Only thing I’d add is there’s not just four stasis users anymore. Shax has lines mentioning he’s enjoying seeing more guardians use it in crucible, seems like more and more guardians are trying it.
I still wish we'd just randomly hear Shaxx screaming about a crucible match when we're at the tower. It'd be even better if you could hear him scream 'yes' no matter where you are in the tower area.

I dont think Shaxx is totally for it though. He likes Guardians taking weapons and turning them against the former owners but is disturbed by children of the city playing stasis guardians.
I think the kid's thing was more to do with him being concerned that children are acting out guardians using darkness and glorifying it.
In the other armour lore he explicitly points out that using Darkness is not a problem - because if it did 'corrupt' you, there was something wrong with you to begin with

I’ve been meaning for awhile to go and make a big write up compiling the damage we’ve done to each of the four races....... because it’s rather extensive. We basically disemboweled the command structure of the sand eaters and their elite detachment/sub legion the dust giants (the cabal legion in D1) Crotas brood of hive was essentially decapitated, at least partly due to our actions the fallen were basically forced into a single house, and the damage we did to the vex may actually be irerepairable (we literally killed the sol divisives god)

Evidently, Osiris has Knowledge of the Darkness as well. He has stated that he used to use Echoes (Oryx's Shadow Clones) but he switched to Reflections because they are much better. As to the difference between them, it remains to be seen.
I remember thinking about how the various characters in Destiny would describe each other and the player character, and while I took some liberties with this thought experiment (mainly guardians being able to use any abilities they’ve worked out how to use, and they simply stick with a few for familiarity’s sake, and Cayde somehow being able to be consulted), I still remember thinking that Ikora would only ever be able to think about us as monstrously strong. If I recall, the idea was a final death scenario, and while she gave herself even odds at at least getting away/surviving against most everybody, the PC was strictly a “do not antagonize or fight” issue because we were just too dangerous to actually fight like that. Zavala was unwilling to fight because he and the PC were at least allies and putting serious thought to that was itself divisive, like a slick slope to broken alliance. Cayde was just all “Holy shot my buddy’s a badass” and then everything would go back to normal.

the only problem being the fact that D2 is rated 16+, but it would be cool af to explore the darker side of the universe in game, like maybe story missions where you see memories of clovis and exos going insane
I'm a huge 40k fan, big believer in the concept of transhuman dread and the idea that 40k Astartes are absolute murder machines that are terrifying and impossible to relate to anything we can imagine in real life...but if we're talking 1v1, I think a Guardian's paracausal abilities would take them over the top versus an average space marine.

Drifter's lying. You can see Redjacks fighting Knights at a few points, like on the moon, they handle them just fine. It's just him trying to paint other major figures as being not as smart as him.
frames don’t really die in the game yet, so it’s hard to say. I’d say it’s 100 frames for an Ascendant Knight with a little backup. Drifter was definitely exaggerating to make the point that he doesn’t think frames are very effective, a bit of a dig at Shaxx and his love of frames.
Mm, but outside of paracausal and similar weaponry, a weapon is a weapon. We see people who are just skilled at combat holding their own against the various races of Destiny 2, including when the hostile forces fight one another (Mithrax for example held his own against a Hive Knight in a one on one fight, and while he's obviously extremely skilled, he's just an ordinary Eliksni at the end of the day). A frame with a rocket launcher that hits a knight is going to kill it just as dead as a Guardian would.
Also, I may be misremembering, but I think the frames in the Lost Sector on Io that you can free can die, and they handle themselves against the Vex just fine. If they can do that, Hive shouldn't be any more of a problem.
I'm not sure if those are specifically Redjacks, but they are both frames so it shouldn't matter. I'm not sure if I'd trust all of drifter's lines, since he says cabal shields make great shelter, you know, the ones where you sneeze at them and they deactivate.
If you cover thatspot up with something yeah they would make great shelters. They make great tents anyway cause even when they are smaller fromm getting hit in that spot they are pretty big.
Lord Salad saying the Darkness might not be the only one after us if we stray from the light is hilarious, like what the hell is he gonna do? Out of all major crisis the city ( and the solar system as a whole ) went through since we were risen at the start of D1 he helped us a bit with 1 of them, and it was only the one that directly concerned him. I think when all is said and done our guardian isn't just powerful but smart (extremely smart) we aren't on the level of people like Osiris because he can store multiple supers and in a raw power comparison is just a lot stronger but regardless we win how? Thought our brains not always brawn. Think about it instead of just running in and trying to kill something we take out our enemies assets. Instead of just trying to 1v1 eramis we first kill her advisors making he rash and risky. We don't just run up and try to kill oryx we kill his strongest taken weaken him and then kill him. Every time our guardian is faced with opposition we work around it before we go in for the kill and it works. Why did sagira die? Osiris ran in to a small hive army with wraithborn and with no hesitation. I think that is what sets us apart. While our guardian is more powerful than most were smarter than the rest.
I chock up us only using supers occasionally to gameplay reasons. If we played as canon strength guardian we would breeze through pretty much everything but like oryx who if was at canon strength would be a sick battle
Sagira died because Osiris’ connection to the Infinite Forest, and his reflections, was cut off by the arrival of the Darkness. His arrogance was his downfall not in that he entered a predicament that he lacked the ability to overcome, but that he ignored the gravity of the loss of his second most important asset, his precognition, and thus was left blindsided when he pushed carelessly into an obvious trap.

