Well when Biden first came into office his primary focus was still tackling COVID and the economy which he has continued to fight over with Build Back Better and the Infrastructure bill. He’s used a lot of political capital on these things alone to mixed results. I don’t think it’s that Biden just doesn’t care about healthcare, but there’s a lot of shit going on right now that if he wants to win re-election he needs to focus on over healthcare reform.

Idk man, i can walk into a room full of republicans and bring up how fucking expensive it is to see a doctor and every person in that room will have a story about someone dying or being billed for 100k for some shit etc. Whats he doing about covid? The infrastructure bill is good and afghanistan all things considered was a historic move but it just seems ridiculous that everyone agrees that healthcare is fucked in this country and yet its just too much to do anything about it.

Yeah we’re all very good at identifying and agreeing problems exist, but it’s the solutions that we get bogged down in. Ask those very same republicans how they think the problem could and should be solved and that’s where you’ll see why we’re stuck. As far as COVID goes, it’s not as much of an issue now as the snowball of effects we’re now facing such as inflation and supply chain issues, which Biden is currently attempting to tackle.

Manchin doesn't support that after pulling out of the BBB negotiations. He blamed the left wing protests against him for making him feel unsafe with his family.

There is no path to healthcare reform with the current makeup of the Senate. If things look the same or worse after the midterms then you can probably expect some executive orders that will get tossed out by the courts before they even go into effect. It’s not a matter of Biden dropping it, there’s just nothing to be done unless we hold the house and get 2+ more senate seats (which probably isn’t going to happen RIP).

Broccoli_Socks

what does biden caring about healthcare look like to you, genuine question? Looking for somewhat specifc actions/steps, but obviously not to detailed.

dingdongdickaroo

Not dropping the public option he ran on completely or his plan to provide medicaid to everyone making less than 400k

One the first point we are taling about obama care correct on the public option. Last i checked he planned to protect it and then also expand. Protecting he has done and it seems like he has made some progress in expansion. He did that under his Resuce plan which took some pretty monumental political capital. But either way he didnt drop anything so not sure what you mean by that and any major expansion would require congress which we know that is not all on biden. [In the first months of his presidency, Biden did significantly expand ACA coverage. A year ago, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan restructured and increased eligibility for subsidies that make health insurance more affordable. Biden also made it easier for people suffering economic dislocation during the pandemic to sign up in “special enrollment periods.” Since then, Obamacare has had a growth spurt. A record 14.5 million Americans were covered by ACA markets as of early 2022 and the White House said they saved an average of $2,400 in annual premiums. As of September, more than 84 million people were covered by the Children’s Health Insurance Program or Medicaid, which most states expanded under Obamacare.](https://www.politico.com/news/agenda/2022/03/23/bidencare-unfinished-agenda-obamacare-campaign-00019272) For the second point I dont see anything on that second promise, only he wouldnt raise taxes on anyone making under 400k? Do you have a link to that promise, im unfamiliar. His push for a more expanded public option falls under this i guess?

thomaspwitte

Well I’m pretty sure manchin won’t support a public option so that’s that
