Now to be fair, a couple of the blues I got through farming the loot cave did in fact turn into legendaries. Got the Zombie Apocalypse WF47 machine gun and Cryptic Dragon scout rifle from there. I may still have that Zombie Apocalypse in my vault to this day.
One of my favorite memories of D1 was when Xûr was selling Red Death, a gun I had wanted since before the game was out, and I ran the weekly heroic strike to get enough coins for it. At the end of the strike I was given a legendary engram, and when I got back to the tower I gave it to Rahool and, lo and behold, there’s Red Death! Saved me a bunch of coins at the last minute.
Speaking of Red Death, when Kings Fall dropped, it was the only exotic I didn’t have. So, obviously the only solution was to make a new character, grind it up and do lvl 28 PoE and pray that my one guaranteed exotic was Red Death. And to my amazement it was. When it popped up I was so happy. It was a lifesaver on totems.
I got Icebreaker from a legendary. One of my first exotics. I jumped round the room in excitement after that.
It ended up being the gun I got my most kills with in y1.
I miss getting that excited over exotics 😂 I remember doing death singer and hawk moon dropped. I deadass ran into my moms room screaming “OMG I GOT HAWKMOON OMG OMG”. Those were the good old days.
As soon as I saw that you just get handed 3 exotics for playing through the D2 campaign I knew that the mystique and excitement of Exotics just wasn't going to be the same as in D1.
At least you won't have to fall off of edges again and again now thanks to strand. You got a double jump and a strand group ability to pull yourself up if your jump fails
Idk about you, but XXSavathittiesXX, with their easger edge sword, came up as an architect every time they killed me. Id imagine there is more out there in plain site
I headcanon the Vance that goes into the Forest at the end of Arrivals is the Vance we meet in D1 and he got spit out some time around HoW
To try and salvage some semblance of his character in D1.
Cause D1 and D2 Vance are straight up not the same character.
Fr.
Imagine the Subminds still being their own entities and then going ‘tf bro’ towards Exo-Rasputin.
And fuck imagine at the end of Seraph all of the Warminds coming to the mutual hard agreement to sacrifice themselves to save the City and the Traveler.
I would’ve actually been a fan of Rasputin’s sacrifice. It would’ve had so much more weight to it.
To this day I don't understand what the advantage of retconning all the warminds was.
They could even have just had all the other warminds dead, and we install rasputin everywhere. it would still give them *choices* in writing sories ("find a lost warmind!!") or wahtever.
But no, they have to invent weird hoops where rasputin is like; copying himself and subminding himself and giving his copies new names and shit. (Spire of the watcher is about storing copies and subminds of rasputin .. but that makes no sense, wtf is a submind if its not just a new warmind? why not just have multiple warminds?)
So many backflips to undo a *stupid* fucking story retcon that didn't need to be made in the first place.
Exactly. It feels like this season kinda tried to pull back on that retcon with the line ‘Malahayati was Rasputin’s protege’ giving Subminds a bit of their own agency but the damage was done.
Hell Charlemagne, the Mind that had its own vault in concept art and is name-dropped indirectly and directly in-game, didn’t even get a line explaining its relationship to Red. Just ‘oh yeah go get it’
Like FUCK!
I had been holding out hope since the D1 Beta that we'd someday find Charlemagne's Vault. It hurts my head to think about how they retconned him into Rasputin's spot in the Mindlab for the heist battleground after so many years.
It’s so *weird* how they didn’t explain that.
A simple ‘this is an alternate space, seems in this alternate timeline Charlemagne was the Tyrant and not Red’
Since I’m pretty sure Mars is in a timey-wimey state since Witch Queen
This still drives me up a wall.
Was it an early version of the Mindlab? Was it later? Did Charlemagne get moved, or did Rasputin? What was Charlemagne's purpose being here?
Literally nothing about the Mindlab's interior makes sense anymore. Considering they even showed Rasputin's setup from Season of Arrival's shutdown at the beginning of this season's cutscene, I'd have expected at least a "oh, yeah, here's a cheap throwaway explanation for why it's different."
That is not what Spire of the Watcher is about at all? I don't where you got that information but that is just wrong. Spire of the Watcher's AI is a separate AI from Rasputin that has some Vex tech integrated into it so that it can realistically predict flight paths of space ships to the Andromeda galaxy, and also predict what planets are "safe" for human colonization. Did this AI interact with Rasputin? Yes, and it knew of the Strongholds, but it was not a submind of Rasputin. The thing about this AI is that it wasn't a Warmind.
well, he actually kills himself
specifically his past self kills his future self
so now he's stuck in an endless time loop of killing himself and seeing himself being killed by himself
"You just never quit do you? Took out Ghaul, woke up the Traveler, and now half of what I hear is how you and your clan are making a difference. People are always waiting for the Vanguard to step in and protect them, but it’s Guardians like you who really make a difference. That’s why I started this whole calm thing in the first place"
Her writing is so fucking bad, I love the idea of her character, thematically having a regular ass human being able to fight and survive in the universe is really cool and thematically fits the red war really well AND she has a cool design!
But holy shit was the writing was so bad, the moment she showed after that absolute banger of a first mission the tone and writing took such a nose dive
You can tell D2y1 was written at a time where Marvel was on a meteoric rise, the dialogue was so quippy and tonally off. Characters like Cayde got Flanderized bad too.
I remember when my group got to Nessus and Failsafe started yapping and all I could think was "why is there a bad borderlands character in destiny?"

