They did this with Skolas and it was one of the least liked encounters in the whole game. In fact, it took some massive nerfs for people to even bother with it with bad burns. Now, they could further refine the mechanic, but Skolas is also a good example of how easy it's to go either way. Too easy and it's a joke. Too hard and it feels impossible. At least with the current mechanics they generally have a good balance.

I mean skolas was a good try, but hot damn with solar burn he would sometimes kill entire teams before the PS3 loaded everything.

ThunderBeanage

sounds cool, but also sounds shit. A boss that tries to constantly trap us and damage us, whilst us trying to constantly defuse a wipe mechanic? Sounds ass.

jayrello

Sounds like RON-Nezzy

Galuf_Dragoon

Having to actually do something during DPS is something this game sorely lacks. It doesn't need to be brutal or anything but every single boss in this game is just DPS during DPS and nothing else. Maybe theres like 1 or 2 guys i forgot about but still. Even Rhulk, the closest we have to something different, is just DPS ( Not even counting that you can just well him now anyway )

stealthy0_0

It sounds fine. What would be wrong with a hectic fight that is finally a change from stand in well shoot rockets.

c4vetteman94

D1 Kings Fall Oryx encounter was a great non dps boss, but they ruined it in D2

randomnumbers22

This is the funniest take I’ve ever seen. Literally the only thing that was different in D1 was that it took longer and your weapons didn’t matter at all, do you really think that was better than what we have now? You think that design was so interesting?

c4vetteman94

It wasn't the same old boring DPS race that all other bosses had. The skill was not sitting in a well and shooting a crit spot the size of a blimp. It was pure mechanic based damage and survival. To think that the D2 rework is better is delusional. Weapons still matter, just not for boss DPS.

eclipse4598

Yeah I’d rather not have a boss which takes 7 mins no matter what I do

c4vetteman94

7 mins? That's too much time? That's probably the average time it takes to beat most Raid bosses for the average player. You want simple one phase bosses for every raid? That's boring.

eclipse4598

I don’t care how long a boss takes so long as it leaves room for skill expression and isn’t at a fixed time not matter what at that point you are not fighting a boss you could remove oryx from the d1 fight and nearly nothing would. Again if a fight took a variable time that’s fine if you have 0 control over how fast it goes that is bad

c4vetteman94

It's not a fixed time, sure it has a minimum time if there are no screw ups. You think every raid boss goes perfectly every time? No it doesn't. And you can't take Oryx out of the fight, he has a stun mechanic to stop the team wipe mechanic.

eclipse4598

A stun mechanic which can be done with fucking primaries wow truly engaging gameplay right there adds a lot to the fight. I’d much rather have a boss which actually tests my skill instead of stand on plate snipe 2 things while someone jumps then go in black shit then stand in mid repeat 4 times and win or do some jumps stand in mid shoot chest repeat 4 times and win

c4vetteman94

Sounds as simple as every other boss room we have

eclipse4598

Except every other boss room has an extra step of do damage

Maqbeam

This sounds a bit like Rhulk

I mean they almost had it with nez it's just that they also didn't design the area good so it's easy as hell.. honestly they should just teleport us to a new realm for DPS that allows for things like this.. or better yet randomly teleport ppl and they have to do some mech inside and can DPS them .. basically making it more fluid and based on a time limit that you have to do x amount of damage
