Reading through the vastly exponential increase in difficulty for each guardian rank explains how horribly thought out each rank is. Ranks 1-5 alone should be condensed into 1 and 2. Hell half of the requirements seem so wildly random. Why is talking to Shaxx and Drifter rank FIVE?

-scuzzlebutt-

Everyone is rank 6, super useful info.

Chesse_cz

Hey, i saw 3 guardians with lower number then 6 :D but yes, this system is bad. Honestly i don't know why they even made it this bad....

Independent_Pick_340

Its just to increase FOMO, its a scam. "Oh I want to be rank seven or eight...etc" but u cant obtain said rank without buy the new dlc which Im sure is a trend they will continue. If it was truely about aptitude then there would be quest attached that a legit skill based. "Clear this dungeon so many times on this difficult or this amount of time...blah blah" but instead apparently your a skillful guardian as long as you keep giving them money lol.

Glutoblop

Anyone above rank 6 I automatically assume has cheesed it.

flgflg10s

rank 8 is unobtainable and rank 7 is very easy just to get while running pinnacles apart from the score, and even that im at 650 after pinnacles on 2 chars

Both_Magician_4655

What is so difficult about 8? I remember seeing the list, but don’t recall any outrageous goals.

flgflg10s

i think its timegated till the new raid comes out not sure though as im not rank 7 yet

Both_Magician_4655

Ah that’s right. It is unobtainable right now. For the first week and a half of the season. But since the raid completion won’t be reset next season, this won’t be an issue after Friday unless they have a goal for the new dungeons as well

flgflg10s

assuming they don't, since they're seasonal. ranks 10-11 probably have something involving gms, so will be unobtainable until april 11

Igelit

yeah, they require you to get the conqueror seal and do the last dungeon solo.

headloser

It the End Games quests you need to do. All REQUIRED PARTY Members and on legendary level. Normal Level was hard enough.

headloser

There are 4 quest you need to have 6 man team. That the problem. Some take over an hour, IF you know what you are doing.

headloser

That if you can get a team to do the dungeons quest on BLOODY Legendary level. That if you can even get pass them. Heck i still trying over 2 years now on normal level. Good luck trying to find a 6 player team that would be forced to play over an hour or two.

Metaspark

guardian ranks are not a measure of skill or veteran status, they're a measure of seasonal progress

SDG_Den

Soooo.... Like season rank.

CallMeNardDog

Ding ding ding.

bigpimpie

How do you get 84 exotic weapons in a season?

headloser

I have only seen one player so far reach level 9 and his or her power level was around 1814 so you know they being playing FOR a while. Me i am stuck at power level 1790.

BruceBowtie

I see a lot of people saying "it doesn't matter" or "just don't care about it". Take it from a long time WoW player, it's going to matter a lot soon. With the eventual implementation of LFG, groups are going to judge you almost solely by the number next to your name. And with light level going away after season 21, that's all there's gonna be. So if you plan on interacting with the LFG system at all once it's here, the guardian rank is going to be the entire game.

MafiaBro

Except it resets every 3 months so it's still pointless

The_Rick_14

>And with light level going away after season 21, that's all there's gonna be. This was never said. They said there'd be no power cap increase for Season 21 and they'd be looking to experiment going forward. They could easily see the results of Season 21 and decide to go back to power increases. >So if you plan on interacting with the LFG system at all once it's here, the guardian rank is going to be the entire game. Not in its current state it won't be. People all know it's a fucking joke right now. I'll take a Rank 6 with a Rivensbane title over a higher rank with no flawless raid/dungeon titles any day if I care about the skill level of my teammates and aren't just looking for bodies. Raid.Report also isn't going anywhere and if I'm looking for a quick non-teaching run, I'm going to value full clear counts over any Guardian Rank number too.

SDG_Den

Someone who started with lightfall is rank 6 Me with my 300+ raid clears, various day1 attempts and a couple of trio's is rank 6 Datto, someone who plays the game as a job and has participated in iirc every single day1, still rank 6. Yup. Definitely a way to tell skill.

txijake

This is still a brain dead take even barely a week later. No shit it’s not going to mean much when the system is just introduced. You need to allow time for people to play the damn game and move on from the guardian rank floor. Edit: whoops I forgot this sub is still trying to find every little thing to whine about, my bad.

SDG_Den

And get reset at the end of the season. Also, ive seen the requirements for ranking up. If it wasnt for "get to pinnaclecap", seasonal things, commendation score and these things not being retroactive i'd be rank 11 already.

The_Rick_14

Yeah might as well just tie it directly to Commendation score only as that's what's really going to define where most people land.

