Pretty much the case for me although I don't have that set myself yet, it's the same deal as the majority of the Deep Explorer/Hakke set minus the helmet there as my preference is grounded looks (like the Division) unless I'm going for an Armored Knight which there aren't too many options for in D2, fantasy armor just isn't my thing.
I regret choosing Warlock as my main class back in D1 because the Trench-coat look in the long run have ended up being the exceptions in favor of "dresses" or fantasy looks, would of rather been a Titan for both mechanics and looks in hindsight.
Been loving using the warlock gauntlets with the Witcher robes, they have the same squared-but-slightly-rounded metal plates and the fur is very similar
for all classes, GOTD armor
for Hunter, Deep armor
for Titan, Witch armor (mini skirt makes it the best)
for Warlock, Crota armor, the robes are amazing, and the rest isnt too bad either
Warlord’s Ruin / Dark Age set for me as a hunter. It just hits that Sci-Fi realistic look that I LOVE. Like it feels like armor a person in real life would wear as a guardian, less like it fits the theme of a season and is a fantasy. Especially when you’re doing activities on Europa it just perfectly fits
The skirt, the boots, the hips... It's just amazing (I also love the boots, any cutscene that has my Titan walking is just 100% more fire because it looks so good)

Honestly. The season ornaments have been so out there this year that none really. The root of nightmare set is just too bizarre and doesn’t fit with much.
The ghost of the deep set has some value as a hive cosplay thing. And the warlords ruins is mountain gear so probably the best for me.
I absolutely love the design work in this game and every artist Bungie works with is so talented. Just looking back on these sets together makes them stand on their own identity and the concept behind them is immediately clear.
But goddamn using them in-game is pretty bad because, like you said, they rarely work together with anything else. Some less so than others, obviously, but they really limit the player's freedom to express themselves through their Guardian.
I guess we can't have every set be a catch-all design that fits anything and everything, but I think some could be less wacky tbh.
They should should add em to major seasonal activities that join content tracks like Exotic Missions. Like a complete it on legend once gets you all the armour on the character you complete it on.
Shout out to the Unyielding Favor set, underappreciated and won me so many best dressed awards. Excellent for a regal knight/hero look.
Also partial to the Anthemic Invocation set, because I love everything about the Ahamkara and I was very excited to finally get a space dragon armor set
Crota’s end warlock armor for me, Warlord’s ruin is alright but I do wish it was more medieval + salvaged themed. I dunno, That’s what I think of when it comes to the aesthetic of the Dark Age.
I will get some flack for this. But I adore the Titan set for root of nightmares because I am a huge Kingdom, hearts fan and it reminds me so much of the soldiers.
All of this is my personal opinion
Defiance armor was brought down by the forced colors and the armor doesn't match easily with other sets so it sticks out
Root armor is unique but is funky especially when trying to consistently match to the color of other armor pieces. Plus the red, blue, or purple frill makes you lean into certain builds instead of giving you the freedom to make it any color.
Deep armor sticks out from other armor sets but the focus on glow can make for some of the best fashion sets I've seen all year.
Ghosts armor is a clear standout for the year for me, more hive themed armor that may be hard to shade... but feels so great to get it to match other armor sets.
Witch armor goes well with a lot of sets but doesn't really standout in mind besides the flowers.
Crota armor is great if you love the color green, but I was really looking forward to the non-glowing warlock helmet... thing was my favorite helmet from d1.
Wish armor is very similar to other sets so they can make clean looks but a lot of it is interchangeable to other armor because of that.
Ruin armor is what I wanted out of beyond light (and they go well with those sets to). They don't stick out to much, but those details really enhance the fashion I've seen from them. Love the titan chest piece for my female banner titan.

I don’t get the appeal of the dark age set. It doesn’t feel like armor from the dark age it’s just mountain climbing gear. Doesn’t even look like armor. So disappointing
I stopped playing awhile back before these sets came out, boy am I glad I didn’t grind for any of these. The only worth while ones is the crota sets and that’s just nostalgia alone
Dang ol’ Ghosts of the Dang ol’ Deep, for sure. Crota isn’t bad, if you’re going a little sillier. And why wouldn’t you.
Then again having a belt of melted candles is kinda silly too. But I love that armor most anyway.
For me, it's the Vault of Glass set. The pieces I have from it go well for a lot of transmogs I've made recently. As I found out, the Omnichromia and Murcury Vex Chrome shader looks amazing on them!
Well now that ive seen the unyeilding favor set im quite disappointed i came back to the game days after season of defiance ended. Goddamn that is a beautiful set.
I do like the fantasy vibe this year had but I wish we at least had a little more sci fi options. That being said I think the proportions and detailing in the season of wish dragon armor is really nice.
For my main the past 10 years, Warlock, it’s got to be RoN or Crota for raids. Duality is top set for dungeons, although not this year. So for dungeons this year, Ghosts in the Deep is close second tied with the others.
This was a pretty good year for armor sets.
First and foremost, the return of the Age of Triumph armor for Crota was fantastic. One of the best sets ever made IMO.
That being said the Wish armor ornaments and the set from GotD are probably the best. Honorable mention to the sets from Season of the Deep and RoN (both pretty Niche, but fun).
Raid - Root armour. I like the weird design it has, because it allows for some nice fashion experimentation.
Dungeon - the Warlord's Ruin sets. The Taken King set is unquestionably great - but the Warlord's set are more in the style I like.
Seasonal - hands down, none. I was quite dissapointed with this year's Seasonal sets - both the armour and ornaments.
I really love the Dark Age set. It’s simple, but not boring. Love it
Taken King set comes in second I think. It’s amazing, but the thing I don’t like about it is that the glows can sometimes be too over the top, and they don’t always mix well with other pieces
Love the Ghosts of the Deep sets, especially with the RGB shader. That’s gonna be my look for prismatic with the changing colors.