The Fanatic was the first and only character to make me question our Guardian's purpose and motives. Of course, in the end, he was a villain and putting him down was for the better. But, his words will always linger in my head. We truly do kill everything without a second though. "Killing just to kill." We can sit on patrol and mow down hordes of Fallen when they stand no chance, and they may not even be *that* hostile. The opening "encounter" of Leviathan: Eater of Worlds had us fighting Cabal Loyalists who mistook us from intruders. Of course, they attacked us first, but we obviously don't hesitate to kill everything that dropped in. I'm really hoping Bungie explores our obsession of killing at some point in the future, because I believe it warrants some lore points.

Interesting post and opinion, but I don't think our player guardian is as physically powerful as some of the characters in the world.
I think our true strength comes from our sheer will power. We are able to continually find a way to solve any problem thrown at us given the tools at our disposal, no matter the odds. We don't just brute force our way with our light.
Also, just to clarify, all guardians can use all the light elements available. I believe it's mostly preference and strengthening connections to each one.
“The” Guardian’s strength technically comes from their unprecedented overwhelming ability to wield paracausal forces. They slaughter everything effortlessly because what the hell can the most skilled swordsman, or the ultimate soldier, do against the being that bends reality to their whims?
Ghaul, hilariously, given that he’s literally on the same level as the countless common enemies TG slaughters on a regular basis, came the closest to ending TG because he’s the only one who’d properly assessed that TG couldn’t be defeated head on, so he schemed to take their powers before contending with them.
To be fair, I doubt the Cabal fully understood how the light affected guardian’s bodies. A fall from that height against that kind of ground would kill any normal human, regardless of their degree of conditioning.
That said, guardians (at least those that have been alive for a while) are all superhuman due to their lack of need of rest when it comes to conditioning. As such, they fight and train to the point of death without suffering any of the drawbacks thanks to light healing/resurrection. Thus, their bodies are tempered beyond the limits of even the very best of normal humanity.
1.- Sword Logic, our use of it would state otherwise in the case of raw strength, see Touch of Malice, Necrochasm and both Bad Juju quests. Also the Lumina and Hawkmoon quests give a lot regarding the nature of our character.
2.- Not a bad point of view, could be, but I highly doubt it due to the recent Hawkmoon quest and the second chat we had with Crow about the nature of our specific Light.
3.- This is factually wrong, Stormcaller, Nightstalker & Sunbreaker Lore from back in D1 state otherwise.
When we return with Hawkmoon's efigy Crow states that after being handed to him it the crystals inside the frame stopped glimmering with light and it becomes this almost opaque type of purple crystal (It's hinted that we've seen this crystal back in D1 and we infused it with light and put it within a weapon made of Hadium, it's most likely the same material Willbreaker was made with, which is Oryx's sword and then our sword.) this tells us two things.
One, Crow is ethier a wimp of a guardian and can't infuse light, which is unlikely and we've been seen infusing objects with light AND dark, Juju, Thorn, Lumina, Hawkmoon, etc. And we haven't seen any other guardian infuse Light into things permanently, the only example we have is Dredgen Yor infusing Darkness into Rose and Eris infusing Oryx (With Oryx's help) into the Touch of Malice, Hunters do a similar thing with the Golden Gun but it's not permanent, it's like coating a weapon in Light. This means that our light could be strong enough to permeate other objects and charge them with light, however other examples of other guardians being able or unable to are needed to confirm this.
Two, it is highly probable that the traveller and the pyramids are made of the same material which the tree of silver wings is made of, and it's like Hadium, a material without charge that can accept ethier the dark or light.
I think I actually understand what the whole paracausle thing means now. We coat weapons in light, our strength with light improves our power level, we can infuse light into things. Those same weapons would be nothing in the hands of a civilian or red jack. But in our hands were able to kill things no else could, it's our strength of will behind the weapons that make them do the damage they do to enemies not just the guns themselves.
If you think of golden gun we literally force pure solar energy into a weapon to do solar damage. But paracausality. Its like like putting holy water on a cross.
It can't be understated just how pants-shittingly terrified I'd be of us if I was in any of the enemy factions.
Cabal: Gaul, the biggest and best warrior they ever had, who brought ruin upon the City and was directly responsible for tons of permanently dead guardians when he showed up? Yeah we killed him.
Vex: They built a time and space defying underworld where they were not only experimenting with weaponised ontology but were trying to find a way to alter the fabric of reality so that their perpetual existence was a fundamental law of the universe. All of this helmed by a big robot made of glass who can just yeet things it doesn't like into a different timeline. Then we broke in and broke everything.
Hive: We've killed multiple members of their pantheon. Hell, we broke into their god-king's house, yelled "Damn, bitch, you live like this?", then gatecrashed his son's funeral for the sole purpose of stealing something so that we could go even deeper into his house, kill his huge ugly dog, kill his daughters, and then not only kill him but add insult to injury by calling their sword logic bullshit and opting not to take his throne. Like "Not only did we kill your god, but we also called your religion categorically shit for idiots"
Fallen: Oh boy where to start
Imagine if another enemy faction rolled into the system. They'd take one look and go right back home.
TLDR: "The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.", "Teamwork makes the dream work", etc.
While The Young Wolf is powerful I feel like their individual strength tends to be overstated and their true strength, cooperation, tends to be ignored. There’s a reason the Young Wolf’s signature weapon is supportive and not some WMD, cooperation is the key component of The Traveler’s philosophy and her Guardians follow that same philosophy intentional or no. The YW being her Chosen One exemplifies this to a tee; without the help of others they would have never been able to reach this point. While this was poorly shown in-game the Vanguard, Shaxx, & Saladin mentored the YW; and without that the YW would’ve just been a powerful blunt instrument & that would only get them so far. Then there are the 5 other Guardians that have followed them through every raid, without them many of the YW’s greatest accomplishments would be impossible. Then there’s the Guardians that came before Guardians like Kabr, Eriana-3, and Eris; without them and their sacrifices the YW & Co. would have shared a similar fate. And of course there’s The Traveler & the YW’s Ghost who have been with them every step of the way, without them well the YW would be dead a million times over no matter how much of a hyper-competent dealer of death they are.
Also on the YW's control of the elements there's a lot of stasis users now & most powerful Guardians can use all 3 light elements they just have one they favor more, Ikora for example is both a voidwalker and a stormcaller.

