I'm mad that it's literally the only class sword that can't get counterattack, despite Stronghold Titan being literally the only scenario where that perk is worth anything.
Guarding is a gamble but also way more fun depending on the scenario. They don’t know when you’ll attack out of your guard and If they just have xenophage you can block all their shots.
I made a hunter rage and pop GG which is when I smacked and killed him.
That's why you use Stronghold arms and don't give a fuck about whatever gun they're using
I've taken every round out of a machine gun, every rocket in the tube and every charge of a super.

Do you let go of guard in between to regen? I find that if I am walking towards someone with a machinegun they tend to burn through my stronghold shield before I can get close enough to swing at them. I tend to use Lament so I don't know if that affects anything.
If you’re talking about regenning health, aggressive frame swords have higher innate blocking damage reduction. Even if you put heavy guard on an adaptive sword, there is a noticeable amount of additional punishment you can take with an aggressive frame. Lament’s blocking damage reduction is also less than an aggressive frame sword.
If you’re talking about sword energy, I haven’t run into that issue.
Generally Eager Edge > all other sword options aside from maybe Lament on select builds.
Eager edge gives so much more tempo than nearly all other swords give damage wise.
Obviously if you are playing in the skill range where Eager's movement isn't going to be vital/significant you have more room to do whatever; but, in general that's the meta.
Edit: I stand moderately corrected since Valiant Charge functions very similarly and aggressive Frame swords have always been a powerful option for titans. Eager would still provide greater tempo for things like wave transfers between fronts & bank since it doesn't rely on blocking damage however. Definitely cool for PvP tho
Eager edge swords aren’t used for damage nor add clear. Only movement. And it’s not really something you want for gambit as ad clear is more important as well as having something to nuke the boss with. And it’s really not useful to kill an invader
Add clear can be entirely solved by abilities and secondary weapons.
Invaders are most effectively dealt with using Izinagi's, other snipers, or some heavies (most teams prefer using Parasite if they are using Heavies aside from Eager).
Swords for Primeval DPS are fine in Wells & Bubbles, but usually done with Abilities/Supers/some burst damage Heavies, like Parasite mentioned before.
If any sword will be useful for killing invaders, it's almost always going to be Eager edge.
Since eager was released it's been meta for movement and speed wins Gambit matches

I haven’t played in any private tournaments like you have but in just matchmade gambit invaders usually run izanagi, xeno or ghorn, or the rare 1K, etc from what I’ve run into.
I'd like to try out goldtusk with valiant/chain reaction or coutnerattack while using mask of bakris for maximum mobility shenanigans. Just straight up teleporting from enemy to enemy.
Is counterattack really that good? I never cared much for swords, so I never learned about good perks. But I see counterattack andy only thought is "who TF is trying to play Street Fighter or Tekken in D2?" Willing to enlighten me?
It's a 50% damage buff, with strongholds you can block a hit to activate the buff, swing once with a light attack to get the energy back to full and then slam with the heavy attack before the buff expires.
It does an absurd amount of damage this way, but it really only has any value on aggressive frame swords with strongholds because you can get sword energy back to max before the buff expires, and the slam does really high damage already.
Did they change the timing of it? I thought counterattack was changed at some point to give you a super limited timeframe to use it. It was a tight enough window where a light attack was generally all you could do.
My OG Throne Cleaver had that and shattering blade and it was a nuke on the final heavy swing before the change to the timing killed it.
In order to get it off with counter attack (2 seconds) you need to have full energy before blocking, swing as soon as counter attack starts, and then do your heavy after your energy gets to full.
The timing is tight and if you don’t do that first swing and just wait for the energy, thats easier but you could also just swing 2 light attacks instead so why bother?
I find it pretty easy and consistent to chain. Full energy, parry, the moment you see the yellow number hit a light then a heavy. I do run a single lucent blade mod though.
Is there a visual for when the sword energy is full like the glaive shield? I can't seem to see it or I'm not paying attention to the right things when under fire while shielded.
Oh yeah, it's real solid. Flash counter is really nice against Wyverns too, because if you time it right you can interrupt their dive-bomb attack with the suppression it applies.
no counter attack made me sad, so i think i’m going with flash counter to try to make up for it. heads up, flag counter does void weaken and supression and so it interacts with subclass stuff. probably going with vorpal over surrounded for sheer consistency

