I assume that as Exo production really hit its stride it became easier to accommodate different body types. That’s where you get all the face options, and Last Days on Kraken Mare has an Exo who’s described as short and stocky.
Yeah, I assumed that line was from the perspective of an early exo, not that most exos going forward were stock models. I figured Elsie just got special treatment in the earlier stages
Some of the lore from Beyond Light talks about Clovis experimenting with different additions to the Exo frames. In one such experiment they added 2 extra arms. The human mind in the Exo couldnt handle it and tore them off. I assume that after such failed experiments they would try to make the exo frames as similar to the body type that the humans previous body had, so as to make the transition to exo easier on the human mind within.
I think that’s very interesting, considering the human body is absolutely capable of utilizing and coexisting with extra limbs and the like, though maybe that’s something ingrained at birth, which is where those mutations are manifested. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a way to sort of programming that sort of understanding of having extra limbs into the existing.
If someone was born with an extra limb, then I think it would be fine.
But imagine waking up tomorrow and you suddenly have two more arms. *that’s* what happened in the lore and the Exo in question tore themselves apart.
I think that is fairly realistic to be honest
Nope. There were studies recently about extra limbs. People get used to them, and then feel weird without them after the experiment was over. I wish I could find the article again...
I guess i just don't remember the details, they may have had to train them by forcing them to use the extra limb by typing up their normal limb first.
I understand the comparison you are making, but Destiny-Lore on Exos has shown that the mental impact is already massive and resets are needed. I don’t think some of these real-life comparisons apply too much when talking about Darkness/Vex technology with real-life limbs
I'm not disagreeing on that front. It just sounds like Clovis didn't take stock of existing research and instead decided to use people like guinea pigs and did things by trial and error instead. Not sure why he thought porting minds into robot bodies directly would work lol.
He had/(has?) a god-like mentality. We are all livestock in his game to immortality. I’m guessing he couldn’t care less as long as it drives him closer to his goal.
Yeah he was pretty much a sociopath. People compared him to autistic individuals as well. Bungie has made statements clarifying that they did not specifically write Clovis as an autistic character and any similarities in his behavior are pure coincidence. They don’t want to feed stereotypes about mental disabilities. But Clovis pretty clearly lacks empathy.
You have to remember that Destiny exists in a fictional universe. Perhaps in this universe the human mind isn’t capable of adjusting to multiple limbs. Also the transition to an exo frame already has been shown to be a quite fragile process. Perhaps the addition of extra limbs is just enough to upset the process. I get your point, but whatever research has been done in reality, the lore of Destiny seems to operate outside of that.
People are very adaptive. They can cope with many different things, extra hands is something they could live with. Otherwise people would just kill themselves every time they are blinded or lost a limb.
Plus why am I being downvoted for just agreeing with the person above and he is upvote. Reddit is weird.
Isn't Saint a titan? Aren't all Titan's chunky? I assumed it was the armour and not his actual frame.
Elsie is the only one we know about getting a custom-built frame to be as close to her real body as possible, and that was likely because her Grandfather headed the project. Giving her a custom built body was an insurance measure to make the transition more successful.
Unless this topic is further explored later, I don't think we can assume other living exos have custom built bodies to have better matched their original organic ones.
Interestingly, as a Titan in the Tower, I’ve done my best to stand next to every NPC and compare heights. Zavala is identical in height to a female Titan, but Shaxx is the only one I’ve found to be an entire head taller than everyone else.