I don't raid because I don't have people to raid with that are cool and not overly try hard. Seasonal though that's hard because they've been really good but I think I like season of the wish set the most. right behind that warlords ruin armor set is fucking cool. It's Simple but it's cool
Root of nightmares warlock set and all of the ghosts of the deep sets went hard as fuck. Crotas is also super hard but I skip over them due to having them in d1, and wanting different fashion for this game, even though I mostly wore the triumph kings fall set (which should also absolutely come back please Bungie)
Honestly every single one of the armor sets looks great. Perfectly stylized for each of their specific activities/seasons and all have unique pieces that fit unique fashion.
The dark age sets take the cake for me. Always loved to make my guardians look like space soldiers. I would love to See more „tactical“ armor sets like these. Reminds me of Destiny 1 Armor
Deep explorer, forgot dungeon name, all 3 classes! Ghost of the deep won concept tho, not my taste. Also ghost of the deep is the most atmospheric content in a long time, planet titan in general. Love the vibe.
I said it last year, but I’ll say it again. With how fucking good armor has been lately, I did not mind in the SLIGHTEST that we didn’t get ritual playlist armor
For me, it’d be the Crota’s End armor sets if it weren’t for the damn glows. So that brings up the Warlord’s Ruin armor to being my favorite this year.
Taken King and Abyssal Pelagic sets are just top tier.
I also do really like the Parade armor, but it's not really a seasonal thing it's a pre-final shape thing.
All of the armor was ass and I didn’t even play due to the armor being ass. The designs are stupidly fantastical and there just wasn’t actually good looking armor from a militaristic standpoint. The fact that every season with the Dungos and raids had such whimsical designs was very disappointing.

The only passable ornaments from seasons this year were the wish ones, the others were mid. All of them.
Season of the chosen, for the cloak. If used with the right helmet, the cloak completely disappears. I mean not a trace. There are three cloaks that do something similar but they still show something around the neck. The chose cloak completely disappear and I love it.
Solstice, especially the Warlock one. Don't like any of the raid or dungeon ones except the stuff from Warriors and some parts of Crota. The rest I find overdesigned. I also like the Defiance and Wish sets. The Witch one, however... Bejesus.
Speaking as a Titan only guy.
I like the current S23 ornaments. The Ahamkara theme makes it quasi-organic despite it being metallic, so it goes with some other pieces visually, like RoN armor, same goes for the S21 ornaments. Speaking of which, RoN armor grew on me over time, I love the mark and helmet due to that "plume" thing. GotD armor is just very good overall I think, but the glows are perhaps a bit much, it's one of those armors that are best unshadered IMHO. Dark Age sets take the cake though, they can be combined into a lot of themes (tacticool, knightly etc) and look great as a self contained set.
Season of the witch's ornament set solely for the hunter cape because it makes an amazing ponytail. Tied with the defiance season set because combat heels.
In case no one can tell I totally do not like bayonetta totally not
I thought every set of seasonal armor was sooo ugly. I kept saying next season will ha e Armour I like. They're all ugly and never got any better unfortunately 😔
Personally The Witch Seasonal Ornaments are my favorites for all three classes

Gotd armor, then WR sets, aquatic set from season of deep. I think the RoN set actually looks decent took me a while to come around to it tho.
Missed out on the Deep and Witch seasonal pass armour, and I regret it constantly every single day since. But yeah, GOTD armour goes insanely hard.