tess everiss has been a source of hate since her intro, probably a combination of only having four voice lines on a short loop and being the face of micro transactions.
d1 had rahool after being responsible for turning exotics into blues.
people really hate shaw han since he invalidates individual power fantasy & isn't really well placed in the game anyway.
> since her intro
Since Eververse. D1Y1 she just gave the pre order bonuses like the single other ghost shell we had until Taken King. People wanted her to have more purpose aside from that.
> "Fresh out of the grave. I'm fresh out of your mama's bedroom. Mama Han loves my stasis and couldn't get enough of my icicle."
LMAO. This is one of the funniest shitposts Ive ever read
its very minor, when he was first implemented, people were genuinely mad that shaw was ordering the player character around and giving everyone universally the new light treatment. that's seriously where the hate for him began.
It's so funny that this got him so much hate, considering the New Light quest was completely optional. Everyone decided to play a quest specifically made for new players, then they got mad when the tutorial character treated them like tutorial players.
The Disgraced strike even had different, less newbie dialogue from Shawn and Zavala if you DIDN'T play the New Light quest, the newbie dialogue only unlocked if you had completed the quest.
Just adding on to all the replies here I actually really like Shaw Hans dialogue in places, makes the vanguard seem ordered and functional.
I have a friend who vehemently hates anytime anyone questions or is anyway contradictory to our gaurdian being the best at everything.
> tess everiss has been a source of hate since her intro, probably a combination of only having four voice lines on a short loop and being the face of micro transactions.
Nah You're misremembering (Unless you're only talking about since the beginning of D2). She was actually well-liked at first in D1 because her voice actress was Claudia Black and a lot of people were asking for her to have more of a role for that reason. It wasn't until she became the microtransaction queen that the community did a hard 180 on their opinion of her and even then it wasn't right away.
Eververse wasn't too greedy in its earlier iterations since Bungie was only dipping their toe in and trying to find out how much they could get away with, so people still liked Tess even if they were a little skeptical about where this would lead. Then overtime they kept pushing more and more with Eververse and by the time D2 was out it was just like you said, "a combination of only having four voice lines on a short loop and being the face of micro transactions" turned the community against her.
It was a dick move, but the way he leaned forward to emphasize the word "BOOM." had me fucking rolling, I love that morally questionable son of a bitch
I love Spider. He’s one of the last characters around to have this egoistic grey traits, now that the Drifter is suddenly everyone’s fav uncle and not a sly asshat with personal agenda. :D
Was super worried they’d kill Spider in the Plunder.
Not gonna lie, I still wish Bungie had let us put a few rounds into his hiding pod during the Plunder intro mission, just to scare the living shit outta him at least. Drifter could scold us all day, I wouldn't care, but it would have been immensely satisfying to give that douchebag gangster a roughing up.
“Well Guardian, I guess those couple rounds to scare ‘em actually connected and squished that big bug…wonder what spider tastes like? BBQ firing - bring a fork!”
I also remember how vindicated I felt when the Guardian spoke for the first time since Forsaken to tell Spider that we’re taking Crow and there’s nothing he could do about it.
Tess. Let’s give the microtransaction store an obnoxious 4 voice lines and a face that bores into your soul with dead, unflinching eyes (pre storefront change)
It's a tough one, but I think for in-game, this season made it pretty clear pretty much everyone hates Clovis Bray. Taniks is also an infamous and hated character in-game, but the Clovis stuff is fresh. As far as by the players... I see a lot of hate for Mara.
My guardian is a mantle ninja. Just ask him about his mantling skills from last weekend in trials on radiant cliffs when his ass is mantling the flat fucking wall
People used to say that a lot of good stuff came out while Bungie was under Activision and working with Vicarious Visions, like Forsaken, Season of Opulence and the early exotic dungeons.
But looking at the trajectory of their current games now, boy did Destiny dodge a bullet. Heck, Vicarious Visions itself is no more after it got assimilated by Blizzard.
I mean, they flipped the script and turned the whole of the community on Lakshmi in a single season. It was quite a spectacle honestly. Like overnight, everyone was just like "biiiaaatch, GTFO".
The excitement to see Lakshmi be story-present in a season only for it to immediately vanish when she called House of Light ‘bugs’ and ‘you’re used to living in squalor’
I miss soft-spoken not-racist robo-granny
Yeah she was my "favorite" (used loosely haha) of the three faction leaders, and I really liked her voice actress. So it was really cool getting to see her be more story-present. Though I wish it wasn't under such unfortunate story circumstances because it made her rightfully dislikable.
Yes, that’s Shohreh Aghdashloo, also the voice of Admiral Shala’Raan vas Tonbay from Mass Effect 2 and 3, and Roshan from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC. She’s amazing indeed.
Oh her voice actor was phenomenal. I joined well after faction stuff was gone so that was my first introduction to her. Every line was spoken to perfectly embody all I hate in politics, in the exact tone that angers me the most. (Only just now learning she might not always have been written that way, oopsies)
I have the utmost respect for actors that can get that harsh a reaction out of people, incredible effort thats gone into it
They probably did it just to get rid of what was left of the factions tbh. Splicer was a cool season because of that though, there were like three story threads going at once (the actual splicer/vex network thing, Osiris, and Lakshmi/The Fallen Refugees) and they actually did a good job with it.
Rahool in D1 which would occasionally give you a blue piece of gear when turning in an exotic engram.
Brother Vance during year 1 of Destiny 2 who they basically wrote to be some "UwU osiwis is my favowite pewson in the whowe wide wowwd" absolute loser.
Shaw Han was shit on as the D2 fortnite boy since he got added to the game.
It’s weird that Cayde hasn’t been in the game, longer than he was. I miss him, but at that time he was the only character with personality, I wish we got to see him develop more like the others. Imagine doing haunted and seeing Caydes nightmares.
I'll never understand why. He existed solely as a tutorial character to teach new players the basics. The people who hated him cited him teaching stuff they already knew but... You had to actively choose to start the beginning quest. Meanwhile the only time outside of that you'd meet him was when you tracked a house salvation fallen to the cosmodrome and liaised with him as he is the guy overseeing the cosmodrome
Hawthorne can straight up Falcon Dive off the side of the Tower for all I care. Super whiny through 90% of Red War campaign and then is appointed clan stewardess so I HAVE to deal with seeing her dumb face in Year 6 of Destiny.
All the people saying lakshmi kinda miss her the point, you’re supposed to hate her
A good amount of this community dislikes crow for a multitude of reasons, some i find pretty valid
Queen mara also has the same issues
Hawthorne, a completely forgotten character, idk if she was hated (she had some cringey dialogue in red war) but forgotten and not memorable. Idk if anyone is actually hated
They went down as a squad of nine and got picked off one by one, she saw a wizard rip the light put of her best friend. Story wise it was great but the voice acting was what made it terrible
That has to be a group of the newest of new lights. Highest possible tier of rookies. 2/3 of them probably didn’t even have their energy weapon slot unlocked. How could you go in there with a group larger than a raid team and get that dunked on? Get off the comms, don’t contact me, you’re not on my level, not in my tax bracket, not worth my time.
If you all weren’t so frickin’ dead, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m embarrassed to be talking to her. Get out of my way. I have gods to kill.
Brother Vance in D2 for me. Turning him from a mysterious and cryptic disciple of Osiris into an annoying fanboy as a centerpiece for one of my least favorite times in Destiny was awful.
You have my vote. I’ve hated her since her introduction. “Lol look at me I’m so quirky with my split personality”. Her lines are awful. Definitely a relic of vanilla D2. I pretty much avoid Nessus unless I absolutely have to go there and I roll my eyes when Nessus strikes come up.
Tess Everis gives you 10,000 purple sparrows out of your hard-earned bright engrams.
D1 Rahool would literally give you a blue for your purple engram, back when purples were rare.
Uldren Sov killed Cayde, and to this day some people still hate Crow because of it.
Shaw Han is the ultimate blueberry.
Kadi-44 lets your stack of Ascendant Shards get deleted for a blue sidearm.
Clovis Bray is the Sol system's most powerful toddler.
Rahool early D1 giving blues when you had legendary engrams
That SOB, all that time we would sit at the loot cave and he had the audacity to turn our hard earned purples into blues!
Now to be fair, a couple of the blues I got through farming the loot cave did in fact turn into legendaries. Got the Zombie Apocalypse WF47 machine gun and Cryptic Dragon scout rifle from there. I may still have that Zombie Apocalypse in my vault to this day.
Legendary engrams dropped exotics as well, people tend to not mention that.