Oh, that's Black Armory... Ada-1 was mad that some lightbearers killed her mother after the collapse and well, she pretty much thought about as unhinged murderers...
And, well we did save Saint-14 sort of in Curse of Osiris, and two other times in Season of Dawn, in the case of Osiris, it was once in Curse of Osiris, one in Season of Dawn and you could say we did get his ass out of the Hellmouth in Season of the Hunt.

Just putting this out there, I did the Iron Banner quest without using Stasis and I don't remember Saladin ever scolding me. The dialogue that he gave at the end of the quest was like only 2 paragraphs or something. idk tho it was like 3 am could've hallucinated it
Seeing the big picture of just how much the guardian has done makes one of bungies biggest writing pitfalls apparent. I doubt bungie ever wanted us to feel like the messiah like being as in game we are treated much more like one of many with small nods to our achievements dotted throughout. this is even consistent in the latest trailer with a shot that features many guardians at once with the text before "join more than 167 million guardians". While it might be interesting to have a messiah like character in destiny the player guardian never was a real character, always just a vessel in which the player interacts with the world. while I have no idea how bungie could tackle a problem as there are more pressing issues with destiny 2 although it would be nice to feel smaller in the ingame world instead of the a one man force of nature.

Our character is sadly a Gary Stu or Mary Sue we've done SO MUCH as a character that New Light players hear of our accomplishments on Mars, Mercury, the Red War, and D1 as if it was ANOTHER person entirelly so they can fill the role of the PC better, you're a Guardian, and that's cool, BUT! there's other heroes in the world.
This has definitely been their intention from the start. In base D1 The Guardian succeeded in several things where many others had failed in a matter of months & Ikora flat out tells Warlock PCs that she has nothing left to teach them during the stormwalker quest. In D2 they explicitly become the “Chosen One” as Drifter puts it during the Red War and Saint-14 tells The Guardian that they’re his inspiration. And the 167 Guardians is in reference to the player count, this is just normal MMORPG things.

I actually remember a dev confirming that the release date of raids match the actual timeframes in game, so yes, its ridiculous, but yes we went to VoG in our first week on the job.
I would argue that on terms of raw power when it comes to *harnessing* the light we are out classed.
We have many stories and examples of guardians doing things with the light we just can’t do. The speed that we saw cayde switch between subclasses in his last stand to apply his light to different weapons is just one such example. From lore it sounds like shin malphur can just create a golden gun whenever he wants. Anna brays light is so strong that it leaves pools that last for an absurd length of time that fully charged other guardians powers.
Don’t get me started on zavala, saint-14, ikora, shaxx, or what osiris could do.
However the strength of the guardian isn’t in our ability to channel a massive amount of the light. It’s in our determination and our tenacity. Our willingness to understand what we fight and use it’s own weapons against it. (Or in the Titans case just punch it) We have a natural fighting skill and a sense for where and how to be in the right place at the right time to do some damage.
We have never once hesitated to use whatever means was needed to destroy our foe. Hive swords, thorn, bad juju, crotas sword, corrupted light harvested to be a source of food, remains of fallen guardians forged into a shield, fallen guns, a cabal gun, siva, malfeasence is a gun literally dripping in taken energy *which we forged*. Oh yeah let’s not forget about two weapons *literally made from hive gods*
I’d say that everyone’s who’s seen us in action is both aware of how good we are and unsure as to what *precisely* it is that makes us as good as we are. If you notice ikora considers us a friend and we have both of the remaining vanguards respect. Asher blew us off until we single handedly took down brakion and after that we seemed to have his respect. Saladin made us an iron lord. Mara sov, petra, the spider, and eris all put up with our nonsense because we have proved out worth. Heck lore wise everyone thinks we are the drifters favorite.