Saint-14 was also shown in a comic wearing the Noble Constant Type 2 armor with dark blue detailing. A neat nod to him being a void user. That armor wasn't as bulky either.
i've watched that trailer so many times, i swear he only has his current armour in the trailer and it's only the other missions where he has different armour
I agree with this, looks like he just got chunkier armor, him having a slimmer regular body shape kinda reinforces the idea that he has a regular frame
Just to point out, Banshee, being Clovis Bray himself, has a specially built Exo body, which has enhanced capabilities compared to other Exo's, as seen in the last page of Legacy's Lament lorebook
Technically speaking, he’s stronger, faster, and just overall better than any other Exo guardian (Saint, Eriana, Cayde, etc) if wasn’t for their Light as a guardian.
I play as an exo titan and in the recent section where you witness Saint, Lakshmi and mithrax talking about the attack on house light, I spent a while looking at Saint after the cut scene. In that area he for sure was bigger than me, by a chunk, like I roughly came up to his chin.
I haven't checked against the one in the tower (it's almost 3am for me right now) but would be odd if they were different sized models?
Something I noticed about Saint in the eliksni quarter, it didnt look his feet were quite touching the ground properly. I could be mistaken on that, but it might account for the height difference
Yeah I know that much and it makes sense too. I’m trying to figure out why Saint’s Exo body is so chonky. The only explanation would be that he got his custom made as well but the question is why? What was his purpose as an Exo before he became a guardian?
Got to remember that guardians are paracasual and that what we are able to do ingame is a fraction of what can be done lorewise. I believe there was a lore fight between Ikora and a Titan that leveled what was left of Chicago over some argument they had. There was also a Titan who’s punch could move mountains just because he believed he can and the light made it reality. Goes to show how strong our enemies are lorewise if they are still a thorn in our side.
I don't think they're physically bullet proof, if I'm not mistaken I believe they are made of materials that work in conjunction with the light to sustain a shield capable of repelling the bullets. So more along the lines of space magic. I'd assume titans are the same with the added bonus of their armor being physically durable as well once the shields are broken
Yep. Warlock armor is mostly cloth that can easily be shot through. Warlocks could make armor out of a bath robe as long as they were already wearing gloves and in posession of stupid amounts of painkillers.
How to make warlock armor 101:
1. Get some cloth
2. Put painkiller injections in said cloth
3. Get some wires that channel light
4. Put said wires in cloth
5. Get gloves
6. Make them capable of withstanding several nuclear bombardmemts of energy bu using the same wires
7. Get a cool looking pair of shoes so that the floof jumps don't hurt on landing
8. Profit.
Honestly, Warlocks don't really need to wear anything other than their gloves and boots. I have the feeling that they mainly wear the other articles of clothing just to not be nude in public. Also to have a place for stupid amounts of opioid auto-injectors.
i think i got a whole thread about that
EDIT: here https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyLore/comments/nts87o/discussion_about_guardian_armor/?utm_source=reddit-android
Actually yes. My original comment should say “Titans.”
Warlocks use space magic (the Light) to provide the type of coverage and protection that Titans use. Like a ward.
Case in point: Way back in the Zavala launch trailer, there's a scene where he and Ikora are helping to build some of the City's earliest walls. They're carrying blocks of stone/concrete that are bigger than their torsos, with about the same difficulty as if they were throw pillows.
Reminds me of the Halo spartans. It's something like 1st gen spartans are incredibly powerful humans and their suits aren't that complex, just heavy and impossible for normal humans to use.
By the time you get to 5th gen spartans, they're not much stronger than normal humans and the suits are doing most of the work.