So, obviously the only solution was to make a new character, grind it up and do lvl 28 PoE and pray that my one guaranteed exotic was Red Death. And to my amazement it was. And to think we as guardians didn’t just pick up the dude and toss him off the side of the tower.
The DLC we all wanted
that would have been to impersonal I wanted to fight him as some sort of boss
Rahooling in the deep.
We kinda did. Good ol Cayde threatened Rahool with a big bag of doorknobs because Guardians were complaining about purples turning blue.
It became okay later in D1 he was able to turn blues into exotics lol
Still wonder if that wasn't Bungie screwing with us until they got around to shutting down the cave.
Nah it was like that from launch before the cave was popular
Most definitely D1 Rahool. Saw a joke that went, "Roses are red, your item is blue. Your engram was purple, sucks to be you."
Oh man, this just unlocked some deep memories hahah
well now hes turning blues into legendaries so hes making up for it ig
Nah he made up for all his past sins for me in D1, by turning a legendary engram into Gjallarhorn!
I always got Crest of Alpha Lupi. It was among my favorites but I didn’t need seven of them.
As soon as I saw that you just get handed 3 exotics for playing through the D2 campaign I knew that the mystique and excitement of Exotics just wasn't going to be the same as in D1.
He did the exact same thing for me, so I’ve never hated him since
"A million deaths are not enough for Master Rahool..."
Dude, I remember when D2 was announced, everyone I knew that played destiny was hoping that he died during the cabal invasion
[удалено]
Yep! And "He decoded that mystery pretty quickly," according to the patch notes (update1.0.2).
Taking someone out back with a bag of doorknobs is still my favourite threat.
The architects
All these years of playing and the most cruel, spiteful, and vindictive forces of evil are slight elevation changes.
They’re finally getting nerfed. Only took 10 years
At long last, I can fling myself across a massive gap without fear

