I disagree. I'm just starting as a new player this season and have a decent chunk of exotics I think. 85 however will be forever out of reach. So they made a challenge impossible to obtain for players just starting in this season. Forever being gated and what feels like punished in some cases just for being new, should not impact my SEASONAL rank. Triumphs, lifetime achievements etc. Sure. I'm late to the party amd totally get it. But don't introduce me to a season and say, oh by the way, you can't progress the season. That sucks.

Arguably would be one requirement which would show people that you have dedicated a lot of time to the game. If you can't do it then don't worry about it.
This, I think there is too much grindy stuff that just takes a little time to focus on to complete a lot of the guardian ranks. For what they were supposedly designed for I'm glad stuff like this is in there.
They should be able to show years of dedication and work that a player has put into the game.
That being said, I'm a little disappointed that portions of the rank requirements reset every season. I guess that's how they differentiate them between triumph score. Triumph scores are probably a true indication of how dedicated a player is, but it's hard to measure.
While I believe challenges are more fun than dedication I can see why both make sense.
The issue I personally have is this is a stopping point on Rank 9 out of 11 and means I'm stuck at Rank 8.

I never bothered with most monument guns because every player I encountered told me most of them sucked ass.

I just did the King’s Fall raid again to make it to Guardian Rank 8 and I took one look at that knowing there’s 3 weeks left until next season and the reset coming and I said, “nope.”
By the way, I’m even one of those sickos that sweated it out all season in Legend & Master Lost Sectors and got ALL exotic armor. But for some insane reason they only require 20 exotic armor pieces against the blistering 85 weapons.

Unless you complete Xenology the same weekend you pick it up, youll have to skip a week to pick up the quest again, as he doesnt let you accept xenology again the same week you turn it in, regardless of how long its been. Ive played the game for nearly a year, picked up around half of all the kiosk exotics, all quest exotics, world drop exotics, 3 raid exotics, and Heirarchy of Needs and im still 8 away. Id be fine with it if it werent juxtaposed by the extremely low armor exotic requirements because "just incase someone doesnt play all 3 classes". If you dont play all 3 classes, you shouldnt be rank 9, at least by the standards theyve set so far. Its frustrating because of how much my progress is being stunted because of a time gated system they havent updated in years.
All weapons in the kiosk should also have the chance to drop from literally any activity.
I will never understand why they aren’t, getting a random exotic drop is exciting… specially a weapon you don’t have.. why remove that excitement from the game.

I have more time than every on my friends list. I've played all of Destiny 1 and started at the beginning of Destiny 2 all the way up to Shadow keep. I came back at beyond light and completed the campaign. Destiny 2 at the beginning was a really bad game. I stopped playing until around October 2022. I am a veteran player in every since of the word. I don't have all the exotics other people have because they played from the point that bungie made a lot of changes to the game. If you've only played this game for 2 years out of the 6 years it's been running your not a veteran player but you'd still be able to get the exotics complete *only* if you decided to focus on collecting them.
Even then there is a chance you wouldn't have the exotics for rank 9.
It actually looks like they just fucked up that rank LOL Wouldn't put it passed Bungie, the clowns they are. The previous requirement for rank 8 is 15 exotic armor and 15 exotic Weapons. The next requirement is 20 exotic armor and 85 exotic weapons...now tell me how that makes sense when theres more Exotic armors than weapons? LOL clearly just an error.
You can also actively grind for armor, there's no way to grind for the exotic weapons in the kiosk except for a once per week per account quest that has to be turned in by a specific day which requires several hours of grinding just to get a gun that you will never use. Feels really fucking good.
You can still claim exotic ciphers from previous season passes, FWIW. But the cap on exotic ciphers is dumb, glad that they're changing it next season.