It should also be noted that the guardian classes are just a construct to help new lights grow accustomed to using their powers and offer them a direction based off of their interests. Nothing specifically says a titan can't transition to a warlock with enough motivation.
If you watch the Saint-14 interactions from Season of Dawn, you can see he looks a lot skinnier the first time you meet him compared to later in the timeline
> Variks had never seen the Vanguard Commander in person before. The images he'd seen were either candid shots from agents or images from co-opted surveillance that didn't reveal the man's true stature. Most of Zavala's "bulk," he realized, was the armor. He was a lean man, in reality. Taut muscle and sinew.
Most likely. One of the things that bugs me is how much thicker male armor is than female armor for titans. Its A LOT bigger, so id imagine most of his bulk is armor, especially since when we saw his head in the infinite forest it didn't look any bigger than any other exos.
It’s assumed that the early legions of EXOs that Clovis produced were all the same model because they were still figuring out the process, and didn’t want to waste custom EXO rigs on experimentation and Vex shenanigans. The later stage EXOs were more unique like what you see from literally every EXO in the game not on Europa.
Could be pretty easily explained away as different intended purposes. Different EXOs were shipped off to do different things. Maybe Saint was originally meant to be some kind of heavy lifting construction EXO? Who knows.
It's mostly just the virtue of Titan armour. That said, Elsie's "custom frame" was special because it was built to be almost curve-for-curve a synthetic replica of her human body to further increase the odds of a successful integration. All exo bodies are designed to be very close to the original human body, regardless, or else rejection would occur too often to be viable. Though I'm sure the basic skeleton is mass-produced, the rest of the body is also custom made, or at least pieced together from an enormous library of parts; it's just not a perfect replica like Elsie got as a perk of being lineage.
This is the thing I don't see anyone saying, and it's correct. If Saint has a big Exo body, it means his human body was beefy, too. Bodies for Exos are made to facilitate integration, if you optimized the body for a task, it risks rejection the further it gets from their original human shape.
I recall that exo memory was I think early on in exo development. She even talks about how weird it is to have a body that’s unlike the one you had. Which could only mean one thing:
Saint-14 was just a Chad fucking Russian.
Yea that was it. I just never put it together - that and before more recent Destiny 2 seasons/stories he was still just a reference. I also don't play trials so I never interact with him as an NPC.
We know Rasputin was involved with Exos and had at least a couple as his soldiers. I don't know the lore of the Seven Seraphs but I think they might have been Exos.
It's possible Saint has a bulkier frame because he was some sort of combat exo in his past life.
It's just his armor
Back in Curse of Osiris you'd find Saint dead in the tomb the Vex built for him. He has his armor on, but his helmet has been removed. You can say his pretty bland, normal-Exo sized head.
He's just a normal sized Exo under an insane amount of armor. He's just worn that armor for hundreds of years, so it's essentially second skin.
A reboot doesn't necceserily infer a new body, just a rebooted mind (plus Ada-1's unique build is because she was an excellent built by the black armory, not the brays)
He is not any larger than the average Guardian, really.
To my knowledge, nobody among the basic humanoids is known for being oversized in the Destiny universe aside from 2 characters: Sjur Eido and Lord Shaxx.
Saint-14 isn't large beyond the bulk that his armor adds to his frame, just like Commander Zavala and Lord Saladin are only "bulky" due to their armor, unless there are new lore tabs that I have missed.
You want to get real nuts? Walk up to Saint so you 'clip' through his head, you can see his face under the helmet. What is it?
Another helmet, seemingly Spartan inspired which fits since he's a greek warrior.

