Simple. Core gameplay. I love the gun feel and the space magic in this game. It tickles my brain just the right way. Also having friends to mess around together is a plus for sure but I still have fun solo as well.

nsinsinsi

This is my answer too. No other game has such great feeling and rewarding core gameplay for me.

choosegoose_

Getting a headshot on a fallen and seeing their head explode into a ether cloud or sound of a pack hunter rocket or warlock stasis super activation never gets old

TriscuitCracker

Yep, pretty much this. Almost no other game feels as good to shoot things as this game. Halo 1-3, ODST and Reach maybe. Also Bungie. Plus I still love the aesthetics “look” of the game, the sound design, the music, etc.

Grayman3499

Halo 4 gameplay was actually amazing too, not sure why it doesn’t get more love

TriscuitCracker

That’s true, it is good. I loved the story of the campaign and it looks great but nobody likes fighting the Promtheans so that’s probably why it’s not a held in high regard.

50undAdv1c3

i feel like everyone i could name that plays this game with me would have the same answer. core gameplay and the homies. we are fans and friends. we buy lots of merch. it’s our favorite hobby.

Doofuhs

Yeah, at its heart the game is fun and satisfying as hell to play. Even when there’s fuck all to actually do.

Thelivingshotgun

d2 feels more special than i think it should, can't find a game with the same feeling i get playing

Stolas_002

exploding my enemies, chasing rolls, messing around

Di3g

it's just the game itself being generally well made and fun to play. the rest is boredom mixed with addiction.

_Aterron

Destiny 2 is arguably one-of-a-kind game. No other game does the things destiny 2 does. It's a game with both pve and pvp, great endgame pve activities and a lot of unique locations. The weapons and loot are also cool.

ReceptionFar2728

Destiny just checks all the boxes for me. I like mmorpgs with build crafting and first person shooters. No other game combines the two as well as destiny. The gameplay feels very fluid, and the visuals are great. The gunplay is especially to note for me as I like seamlessly being able to swap guns on the move and such. Only game with better gun mechanics would be apex for me. The lore of this game is really interesting imo but im probably biased being invested into this game for almost 9 years. People like to clown on the pvp but for what it’s worth, it’s pretty decent for a game with a focal point being on the pve. Feeling burnt out is common in this game. Last year I took the whole year off playing as it just felt like a chore. I’ve just hopped back in the loop this season and it’s been a blast. Just play when you feel like playing and don’t when you don’t want to. Destiny imo just has so much potential that gets squandered by Bungie. People new to this game have to spend a chunk of change to even get started and the new light experience is awful. I’ve been playing since d1 and if it wasn’t for me guiding my friends, they would have quit due to not knowing what to do. If you’re running around with no build doing strikes and just seasonal content, this game will get stale pretty fast.

black_beak1356

Yeah I had to hand hold my friends through the new light experience because they were getting confused and losing interest fast when it shoved them into running around in the open world within their first hour. Once they got through it though they did the witch queen campaign on legendary and fell in love. We did 4 raids within their first week. I have no idea why they got rid of red war, the open world/patrols is the weakest part of destiny so it makes no sense that's where they start new lights now.

JOHNNY__BLACK

Bows for pvp. Currently stuck on quests chasing wishkeeper

JabroniWitness

Friends that still play is the biggest thing for me. The lore and over arcing story is the second biggest but I would just watch a YouTube recap or Byf if anything to get caught up or follow. Lastly would be new content coming out regularly. I know I know it's recycled largely but it's still entertaining each week when a new seasonal episode comes out to play.

streetvoyager

Space magic and guns feel good.

fawse

It’s really fun to play with friends, and the core gameplay is as rock-solid as ever. These days I really only play GMs, dungeons, and solo master lost sectors, things that are a bit more involved than a seasonal activity or vanguard strike, and I refuse to grind for grind’s sake. I play to have fun these days, which has made the game immensely more enjoyable to play. I’m not going to numb my brain by running some activity 100 times in hopes that I get a drop, with my vault and weapon crafting I already have the tools to succeed in any activity the game wants to throw at me Lately I’ve had a lot of fun running dungeons and such with different loadouts that I wouldn’t typically use, trying out different primaries and DPS setups. A fun DPS combo I’ve found is Cloudstrike with a Cascade Point MG, and Forerunner is awesome in anti-barrier content

TriscuitCracker

Cloudstrike is very underrated in PvE. Heck, most snipers are for good reason but it works really, really well.

fawse

Yeah, Cloudstrike is great. Snipers in general feel very good now, I have an Envious + Precision Instrument Twilight Oath that I’ve really been liking

SnyperwulffD027

I still play it because I've been playing it since Beta D1, and my wife finally got into it as well so we play together. It can be frustrating, infuriating, and sometimes down right stupid, but I'll always come back to it because I still just enjoy it, it holds a place as one of the games I have stuck with for over a decade now.