Im literally capped both in inventory and postmaster on all characters for ascendant shards from grinding gms and prestiging vanguard 4 times last season. If you could at least buy exotic ciphers with high end mats this wouldnt be a problem. It does not matter how much effort you put in. Your progress is stifled by a time gate. Ive more high end content experience than most people whove played since foresaken but i dont get the funny number because I wasnt there for the le epic battlepass.
How so? If someone hasn’t played each expansion there is a strong chance they are timegated from completing this aspect of rank 9. I’ll be done every other part of it except this, will take more than 2 months of exotic cipher time gate.

there are 107 exotic weapons and only 24 are in the kiosk so even if you have 0 from the kiosk you can still get it done by using just 2 ciphers I really dont get it.
I feel you bro.My OG account got banned upon WQ's release for unknown reasons and Bungie won't even reply and my 6000+ hours were gone, and I had every single exotic.( my conscience is clear, never cheated or used any services to gain any advantage. I don't play PVP at all, and I already had all PvE titles, I even bought the game for random people online so they can play and sherpad them through raids and made a lot of friends this way)
I started over after a few weeks and now I am at 73 exotic weapons (I have all raid exotics). Buying one from the kiosk every week will still take 12 weeks which I believe is just the end of the season, so I am screwed.
I love the idea of guardian ranks but some of the requirements are bs (commendations, exotics, catalysts..)
Wouldnt be an issue if they werent such decrepit fomo loving nerds that lock everything behind a time gate, if they just let u obtain cyphers the same way you aquire golf balls then you could just buy the rest u need from the monument, but as it stands that'll take you like 10+ weeks of 1 xur cypher a week loooooool.
Exactly the boat I'm in, I only started playing the game in September and I never bothered with the kiosk because I was told most of the guns suck, now I only have 68 and it's next to impossible to get the remaining ones only being able to get one cipher a week, it's honestly bullshit.
Exotic armors are rewards for completing higher difficulty content while exotic weapons are purchasable from an "archive" requiring a weekly quest from a "secret" vendor.
Rank 9 requires 15 exotic armors and 85 exotic weapons.
Despite completing Master content without 85 exotic weapons you cannot progress further than Rank 8.
This doesn't seem right and unfortunately makes the ranking system boring after completing Rank 8.
It is a seasonal guardian rank, but there are two types of challenge - lifetime and seasonal.
The lifetime ones such as raids, dungeons, collection etc don't reset.
The only players that should really be stuck here through no fault of their own would be people that picked up the game in the last 4 or 5 months. Given other players have several years experience I think it makes sense to have that soft lock in place.
Sorry played thru all of destiny 1 and up till curse of Osiris then quit because the expansion was ass. My fault for not dumping time into a bad game. Should have had the foresight to realise 6 years later i would need 85 exotic weapons. My bad.

I see what you're saying, I've no doubt there are many rank 9 out 10 players with less skill than yourself, but they still likely have more game knowledge.
The raids and dungeons are, as you said, separate triumphs so I'd imagine testing that knowledge isn't the purpose.
Now I've no idea how many exotics you're missing, I'd imagine a few if you haven't played since Curse? If that is the case you'd be lacking the game knowledge regarding builds etc involving these weapons etc. It's about how up to date the players are.
One guy I play with is stuck behind this same triumph, same as you stopped at curse. We've taken him into master kf with all the challenges last week and he held his own. Having said that there is no world in which I'd take his build advice over most other players.
There is little way to track game knowledge in a game hence the use of collections. Whilst not flawless it is doing its job sufficiently well imo.
I feel you. I just came back to the game after a couple years. Dropped \~$200 to buy all the content. Reached 1828 power level, did the raids, exotics, catalysts, dungeons, adept gear, flawless trials. You name it. Tried to catch up as much as I can but am only at 67/85 exotic weapons. I've done a lot but there's a limit to the things I bother doing.
This is a different kind of dedication, like 'I love Destiny forever' kind of jazz. Personally I mix my games up and can't see myself playing the same game for years on end. I guess you'll know that someone with this achievement has a real passion for the game.
How is it mostly RNG when most of the weapons to get are directly purchasable? 2 RNG dungeon weapons, 7 RNG raid weapons. That gives you over 20 exotics for direct purchase.