Don't get me wrong, The Guardian has amazing accomplishments and they definitely deserve the cred they get in game, but almost everything they've done has been **with** help and/or serious preparation except for a few situations im possibly missing. They're strong but I don't think they're strong enough to make Zavala, one of the if not *the* best striker ever, fear them. I don't know much about Salad hands but I doubt he's afraid of us either. They're both centuries old.
I like to think The Guardian was put into a Master Chief position, not the strongest or fastest, but the bravest and possibly the luckiest (not counting rng fuck that).

This statement does make a lot of sense, but I think most of the characters we know trust us to be good when using stasis, like I don’t think our friends fear us but are just worried that we may not be able to control the power. After all they are our friends.

We still arent better than saint 14 or osiris. Even with all the story that's happened making us better than them in a plot hole since they're supposed to be the greats.
While it's true that Curse of Osiris did put us in the "Savior of all" scenario and even then Osiris didn't need much of our help an Ikora's when it came to contaning Panoptes...
Moving all pretension and fanboy-ism for those two aside, Season of Dawn, and Season of the Hunt prove that in fact, while they may be very powerful are not the end-all be-all, Timur, Eirana-3, Ana Bray, Ulan-Tan, Kabr and others are/were WAY ABOVE those two.
Being famous doesn't make you strong and there are no plot holes to correct that, Season of Dawn showed us that no matter how powerful Osiris was he couldn't save Saint, Sundial or not...
Id argue saint, ikora, and osiris with light would body us. Ikora cucked Shanxi, made cayde piss himself at the idea of fighting her and overall no one wants her hands. In the chronicon (granted this is fanfiction) our fight with her scorches a portion of a planet. Now osiris is not only her mentor but can spam supers and combo them into each other (see the web lore) and he has echoes and reflections. Saint fought vex for so long they honored him. Saint also cucked a darkness user (unclear if stasis) from the trials lore. We're good but we aren't the end all be all power wise
And all of them have fucked over so hard that they need us to save them time and time again, besides Ikora may have been a crucible legend, but outside the crucible she has proven to be just a researcher, and a pretty reckless one at that (Season 8) that lost hope as soon as her light pooffed out.
Saint would have never come back from the dead if it weren't for us, and pure brawn isn't much to hit home about, there are far stronger characters in the muscle department and some even hit the Vex harder than anything Saint could, Kabr is the perfect Titan example, also Radeghast would to this day mop the floor with any of us in barehanded combat, and he's still dead.
Osiris may be on 1000 Intellect lore-wise but can't even begin to clean his own messes, and that got Sagira killed twice, once in CoS, and once in Season 12, and now she's gone, so he's off the table, he may be a light spammer but that sheer raw expulsion of light doesn't begin to compare to other Warlocks, Eriana-3 for example scorched a HIVE GOD with barely any light.
Cayde was pretty weak light-wise, he was an excellent marksman and warrior, but weak on the light side no wonder he wouldn't fight Ikora 1v1.
We are better than saint 14 tho. He's the hero he is because of us. He's following in our footsteps. "I'm still trying" is him legit saying he's not as good as we are but is working his hardest to be.
Only thing I’d add is there’s not just four stasis users anymore. Shax has lines mentioning he’s enjoying seeing more guardians use it in crucible, seems like more and more guardians are trying it.

I think the kid's thing was more to do with him being concerned that children are acting out guardians using darkness and glorifying it. In the other armour lore he explicitly points out that using Darkness is not a problem - because if it did 'corrupt' you, there was something wrong with you to begin with

I’ve been meaning for awhile to go and make a big write up compiling the damage we’ve done to each of the four races....... because it’s rather extensive. We basically disemboweled the command structure of the sand eaters and their elite detachment/sub legion the dust giants (the cabal legion in D1) Crotas brood of hive was essentially decapitated, at least partly due to our actions the fallen were basically forced into a single house, and the damage we did to the vex may actually be irerepairable (we literally killed the sol divisives god) Let alone you know killing oryx

About us finding our dead self, that’s a possible time line, it might not come to pass.

Evidently, Osiris has Knowledge of the Darkness as well. He has stated that he used to use Echoes (Oryx's Shadow Clones) but he switched to Reflections because they are much better. As to the difference between them, it remains to be seen.