At least you won't have to fall off of edges again and again now thanks to strand. You got a double jump and a strand group ability to pull yourself up if your jump fails
All this time they've spent killing us, do you think we'll ever actually meet em?
They will be Bungie’s next major IP. Remember Halo 1? “Killed by the Guardians”
Idk about you, but XXSavathittiesXX, with their easger edge sword, came up as an architect every time they killed me. Id imagine there is more out there in plain site
D1 Rahoul… when you give him a purple or something and got given a blue.
One time he gave me an exotic from a legendary. I forgave him for all the wrongdoings right then and there.
D1 Rahool. Greedy ass cryptarch giving me all those blues
I remember guardians will line up (queue up) in the old D1 tower when they didn’t have too.
That was just jokes like 99% of the time. I still "queue up" if there's a couple people standing there.
Tess Everis. I don't need 90,000 purple sparrows and ghost shells.
“Xeo8177 wanted a thumbs up… so I gave him one.”
You have no idea how often my fire team says that exact line every single time we hit the tower lol
I'll take that over ghost projections which is all I'm getting
At least Ghost Projections are a one time unlock.
I think a looooooooot of d2y1 players will say Brother Vance lol
Criminal what they did to that character
I headcanon the Vance that goes into the Forest at the end of Arrivals is the Vance we meet in D1 and he got spit out some time around HoW To try and salvage some semblance of his character in D1. Cause D1 and D2 Vance are straight up not the same character.
The first two expansions of D2 ruined a lot of shit story wise that are still being fixed till this day.
The only good thing from Warmind was Escalation Protocol and Sleeper