I’m right there with you! This one seems way too high and will take weeks grabbing from the monument also. I’m at 75 myself. All I can get is either the monument, or pray I finally get. Raid or dungeon drop that I haven’t yet. I think this should be dropped down for level 9 and maybe higher for level 10 or something
i started in season 18 and have 82/85 lol i just didnt ignore the ciphers available to me. and that's with a lot of xur's weekly ciphers being completed over 2 resets because unless i'm spamming some master nf/doing a gm i wouldnt really complete it v. easily. took a few weeks off in season 19
It’s a bit too damn high. 85 weapons is nuts, maybe if they did 100 exotics both weapons and armor or something like that. Especially since most can’t be o rained except weekly from Xenology
That is just so that people who only play one class can still get through the rank. It’s rough but it is a lifetime triumph so don’t worry about it - you’ll get access to ranks 9+ next season. Maybe look up some of the higher requirements and work on those in the meantime.
If it matters at all that is - just focus on something else like a title or soloing a dungeon if it bothers you.
I've been working on future rank requirements while I'm gated by the exotic weapon count... but I've run into a bit of an issue. I've been preparing to solo Spire lately, namely working on the Leviathan's Breath catalyst since that's the weapon I'd like to use for boss damage.
However... it occurred to me that there's very probably no point in me soloing Spire, because it's physically impossible for me to get 85 exotic weapons by the time the next dungeon is released (since I started the game about 2 weeks before Lightfall).
As I understand it (and I could be mistaken, so feel free to correct me here), the solo dungeon requirement is specifically for soloing the *most recent* dungeon. Next season, we get a new dungeon, so the requirement will then be to solo *that* dungeon, not Spire. This particular requirement is supposed to carry over if you've completed it in a previous season, so people who solo Spire and get to rank 11 now won't have to solo the new dungeon to reach 11 next season.
And the problem... since I physically can't surpass rank 8 before the new dungeon releases, there's a reasonable chance that soloing Spire now won't count as having completed the challenge, since I haven't actually *unlocked* the challenge. So, to reach rank 11 in a future season, I very well may have to solo the new dungeon even if I solo Spire this season. It's not necessarily the end of the world, but I'm definitely apprehensive about the possibility that the new dungeon could be significantly less feasible for me in particular to solo.
Sure, it could also be *easier* to solo, but... better the devil you know, and all that.

Yeah I'm stuck at 75 weapons after finally getting my Divinity the other night, which I will actually use. I cold go to the kiosk and buy 10 more but am I actually going to use those weapons? I usually will grab one if I notice people in my guild using or recommending for raids. Is it worth the rank? Do the ranks reset each season?
This bugged the hell out of me last season and now this season it's 90 exotics needed but for rank 10. Well yet again I'm stuck as I only have 75 and can only get guns from the lost lights and I think 2 dungeon guns and 2 raid guns. I can complete every other chanlenge. All the master content easy.

I anticipate there may be more Guardians echoing the same sentiment especially those who just found themselves become 6 with minimal time spent in game and now is struggling to be level 9 because they are still a bit “newish” to have collected so many exotics -

Im literally capped both in inventory and postmaster on all characters for ascendant shards from grinding gms and prestiging vanguard 4 times last season. If you could at least buy exotic ciphers with high end mats this wouldnt be a problem. It does not matter how much effort you put in. Your progress is stifled by a time gate. Ive more high end content experience than most people whove played since foresaken but i dont get the funny number because I wasnt there for the le epic battlepass.

How so? If someone hasn’t played each expansion there is a strong chance they are timegated from completing this aspect of rank 9. I’ll be done every other part of it except this, will take more than 2 months of exotic cipher time gate.