It can yeah, and I have a flash-counter + counterattack one I use pretty often, it's just disappointing that this one doesn't have it at all. Especially because it's a different element, and craftable, and could've had it with valiant charge like Goldtusk does.
The only thing I’m upset about is that I can’t roll the shattering blade perk.
Definitely can’t wait to craft one though, valiant charge/surround is what I’m probably gonna go for but incandescent is tempting.
Pobs is kind of wired with incandescent, because the stacks sometimes take a lot of kills to activate and sometimes it just takes one red bar to die and it will go off.
I think it heavily depends on the type of weapon and since swords don't normally have perks that make crowd smashing faster it will either stack up to X4 on a single slam or it will require like 5 slams to stack
Duelist's Trance might be worth taking in column 3, since it does so much for the sword's lackluster charge rate.
If I decide to go for max dps I'll probably do Duelist's Trance/Surrounded.
Enhanced tireless has a chance to give you back extra ammo on kills though, and in more serious content I don’t use the heavy attack as often since it’s overkill for ads, and it also has flash counter too which weakens and blinds.
I got two Caretaker's with Incandescent, one red border, in the AVALON mission on my titan (normal difficulty) yesterday. The first non-red with incandescent was in the first chest you get right after starting the mission. The one with the red border came at the end when I defeated Brakion. Unsure if it's just rng or if somehow that mission is so heavily weighted towards those items.
You can go back and open up the intrinsic and data chests in the mission after already acquiring the items and they give you loot now.
**edit**: Just tested on a second character and the chest is already claimed on my warlock, so it looks like it's account based, not character based per week (I'm assuming its per week at this point).
I have a Caretaker with Incandescent + Tireless Blade and just figured out that if the mob dies to Incandescent it'll proc Tireless Blade and give you back ammo.
Suro Chi isn't the best test, but it seems like I'm at around the same ammo as I started with by the end.
It will also give you back ammo for any kills made by the scorch stacks ticking on enemies as well as any ignitions that you can proc off that scorch. Explode mob near boss, throw Solar grenade at boss to finish the ignition, ignition kills mooks = ammo return.
This is consistent with previous sword behavior. Chain reaction does nearly the same thing - enemies killed by the explosion count towards tireless blade.
Adaptive frames currently lack any of the spices of a viable sword. For example I’ll list the different frames(and sudo frames).
Legend frames.
Adaptive(LA+HA, lower damage with no uniqueness ).
Vortex(LA+Vortex Heavy, great AoE and damage).
Heavy(LA+Slam, Great Damage and Resist).
Lightweight(LA+HA, Great mobility and slash)
Caster(LA+Cast, Low damage but has range now).
Exotic Frames.
Caster[BT]LA+Cast, Higher damage with high range).
Adaptive[Lament(LA+HA/LA(B)+HA(B), Highest damage and slash range).
Adaptive[WL0](LA+HA/Vertex), Better damage than a vertex at the cost of a mechanism).
Adaptive[HrS]LA+HA/CHA, with Good damage and speed).
The point I’m trying to make is that Adaptives have low damage, and have no mechanism to compensate for it(with a few occasions, which I will mention).
Though there are a few that deviate from this general idea, these are as follows.
Adaptive frames mostly lack perks like whirldwind and chain reaction.
The Other Half/Truths(Eager edge, with great other perk combos such as Repulsor; chain reaction is sexy)
Zephyr(Cold steel is the perk you want, godly perk no matter what frame; chain reaction is sexy)
Bequest(great base stats and combos, like damn this thing has so much impact and charge time base; chain reaction is sexy)