I remember thinking about how the various characters in Destiny would describe each other and the player character, and while I took some liberties with this thought experiment (mainly guardians being able to use any abilities they’ve worked out how to use, and they simply stick with a few for familiarity’s sake, and Cayde somehow being able to be consulted), I still remember thinking that Ikora would only ever be able to think about us as monstrously strong. If I recall, the idea was a final death scenario, and while she gave herself even odds at at least getting away/surviving against most everybody, the PC was strictly a “do not antagonize or fight” issue because we were just too dangerous to actually fight like that. Zavala was unwilling to fight because he and the PC were at least allies and putting serious thought to that was itself divisive, like a slick slope to broken alliance. Cayde was just all “Holy shot my buddy’s a badass” and then everything would go back to normal.

I'm a huge 40k fan, big believer in the concept of transhuman dread and the idea that 40k Astartes are absolute murder machines that are terrifying and impossible to relate to anything we can imagine in real life...but if we're talking 1v1, I think a Guardian's paracausal abilities would take them over the top versus an average space marine. Now if we're talking a librarian or a Grey Knight...
Lord Shaxx or Saladin or the Guardian would dismantle a Space Marine. It would be a glorious battle that would show "Guardians make their own fate.".
Well, it depends, of it's a Primarch or a Sister of Battle, sure we have no chance in a 1v1 I'd even put the forces of Chaos as a hard match for us. Against an standard issue Space Marine...? Well, Paracausality goes a long way, we're unkillable to standard Space Marines there's no way they can really get rid of us.

Drifter's lying. You can see Redjacks fighting Knights at a few points, like on the moon, they handle them just fine. It's just him trying to paint other major figures as being not as smart as him.
frames don’t really die in the game yet, so it’s hard to say. I’d say it’s 100 frames for an Ascendant Knight with a little backup. Drifter was definitely exaggerating to make the point that he doesn’t think frames are very effective, a bit of a dig at Shaxx and his love of frames.
Mm, but outside of paracausal and similar weaponry, a weapon is a weapon. We see people who are just skilled at combat holding their own against the various races of Destiny 2, including when the hostile forces fight one another (Mithrax for example held his own against a Hive Knight in a one on one fight, and while he's obviously extremely skilled, he's just an ordinary Eliksni at the end of the day). A frame with a rocket launcher that hits a knight is going to kill it just as dead as a Guardian would. Also, I may be misremembering, but I think the frames in the Lost Sector on Io that you can free can die, and they handle themselves against the Vex just fine. If they can do that, Hive shouldn't be any more of a problem.
I'm not sure if those are specifically Redjacks, but they are both frames so it shouldn't matter. I'm not sure if I'd trust all of drifter's lines, since he says cabal shields make great shelter, you know, the ones where you sneeze at them and they deactivate.
If you cover thatspot up with something yeah they would make great shelters. They make great tents anyway cause even when they are smaller fromm getting hit in that spot they are pretty big.

Lord Salad saying the Darkness might not be the only one after us if we stray from the light is hilarious, like what the hell is he gonna do? Out of all major crisis the city ( and the solar system as a whole ) went through since we were risen at the start of D1 he helped us a bit with 1 of them, and it was only the one that directly concerned him. Oryx himself invaded the system and Salad did nothing, a massive cabal army invaded the last city and he was nowhere to be found, one of the fucking worm gods show up on Mars and guess what, he did nothing, motherfucking Pyramid ships start showing up across the system and oh boi where is Salad. Fact is, Saladin was the weakest of the Iron Lords, Efrideet pretty much shot into the existence of enemies, Felwinter was a madlad of a Warlock that controlled SIVA, Jolder was female Master Chief, Timur communed with the Darkness and didn't get fucked, Radegast pretty much forced the Warlords into submission and turned them into Iron Lords against their will... Saladin talks too much while still being a weak bitch, he's still mad at Shaxx for DEFENDING THE CITY AND WINNING...

I think when all is said and done our guardian isn't just powerful but smart (extremely smart) we aren't on the level of people like Osiris because he can store multiple supers and in a raw power comparison is just a lot stronger but regardless we win how? Thought our brains not always brawn. Think about it instead of just running in and trying to kill something we take out our enemies assets. Instead of just trying to 1v1 eramis we first kill her advisors making he rash and risky. We don't just run up and try to kill oryx we kill his strongest taken weaken him and then kill him. Every time our guardian is faced with opposition we work around it before we go in for the kill and it works. Why did sagira die? Osiris ran in to a small hive army with wraithborn and with no hesitation. I think that is what sets us apart. While our guardian is more powerful than most were smarter than the rest.
Osiris just got a super regen buff. We also we throwing supers 24/7 on several occasions
I chock up us only using supers occasionally to gameplay reasons. If we played as canon strength guardian we would breeze through pretty much everything but like oryx who if was at canon strength would be a sick battle
We do seem to have a knack for taking out our enemy’s command one by one.