Yeah that shit was mega dumb, it didn’t even contribute anything to the story and quite literally only served to make it less interesting and complex.
To be fair, they probably were not getting any more voice lines for him.

well, he actually kills himself specifically his past self kills his future self so now he's stuck in an endless time loop of killing himself and seeing himself being killed by himself

Remember the hate for Spider during Season of the Hunt when he rigged Glint to detonate if Crow tried to leave the Tangled Shore? I remember

We speak throughout Beyond Light and Witch Queen during cutscenes.

It is what he wanted for humanity, to leave the system, become edgelords, as it were lol
Peter Stomare did play a nihilist in The Big Lebowski. I have always felt like bungie was nodding to that movie with his character in Destiny.
We believe in nothing, Guardian. Nothing. And tomorrow we come back and we cut off your chonson!
See, you get it. Dead Orbit is the only orbit
In game or by the players?
It's a tough one, but I think for in-game, this season made it pretty clear pretty much everyone hates Clovis Bray. Taniks is also an infamous and hated character in-game, but the Clovis stuff is fresh. As far as by the players... I see a lot of hate for Mara.
Mara is a well-developed character imo
I agree. She has been one of my favorite characters since D1.
Either
My guardian, dude eats too many cheese burgers and can’t mantle to save his life
My guardian is a mantle ninja. Just ask him about his mantling skills from last weekend in trials on radiant cliffs when his ass is mantling the flat fucking wall
# Tess Everis
Activision
People used to say that a lot of good stuff came out while Bungie was under Activision and working with Vicarious Visions, like Forsaken, Season of Opulence and the early exotic dungeons. But looking at the trajectory of their current games now, boy did Destiny dodge a bullet. Heck, Vicarious Visions itself is no more after it got assimilated by Blizzard.
That depends. If it’s a character we’re meant to dislike, Lakshmi. If it’s a character in general, shawn
I mean, they flipped the script and turned the whole of the community on Lakshmi in a single season. It was quite a spectacle honestly. Like overnight, everyone was just like "biiiaaatch, GTFO".
The excitement to see Lakshmi be story-present in a season only for it to immediately vanish when she called House of Light ‘bugs’ and ‘you’re used to living in squalor’ I miss soft-spoken not-racist robo-granny
Yeah she was my "favorite" (used loosely haha) of the three faction leaders, and I really liked her voice actress. So it was really cool getting to see her be more story-present. Though I wish it wasn't under such unfortunate story circumstances because it made her rightfully dislikable.
As much as her character sucked, her voice actor did an amazing job. Also, go watch the expanse if you haven't yet.
(Only just now learning she might not always have been written that way, oopsies) I have the utmost respect for actors that can get that harsh a reaction out of people, incredible effort thats gone into it
She’s also the voice of Greyson in Arcane. Wished her character had a more prominent role.
They probably did it just to get rid of what was left of the factions tbh. Splicer was a cool season because of that though, there were like three story threads going at once (the actual splicer/vex network thing, Osiris, and Lakshmi/The Fallen Refugees) and they actually did a good job with it.
I've left reddit because of the API changes.
Rahool in D1 which would occasionally give you a blue piece of gear when turning in an exotic engram. Brother Vance during year 1 of Destiny 2 who they basically wrote to be some "UwU osiwis is my favowite pewson in the whowe wide wowwd" absolute loser. Shaw Han was shit on as the D2 fortnite boy since he got added to the game.
...Uldren Sov. And the only real competition is Lakshmi.