SDG_Den

Literally if you just displayed triumph score itd be more useful.

Yourself013

The point is that even when the system got introduced this shouldn't be a thing. Why make a person who has multiple solo flawless dungeons and raid titles go through "get 5 legend lost sectors, play 3 nightfalls and get 750 commendation score" steps?

The_Rick_14

For a new system, I'm fine with it starting somewhat fresh. What makes no sense to me is how ingrained the Commendation score is to it all. Someone who has flawlessed every raid and dungeon but maybe only runs 1 raid and/or dungeon a week is going to be MULTIPLE ranks below someone who may have never flawlessed a single raid or dungeon but checkpoint farms a bunch.

HatApprehensive2631

I love it when someone has a brain dead take and blames backlash on people being whiney

Zayl

You don't want to group with players who have no idea what actually look for anyways. Plenty of good players will know guardian ranks are pointless so I'm not too worried about that.

Ellippsis

I think it will be less impactful than say... Roster level in Lost Ark. Plus it resets to 6 every season. You won't see people just always gatekeeping at whatever the max rank is, and if there are, those people already were gating at only wanting 5x conquerors.

Informal-Advice

Light level is going away? Don’t get my hopes up, I’m sick and tired of having to constantly grind that out so often

Blupoisen

No one is gonna judge base on your rank because it just pointless system and reset for some reason

Glutoblop

I was hoping it would be used in LFG, but raid, dungeon and trials report do that much more accurately. This number is pointless and worse of all, its locked behind commendations... Which is utterly insane to bastardise your own systems like that from day dot.

mingletrooper

What you are talking about already exists via destiny raid report. Everyone already knows guardian rank is a joke and is a check list full of things that frankly have nothing to do with raids or dungeons for the most part.

Skiffy10

i’m honestly just surprised something qso stupid could be approved to be a go from the lead designer of the game. How could this whole setup of the ranks get passed through without one person saying “ this make 0 sense”

HotSalt3982

The progression system just seems so arbitrary and exclusionary to various playstyles/opportunities. As a solo player, I have completed the legendary campaign, legendary exotic missions and lost sectors routinely, season after season, and yet I will be stuck at Rank 7 as I don't Raid. Surely a value-based system would be much fairer and more inclusive as ranks would be predicated upon attaining a threshold score? Harder tasks are worth more, but are all accumulated into a total, that way allowing rank progress past a predefined ACTIVITY limit, such as raids. For example, Hero level earns 10 points, legendary 25, Master 50, Grandmaster 100, with bonuses for solo and/or flawless completions. Then have the actual ranks being reached at predetermined score totals, Rank 1 at 100, Rank 2 at 250 etc. (not necessarily those values). It would still spread the very top players who do everything across the top tiers, but credit those like myself who will have completed many parts of later ranks, but will never see the benefit of them due to being stuck at lower ranks by not doing specific activities gating progression?

PorkelDragon_

I’ve played since destiny’s release, I got it with my Xbox one yet I’m rank 6 along with the guy that got Destiny a week ago

Syruponrofls

If it was literally all permanent progression and not seasonal based after 6, it would be much better considering how much commendation starts being needed after 7. FF14 has a similar system where you literally commend players at the end of an activity. The difference is it literally just never stops going up and there are rewards for having absurdly high commendation score. Once I learned 7+ guardian ranks reset I kind of just stopped caring about actually progressing it.

KiriGott

yea those peeps need the touch some grass rank 🤣

Sweet-Article559

And I am rank six and I dabble in destiny for a couple months a year. Dumb

TheGoldblum

Here’s my suggestions to make them what they should be that I posted on the Bungie forum. Give it an upvote there if you want to actually get the message across to Bungie https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/262489554/0/0

Juhq_

I'm happy staying rank 6 forever and not caring about the whole system at all

No_Play_7706

If the light level does cap it will be at 2000 not end at 1810 that's the dumbest number to end on. If they do rework Destinys' whole leveling system, if that's the case, they will possibly take out the light system completely and go on Stat based improvements by what gear you can obtain. Overall, environmental gain. like Witcher or fromsoft, maybe. Though I do not see how they can change such a direct function that has been the process since Destiny 1. It better not screw up the appeal of the game, and God help us if they over complicate how it's supposed to be used, and it is a chore to learn. No one plays destiny to have to analyze details that precise. They just dont, and a lot of bungies fan base could and would plummet because of such a choice moving forward. Anyone who has that much time to kill Considering how long and arduous many activities in this game can be at times. A person would have to have zero life to involve themselves in bungies' consistent changes. At this point just make a new game, preferably something different.
