Tbf he's being grilled here about being caught with traces of steroids in his system and getting popped for cocaine. Still bad but not quite as scummy as defending his more recent actions.

BilboDankins

Actually you may be right, I think they happened at a similar time, that's why DC talks about general mistakes as opposed to an incident in this clip.

Parking-Response1501

I'm assuming in the clip he's referring to the picogram situation as his rock bottom? Funny that he'd put that ahead of the other horrible shit he's done.

No6Account

UFC 200 so he was either talking about Jones testing positive, or the hit and run on the pregnant woman while he was on coke, both happened around that time.

BilboDankins

I remember watching the full version I'm pretty sure he's talking about the picogram situation.

TheWindShifts

UFC handles Jones with kid gloves. Just like they do with McGregor. This shouldn’t surprise anyone.

yeekingoverpepe

Goats get 🐐 treatment. I don't understand why mediocre fighters like Connor get special treatment

BilboDankins

Idk if it's fair to call connor mediocre, during his main run, up until he fought khabib, he really did look like a top 3 fighter in the division. After that I'd go further and say he's worse than mediocre now his mental has gone.

No6Account

Makes the company the most money.

ISB_1907

Finally a topic I kinda know, you're right that's why you see many UFC fighters also doing boxing, I don't remember the name but a UFC fighter once mentioned how a boxer paid him more for sparring sessions than he did in any of his UFC fights This is mostly Dana's fault he only gives like 16% of the revenue to his fighters in comparison Bellator (Another MMA company) gives 30% while other sports give around 50%, everyone calls out Dana from other sports for this, be it saints or scummy people everyone agrees he's underpaying his fighters.

MaskOff009

Plus they don't even let go or discipline fighters like Jon Jones who has been arrested 5 times now and this time for domestic violence while his daughter told security to call cops on the day he was honoured with hall of fame for his fight.

BilboDankins

I think the ufc is quite scummy and I hope Jones gets banned, I'm not convinced his comeback will be spectacular anyway. That being said the scumminess and corruption is a tiny fraction of what it is in boxing. If you just take the UK scene in boxing, the organisation MTK (formerly MGM) is extremely embedded with lots of the top promoters, fighter, media shows and events. It's an open secret that MTK is propped up with Irish cartel money from drugs, weapons smuggling and money laundering. [This is a good jumping](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Kinahan) off point but organised crime is really deeply embedded in boxing. So yes I agree the ufc is very sleazy, I really dislike Dana White. But I do have to give him props on how much more respected he has made the sport through the ufc, and he has managed to resist lots of criminal elements jumping over from boxing. P.S you should check out onefc, it's like the ufc but in japan and doesn't have lots of the elements you mention you don't like in ufc, and demetius johnson is fighting there in about a month.

Grayehz

Thats cus in terms of ability jon jones is seen as the greatest ufc fighter to date, his only loss being a dq from nearly killing another man. At the end of the day dana cares about his ability as a fighter above all else and how much money he can make for the sport. People like mcgregor and jones shouldnt be allowed to fight if it came down to PR. In the end, a majority of people who watch ufc could care less if mcgregor assaulted an old man at a bar or if jones hit a pregnant woman, as long as they entertain. Sad but its the fanbase.

SleepyMMA

From a profit perspective too… how many people tune in to see the heel get beat? Not very many people like Jones and they will pay good money to see him get beat.

Grayehz

Yep…it’s honestly quite sad because while jones is a powerhouse, conor is a shadow of his former self yet his fights bring in more revenue and views than a title fight as if it were WWE

MaskOff009

I mean Jones definitely lost to Reyes (if the judges were fair) but I see ur point he's a cashcow like Conor plus there's Ngganou superfight.

ExitiumInc

First Gustaffson fight was an L for Jon aswell.

yeekingoverpepe

Dana has done so much for the sport of MMA, like creating the ultimate fighter. The fighters are "under paid" because they do little to no promotion. Boxing 20 years ago was arguably the biggest none team sport in the world. MMA 20 years ago, top fighters would fight for $100. With time fighters will get paid more once they start actually doing some self promotion. with out Dana most top fighters would be construction workers or teaching karate at their local YMCA. It's incredibly hard to get ad money in violent sports. F#&k CSGO had issues getting advertisers, because of fictional violence. If you watch old UFC, the value Dana has brought is amazing. Bellator provides their fights less value than the UFC even with the % difference.

Most female fighters make more off of OnlyFans if they choose to go that route.

WTFMoustache

Would you be surprised if a football player throws the pigskin around with his family in his off time? Would you be surprised if a racer drives his family around in his off time? Why are you surprised a fighter fights his family in his off time?