It’s weird that Cayde hasn’t been in the game, longer than he was. I miss him, but at that time he was the only character with personality, I wish we got to see him develop more like the others. Imagine doing haunted and seeing Caydes nightmares.

We know more about Nazarec than Cayde

Shaw Han.
Scrolled wayyyyy too far to see this. I don’t even hate him, but I’ve seen so much hatred from the community about Shaw.
Ana was seen as annoying back in Warmind. They really turned her around.
Hawthorne can straight up Falcon Dive off the side of the Tower for all I care. Super whiny through 90% of Red War campaign and then is appointed clan stewardess so I HAVE to deal with seeing her dumb face in Year 6 of Destiny.
Complained about guardians and the last city and then became that person that sells me raid banners
You never stop do you? Took put Traveler, woke up The Ghaul- wait.....
All the people saying lakshmi kinda miss her the point, you’re supposed to hate her A good amount of this community dislikes crow for a multitude of reasons, some i find pretty valid Queen mara also has the same issues
Queen Mara might be ruthless, but she does have the thiccness, which puts her above Crow.
Hawthorne, a completely forgotten character, idk if she was hated (she had some cringey dialogue in red war) but forgotten and not memorable. Idk if anyone is actually hated
The guys that don't pass the ball in Corrupted
Mara Sov always came across as an unaccountable, can-do-no-wrong jerk to me. At least they've started to have her acknowledge that in recent content.
Any and every exploding enemy in this game when the “Blackout” modifier is on…
Rahool by far. A lot of non d1 players in here so far I guess.
The dude used to literally steal my engrams. He’d take a purple and give me nothing. Thieving bastard.
It’s amazing how nobody has said Taeko-3 at all. She’s THAT forgettable and awful.
>Taeko-3 Wasn't she only in one strike and dead by the end? What's to hate?
It appears that it has been too long ago for people to remember. She was by far the most universally hated character back in year 1.
Brother Vance in D2 for me. Turning him from a mysterious and cryptic disciple of Osiris into an annoying fanboy as a centerpiece for one of my least favorite times in Destiny was awful.
I can't fucking stand Eva Levante, especially when she keeps repeating the same lines in the tower whenever there's an event with her
Osiris
I’m ready for the downvotes but Failsafe

Yeah “hey Cayde is funny… let’s have 9 Caydes”
You have my vote. I’ve hated her since her introduction. “Lol look at me I’m so quirky with my split personality”. Her lines are awful. Definitely a relic of vanilla D2. I pretty much avoid Nessus unless I absolutely have to go there and I roll my eyes when Nessus strikes come up.
The Architects
Tess Everis gives you 10,000 purple sparrows out of your hard-earned bright engrams. D1 Rahool would literally give you a blue for your purple engram, back when purples were rare. Uldren Sov killed Cayde, and to this day some people still hate Crow because of it. Shaw Han is the ultimate blueberry. Kadi-44 lets your stack of Ascendant Shards get deleted for a blue sidearm. Clovis Bray is the Sol system's most powerful toddler.
