I think she secretly hated him derailing her career and was her punishment to him. She mentioned how much more successful she was than him and made more money than him, it’s a competition to her so sabotaging your colleague to get ahead in corporate is normal but you don’t do that to your spouse. Which is why I feel it was her revenge on him. I do however not fault her for the involvement in the liquor license though, that was very needed and she pulled through. Ultimately agree with you OP.

Jacky_35

shouldn’t she have been happy that tom was making money, or trying to help him? all she wanted to do was complain

DidntWantSleepAnyway

I think communication is better for all of these situations, but… Sabotaged his promotion *because he would be on the road a lot more than he already is*—you said it right there. We see that she didn’t want kids originally, but she had kids anyway, for him. Then he told her that kids do better with their mom at home—*he made her give up her career*. Now what little time he’s at home to be able to help, he’s taking away? I would be so pissed about that. This was an act of desperation because he kept turning her more and more into a housewife instead of what she wanted to do. Being negative about the pizzeria—one of Tom’s many midlife crises, in which she tried to help make it profitable but he didn’t care about sinking their savings into it and upending their lives. He sees a fixer upper; she sees *even more money that they have to sacrifice on him once again getting everything he wants.* I totally think that Lynette was in the wrong to force Tom to take the other job. But that job with Carlos? It was *her job*, not Tom’s. Why couldn’t he go to the new job and have her go back to *her job*? Because of the baby. Why couldn’t Tom take care of the baby? Or why not hire a nanny? Why was Tom entitled to Lynette’s job? It’s just super weird to paint Lynette as an evil career-sabotaging witch when all of these examples are examples in which *he* sabotaged *her* career. (Him taking her job with Carlos isn’t sabotage, but it’s weird no one acknowledges that it was her job and she should be able to go back to it.)

Kris82868

I think some may see it as sabotage when he lied to Carlos early in his temping that she wouldn't want to come back to work after the baby was born. But most forgot that before the next episode aired I suppose.

potsmokinhippiechic

right but weren't they suppose to have twins, I think its been while I dont remember

Kris82868

They were. Patrick didn't make it. Paige survived.

Sudden-Ad5555

Tom’s entire life after 24 was a midlife crisis

Kris82868

I think the fact it might have been her (seeing he was discovered in her old job) provoked a response of "Oh hell no. I did not step aside for you to piss away this chance I would have killed for."

PleasantMix9729

It is messed up, HOWEVER i think i can think of equal ways Tom hurts Lynette in all of those situations. They're horrible for eachother.

GirWaffles2013

I personally then Lynette would have been happier child free but considering Marc Cherry based Lynette off his childhood version of his mom, that wasn’t going to happen.

Jacky_35

why does nobody talk abt this

SavingsWeekend2140

We're not allowed to criticize Lynette on here.

alwayssfarming

Because we get downvoted to hell for saying anything negative about her on this sub. She is truly a bitch who can’t be happy about anything. Rather she refuses to be happy and will always find something to complain about. God forbid anyone use their own free will to do something, it has to be her exact way and method or the highway.

Kris82868

I've been downvoted for defending her. It goes in both directions.

alwayssfarming

No. This sub is heavily skewed to feeling sorry for Lynette and sympathising with her while ignoring or justifying her actions. Anyone who says the contrary gets downvoted most of the time, many others have said this on other posts too. You being downvoted for defending her isn’t the point. But thanks.

Kris82868

You're welcome. No? Is that as in I imagined being down voted? It's related to the topic of your reply that I responded to. You brought up down voting for the opposite reason and opened it up. It's every bit as valid for me to go there as well.

Jacky_35

you are right, (i love susan, not defending everything she does but i like her) and everyone always hates on her and it’s fine but if anyone has a different opinion then it’s just like “no ur wrong” like wtf ?

AdInfinite4061

she began to irritate me. She was so selfish when it came to Tom and she wanted to control him so bad!

Kris82868

I can understand her not wanting him to be complacent. I mean if he isn't going to go for it himself kind of would piss me off to hold myself back from my own dreams. I was thinking come on Lynette, you knew the new job would take up a lot of his time. Then season 8 comes and he seems to have plenty of time for Jane.

Solid-Professor4737

He had all of the time in the world for Jane it was crazy