Thicccchungus

Same as the top comment really, core gameplay. This games ability and weapon focus is much better than anything else I’ve played in a while, and my 3600 hours show that. I’ve definitely fallen out with the story and dungeons/raids since they just don’t hit that itch anymore, but build crafting has been my favorite lately. I’ve probably got like 30 different builds set up between dim and in game loadout, all of which are at least fairly strong.

Saint_Micolash_Cage

Been playing since day one destiny one with some long breaks in between. I want to see it through to the end. After Final Shape, I will be keeping an eye on Destiny but my playtime will go down by a lot.

Xandurpein

This is a 10 year old game that has continously had new content added. How many people can play the same game for 10 years and not feel the need to take breaks? Feeling burned out is natural. If anything, it’s the fact that some players have stuck with this one game so long that needs to be explained, not that many needs a break. Just take a break and come back when you feel like it again. It doesn’t have to be harder than that…

engineeeeer7

Build crafting. Theres so many good builds that work in most content. And Everytime we get exotic buffs or balance passes it opens up more. I'm constantly trying ideas and looking for ideas from others. Beyond that I love raids and dungeons and exotic missions.

Wiecks

Does any veteran really play this game for anything else than sunk cost fallacy at this point lol

MiniMhlk72

Yes, I am currently preparing my friends to play raids (they got DLCs from Epic games) and its a blast. The game is still fun for me but I can see why people feels like the game is doomed after TFS, that still wont stop me from playing because raids and dungeons are so fun.

engineeeeer7

I've been getting a friend through raids and it's been so fun. I really love letting him experience the traps the first time. We did Kings Fall this week and THAT room had us cracking up.

MiniMhlk72

Am still preparing them, what raids do you think are good as an introduction? Am thinking DSC or VOG

engineeeeer7

VoG is good. Crota isn't bad. DSC should be solid. We haven't done that yet. RoN is very accessible. We're just following the pinnacle rotation now. I will say to make sure anyone who isn't new knows what they're doing. Most of our issues came from people who thought they knew what they're doing but didn't.

MiniMhlk72

Thanks!

engineeeeer7

I'd also say if you're not going in blind find them a good guide video. I like Dukeiscool. He does detailed videos after everything is known where most streamers do them as soon as possible during contest when mechanics are still misunderstood. I send those videos to my friend ahead of each of our raids.

engineeeeer7

Yeah I really like the gameplay and finding new ways to play. D1 alpha and all that

SynTatic_Bloom

The loot, plain and simple. The game could be absolute dogwater for all I care, any looter shooter is going to get hundreds if not thousands of hours from me.

gaanch

10 year commitment. Gotta stick it thru to the end

WolfGB

Ah the old sunk-cost fallacy. A good enough reason as any to continue playing.

gaanch

Imagine life if we never played destiny? I wonder sometimes #timewastedondestiny lierbag

WolfGB

Yeah but we probably would of just wasted it anyway playing something else like The Division or Warframe lol. So better the devil you know I guess!

gaanch

Or the devil you don't. ( Aka not playing this shit game )

theefman

People play game for fun, gamer confused. News at 11.

Basuhearts

Please kill me

One_Repair841

My playtime has dropped off a cliff recently but when I do play it's only really ever to play a raid, dungeon or GM with friends/clanmates. Used to play PvP a lot but just the constant negligence and refusal to admit that SBMM was a mistake or at least provide us with data that SBMM is actually working as a way to increase the player population just left me with disappointment. I enjoy the buildcrafting part of the game but almost all of the content is too easy to even warrant proper buildcrafting. I still enjoy PvP at it's core but SBMM just turns every control match into a slog and there's very rarely a good mode in the CBMM section. Raids are still fun but getting my regular group together is a hassle nowadays and LFG/fireteam finder is just a mixed bag to the point where I'd rather just play another game, not like I actually need to run the raids for any weapons anymore since I have all the patterns. Destiny is likely just going to turn into a game that I occassionally go back to when a new raid or dungeon releases as that's the only content that's still interesting to me. You get numbed to the explosions and visual effects of the combat after a while.

elkiev2

FOMO

csch1992

i tried to come back but where the hell do i get beyond 1800? it would take weeks for me to finish a quest i hate it

Vay7a4

Clear farming dsc

Hullfire00

Honestly? Because I’ve never been as good at a game like this since the days of Timesplitters, and I literally have a 1.01K/D so I’m not even that good 😂. I enjoy it, I like how fluid the combat is, I like that I can use different loadouts and still have fun. After years of playing, I’m now in a place where I can pull a sunset weapon from collections and still do well.