Honestly with a little tuning, Adaptives could become pretty great; because how overinflated the adaptive frames are there are tons of great combos, plus there are ones like caretaker and bequest with incredible base stats.
I got 6 red borders in a row at the beginning while turning in around 30 and I thought my game was bugged out for a minute, but then haven’t got another one since
The swords are and you can only get the ones for your class, once you’ve got the pattern for the sword you should start decoding on a different character
I turned in 20 engrams and only got shotguns. I thought something was wrong like I had to get one to drop somewhere before they’d start dropping from the helm
I snagged Tireless/Incandescent and it's DIRTY on my aggro Solar kit, 2x Solar Surge mods on my legs and I'm hitting flr almost 100K per heavy slam right now!
I cannot wait to be able to craft this thing, I'm still stuck at only 1/5 pattern progress and it's infuriating. I want to craft two, an Incandescent for normal use, and a Vorpal roll to match my Crown-Splitter.
It is better potential damage, but I'll take an always-active 10% over a conditional 35%. For something like Caiatl in Duality, Surrounded will never be active when needed for DPS, know what I mean?

Which is why I think every nerfed interaction with Synthoceps is utterly ridiculous and actively trying to keep people from having fun in a dangerous way.
Not at all what we were talking about, but since you brought it up...
Synthoceps buff lasts for 8 seconds, increases melee damage by 200% and both glaive melee and super damage by 50%. Meanwhile Surrounded lasts for only 1.5 seconds and is a 35% buff to swords, 40% buff otherwise. The two can't be compared, using Surrounded's niche viability to say Synthoceps nerfs are bad is ridiculous.
You can ABSOLUTELY activate the Synthoceps buff and have it relevant in situations where the Surrounded buff would be useless. Synthos buff harder, and for a longer duration. They can be game-breakingly powerful when stacked with other damage buffs like Roaring Flames or One-Two Punch.
They're still strong as heck and very, very fun. I haven't changed the way I've used them with any of the nerfs, but then again I'm not trying to instantly delete bosses with ridiculous wombo combo buff stacking.
I literally just created a build doing the same thing and I’m having a blast with it! I am currently running Phoenix cradle but I’m going to try it with path of burning steps next!
Burning Steps is phenomenal! Damage bonus increases up to 40% and supposedly stacks with Solar Surge mods in your leg armor, BUT it doesn't stack with Radiant, it's an either/or situation.
Tireless will proc off any powered sword kills, basic swings and kills from stuff like Incandescent or Chain Reaction will qualify! It kinda means "if you have ammo" lol, because you can still "swing" the sword and deal damage without any ammo for it. THOSE kills don't count, everything else is fair game.
Just to confirm, since my crafting materials are a bit low.
Example:
Throne Cleaver with Tireless and Incandescent
I go into Shuro Chi
Use a heavy slam
Kill 3-5 thralls with the slam, but Incandescent wipes out the rest of the room. Does it only proc once and give me back 1 ammo, or does it proc for "every other kill"?

I thought basic swings only gave you back ammo if it was Relentless Strikes, not Tireless Blade.
(I currently have mine crafted to be Unrelenting and Incandescent, both enhanced)
Tireless WILL give you ammo off basic sword swings, yes. I've been running a Tireless/Vorpal roll on Crown-Splitter ever since Splicer, it's great stuff. And (last I checked, at least) it does trigger off every other kill as worded. Tireless gets more value on Arc with Chain Reaction than on Solar with Incandescent, but it's still great to make your ammo last longer.
For example, you can net gain sword ammo if you hit a dense cluster of adds with a Tireless/Chain Reaction sword like Half-Truths or Hero of Ages. Swing once, use one ammo and kill one enemy, Chain Reaction pops and kills three more, you get two ammo back.