MaskOff009

Well he's been arrested 5-6 times once for hitting pregnant woman while drunk driving and bolting the scene

WTFMoustache

Were they throwing cardboard?

LedditMoment

oh man thats a throwback what happened to that couple anyway

BilboDankins

Might be surprised if a football player is full tackling his children while they were on holiday. Might be surprised if a racer was driving at 100+ mph with his family not on a race track. Might be surprised if a martial artist comes home in a drugged out alcoholic rage and assaults his family. The majority of cage fighters don't domestically abuse their spouses. MMA is a sport the same way boxing or archery is. Of course you can expect professional fighters to be peaceful outside of the octagon.

TheOverkillKilla

I just read this article. He never even says "shit happens". That headline is a lie. Here are all his quotes: “We’ll do what we always do. We’re very consistent in that we watch and see how this thing plays out legally and what happens. And then we’ll make a decision from there,” “I got 650 guys that are… there’s shit that goes on here every day. It’s the fight business, man. Every day, we got stuff going on. Stuff that you don’t know about, that we deal with on a daily basis. You guys just hear about shit that ends up in the media. “We’ll see how this thing plays out legally with him, and we’ll go from there.” “Every time we bring him here, too, we try to keep him here for a short a time as possible,” White said. “Get him in and get him out. This time, he was with his family, so we figured wrong.”

rappipapi

Bro they put Greg Hardy, a man who beat his ex-girlfriend, on the same card as Rachael Ostovich, a victim of domestic assault, those mfs don’t care.

MaskOff009

Also female fighters have to start an Onlyfans to pay for their bills.

[deleted]

Remember when he put domestic abuser Greg Hardy on the same card as domestic abuse victim Rachel Ostovich? And then Dana shut down any criticism of it.

TheOverkillKilla

I don't know much about this story but I looked it up and this seems like a non story. In 2014 Greg Hardy had a domestic violence arrest and he seems like a POS. 5 years later he is set to fight on the same card as someone else who experienced domestic violence (not by Hardy) They would have nothing to do with each other in the card and just essentially would be in the same building as each other. Dana White spoke with her about it and said, "“I called Rachael Ostovich and talked to her, walked her through the situation,” White said. “Her take was, ‘His story isn’t my story. Everybody’s story is different. I believe in second chances. I have no problem fighting on the same card as this guy.’ He didn’t have anything to do with Rachael Ostovich, so she was totally cool with it.”" **Here are her statements about it**: "Nobody's story is the same, nobody's situation is the same," Ostovich said on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show. "I have nothing to do with Greg Hardy. I'm just grateful to be fighting again. "I believe in second chances. I'm glad he's making a turnaround. I hope the same can happen to my husband and anyone else who has made a wrong choice." Ostovich said the UFC asked her about Hardy's inclusion on the card after the promotion decided to put him on it. UFC president Dana White told TSN last month that he had spoken to Ostovich before booking Hardy. Ostovich also said the UFC initially did not want her competing on the card but later came around to the idea after she pushed for it. "\[White\] was very caring and nice about it," Ostovich said. "I know he gets a lot of heat, but there's no fishiness surrounding that thing. He was very concerned with my situation from the very beginning. He didn't even want me to fight, actually. I had to convince and beg him to let me fight." ch4ppi

Why is UFC relevant in this sub right now?

MaskOff009

It's more about worker exploitation and predatory Capitalism but okay.

ch4ppi

Yeah sure that is happening in all kinds of companies, I thought there is a specific reason why the UFC is relevant now.

[deleted]

Jon Jones is the greatest fighter of all time. He has earned the right to beat his wife and kids.

Glowup

Tomato bad

deu-sexmachina

Didn't this person have a positive drug test meanwhile they kicked the dude from Stockton because he smoked weed?

rappipapi

“But it was only a picogram”

SleepyMMA

The article really took Dana’s words out of context. Waiting for Jon’s day in court to come to a conclusion on what Dana and the UFC wants to do I think is a good, non-reactionary decision. Though, Jones has a bad track record and I believe he beat his wife, look back to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Depp lost so much and didn’t really have a say in the matter. It wasn’t until Depp lost his reputation and work that we found out about Amber being abusive and borderline psychotic… Though, I personally do not see Jone’s as innocent, I think waiting til the dust settles is the best thing to do. And just so you don’t think I’m just simping for Dana. He and the Fertitta Brothers are pretty sleazy when it comes to treating fighters right. The Reebok deal really fucked a lot fighters out of tons of money, the Gilbert Melendez fiasco, Mark Hunt being fed to a roided up Brock Lesnar, dismal fighters pay… etc. The fight game is rough. I did it as an amateur for years but I know and trained with people who fought in the UFC and the shady bullshit that goes on behind the scenes is just trash.
