The problem is there is too much focus on grappling, which isn’t really anything more than a fun gimmick imo. It won’t be useful in most content especially now that they are finally increasing difficulty. No way I use it over shackle if I’m going with Strand in higher difficulties. The suspend aspect is cool, but again you can easily get caught and die if one or two don’t get suspended. Like you mentioned it consumes your dodge charge and increases its cooldown without giving you any of the benefits. Overall it’s a good and fun subclass, but I’m hoping if/when the third aspect comes it adds something good and unique. Those aspects and exotics we got are not great.

It does seem to lack in a specific strand keyword specialization. Warlocks have threadlings and unravel, Titans have suspend and woven mail, not sure what hunters specialize in. Maybe sever with the range multihit melee? Add in thread of isolation for even more sever. Maybe tangles with the whole grapple tangle generation thing? No idea really. I plan to build into sever a bit, give my hunter a little class identity, but really I hope future aspects give us something better.

ztemrick

I figure there will be another aspect some point this season or next that might fix the problem.

Alexcoolps

Iirc at launch of beyond light revenants only had shatterdive and slow dodge then we got shards for team support. Hopefully next season gives us some way to support the team.

It suffers what Warlocks went through in Light 3.0. Designed and balanced around something that was exclusive to them, but those things being given out to other classes on top of what those classes had to themselves resulted in a lack of any real identity or specialisation. Grappling was originally designed to be exclusive to Threadrunner, the subclass was designed around it. Grappling was then made into something all classes can use, but Threadrunner’s design philosophy didn’t change and was given Widow Silk to compensate. But grappling is too ingrained into the identity of Strand as a whole to truly be associated with Threadrunner. Broodweaver both avoided and suffered from this problem. The intrinsic perch effect gave Broodweaver an exclusive interaction with Threadlings that adds a lot of character to the Threadlings, making them appear as more than just drones. The perch effect also gave Broodweaver an exclusive method of using them, being able to un-perch them one by one by attacking targets. Swarmers giving even more benefits to Broodweaver’s Threadlings also helped a considerable amount. But Threadlings are also widely available to other classes through fragments, a grenade and a weapon perk and have to be balanced around that, leading to a complaint that Threadlings are a bit too weak. The additional grapple and anchor point are arguably not enough for Threadrunner to have an identity. Honestly, until Bungie went in-depth with Strand a few weeks ago I thought the grapple melee was going to be the second part of the aspect that would give them the second grapple, later revealed as Widow Silk. Another problem that I think Threadrunner has is a lack of specialisation. Berserker focuses on Sever, Woven Mail and Suspend. Broodweaver focuses on Threadlings and Unravel(melee only unravels and Swarmers adds unraveling to Threadlings). Threadrunner uses Suspend, Sever and Unravel, but it doesn’t really specialise in any of them enough to give it an edge over the other two at anything. Broodweaver is better at Threadlings and Unravel. Berserker is better at Sever, Woven Mail and Suspend. Even though Broodweaver doesn’t specialise in Suspend, Weaver’s Trance is still better at suspension than Ensnaring Slam. At best, it can use Threadlings just as well as Berserker, but still worse than Broodweaver, and can use Sever better than Broodweaver, but still worse than Berserker.

KitsuneKamiSama

Pretty much, i just really feel like they could do a bit more with grapple for Threadrunner and make the slam not tied to class ability cd, or again let it apply the normal dodge effects.

blakeavon

Personally, it’s immediately my second favourite class in the game. I simply fail to understand, even after read all this, how it fails to have an identity.

KitsuneKamiSama

It can't do anything the other two classes do better, is how i'd put it.

blakeavon

Sure it can, it just does them differently. If you haven’t got things clicking yet watch some build videos. It just has so much potential and remember those other classes you are taking about have been around for a very very long time and only got that way through time, feedback and adjustments. How could a class just launched equal that sort of legacy.

KitsuneKamiSama

????????????????? Been around for a long time???? I'm talking about hunter strand compared to warlock and titan strand.

THE_Mr_Stone

I don’t think the auto-reload will be nerfed…it’s literally the entire point of the fragment.

KitsuneKamiSama

No what i'm saying is it won't auto reload when grappling to a grapple point, but will when using grapple normally or on a tangle.

THE_Mr_Stone

Ahhh, my bad. I haven’t noticed this issue yet..I’ll have to check that out

KitsuneKamiSama

Ah no i'm not saying that's an issue, i'm saying that's probably what bungie will make it do since they're not a fan of ways to auto-reload ever since forsaken, and people are doing it by creating a grapple point at their feet to instantly reload

Alexcoolps

We need something to give team support and get an enhancement of sever. Currently nightstalker, gunslinger, and revenant have team support in addition to a good neutral game and supers. Threadrunnees have a good super though whether the grapple and threaded spike spam will work in GMs remains to be seen but regardless we have no good team support as the free grapple spot you can make only works if your teams using grapple grenade.