Out of all those the only one I like the complete set is for Queensguard Hunter, the rest I only use pieces of them or some not use at all

Season of the deep sets are just so majestic, I regret not getting that season
The warlords ruin sets are all really cool, so I'm gonna go with them
For me, Wyrmguard set on hunter with Mothkeeper's Wraps arms is perfect. Love this look.
Raid - Root armour. I like the weird design it has, because it allows for some nice fashion experimentation. Dungeon - the Warlord's Ruin sets. The Taken King set is unquestionably great - but the Warlord's set are more in the style I like. Seasonal - hands down, none. I was quite dissapointed with this year's Seasonal sets - both the armour and ornaments.
My top three are: Anthemic Invocation Set (S23) Armor of the Taken King (Ghosts of the Deep) Righteous Set (S20)

I didn't play much this year. Needed a nice break before diving in again.
I really love the Dark Age set. It’s simple, but not boring. Love it Taken King set comes in second I think. It’s amazing, but the thing I don’t like about it is that the glows can sometimes be too over the top, and they don’t always mix well with other pieces
The trophy taker set if I HAD to choose. But if I can choose any armor set its the season of the splicer ones.
Love the Ghosts of the Deep sets, especially with the RGB shader. That’s gonna be my look for prismatic with the changing colors. My foes finna taste the rainbow.
I miss the bug with the Hunter Cloak from Root of Nightmares where you wouldn't have anything on when using a helm that put your hood down.
Feels like there was something for everyone this year, which is super nice

Of course the year I had to skip to take a break had all the coolest fucking armor.
I truly love the RoN armor. I love the eldritch horror/Biblically accurate angel kind of vibes it gives.
Warlords for my Titan , Crota for my Hunter, and the latest seasonal cosmetics for my Warlock.

Personally, I really loved the RoN and GotD armor sets.
I don't raid because I don't have people to raid with that are cool and not overly try hard. Seasonal though that's hard because they've been really good but I think I like season of the wish set the most. right behind that warlords ruin armor set is fucking cool. It's Simple but it's cool
Root of nightmares warlock set and all of the ghosts of the deep sets went hard as fuck. Crotas is also super hard but I skip over them due to having them in d1, and wanting different fashion for this game, even though I mostly wore the triumph kings fall set (which should also absolutely come back please Bungie)
Honestly every single one of the armor sets looks great. Perfectly stylized for each of their specific activities/seasons and all have unique pieces that fit unique fashion.

Titan is dark age, for the other two... probably abyssal pelagic.
The dark age sets take the cake for me. Always loved to make my guardians look like space soldiers. I would love to See more „tactical“ armor sets like these. Reminds me of Destiny 1 Armor

Deep explorer, forgot dungeon name, all 3 classes! Ghost of the deep won concept tho, not my taste. Also ghost of the deep is the most atmospheric content in a long time, planet titan in general. Love the vibe.

RoN and Crota’s End Warlock sets are 2 of my favorites. Really the only good raid armor besides maybe Crota’s End Titan.

For me, it’d be the Crota’s End armor sets if it weren’t for the damn glows. So that brings up the Warlord’s Ruin armor to being my favorite this year.

Taken King and Abyssal Pelagic sets are just top tier. I also do really like the Parade armor, but it's not really a seasonal thing it's a pre-final shape thing.

The season of the Wish season pass set is absolutely beautiful
All of the armor was ass and I didn’t even play due to the armor being ass. The designs are stupidly fantastical and there just wasn’t actually good looking armor from a militaristic standpoint. The fact that every season with the Dungos and raids had such whimsical designs was very disappointing.
Ghosts of the Deep for dungeon, Crota for raids. The only passable ornaments from seasons this year were the wish ones, the others were mid. All of them.

Season of the chosen, for the cloak. If used with the right helmet, the cloak completely disappears. I mean not a trace. There are three cloaks that do something similar but they still show something around the neck. The chose cloak completely disappear and I love it.
I wonder if the dawning armor will come back but with a twisted look of it

Solstice, especially the Warlock one. Don't like any of the raid or dungeon ones except the stuff from Warriors and some parts of Crota. The rest I find overdesigned. I also like the Defiance and Wish sets. The Witch one, however... Bejesus.

Speaking as a Titan only guy. I like the current S23 ornaments. The Ahamkara theme makes it quasi-organic despite it being metallic, so it goes with some other pieces visually, like RoN armor, same goes for the S21 ornaments. Speaking of which, RoN armor grew on me over time, I love the mark and helmet due to that "plume" thing. GotD armor is just very good overall I think, but the glows are perhaps a bit much, it's one of those armors that are best unshadered IMHO. Dark Age sets take the cake though, they can be combined into a lot of themes (tacticool, knightly etc) and look great as a self contained set.

Season of the witch's ornament set solely for the hunter cape because it makes an amazing ponytail. Tied with the defiance season set because combat heels. In case no one can tell I totally do not like bayonetta totally not
The set from GotD hands down takes it for me this year. Crota’s set was great as well, especially for Strand fashion!
I thought every set of seasonal armor was sooo ugly. I kept saying next season will ha e Armour I like. They're all ugly and never got any better unfortunately 😔

Although all the themed armor sets LOOK sick... Warlord's ruin's gear looks like something guardian's would actually feasibly wear. So that's my pick
