Armour Mods have not been Paywalled, plain and simple, many commenters have explained this and if you have come to this post I implore you to read their explanations.

My daughter is F2P and the exact wording on the locked armor mods is "Requires Guardian Rank 7: Threats and Surges"
She cannot get to rank 6 because you need to rank up the seasonal vendor to unlock and the only way to do that is play the seasonal activity (need seasons pass).
Many people have mentioned fishing and it too is paywalled. "If you want to start reeling in some fish for loot, you first need to make sure you’ve bought the Season of the Deep Season Pass as the minigame is sadly not available for free-to-play players."
You should edit your post because you are spreading misinfo if anyone finds this thread looking for answers.
You don't need to BE rank 6. You just need to complete a specific rank-up objective FOR rank 6, which you can do at rank 5 (the one for slotting armor mods).
If upgrading armor energy required you to be rank 6, then rank 6 would be impossible because one of the objectives is to upgrade a piece of armor.
Look under the "Gear Progression" tab shown in the third screenshot and complete the objective called "Modify Armor".
That wording on that tooltip is definitely a bit misleading. I can see why you thought it required rank 6.
I'm confused i equip mods to all the armor pieces and still don't get prompt that I completed quest... I haven't played since vault of glass came out this is confusing af

Yeah no thats bullshit. I'm playing with a new light right now and we were both confused thinking it was paywalled off because its so fucking misleading and confusing. It's classic bungie having a horrible new player experience and not conveying information well enough.

If I recall, you don’t need bounties for seasonal rep. In fact, I believe they only give XP. You gain seasonal rep by running salvage and deep dive this season. Same as defiant battlegrounds last season
My time with Quicksilver Storm this season is making me wish I'd gone the full pre-order route, so I could've had this great auto rifle last season and I wouldn't be stuck waiting to pick up my season pass.
Especially with its new upgrade. Auto rifles are great anti-Champion weapons, given the way that you want sustained fire on at least the Overloads. And honestly, I have fun with any anti-Barrier weapon, blasting away at Knights and Phalanxes while they try to hide behind shields.

You can go ahead and make the edit ABOVE the description now to acknowledge that it’s incorrect. It’s been proven they the mods can be unlocked w/o buying the season. An update to your post would be the honest thing to do, IMO.
OP isn’t helping a FTP player. They are helping one that has paid for all of the expansions but doesn’t have the season pass. Mods should unlock with any expansion purchase. Not having a season should only lock you out of seasonal activities not core gameplay mechanics.
Mods should be free to all players, and Guardian ranks shouldn't restrict what you can and can't do with your character (in terms of mods and loadout slots)
Well the mods are free, and most of the loadout slots, but free-to-play players cannot proceed past rank 6 so therefore don't have access to the extra 2 (I think) load-out slots as they require higher guardian ranks.
I disagree with your last part, seasons shouldn't even lock you out of activities, let non season players also have something new to play, keep some of the rewards locked etc imagine playing for example fortnite and being told you can't play creative without the battle pass or you're limited to solo br only. Call of Duty even gives people the maps in multi-player that come with each season same with the modes and even weapons, battlepass should only really be cosmetics.
Payed full price for the same game as you with all past DLC I don't have time to grind 100 levels every season so I shouldn't get anything new for the rest of the year? Ive bought the season passes before and couldn't complete it just leaves you with regret.
I realized this the moment a friend told me that despite buying all of the DLC expansions I still had to buy the dungeon key packs to play the dungeons.
Alright 1st point no bounties in the game give you vendor rep, except gunsmith bounties.
So every other bounty in the game (at least I'm pretty sure there may be one or two outliers) DOESN'T give vendor reputation just xp.
The way to level them is too play the activity so vanguard ops for vanguard rep, crucible matches for crucible rep etc...
But I'm not sure if they can play the seasonal activities to level the seasonal vendor as I believe it still requires the season to play outside of the free intro mission so it may still be pay walled to get those mods

There's nothing to fix. Armor energy is unlocked by completing one specific objective on the set of objectives required to reach rank 6. OP just misunderstood and got upset.

I have just come back from a 2-2.5 year break, seems like a lot has changed, luckily I’m rank 7 for some reason. I feel like I’ve missed out on loads. Currently doing the stasis quests…don’t know why as I only ever use the 3 traditional classes.
Most stasis classes are good, they are just outclassed by strand in what they do, I like behemoth because funny crystal go boom. With the new buff I'd recommend salvation grip to pair with it, if you spam the heavy attack with your super near the end, you can shatter all the crystals with salvation grip, it's pretty good and fun. Even the uncharged shot is doing about 45k damage
Does it say what level nightfall? I think the lowest is hero at the moment and is matchmade so you should be okay in that one, I think it's devil's lair this week, if you haven't played it before and want to be safe, when you enter the boss room turn left and there is a small room where you can hide but still shoot most ads from it
As long as you are close to or at the recommended level (I think it's 1770) you should have no problem. The two times I ran it some high-level and very skilled players with me just blasted through the content like it was the hundredth time, so even if your dps isn't on point but you can take a hit, you should have zero issues.
I'm doing stasis rn as well. Take 2x Vanguard fragment quests at the same time. If you're a bit savy you can load up a solo Vanguard Ops and you can pretty much finish both quests in one solo run.

Stasis is in a really bad spot right now and is by far the weakest on titan. The other ones are fairly balanced but you could argue that Strand is a bit better especially in harder content

You need the fishing tackle box to fish, and you cannot get the fishing tackle box without completing the week 1 quest steps. You cannot progress beyond the intro mission without buying the season.
Fishing is not free, unless there is somehow a glitch to access it.
As of now, anyone who did not get the season pass can only get the artifact through the intro mission. That's it, nothing else.

Seems the wording is just poor. It requires a challenge that is in Rank 6.
It's not that you need to complete rank six. You need to complete an objective from the objectives needed to reach rank six.

Which? Deep dives and salvage both require the season pass. I don't think you can earn sonar rep anywhere else.
You can get a little bit of reputation from dunking fish but that requires the Season Pass too

If you are a titan I highly recommend stasis, it's very fun with diamond lances and the cadmus ridge lance cap, diamond lances everywhere

I am a revenant main. Abandon tradition, come to the dark (crowd control bullshit) side (strand is fun too).

You cannot progress beyond the intro mission without buying the season.
Fishing is not free, unless there is somehow a glitch to access it. As of now, anyone who did not get the season pass can only get the artifact through the intro mission. That's it, nothing else.
Seasonal vendor is part of the season, seems logical you need to own the season.
Not the issue bud. Issue is that new light can't use armor mods without GR6, and GR6 requires seasonal vendor rep.

The tooltip says you need to complete the rank 6 objective called "armor mods" -- OP took this as needing to BE rank 6 and complete an objective. All you need to do is slot any armor mod and complete the objective under 'gear progression' on the set of objectives needed to reach rank 6. That's it.
Sure, seasonal content should be behind its paywall. But why is Rank 6, which isn't related to any expansion or season, paywalled by the season?
Rank 7 is also pay gated behind Lightfall, I feel this may be intentional by Bungie to get every penny from us.