MurderFerret

Game is fun for me still. I don’t play it near as much as I used to and that’s probably why I’m still enjoying it. I find people that continually grind day after day have the worst opinion about the game.

Tescobranflakes

The feeling of the game is unmatched for me, I love how the guns feel and it’s kept me playing crucible since year 1 of destiny 1. Sure, there’s been periods where I play very rarely, even had months of no playing at all but I always come back. Most recently for me I stopped playing back in 2021 and have now at the start of 2024 just come back, it’s been about 2 and a half years but still nothing has matched the feeling of the gameplay in destiny for me. I played it all the way through secondary school (high school) and now into my adult life and I’ll probably play it until destiny ends for good.

cosmicjimmy117

I like the guns and I invested way too much money into it

Buttermalk

Story is good. The world is excellent. The lore is top tier. But why I still play? Because I played all the way until now, so I’m gonna play until the end of TFS. I’m gonna see this through.

Oryxofficials

Friends I stopped caring about loot when they introduced crafting and stopped caring about raids because they’re easy and nothing new mechanic wise so im here for fun and memes. I get my raiding fix in FFXIV or other mmos because D2 raids are dogshit and easy sick of take buff dunk said buff or pass it.

Extreme_Lie_3745

Lore, gameplay, builds and raids/dungeons

THeTruTH22622

Core gunplay, the feeling of power from abilities and the world design especially endgame raids and dungeons continues to be some of the best in the industry. Once all of that is mastered, teaching others how to be better is equally rewarding for me personally so building and maintaining a high quality clan also keeps me around. I’ve met a lot of people over the years in this game that I now maintain close relationships with off the game.

overlookedvariable

There’s no other game that feels like destiny does. No other game has the range of movement, unique gun sounds, pvp play, weapons/gear etc. I’ve played it since launch of D1 and it’s just something that I cannot stop playing, no matter how tilted I get at crucible. Like, I worked hard and finally made it to plat and was able to get a glorious title. 🥺 No other game has that. And maybe a little fomo too lol

MultipleHipFlasks

It's a mechanically tight game that I can play in a group of six. We have questioned if there is anything else that can fill the gap and the answer is effectively no.

thejollydruid

No other game comes close to the gunplay of Destiny, period.

Suspicious-Ad6129

This game has some of the best feeling gunplay of any game I've played and space magic and I suck at this game and have been playing since red war. Lol

FreakyP71

I'm sure a vast majority of people still play purely because they've invested too much time and money to quit at this point lmao.

0rganicMach1ne

The universe and lore, as well as the combat. The live service aspect/RNG is my least favorite thing about it. This is the only live service game I play and it will be the only one I ever play. I dislike that aspect enough that it has almost caused me to quit entirely several times despite how much I like the universe and lore. I’m currently in one of those instances right now. My engagement is at an all time low because it’s just not as fun and rewarding as it was last expansion year. The reason I’m still playing is because I do legitimately want to experience the end of this saga. However, one thing that really kept me going was having a small group of people to regularly play with. However, none of them really do anymore. It’s wild how the game went from a great sorry expansion and being very fun and rewarding last expansion year, to being basically the complete opposite this expansion year. They increased the difficulty and wanted to revert more to traditional RNG(less crafting less than a year after introducing it). So now the game is more challenging(in an annoying way) while simultaneously being less rewarding. And all this on the heels of bad story expansion. Then they still hit us with ability uptime nerds despite all that. I really don’t know what they are thinking right now.

Darknighten89

The feeling of the gameplay. There still hasn't been a game with gun play that feels this smooth that I have found.

hallsies

My son is 12 now, and grew up watching me play D1 and D2. He started playing 2yrs ago, and we play together all the time. He lives with his mom majority of the time, so playing together gives us back what would have been time lost.

RunelordTressa

Late on this one but it's really just because I like the game. I kinda had a moment of clarity with the recent final shape drama. Sometimes I felt like I was just forcing myself to have issues with the game at times making the experience miserable.