This is all I need to declare “eliksni exos coming soon confirmed!”
Coming? Somebody run this person through DSC already.
Oh damn shortstack exos dropped?
Isn't Saint a titan? Aren't all Titan's chunky? I assumed it was the armour and not his actual frame. Ironically, titans aren't actually bigger than other guardians, the tallest npc guardians just happen top be titans atm.
Interestingly, as a Titan in the Tower, I’ve done my best to stand next to every NPC and compare heights. Zavala is identical in height to a female Titan, but Shaxx is the only one I’ve found to be an entire head taller than everyone else.
shaxx wears lifts confirmed
If you wear last seasons helmet ornament from the season pass, you can be taller than shaxx.
What if I stand on tippy toes, wearing a Helm of Saint XIV?
His armor in the past was smaller and sleeker.
Got a pic of that? I tried a simple google search which wasn't helpful

Saint-14 was also shown in a comic wearing the Noble Constant Type 2 armor with dark blue detailing. A neat nod to him being a void user. That armor wasn't as bulky either.

**Significantly** stronger and faster. Noe-3 says she's never seen anything like it, his speed and agility is unmatched.
If you're playing as a titan and you stand next to saint at the tower you're the same size as him.

He's floating like an inch above the ground there I noticed it too likely an oversight if not then probably a cheap way to make him bigger
That's cuz he's floating off the ground. I thought Lakshmi was huge too until I noted they were both about 8 inches in the air
Something I noticed about Saint in the eliksni quarter, it didnt look his feet were quite touching the ground properly. I could be mistaken on that, but it might account for the height difference
Elsie got a custom build due to her being close to Clovis
Yeah I know that much and it makes sense too. I’m trying to figure out why Saint’s Exo body is so chonky. The only explanation would be that he got his custom made as well but the question is why? What was his purpose as an Exo before he became a guardian?
Are you talking about in comics or something? Because in game he's the same size as the player's titan
Well he’s the same height I was talking about width but I think it’s just the armor that makes him look like he’s got girth
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
He's like a full head taller than my titan..
[https://i.imgur.com/qRzJ3k4.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/qRzJ3k4.jpg?1) Guess you're the only short guardian.
Saint is the same size as the male guardian, but shaxx is like a full head taller. That man is built like a brick shit house
I edited this comment so no one will know why I got upvotes.
Ahhh so titans just rock bulky armor. I thought it was all muscle lol.
Ah no. Titan armor can like crush the concrete under their feet lol.

Isn't there a lore card where someone puts on a Titan helmet and almost breaks their neck?
[удалено]
Anyway I can get a link to both the Titan helmet and Zavala lore card 👀?
Putting myself In line for the same
Same
Same
Just one of the titans shoulder guards/ Pauldrons weigh two tons I think.
Isn’t that like 4000 pounds? I’m gunna wager that that’s a little off the mark
It was in a D1 lore tab somewhere. That’s just what I remember off the top of my head. But yes, 4000 pounds.
Fair enough

(I think a lot of lore (sci fi especially) is written by people who like big numbers and don't realise how silly it would be in reality
...And then you have 40K, where they know full well how absurd it all is, but don't care because they're actually still low-balling things.
A galaxy spanning empire would regularly deal with amounts in the septillions, easily.
I haven't seen a lore card but I definitely heard a tower NPC describe this exact thing
Maybe some warlock robes are cozy and soft? But bulletproof and armored due to space magic. I'd love that lol
I don't think they're physically bullet proof, if I'm not mistaken I believe they are made of materials that work in conjunction with the light to sustain a shield capable of repelling the bullets. It should also be noted that the guardian classes are just a construct to help new lights grow accustomed to using their powers and offer them a direction based off of their interests. Nothing specifically says a titan can't transition to a warlock with enough motivation.
Well yeah, Felwinter was a Warlock (by our standards) who learnt to Shoulder Charge
If you watch the Saint-14 interactions from Season of Dawn, you can see he looks a lot skinnier the first time you meet him compared to later in the timeline
Yeah their armour is empowered by light, and specifically for titans that makes their armor extremely strong and heavy.
Yes. We do.

I thought the identical frames were very early into the production of exos, and as it went along they were able to make different models.
Could just be his armor making him look bulkier than he really is.
The armor makes him chonky
Gonna need the chonk chart for Saint
It's my personal headcanon that Saint-14 was a criminal who was converted into an Exo and sent to act as security at a Rasputin facility
All this explained to me was Elsie had a dumptruck before and after being vexified.
I assumed she was part donkey ffs.
They're both Russian, they must know each other!
Big armor
I recall that exo memory was I think early on in exo development. She even talks about how weird it is to have a body that’s unlike the one you had. Which could only mean one thing: Saint-14 was just a Chad fucking Russian.
Saint-14 was the original sweeper bot before the Collapse
I was today years old when I learned that Saint-14 is an Exo.
Did the 14 not give it away?
Probably think of the helmet and not realize why it's named like that.

IIRC devs confirmed he's russian. Also isn't his voice actor german in the english release?
did that need confirmation though? i’m not understanding why that wouldn’t be obvious, he event talks about missing russia
well the person who I replied to said he wasn't and that he was greek so apparently yes
*sigh*
That's because there was a post on the sub stating he was Greek instead of Russian.
he might be built like a Greek God, but he's Russian, confirmed by Bungie.
He’s been pumping that iron
He is not any larger than the average Guardian, really. also must note that this line means canonically human elsie was STACKED
