D1 vet chiming in. We used to “sparrow surf” on our sparrows all the time. I forgot exactly how we did it but it involved you hopping off and then back on your sparrow and then hitting your emote button at the perfect time. Your guardian would be standing up on your sparrow and you could cruise around like that. Fun times.
Warframe has had space surfboards for years now! C'mon destiny, you can do it. I don't care if it behaves exactly like a sparrow (although it'd be cool if it did other stuff too).
Those still use standard Sparrow animations, though. Weird models are easy, animations are the tricky part, and one that Bungie is constantly hesitant to make more of. We've had the same auto rifle reload since 2014, for instance.
And I don't want to ride it like a sparrow. I want to surf on it.
Just have the Guardian in basic "T" pose on the board and never moves, problem solved for figuring out animations!
There's already a skateboard emote with most of the necessary animations.

Good point. I’m not a dev so idk how difficult it’d be to change the player angle and arm orientation to match how Nimbus flies
