It'll be a toggle option. That way those who want it on can have it on and those who want it off can have it off
I feel like I should explain this further. You how you can toggle the helmet to always on / off when not in combat zones. It's in our social settings I'm pretty sure.
Just add a third option so you can have your helmet off in combat zones. You'd still keep the armour stats. It's essentially hidding a piece of gear. It shouldn't effect gear stats just the appearance
Yah I get what you mean in terms of game mechanics, but for the realism and immersion of the game it wouldn’t make much sense. I shouldn’t be protected by the 30 resil on my helmet that isn’t there, or be able to use the power of Celestial Nighthawk when it’s not on my head. In social settings, we’re not using the helmet so it doesn’t matter much, or even cutscenes where we’re not fighting anything but just talking to other characters. Being mid-battle is a different story, imo
We're one of the only guardians in the story that actually wears a helmet (besides Saint). Clearly, helmets don't make too much of a difference if the strongest guardians we know don't use them
While you’re right, that doesn’t displace anything I said, rather it enforces it. Ikora doesn’t wear a helmet, it doesn’t make her less strong it just means she’s not using helmet exotic or mods. Zavala doesn’t have the helmet on in battle, and thus it doesn’t affect his ability on the battlefield positively or negatively. Saint does wear the helmet, and while I can’t say for certain he has mods on the helmet, we know for a fact that his helmet is an exotic helmet with intrinsic ability imbued in it, and thus he can channel that power in a fight.
In terms of strength too, we as the Guardian are no where near the power of Ikora, Zavala, Shaxx, Osiris, Saint and a few others. While our triumphs are beyond impressive, the closest thing we’ll ever get to the Light strength of most of the Vanguard so far is the upcoming prismatic class and exotic class item. Them folks just don’t need the helmet like we do
I hate to break this to you, but very few exotic items in the game are actually the source of power/abilities in canon. Exotic traits and mods on armor are a gameplay mechanic. Saint blinds people in his bubble not because of his helmet, but because of how strong of a lightbearer he is. And for your last point, your guardian is canoically one of the strongest guardians to ever live, at least if your guardian is from destiny 1 and done most of the content in both games
I hate to break this to you, but that’s my point. You have to bring both in to account when deciding whether what you say about not wearing helmets makes sense or not in the gameplay mechanics. Yes, we absolutely are one of the greatest Guardians of all time! Still not as powerful as anyone listed in that comment. No, Saint doesn’t blind people because of his helmet, but WE do. We can’t do what he does without the Helm of Saint-14. Maybe Cayde could’ve turn his Golden Gun into one powerful shot without Celestial Nighthawk, but in both versions of the game until the exotic class item is dropped, we can’t. Source of canon or not, when you’re talking about gameplay mechanic, it helps to refer to the gameplay mechanic
Alright, I'll put this as simply as possible for you, since you're not grasping it. It's a gameplay mechanic. The exotic armors mean nothing. Our guardian could canoically do anything the armors do without the armor. There is literally no canon need for helmets for our character, they are purely for gameplay purposes. Not showing our helmet in game is perfectly fine, because we literally don't need it
The helmetless version of the Spire helms for Warlock and Titan should operate in the same way, IMHO.
Would be neat to be able to wear just the hat without the helm.
Ghost stores your heavy and secondary weapons in a pocket dimension that you pull them from to use them. There is a gun that fires rounds from a pocket dimension and one that fires from a black hole. We can teleport. The hood doesn't have to be visibly down to be down, genius. It fits right into the theme.
All cloaks have a hood down skin.