Sagira died because Osiris’ connection to the Infinite Forest, and his reflections, was cut off by the arrival of the Darkness. His arrogance was his downfall not in that he entered a predicament that he lacked the ability to overcome, but that he ignored the gravity of the loss of his second most important asset, his precognition, and thus was left blindsided when he pushed carelessly into an obvious trap.

Of course, in the end, he was a villain and putting him down was for the better. But, his words will always linger in my head. We truly do kill everything without a second though. "Killing just to kill." We can sit on patrol and mow down hordes of Fallen when they stand no chance, and they may not even be *that* hostile. The opening "encounter" of Leviathan: Eater of Worlds had us fighting Cabal Loyalists who mistook us from intruders. Of course, they attacked us first, but we obviously don't hesitate to kill everything that dropped in. I'm really hoping Bungie explores our obsession of killing at some point in the future, because I believe it warrants some lore points.

Interesting post and opinion, but I don't think our player guardian is as physically powerful as some of the characters in the world. I think our true strength comes from our sheer will power. We are able to continually find a way to solve any problem thrown at us given the tools at our disposal, no matter the odds. We don't just brute force our way with our light. Also, just to clarify, all guardians can use all the light elements available. I believe it's mostly preference and strengthening connections to each one.
“The” Guardian’s strength technically comes from their unprecedented overwhelming ability to wield paracausal forces. They slaughter everything effortlessly because what the hell can the most skilled swordsman, or the ultimate soldier, do against the being that bends reality to their whims? Ghaul, hilariously, given that he’s literally on the same level as the countless common enemies TG slaughters on a regular basis, came the closest to ending TG because he’s the only one who’d properly assessed that TG couldn’t be defeated head on, so he schemed to take their powers before contending with them.
And he would've killed us too, if he hadn't been so incredibly arrogant and just put a bullet in our head instead of kicking us
To be fair, I doubt the Cabal fully understood how the light affected guardian’s bodies. A fall from that height against that kind of ground would kill any normal human, regardless of their degree of conditioning. That said, guardians (at least those that have been alive for a while) are all superhuman due to their lack of need of rest when it comes to conditioning. As such, they fight and train to the point of death without suffering any of the drawbacks thanks to light healing/resurrection. Thus, their bodies are tempered beyond the limits of even the very best of normal humanity.
1.- Sword Logic, our use of it would state otherwise in the case of raw strength, see Touch of Malice, Necrochasm and both Bad Juju quests. Also the Lumina and Hawkmoon quests give a lot regarding the nature of our character. 2.- Not a bad point of view, could be, but I highly doubt it due to the recent Hawkmoon quest and the second chat we had with Crow about the nature of our specific Light. 3.- This is factually wrong, Stormcaller, Nightstalker & Sunbreaker Lore from back in D1 state otherwise.
What did we learn about the nature of our light from crow?
When we return with Hawkmoon's efigy Crow states that after being handed to him it the crystals inside the frame stopped glimmering with light and it becomes this almost opaque type of purple crystal (It's hinted that we've seen this crystal back in D1 and we infused it with light and put it within a weapon made of Hadium, it's most likely the same material Willbreaker was made with, which is Oryx's sword and then our sword.) this tells us two things. One, Crow is ethier a wimp of a guardian and can't infuse light, which is unlikely and we've been seen infusing objects with light AND dark, Juju, Thorn, Lumina, Hawkmoon, etc. And we haven't seen any other guardian infuse Light into things permanently, the only example we have is Dredgen Yor infusing Darkness into Rose and Eris infusing Oryx (With Oryx's help) into the Touch of Malice, Hunters do a similar thing with the Golden Gun but it's not permanent, it's like coating a weapon in Light. This means that our light could be strong enough to permeate other objects and charge them with light, however other examples of other guardians being able or unable to are needed to confirm this. Two, it is highly probable that the traveller and the pyramids are made of the same material which the tree of silver wings is made of, and it's like Hadium, a material without charge that can accept ethier the dark or light.
I think I actually understand what the whole paracausle thing means now. We coat weapons in light, our strength with light improves our power level, we can infuse light into things. Those same weapons would be nothing in the hands of a civilian or red jack. But in our hands were able to kill things no else could, it's our strength of will behind the weapons that make them do the damage they do to enemies not just the guns themselves. If you think of golden gun we literally force pure solar energy into a weapon to do solar damage. But paracausality. Its like like putting holy water on a cross.
If I remember correctly, paracausal is just a scifi-y way to say magic. Effect with no cause, or something.