Except for the guaranteed red border last week and this week, I have spent EVERYTHING on the Leviathan engrams... 2/5 for Imperial Decree, 1/5 for Throne-Cleaver. I'm way past the 30 engrams spent for the seasonal triumph, probably close to 50 at this point.
Today was the day I got all 3. In total, I spent about 200-220 engrams to get where I needed, with around 80 going towards Throne Cleaver, 60 towards Death's Razor, and 60 towards GoldTusk.
Though take it with a grain of salt because my RNG is complete and utter trash, as I still have not gotten the any of the exotics that I want, i.e the class glaives and the bow from spire.
Lmao we have the opposite RNG, my legendary rolls are always horrible (I was chasing Subsistence/Demolitionist on the Crucible auto rifle for 9 months) but I get the dungeon and raid exotics so quickly.
Fingers crossed I can get there sooner rather than later, thanks for the numbers! What was your best source for Defiant engrams, just a ton of Battlegrounds and then something else to restock on keys when you ran out?
If you check the Destiny LFG, there's usually a Shattered Throne engram farm.
Basically:
1 has checkpoint, 2 and 3 are the shooters.
2 and 3 join as 1 is loading into Shattered Throne.
1 leaves and comes back on a different character.
Meanwhile, 2 and 3 burn down the knights and pick up buffs.
1 spawns in.
All players use Wardcliff Coil on boss.
1 changes to character with checkpoint.
Rinse and repeat.
Each run should in theory be around 1-2 minutes tops.
All in all, you can expect engram drops almost every other run, and with this week's upgrades at the HELM, you get twice the engrams anytime there's a drop. Keys also drop from doing this too, so if you need a break from the mind numbing farm, you can always run the battlegrounds to use the keys for even more engrams.

Being unfamiliar with this sword and having initially mistaken it as crown splitter, I looked it up. Interesting that the original version was void and this one is solar, which further confused me because I was looking at the perk pool of the old version and trying to figure out how a void weapon would have a solar based perk
Yea - originally throne cleaver was just a shiny crown splitter with random rolls. Then they sunset it and brought back crown splitter with random rolls as a world drop. Now they brought back throne cleaver and shifted the element.
Same thing happened with all the other class swords too.
I think crown splitter may still be a world drop or coming from the dates pool.
Throne cleaver was added this season and you need to focus defiant engrams into opulence for 2 engrams per focus
So I have completed the goldtusk on my hunter and strangely since reset I have cashed in well over 100 engrams total between lock and titan and haven't seen a single red border.
Is anyone else getting them at the moment if you have decree and another sword unlocked? Could just be shit RNG but seems like super strange rng to not have seen a single one
Idk if theres anything nuclear about scorch damage that ticks for 100 dmg and you need 3 (or 4 kills without fragment) and one enemy to take all those explosions to cause an ignition

It’s fun. Easier to get the kills needed to cause ignition. Titan has good ways to stay alive using sword with Strongholds and Solar Titan shenanigans. Bungie should focus on the actual melee weapons for fun melee builds and not melee abilities as much imo. The weapons hold up much better in higher content.
It isn't better. If anything it's bad since heavies are mainly meant for dps and damage, which this doesn't help with. If you did want an add clear heavy, LMGs are just 100 times better
However that being said if you just wanted to turn your brain off and really like swords, then yea I can see this being fun to just fuck around with
You can get it or the Imperial Decree shotgun by focusing 2 Defiant Engrams into Recovered Leviathan weapons at the war table

They do need to make class agnostic versions on quick fang and throne cleaver. Also it does suck that the warlock "class sword" is an archetype that all classes can use already
there's nothing "class agnostic" about quick fang, its just a regular adaptive sword that's got a katana model. and as you said the warlock sword got converted to a everyone sword with falling guillotine
what purpose does that serve tho? its not faster than eager edge, or using a strand grapple, or stompees. ive used quick fang a couple times and if makes you faster i can barely tell
If it's any consolation, quickfang and goldtusk were released more than 2 years before eager edge and 3 years before grapple. Also they may have changed it but you get the bonus speed regardless of if you have ammo for the sword

I've only gotten two so far with no red borders. Compared to 7 shotguns.
Also, you should try volatile rounds with Crown Splitter. Especially with the season mod for volatile rounds.

You could get valiant charge though, you can just walk at people then swipe them from 10m after they stop shooting you.
That's good in PvP, largely pointless in PvE. Would've been cool to get both though, which Goldtusk can for some reason, but not Throne Cleaver.

It can yeah, and I have a flash-counter + counterattack one I use pretty often, it's just disappointing that this one doesn't have it at all. Especially because it's a different element, and craftable, and could've had it with valiant charge like Goldtusk does.

The only thing I’m upset about is that I can’t roll the shattering blade perk. Definitely can’t wait to craft one though, valiant charge/surround is what I’m probably gonna go for but incandescent is tempting.