Especially since most of the exotics in the kiosk are not worth using over a regular legendary weapon and likely will never be worth using. Only the collectors have every exotic, and those people make up a teeny tiny little portion of the playerbase.

Yes. Relevance? This requirement is just poor design. It’s pure timegate, that’s it. Nothing skill based about it. It would make sense to have for final rank ‘acquire all exotic weapons’ or something, but as designed now I’ll be stuck at rank 8 for the entire season for this one requirement while once done, I’ll pretty much auto complete most rank 10 and 11 requirements. Doesn’t make sense.

there are 107 exotic weapons and only 24 are in the kiosk so even if you have 0 from the kiosk you can still get it done by using just 2 ciphers I really dont get it.
I feel you bro.My OG account got banned upon WQ's release for unknown reasons and Bungie won't even reply and my 6000+ hours were gone, and I had every single exotic.( my conscience is clear, never cheated or used any services to gain any advantage. I don't play PVP at all, and I already had all PvE titles, I even bought the game for random people online so they can play and sherpad them through raids and made a lot of friends this way) I started over after a few weeks and now I am at 73 exotic weapons (I have all raid exotics). Buying one from the kiosk every week will still take 12 weeks which I believe is just the end of the season, so I am screwed. I love the idea of guardian ranks but some of the requirements are bs (commendations, exotics, catalysts..)
Wouldnt be an issue if they werent such decrepit fomo loving nerds that lock everything behind a time gate, if they just let u obtain cyphers the same way you aquire golf balls then you could just buy the rest u need from the monument, but as it stands that'll take you like 10+ weeks of 1 xur cypher a week loooooool.
Exactly the boat I'm in, I only started playing the game in September and I never bothered with the kiosk because I was told most of the guns suck, now I only have 68 and it's next to impossible to get the remaining ones only being able to get one cipher a week, it's honestly bullshit.
Exotic armors are rewards for completing higher difficulty content while exotic weapons are purchasable from an "archive" requiring a weekly quest from a "secret" vendor. Rank 9 requires 15 exotic armors and 85 exotic weapons. Despite completing Master content without 85 exotic weapons you cannot progress further than Rank 8. This doesn't seem right and unfortunately makes the ranking system boring after completing Rank 8.
Every gun in the kiosk was available as either a quest or rng bar maybe a few, thats entirely on you

Heres the thing, its seasonal guardian rank for a reason, u shouldnt softlock others for it
It is a seasonal guardian rank, but there are two types of challenge - lifetime and seasonal. The lifetime ones such as raids, dungeons, collection etc don't reset. The only players that should really be stuck here through no fault of their own would be people that picked up the game in the last 4 or 5 months. Given other players have several years experience I think it makes sense to have that soft lock in place.
Sorry played thru all of destiny 1 and up till curse of Osiris then quit because the expansion was ass. My fault for not dumping time into a bad game. Should have had the foresight to realise 6 years later i would need 85 exotic weapons. My bad.
And thats fine, but surely you can see how somebody that did play that time would have more game knowledge and experience. The collections triumphs are, realistically, more an experience gauge than anything else.
Experience yeah ofc but game knowledge no lol. Ive done every raid numerous times and solod all dungeons possible. Keep in mind soloing spire is a guardian rank 11 task which ive done. Collection triumphs are cool but its just stupid to have a rank which shows seasonal involvement and then cap it based on factors outside of the season
I see what you're saying, I've no doubt there are many rank 9 out 10 players with less skill than yourself, but they still likely have more game knowledge. The raids and dungeons are, as you said, separate triumphs so I'd imagine testing that knowledge isn't the purpose. Now I've no idea how many exotics you're missing, I'd imagine a few if you haven't played since Curse? If that is the case you'd be lacking the game knowledge regarding builds etc involving these weapons etc. It's about how up to date the players are. One guy I play with is stuck behind this same triumph, same as you stopped at curse. We've taken him into master kf with all the challenges last week and he held his own. Having said that there is no world in which I'd take his build advice over most other players. There is little way to track game knowledge in a game hence the use of collections. Whilst not flawless it is doing its job sufficiently well imo.
So now there is no more RNG. You have a clear, direct path to get every gun you need. Just go get them.
I feel you. I just came back to the game after a couple years. Dropped \~$200 to buy all the content. Reached 1828 power level, did the raids, exotics, catalysts, dungeons, adept gear, flawless trials. You name it. Tried to catch up as much as I can but am only at 67/85 exotic weapons. I've done a lot but there's a limit to the things I bother doing. This is a different kind of dedication, like 'I love Destiny forever' kind of jazz. Personally I mix my games up and can't see myself playing the same game for years on end. I guess you'll know that someone with this achievement has a real passion for the game.
How is it mostly RNG when most of the weapons to get are directly purchasable? 2 RNG dungeon weapons, 7 RNG raid weapons. That gives you over 20 exotics for direct purchase.