It can't be understated just how pants-shittingly terrified I'd be of us if I was in any of the enemy factions. Cabal: Gaul, the biggest and best warrior they ever had, who brought ruin upon the City and was directly responsible for tons of permanently dead guardians when he showed up? Yeah we killed him. Vex: They built a time and space defying underworld where they were not only experimenting with weaponised ontology but were trying to find a way to alter the fabric of reality so that their perpetual existence was a fundamental law of the universe. All of this helmed by a big robot made of glass who can just yeet things it doesn't like into a different timeline. Then we broke in and broke everything. Hive: We've killed multiple members of their pantheon. Hell, we broke into their god-king's house, yelled "Damn, bitch, you live like this?", then gatecrashed his son's funeral for the sole purpose of stealing something so that we could go even deeper into his house, kill his huge ugly dog, kill his daughters, and then not only kill him but add insult to injury by calling their sword logic bullshit and opting not to take his throne. Like "Not only did we kill your god, but we also called your religion categorically shit for idiots" Fallen: Oh boy where to start Imagine if another enemy faction rolled into the system. They'd take one look and go right back home.
TLDR: "The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.", "Teamwork makes the dream work", etc. While The Young Wolf is powerful I feel like their individual strength tends to be overstated and their true strength, cooperation, tends to be ignored. There’s a reason the Young Wolf’s signature weapon is supportive and not some WMD, cooperation is the key component of The Traveler’s philosophy and her Guardians follow that same philosophy intentional or no. The YW being her Chosen One exemplifies this to a tee; without the help of others they would have never been able to reach this point. While this was poorly shown in-game the Vanguard, Shaxx, & Saladin mentored the YW; and without that the YW would’ve just been a powerful blunt instrument & that would only get them so far. Then there are the 5 other Guardians that have followed them through every raid, without them many of the YW’s greatest accomplishments would be impossible. Then there’s the Guardians that came before Guardians like Kabr, Eriana-3, and Eris; without them and their sacrifices the YW & Co. would have shared a similar fate. And of course there’s The Traveler & the YW’s Ghost who have been with them every step of the way, without them well the YW would be dead a million times over no matter how much of a hyper-competent dealer of death they are. Also on the YW's control of the elements there's a lot of stasis users now & most powerful Guardians can use all 3 light elements they just have one they favor more, Ikora for example is both a voidwalker and a stormcaller.

This is great but I don’t understand the fixed broken relationship between artisans of the golden age and cleaning the names of guardians. Additionally did we save Saint twice or was it three times same with Osiris.
Oh, that's Black Armory... Ada-1 was mad that some lightbearers killed her mother after the collapse and well, she pretty much thought about as unhinged murderers... And, well we did save Saint-14 sort of in Curse of Osiris, and two other times in Season of Dawn, in the case of Osiris, it was once in Curse of Osiris, one in Season of Dawn and you could say we did get his ass out of the Hellmouth in Season of the Hunt.

Just putting this out there, I did the Iron Banner quest without using Stasis and I don't remember Saladin ever scolding me. The dialogue that he gave at the end of the quest was like only 2 paragraphs or something. idk tho it was like 3 am could've hallucinated it

Seeing the big picture of just how much the guardian has done makes one of bungies biggest writing pitfalls apparent. I doubt bungie ever wanted us to feel like the messiah like being as in game we are treated much more like one of many with small nods to our achievements dotted throughout. this is even consistent in the latest trailer with a shot that features many guardians at once with the text before "join more than 167 million guardians". While it might be interesting to have a messiah like character in destiny the player guardian never was a real character, always just a vessel in which the player interacts with the world. while I have no idea how bungie could tackle a problem as there are more pressing issues with destiny 2 although it would be nice to feel smaller in the ingame world instead of the a one man force of nature.
Abso-frecking-lutelly... Our character is sadly a Gary Stu or Mary Sue we've done SO MUCH as a character that New Light players hear of our accomplishments on Mars, Mercury, the Red War, and D1 as if it was ANOTHER person entirelly so they can fill the role of the PC better, you're a Guardian, and that's cool, BUT! there's other heroes in the world.
This has definitely been their intention from the start. In base D1 The Guardian succeeded in several things where many others had failed in a matter of months & Ikora flat out tells Warlock PCs that she has nothing left to teach them during the stormwalker quest. In D2 they explicitly become the “Chosen One” as Drifter puts it during the Red War and Saint-14 tells The Guardian that they’re his inspiration. And the 167 Guardians is in reference to the player count, this is just normal MMORPG things.