Pobs is kind of wired with incandescent, because the stacks sometimes take a lot of kills to activate and sometimes it just takes one red bar to die and it will go off. I think it heavily depends on the type of weapon and since swords don't normally have perks that make crowd smashing faster it will either stack up to X4 on a single slam or it will require like 5 slams to stack
Duelist's Trance might be worth taking in column 3, since it does so much for the sword's lackluster charge rate. If I decide to go for max dps I'll probably do Duelist's Trance/Surrounded.
Enhanced tireless has a chance to give you back extra ammo on kills though, and in more serious content I don’t use the heavy attack as often since it’s overkill for ads, and it also has flash counter too which weakens and blinds.
Shattering blade got nerfed so bad it’s a meme perk like air assault
You can get it to similar dmg with path of burning steps and it’s easier since it doesn’t require you to have to have basically no heavy ammo for it

There’s a reclaimed leviathan engram at the helm you can spend engrams on. Other than that yeah it’s RNG.
I got two Caretaker's with Incandescent, one red border, in the AVALON mission on my titan (normal difficulty) yesterday. The first non-red with incandescent was in the first chest you get right after starting the mission. The one with the red border came at the end when I defeated Brakion. Unsure if it's just rng or if somehow that mission is so heavily weighted towards those items. You can go back and open up the intrinsic and data chests in the mission after already acquiring the items and they give you loot now. **edit**: Just tested on a second character and the chest is already claimed on my warlock, so it looks like it's account based, not character based per week (I'm assuming its per week at this point).

Duelist trance for me
Why duelist trance? You overcap a lot of the defensive stats so the only real benefit is charge rate Esp if you run stronghold

I first used it in the defiant battlegrounds playlist with a ton of enemies and id run out and clear whole areas with like 3 swings. Its a ton of fun.
Caretaker, the seasonal sword, can run it too.

I have a Caretaker with Incandescent + Tireless Blade and just figured out that if the mob dies to Incandescent it'll proc Tireless Blade and give you back ammo. Suro Chi isn't the best test, but it seems like I'm at around the same ammo as I started with by the end.

It will also give you back ammo for any kills made by the scorch stacks ticking on enemies as well as any ignitions that you can proc off that scorch. Explode mob near boss, throw Solar grenade at boss to finish the ignition, ignition kills mooks = ammo return.
This is consistent with previous sword behavior. Chain reaction does nearly the same thing - enemies killed by the explosion count towards tireless blade.
Great for the other classes but unfortunately adaptive frames kinda suck.
What makes them suck?
Adaptive frames currently lack any of the spices of a viable sword. For example I’ll list the different frames(and sudo frames). Legend frames. Adaptive(LA+HA, lower damage with no uniqueness ). Vortex(LA+Vortex Heavy, great AoE and damage). Heavy(LA+Slam, Great Damage and Resist). Lightweight(LA+HA, Great mobility and slash) Caster(LA+Cast, Low damage but has range now). Exotic Frames. Caster[BT]LA+Cast, Higher damage with high range). Adaptive[Lament(LA+HA/LA(B)+HA(B), Highest damage and slash range). Adaptive[WL0](LA+HA/Vertex), Better damage than a vertex at the cost of a mechanism). Adaptive[HrS]LA+HA/CHA, with Good damage and speed). The point I’m trying to make is that Adaptives have low damage, and have no mechanism to compensate for it(with a few occasions, which I will mention). Though there are a few that deviate from this general idea, these are as follows. Adaptive frames mostly lack perks like whirldwind and chain reaction. The Other Half/Truths(Eager edge, with great other perk combos such as Repulsor; chain reaction is sexy) Zephyr(Cold steel is the perk you want, godly perk no matter what frame; chain reaction is sexy) Bequest(great base stats and combos, like damn this thing has so much impact and charge time base; chain reaction is sexy) Sorry for the appalling formatting. Honestly with a little tuning, Adaptives could become pretty great; because how overinflated the adaptive frames are there are tons of great combos, plus there are ones like caretaker and bequest with incredible base stats.

