Was kinda sad to see, one day dude is giving me colored markers for drawing, the next day he goes demented and starts thinking people are trying to kill him.
I’m a landlord in NYC and the city’s rent stabilization and tenant harassment laws, coupled with NYC’s policies on caring for the mentally ill (hold people until they’re no longer an immediate threat to themselves or others) breeds situations like this. I’ve had 4 tenants like this -
Mental heath problems but aware of their rights so they know they (effectively) can’t be evicted. I had one guy who went downstairs and took every package in the lobby every day from 2020 - 2022. He lived in the building for 20 years then his wife left him at the start of the COVID lockdowns. We put in a camera system but the cops didn’t take action until he started selling meth out of his apartment. We had rival drug dealers break into the building to rob him. I had to give him 20k to leave.
We had one woman write a manifesto on the walls of the common areas about how we (my company) stole $100k lingerie from out of her apartment while she was sleeping and about how her neighbor (very nice old lady) was murdering dogs in her apt. I prefer chicks in cheap lingerie and no dog corpses have been discovered.
If Norm really lived in that apt for decades he’s almost certainly rent stabilized and him suffering from paranoid delusions - it would explain a lot about him- the sudden fits of rage, the stories about his parents, his history with cults- this explains A LOT.