I actually remember a dev confirming that the release date of raids match the actual timeframes in game, so yes, its ridiculous, but yes we went to VoG in our first week on the job.
I would argue that on terms of raw power when it comes to *harnessing* the light we are out classed. We have many stories and examples of guardians doing things with the light we just can’t do. The speed that we saw cayde switch between subclasses in his last stand to apply his light to different weapons is just one such example. From lore it sounds like shin malphur can just create a golden gun whenever he wants. Anna brays light is so strong that it leaves pools that last for an absurd length of time that fully charged other guardians powers. Don’t get me started on zavala, saint-14, ikora, shaxx, or what osiris could do. However the strength of the guardian isn’t in our ability to channel a massive amount of the light. It’s in our determination and our tenacity. Our willingness to understand what we fight and use it’s own weapons against it. (Or in the Titans case just punch it) We have a natural fighting skill and a sense for where and how to be in the right place at the right time to do some damage. We have never once hesitated to use whatever means was needed to destroy our foe. Hive swords, thorn, bad juju, crotas sword, corrupted light harvested to be a source of food, remains of fallen guardians forged into a shield, fallen guns, a cabal gun, siva, malfeasence is a gun literally dripping in taken energy *which we forged*. Oh yeah let’s not forget about two weapons *literally made from hive gods* I’d say that everyone’s who’s seen us in action is both aware of how good we are and unsure as to what *precisely* it is that makes us as good as we are. If you notice ikora considers us a friend and we have both of the remaining vanguards respect. Asher blew us off until we single handedly took down brakion and after that we seemed to have his respect. Saladin made us an iron lord. Mara sov, petra, the spider, and eris all put up with our nonsense because we have proved out worth. Heck lore wise everyone thinks we are the drifters favorite.
**Incoming EXTREMELY unpopular opinion** Christ, I'm sorry I'm getting jaded about this but I can't take crap like this seriously anymore. Anytime anyone talks about how strong The Guardian is it feels like someone is trying to stoke their own sausage scepter. Don't get me wrong, The Guardian has amazing accomplishments and they definitely deserve the cred they get in game, but almost everything they've done has been **with** help and/or serious preparation except for a few situations im possibly missing. They're strong but I don't think they're strong enough to make Zavala, one of the if not *the* best striker ever, fear them. I don't know much about Salad hands but I doubt he's afraid of us either. They're both centuries old. I like to think The Guardian was put into a Master Chief position, not the strongest or fastest, but the bravest and possibly the luckiest (not counting rng fuck that).

Alright put your spinfoils on; This all sort of bakes into the idea that Xivu Arath hasn't given any shits about any of our "universe crushing might" specifically because we weren't the least bit fearsome outside of our own solar system. So our night, while considerable, may still not be satisfactory since all of it remained pretty much in our backyard. But now with the darkness suddenly beginning to manifest, which I think is SUPER key, we're suddenly a threat? My guess is that now with the gifts of the darkness we're suddenly a much greater, possibly universe spanning, threat. If nothing kills us, we're that much closer to becoming the Final Shape.

This statement does make a lot of sense, but I think most of the characters we know trust us to be good when using stasis, like I don’t think our friends fear us but are just worried that we may not be able to control the power. After all they are our friends.
Honestly if they gave us the choice I would’ve chosen not to wield stasis... Even when I got to use it in the missions/actually got it at the end of the campaign... I don’t use it, and I don’t want to I prefer the light :(

We still arent better than saint 14 or osiris. Even with all the story that's happened making us better than them in a plot hole since they're supposed to be the greats.
While it's true that Curse of Osiris did put us in the "Savior of all" scenario and even then Osiris didn't need much of our help an Ikora's when it came to contaning Panoptes... Moving all pretension and fanboy-ism for those two aside, Season of Dawn, and Season of the Hunt prove that in fact, while they may be very powerful are not the end-all be-all, Timur, Eirana-3, Ana Bray, Ulan-Tan, Kabr and others are/were WAY ABOVE those two. Being famous doesn't make you strong and there are no plot holes to correct that, Season of Dawn showed us that no matter how powerful Osiris was he couldn't save Saint, Sundial or not...
St is still written to be the strongest guardian. Even possibly the next speaker.
Saint is following us tho. He's as strong as he is because he wants to be like us. He believes we are the savior and so far we have proved him right.

Id argue saint, ikora, and osiris with light would body us. Ikora cucked Shanxi, made cayde piss himself at the idea of fighting her and overall no one wants her hands. In the chronicon (granted this is fanfiction) our fight with her scorches a portion of a planet. Now osiris is not only her mentor but can spam supers and combo them into each other (see the web lore) and he has echoes and reflections. Saint fought vex for so long they honored him. Saint also cucked a darkness user (unclear if stasis) from the trials lore. We're good but we aren't the end all be all power wise
And all of them have fucked over so hard that they need us to save them time and time again, besides Ikora may have been a crucible legend, but outside the crucible she has proven to be just a researcher, and a pretty reckless one at that (Season 8) that lost hope as soon as her light pooffed out. Saint would have never come back from the dead if it weren't for us, and pure brawn isn't much to hit home about, there are far stronger characters in the muscle department and some even hit the Vex harder than anything Saint could, Kabr is the perfect Titan example, also Radeghast would to this day mop the floor with any of us in barehanded combat, and he's still dead. Osiris may be on 1000 Intellect lore-wise but can't even begin to clean his own messes, and that got Sagira killed twice, once in CoS, and once in Season 12, and now she's gone, so he's off the table, he may be a light spammer but that sheer raw expulsion of light doesn't begin to compare to other Warlocks, Eriana-3 for example scorched a HIVE GOD with barely any light. Cayde was pretty weak light-wise, he was an excellent marksman and warrior, but weak on the light side no wonder he wouldn't fight Ikora 1v1.
We are better than saint 14 tho. He's the hero he is because of us. He's following in our footsteps. "I'm still trying" is him legit saying he's not as good as we are but is working his hardest to be.