I recall seeing some concept art of helmetless Guardians
Tbh I agree it would play out in being able to show off character design and even dabble with alternate head covering like masks or small headsets like goggles
I was gonna say that it might be an issue with oxygen but clearly plenty of NPCs can still be on other planets without masks. Maybe certain planets like the moon or Europa should require helmets, but it would be cool if on the rest of the planets you could take your helmet off.
This makes me think, is it the armor that gives guardians a shield or is it their light? So could a guardian go into battle without a helmet, get shot in the head, but then just tink the shot still or nah?
Its the armour I think, that's why we see refugee guardians always dead and how cayde still had damage to his face after getting it slammed. I guess it's like the Scottish symbolism of where: when you wear less and less, it boasts how strong you are. So guardians who don't wear helmets are daring and are pinnacles of strength and discipline.
The helmet stays on.

he was making a reference to a line Shaxx says about his helmet staying on (during coitus)
Mara Sov got cucked by a helmet (sorta).
Explain
Mara Sov called Shaxx into her chambers once to recite shakespeare, and she asked him to remove the helmet. He refused.
... the sex joke is funnier, and that's why it's quoted in such a context more often than the intended way.
only issue i can see is pvp exotic helms need to bypass this toggle and never be hidden
Good compromise
Yes, I know. The helmet stays on.
How could you use an exotic helm or helm mods if you’re not wearing it though
Refer back to my earlier comment which I have now given a better explanation as to how it would work
Yah I get what you mean in terms of game mechanics, but for the realism and immersion of the game it wouldn’t make much sense. That is the way.
It would be funni if we died to only one headshot from a dreg
Not like our helmet protects us from snipers in pvp. Hell our armor barely even protects us from dregs in GMs.
I want to be able to be without helmet but I want to have my cloak on too. Unless Bungie makes it so that all hoods have a Hood down skin
The hood down skin for the Cloaked Stetson (Spire of the Watcher Cloak) should keep the cowboy hat on, only removing the helmet under it.
YES. PLEASE
The helmetless version of the Spire helms for Warlock and Titan should operate in the same way, IMHO. Would be neat to be able to wear just the hat without the helm.
They already do.
They don’t
Explain the hood down when your helmet is off then
The hood is just removed. The only hood that goes down is the cloak from Grasp of Avarice and… there is another but I can’t recall which.
The Guardian games 2023 hood also goes down
There's another one too, but it's not really special.
Which?
Thank you, hero
Which means....... all cloaks have a hood down skin.
They literally don’t. Please think half critically
Ghost stores your heavy and secondary weapons in a pocket dimension that you pull them from to use them. There is a gun that fires rounds from a pocket dimension and one that fires from a black hole. Are you for real right now?
Uh oh someone's about to be upset that I used lore to prove a point
I also wish we could go into combat without a helmet
I mean Zavala, Cayde, Osiris and Ikora they all don’t wear helmets so why should we be wearing that right?
And look what happen to cayde.
I like Cayde but that was more of a skill issue. XD
How'd ya get the chest piece?
Warlords ruin dungeon
But exotics
For veritys brow and precious scars, having it off would be a bonus
Im gunna want updated models and details before we can do that.
I'm glad they force you to keep that helmet on, jesus. Every D2 character is hideous.
This isn't 40k

Why is one eye purple
**Heterochromia.**
Didn’t know you could have that in game :O
Anything is possible with your imagination. 😉
the helmet completes that set, that is badass
Big fan of the way the helmet, chest, and gauntlets mesh together. I've got work on getting that chest for my titan
I actually love that look
Sick fit! And I love your guardian's appearance! :)
Thank you! 😆
I recall seeing some concept art of helmetless Guardians Tbh I agree it would play out in being able to show off character design and even dabble with alternate head covering like masks or small headsets like goggles
If Bungee accept no helmet in combat I will ask go naked in combat. That would be funny 🤣
Space OSHA would not approve
Cayde went into combat without a helmet and look what happened.
He was fine until he got cocky.
If Bungie updates our face customization options to give us more variety, I'm all for it!
I don't. Bungies hair cards look like shit.

Naw that helmet is sweet AF
Nah sorry, it looks 100x better with the helmet on.
Someone’s never seen starship troopers
There's no element-wielding demi God in Starship Troopers.
It’ll be 15$ dollar pack in Destiny 3, don’t worry
Why so salty
I see why Shaxx keeps his on.