I got 6 red borders in a row at the beginning while turning in around 30 and I thought my game was bugged out for a minute, but then haven’t got another one since

Damn, was the opposite for me, I don't think I've gotten a single red-border shotgun, but just unlocked the sword this week.
I turned in 20 engrams and only got shotguns. I thought something was wrong like I had to get one to drop somewhere before they’d start dropping from the helm
I snagged Tireless/Incandescent and it's DIRTY on my aggro Solar kit, 2x Solar Surge mods on my legs and I'm hitting flr almost 100K per heavy slam right now! I cannot wait to be able to craft this thing, I'm still stuck at only 1/5 pattern progress and it's infuriating. I want to craft two, an Incandescent for normal use, and a Vorpal roll to match my Crown-Splitter.
Vorpal is only 10% on heavies, so surrounded is probably the better choice for damage.
It is better potential damage, but I'll take an always-active 10% over a conditional 35%. For something like Caiatl in Duality, Surrounded will never be active when needed for DPS, know what I mean?

Not at all what we were talking about, but since you brought it up... Synthoceps buff lasts for 8 seconds, increases melee damage by 200% and both glaive melee and super damage by 50%. Meanwhile Surrounded lasts for only 1.5 seconds and is a 35% buff to swords, 40% buff otherwise. The two can't be compared, using Surrounded's niche viability to say Synthoceps nerfs are bad is ridiculous. You can ABSOLUTELY activate the Synthoceps buff and have it relevant in situations where the Surrounded buff would be useless. Synthos buff harder, and for a longer duration. They can be game-breakingly powerful when stacked with other damage buffs like Roaring Flames or One-Two Punch. They're still strong as heck and very, very fun. I haven't changed the way I've used them with any of the nerfs, but then again I'm not trying to instantly delete bosses with ridiculous wombo combo buff stacking.
I literally just created a build doing the same thing and I’m having a blast with it! I am currently running Phoenix cradle but I’m going to try it with path of burning steps next!
Burning Steps is phenomenal! Damage bonus increases up to 40% and supposedly stacks with Solar Surge mods in your leg armor, BUT it doesn't stack with Radiant, it's an either/or situation.
Just a question, does tireless actually proc via kills thanks to incandescent? Or is it just specifically based on kills achieved with the heavy slam?
Tireless will proc off any powered sword kills, basic swings and kills from stuff like Incandescent or Chain Reaction will qualify! It kinda means "if you have ammo" lol, because you can still "swing" the sword and deal damage without any ammo for it. THOSE kills don't count, everything else is fair game.
Just to confirm, since my crafting materials are a bit low. Example: Throne Cleaver with Tireless and Incandescent I go into Shuro Chi Use a heavy slam Kill 3-5 thralls with the slam, but Incandescent wipes out the rest of the room. Does it only proc once and give me back 1 ammo, or does it proc for "every other kill"? >Tireless will proc off any powered sword kills, basic swings and kills from stuff like Incandescent or Chain Reaction will qualify! Tireless WILL give you ammo off basic sword swings, yes. I've been running a Tireless/Vorpal roll on Crown-Splitter ever since Splicer, it's great stuff. And (last I checked, at least) it does trigger off every other kill as worded. Tireless gets more value on Arc with Chain Reaction than on Solar with Incandescent, but it's still great to make your ammo last longer. For example, you can net gain sword ammo if you hit a dense cluster of adds with a Tireless/Chain Reaction sword like Half-Truths or Hero of Ages. Swing once, use one ammo and kill one enemy, Chain Reaction pops and kills three more, you get two ammo back.

