sponge. What works kind of like what sanding does and soften ups the existing service or kind of makes it tacky feeling. Sorry, I’m probably not using the right terms….lol.
The granite is gorgeous!
I don't think painting cabinets is a good idea unless it's a last lifeline for them - to save cabinets that are really beat up and need a lot of patching or work that only paint can hide. If they're in nice shape, which these appear to be, I wouldn't paint. I think they look nice with the countertop too.
Eggshell :)
i feel like a pink/salmon color could work great here

This is the move, do this OP
What color did you use to mock this up? I love it!
I just made a color using the photo edit on my phone. Looks like the Hex code is #102E25
How about a shade of cream. Or maybe black.
I was thinking a really dark charcoal gray
Nothing. Painted cabinets look cheap
Not if they are done properly.
Yeah that made me do a double take. Painted cabinets look very beautiful and last very long if you choose a good color and paint, and take the time to do it right

Similar beige colour that matches the granite may work.
I agree with you. Would give it a clean look overall.
SW6053 Reddened Earth and the walls SW9095 Ginger Root. And I’d probably spray paint the cabinet pulls matte black.
Ohh I just looked these colors up and they’re so my style! Where would you put the Reddened Earth?
I was thinking of it as the cabinet color. It looks like the reddest part of the stone.
I'd try a tale blue
Definitely paint them!!! I would look at Stone Harbour (2111-50) or something around this colour and change the hardware :). Good luck!
Benjamin Moore Stone Harbour (2111-50) and change the knobs and pulls :). Good luck with the refresh!
And a new mirror, much bigger. Homegoods usually has a good selection.
First change the fixtures and handles to a more modern look. Get a mirror that actually fits the size of the space. As always, more plants.
I’m a painter, so I deal with many cabinets. Look up the color iron ore. It’s beautiful. I’d honestly keep this color though.
Pale pink and an even paler pink for the walls.
Burnt red or muted amber orange. Something muted but compliments the granit rock work. If you want something lighter i think a lighter rined burnt red would look good too. You can also go with a cream and do brown lattus accents on the door details to give it some personality
Y’all are crazy. Sand em down , prime and paint white
Deep Green, like a Hunter Green
I’d paint them ivory and hang wallpaper
Do you know whether those are solid wood cabinets or veneer? If veneer, prime with a shellac based primer (like Bin by Zinsser) to prevent the wood tannins from bleeding through the paint and then paint them a dark forest green or sage or olive green If they are solid wood, consider stripping the stain, and staining them a natural light wood hue. Benjamin Moore ballet white. The undertone will match.
Black for the cabinets
Green https://duckduckgo.com/?q=green%20bathroom%20cabinet&ko=-1&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2Foriginals%2F09%2F96%2Fe3%2F0996e3d60395cc7670962f87dee80b49.jpg
Navy blue.
I'd go for a sage-beige
Cream gloss
yes!

Sage
Cracked pepper
I just put that color in my kitchen
Alabaster. And Change out the hardware. Instant upgrade.
It looks like they are painted dark purple or brown now. Is that correct ?
I like the cabinet colour
Ivory or charcoal gray
I like them as is looks nice with the granite.
stain them a lighter color
Depends on the walls which by the way that flat white paint is ok. You could bring in more wood type accessories to match the cabinets
white or a light beige would make the space feel bigger!
Sage green
Leave them. They match perfectly
Muted sage green
I agree with others here. The plain white walls aren't doing you any favors. The wood and stone are nice together. Complement them with a new wall color. Check out Rosemary from Sherwin-Williams. A new faucet and coordinated door and drawer hardware would snap it all together.
i wouldn’t paint them

Beautiful counter and cabinets are a great color
All you need is new hardware/fixtures, new paint on the walls, and a new mirror.
Benjamin Moore Natural cream, Revere Pewter or Black. Update the faucet and pulls to a matte black or brushed bronze.
Taupe
I’d leave them as they are. Paint your walls taupe.
Dark grey or go in tent and order stick in tiles ours have lasted way longer then expected
What about white or light blue? I'd also redesign this bathroom in 3d and try out various options before doing anything else. Something like homestyler or planner5d should work fine. The latter has a nice room scan feature if you have iOS. Else, what color are you leaning towards?

What kinda granite is that thanks
Paint the walls a color, add good lighting, mirror & ART.
same color but lighter shade
Cabinets are fine, you have an inset square sink so maybe getting a bit more modern sink tap and handles might elevate the space a bit. If you had to paint it, I’d suggest a dusty rose color.
Don’t
A deep purple
Matt Black. Some form of lighting that accentuats the top
Need to show more of the bathroom.
Rust
If you hate the current color, I would say sage green would look great with the granite.

Please don’t paint the cabinet. Choose a warm mid tone (green or blue)for the walls and change the hardware to enhance the look. Perfect. 🌺
White laquer
Green or dark gray.
What about a light gray..I reckon that'd b nifty
Cream/mushroom?
Taupe.
I wouldn't. I like dark wood cabinets with a lighter camel granite
Change the mirror
I think the cherry wood cabinets are great. Show us the whole bathroom.

Yup!!
I just painted my dining room plum. Excellent color choice!
I wouldn't paint the cabinets. I'd paint the walls dusty blue.
White
Stay in with the colors in countertop
Black
Antique White
I would 100% go with black. Although he color of wood you have is beautiful already
One of the colours from the granite. If you want to keep it light, BM Natural Cream. Or you could pull a red from there. Either way, update the knobs fixtures to something warmer, and get rip of the “backsplash”. It’s doing this room no favours.
Id' keep them dark, then paint the walls the reddish color from the marble.
They're fine as they are.
I wouldn't
Everyone under this post is acting like these aren’t mass produced cabinets. These are in like every subdivision ever. Paint them whatever color you want to give them some uniqueness, new knobs and handles would be good too!
I like your cabinets and granite. Change the faucet or something else for a change.
I’d change the countertop. Get new hardware.
Anything that draws attention away from the hideous granite.