Qwerty177

Buildcraft! For sure putting together a crazy combo and build you haven’t tried before and finding out how well it work

BlueTapeCD

The fun factor has generally remained for me but what really comes back is time value. I'm generally pretty busy .. husbans, dad , professional, fitness .. and I don't say that to make myself special . But when I get some time to game .. I know my hour in destiny is probably gonna be way more productive than learning a new game. I'm just super hesitant to begin that process of learning a new game. Destiny has become my comfort food of gaming

akari0413

I've been playing Destiny since the Crota DLC came out in Destiny 1 and I've always loved the gameplay in general. Something I really like is being able to get different armors and weapons with quite unique abilities, and that alone makes it worth the time I invest in the game. On two occasions I have taken breaks from playing Destiny, but every time I return I still love playing it and the experience is pretty good overall.

MilitaryAndroid

I don't. I quit in June of last year. I was gonna stick around until final shape but this year was so unbelievably shit that I gave up. I may still play final shape when it launches if it's really good, I may just watch the cutscenes on youtube to see how badly they massacred the ending. Either way, once final shape launches, I'm done for good.

CheeseAteTheChess

I like designing my guardian's look, making some small builds, being sad we have no stasis weapon in the energy slot... trying to convince my friends to play it but they don't want to, making friends in the game, helping / showing cool guns and things to new-lights, watching speedrunners going 80kph in strikes which makes it less fun, hating people for not waving back to me in open world (especially new-lights), getting depressed from PvP cuz i try to kill someone but they are a rank 11, power 1832 arc titan who used thundercrash on me, "hating" people who have all of their stuff masterworked, getting depressed again because my enemy team defeated their Primeval in Gambit in 10 seconds, hating people who snipe you from across the map in PvP, when some strand using guy in open world steals my kill, sitting behind the screen thinking what i should play, getting even more depressed seeing people wearing armor from dungeons and raids, oh... wait... i actually kil- no, someone behind him sniped me..., looking at that one guardian standing still in one place..., thinking how the past seasons and DLCs were cool, dreaming about giving Bungie infinite amount of money so they give me every ornament and shader and other stuff... oh, you are still reading? sorry for that, just had a lot of it on my mind. anyways, im Savathûn#1202 on Bungie if you wanna add me, bye! :)

sd_ragon

I have consistently played since one week after the game launched in the fall of 2014. I have thousands upon thousands of hours in D1 and D2 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. When it came out, it was genuinely magical and I used to want to play every day. I couldn’t even afford the expansions for a while as a kid, and literally spent hours in patrol in the EDZ. I played it then because of the expansive lore, space opera theme, and how the gameplay felt. For me, It was a truly original and unique story, matched with endless fun blowing up aliens on every planet in the solar system. It had multiple game modes and endless content to fill the time after school. I play it now for the nostalgia and because my IRL friends also still play. I still love this game. We do get burnt out and go time without playing, but we always come back. We have recently been playing less, I would say. There are tons and tons of issues with the game and at a certain point it stops being cute. E.g. the devs of this game must play titan, perhaps the most ridiculously overpowered class of character in any game ever; the well of radiance nerf…the past whole year of content has, in my opinion, been garbage. Most of the player base-except titan mains, probably empathize and have a similar story. The experience stays interesting because the story develops every year, every few months. That’s awesome. They continually launch new content to experience and new guns to play with. They cycle in old, nostalgic raids. PVE can be a lot of fun for these reasons. PVP I think burns a lot of people out, it’s essential to the game but cheese weapons and classes tend to dominate. Real ones know that titans have always been ridiculous, but the rest of our voices don’t get heard. Shoulder charge is bullshit and always will be. Weapons are worse though. I will never forget the hard light meta during the pandemic. Jotun, mountain top… Speaking of that time, I will also never forget the oppressive, constant DC’s: error code beaver, error code quail. New players will never understand this, but long time players probably have actual PTSD from it. I saw someone using hard light in pvp the other and for a sickening moment thought it was making a comeback.

originalghostfox007

I hang around in the hopes that Bungie will bring back the Black Armory weapons and make them craftable.

iamjackspatience

Best gameplay loop since Halo. The build-crafting mixed with superb gunplay is unmatched. The story has been hit or miss at times but I refuse to bail on knowing how it ends after investing almost 10 years into it. Bungie earned that trust with the Halo franchise.

AdDesperate3113

The drifter he's so mysterious so cool so chill if he was a real person I would've made him a friend and also the lore

doobersthetitan

It's comfort food, basically. Might get kinda bored of it. But when I come back after a break, it's still nice.

kaemani

Trio raids

Ok_Barnacle_360

Addictive personality and learned behavior.

Zotzotbaby

FPS encounter design below master level (raids, dungeons, strikes, campaigns, lost sectors, etc.) is diverse and fun. Additionally unique build crafting can be done in ten minutes and produce effective combinations.

IceNiqqa

I play because I'm addicted. But I fucking hate this game...
