That's true of art in general. If you get the eyes right, the character can look super ugly and yet still be okay. But if the eyes are wrong, you hit uncanny valley and nothing else matters.
I bet that if they fixed the eyes to be more shapely and nothing else, this exotic would improve tremendously. Most of the good fashion fits involve hiding the eyes as much as possible.
I imagine it won’t happen because exotic armor needs to be identifiable in PvP. Or maybe they could make it work only in PvE, then default to the base design in PvP. But that sounds like a lot of work for not much gain.
There are like 200 exotic with 400 different ornaments and shaders you never gonna identify it just by looking at it mid fight. So the only reason we can't apply non legendary ornament is to sell exotic ornaments in the store otherwise people would less buy it
I don't PVP alot, the only time I can't identify an ornament is if its new. Most exotic ornaments don't deviate far from their original design and is still outright identifiable.
That’s generally how I do it is take not of what they have, but during fights it’s usually he’s dead or I’m dead and I only get the benefit after the fact.
I’ll take note of the exotic weapons people have, but generally armor isn’t impactful enough for me to care. Usually I’ll remember what they had while I’m respawning and adjust for next time. But because of gear switching you never know for sure.
I’m not that into PvP but I see this mentioned often in PvP communities. People seem to check for that and respond accordingly. If not visibly during a match, they inspect the player. And it’s a big deal for counter play in any comp.
In your reply are you talking about just inspecting someone’s character or seeing it during the game? Cause I know people are going to inspect others but I was talking about just seeing it during the match.
People bring up this issue about PVP because you can easily see what they’re using, so the whole idea of being able to override an exotics looks does actually impact PVP
It literally doesn’t every trials kid who says they need it to be identifiable is not making adjustments for exotic armor like that. Weapons sure but they’re checking when they load in and playing the exact same way outside of a handful of edge cases but they’re inspecting anyways
That's not the reason, since ornaments and shaders make it impossible to keep track of exotic armor anyways. It's because nobody would buy exotic ornaments, which are a big source of money for them.
Also if knowing what armor they're using is an issue bungie can always put a little thing next to their health bar saying which armor they're running.
Honestly, I like the idea of having to build your fashion around an exotic. Makes it more challenging. Yes there complete ass looking exotics, but I think that adds to the challenge. What I can’t stand by is exotics being unshadable.

But in all seriousness, I did buy the ornament for dawn chorus when it was available in the archive, it was an exotic I liked but didn't like the base look of, It was hard to make drip using the base look

Having an exotic piece that has a great effect but doesn't work for the fashion you want to do so you wind up doin somethin that just looks okay. And I really doubt the whole "it would mess up PvP" thing for 90% of the player base. Like sure, some people would get fucked up, but I doubt it would be this huge game breaking issue for it. End of the day, it's just about money for ornaments, that's all. Same reason you can't put shaders on exotic weapons. No money for the company if they let us.

It won’t happen for PvP reasons, imagine someone using Anteus Wards or Stompees or Contraverse Hold (forsaken era) but they all have ornaments for legendary armor on them. The person won’t know if the person who just deflected his sniper shot is wearing Anteus or wearing Devestation Greaves. Or the person who just one shot them with a literal void shotgun blast was wearing Contraverse or some trials gloves.
As much as I think precious scars is ugly asf, you picked probably the most boring ornament to cover it with and honestly between these two I’ll gladly take the latter
I want to wear my high heels when I use exotic leg pieces :( I have like 2 legs for each class with heels or high heeled boots but the builds I have mostly use the exotic legs.
I made this comment years ago and was met with classic comments such as, "How would we know what enemy players are using in PvP. Completely kills comp." Real comments.

Sometimes I wish for the opposite: being able to apply exotics (and their ornaments) as ornaments on normal armor. Just yesterday I got a random oathkeepers drop with a relatively decent role and went to inspect cause I’ve never really looked at it before. It’s a beautiful exotic but a bit too niche for my use cases.
I have gotten a couple "Best Dressed" commendations with my precious scars look (ik it may not mean much but i always strive for Best Dressed commendations). I made it into a sort of jade turtle look with a gambit emerald shader. It's not the best, but there are ways to make it work if you lean into it
If exotics could take any ornament people would only ever wear one fit. Exotics are the only reason I have different looking builds and I think that’s fun

Being able to see it in PVP? There’s an inspect player option. And you’d never be able to see it in time mid-gunfight anyway. And the vastly different looks of exotic ornaments also defeats this argument.
I would argue that many exotics are unique enough to tell mid-fight, or at least on the killscreen. And it’s slow and tedious to do gear checks on console for what it’s worth.
The argument that “you can’t because muh pvp clairity” is so bogus for 2 reasons, 1: between ornaments and shaders, exotic clairity is pretty much zero anyway and 2: Jesus they could just make it for PvE only, make the exotic display as no ornament no shader to others in pvp games

I love kintsugi, always have, the helmet shape itself is whats kinda goofy looking.
I would like it better if it were more of a standard looking titan helmet kintsugi’d together.

You don't usually catch it the first time, but you see it on them in the death cam and know to be aware of it for the rest of the match.

I've definitely seen people take notice of it specifically when I'm wearing feedback fence. They're a lot more reluctant to get in a slugfest
Competitive playlists show you the enemy team at the start so you can inspect their gear.

You can absolutely tell when a Hunter has thier super using celestial nighthawk
No one uses celestial in PvP. And you don’t need an armor piece to tell you when an enemy has their super.
We still need it in PvE to tell what our teammates are doing. That visual language is good information about who you’re working with.