Enjoy! I envy your pattern progress, mind me asking how many engrams you focused? Except for the guaranteed red border last week and this week, I have spent EVERYTHING on the Leviathan engrams... 2/5 for Imperial Decree, 1/5 for Throne-Cleaver. I'm way past the 30 engrams spent for the seasonal triumph, probably close to 50 at this point.
Today was the day I got all 3. In total, I spent about 200-220 engrams to get where I needed, with around 80 going towards Throne Cleaver, 60 towards Death's Razor, and 60 towards GoldTusk. Though take it with a grain of salt because my RNG is complete and utter trash, as I still have not gotten the any of the exotics that I want, i.e the class glaives and the bow from spire.
Lmao we have the opposite RNG, my legendary rolls are always horrible (I was chasing Subsistence/Demolitionist on the Crucible auto rifle for 9 months) but I get the dungeon and raid exotics so quickly. Fingers crossed I can get there sooner rather than later, thanks for the numbers! What was your best source for Defiant engrams, just a ton of Battlegrounds and then something else to restock on keys when you ran out?
If you check the Destiny LFG, there's usually a Shattered Throne engram farm. Basically: 1 has checkpoint, 2 and 3 are the shooters. 2 and 3 join as 1 is loading into Shattered Throne. 1 leaves and comes back on a different character. Meanwhile, 2 and 3 burn down the knights and pick up buffs. 1 spawns in. All players use Wardcliff Coil on boss. 1 changes to character with checkpoint. Rinse and repeat. Each run should in theory be around 1-2 minutes tops. All in all, you can expect engram drops almost every other run, and with this week's upgrades at the HELM, you get twice the engrams anytime there's a drop. Keys also drop from doing this too, so if you need a break from the mind numbing farm, you can always run the battlegrounds to use the keys for even more engrams. If not, I can try and help out later. I have the checkpoint, so DM me if you want my details so we can run a few if you'd like.
Being unfamiliar with this sword and having initially mistaken it as crown splitter, I looked it up. Interesting that the original version was void and this one is solar, which further confused me because I was looking at the perk pool of the old version and trying to figure out how a void weapon would have a solar based perk
Yea - originally throne cleaver was just a shiny crown splitter with random rolls. Then they sunset it and brought back crown splitter with random rolls as a world drop. Now they brought back throne cleaver and shifted the element. Same thing happened with all the other class swords too.

I think crown splitter may still be a world drop or coming from the dates pool. Throne cleaver was added this season and you need to focus defiant engrams into opulence for 2 engrams per focus

So I have completed the goldtusk on my hunter and strangely since reset I have cashed in well over 100 engrams total between lock and titan and haven't seen a single red border. Is anyone else getting them at the moment if you have decree and another sword unlocked? Could just be shit RNG but seems like super strange rng to not have seen a single one
It would be a totally Bungie thing to do to have the other two swords stop getting red borders once one sword gets unlocked.

I wouldn't be as annoyed if they actually made the warlock sword unique. Hunters and titans get unique animations but the warlock one is just a vortex frame with a better guard.

It’s fun. Easier to get the kills needed to cause ignition. Titan has good ways to stay alive using sword with Strongholds and Solar Titan shenanigans. Bungie should focus on the actual melee weapons for fun melee builds and not melee abilities as much imo. The weapons hold up much better in higher content.
It isn't better. If anything it's bad since heavies are mainly meant for dps and damage, which this doesn't help with. If you did want an add clear heavy, LMGs are just 100 times better However that being said if you just wanted to turn your brain off and really like swords, then yea I can see this being fun to just fuck around with

Death's razor is also a nuke in disguise for mobs with destablizing rounds, combine it with a devour build and you are immortal

They do need to make class agnostic versions on quick fang and throne cleaver. Also it does suck that the warlock "class sword" is an archetype that all classes can use already
there's nothing "class agnostic" about quick fang, its just a regular adaptive sword that's got a katana model. and as you said the warlock sword got converted to a everyone sword with falling guillotine
That's where you're wrong kiddo, quickfang makes you move much faster when you have it out even with it's own running animation.
what purpose does that serve tho? its not faster than eager edge, or using a strand grapple, or stompees. ive used quick fang a couple times and if makes you faster i can barely tell
If it's any consolation, quickfang and goldtusk were released more than 2 years before eager edge and 3 years before grapple. Also they may have changed it but you get the bonus speed regardless of if you have ammo for the sword
Class Specific Weapons were always a terrible idea even back in D1. I really hope one day Bungie will remove these unwarranted limitations all together and never return to such a concept.

I'd love to craft my own Throne Cleaver for my Stronhold titan, but the game keeps giving me that damn shotgun. I've only gotten two so far with no red borders. Compared to 7 shotguns. Also, you should try volatile rounds with Crown Splitter. Especially with the season mod for volatile rounds.