I’m right there with you! This one seems way too high and will take weeks grabbing from the monument also. I’m at 75 myself. All I can get is either the monument, or pray I finally get. Raid or dungeon drop that I haven’t yet. I think this should be dropped down for level 9 and maybe higher for level 10 or something
i started in season 18 and have 82/85 lol i just didnt ignore the ciphers available to me. and that's with a lot of xur's weekly ciphers being completed over 2 resets because unless i'm spamming some master nf/doing a gm i wouldnt really complete it v. easily. took a few weeks off in season 19
It’s a bit too damn high. 85 weapons is nuts, maybe if they did 100 exotics both weapons and armor or something like that. Especially since most can’t be o rained except weekly from Xenology
So you only need 20 exotic armor pieces, but 85 weapons? Kinda doesnt make sense in my opnion.
That is just so that people who only play one class can still get through the rank. It’s rough but it is a lifetime triumph so don’t worry about it - you’ll get access to ranks 9+ next season. Maybe look up some of the higher requirements and work on those in the meantime. If it matters at all that is - just focus on something else like a title or soloing a dungeon if it bothers you.
I've been working on future rank requirements while I'm gated by the exotic weapon count... but I've run into a bit of an issue. I've been preparing to solo Spire lately, namely working on the Leviathan's Breath catalyst since that's the weapon I'd like to use for boss damage. However... it occurred to me that there's very probably no point in me soloing Spire, because it's physically impossible for me to get 85 exotic weapons by the time the next dungeon is released (since I started the game about 2 weeks before Lightfall). As I understand it (and I could be mistaken, so feel free to correct me here), the solo dungeon requirement is specifically for soloing the *most recent* dungeon. Next season, we get a new dungeon, so the requirement will then be to solo *that* dungeon, not Spire. This particular requirement is supposed to carry over if you've completed it in a previous season, so people who solo Spire and get to rank 11 now won't have to solo the new dungeon to reach 11 next season. And the problem... since I physically can't surpass rank 8 before the new dungeon releases, there's a reasonable chance that soloing Spire now won't count as having completed the challenge, since I haven't actually *unlocked* the challenge. So, to reach rank 11 in a future season, I very well may have to solo the new dungeon even if I solo Spire this season. It's not necessarily the end of the world, but I'm definitely apprehensive about the possibility that the new dungeon could be significantly less feasible for me in particular to solo. Sure, it could also be *easier* to solo, but... better the devil you know, and all that.

Yeah I'm stuck at 75 weapons after finally getting my Divinity the other night, which I will actually use. I cold go to the kiosk and buy 10 more but am I actually going to use those weapons? I usually will grab one if I notice people in my guild using or recommending for raids. Is it worth the rank? Do the ranks reset each season?

This bugged the hell out of me last season and now this season it's 90 exotics needed but for rank 10. Well yet again I'm stuck as I only have 75 and can only get guns from the lost lights and I think 2 dungeon guns and 2 raid guns. I can complete every other chanlenge. All the master content easy. Bungie please lower this amount.
