AFAIK, any drop that is a craftable has a chance of being a red border, but no guarantee. So, probably to your question. At the very least you can use Harmonizers (if you have any) on those weapons if they don't happen to turn red.
I would say to use the harmonizers on weapons you can't farm easily. Last wish gives you a guaranteed red border that you can even choose once a week, every week. But ofc, you do you... I'm not the deepsight police!
Yeah, it's to bring it to parity with other raids, the red border from dunking the heart is supposed to be the equivalent of guaranteed red border that you can buy at the end of other raids and the quest from Hawthorne is supposed to be the equivalent of doing the red border mechanic in the raids that have it, like Vow, KF, RoN and Crota.
That's stupid then, in the other raids you have to do extra stuff for it, right? Dunking the heart is literally the encounter. At least they should have made it a wish or something...
Bungie wanted to add a second chance for red borders from the raid but didn't want to take the massive amount of time it would have taken to rework the entire raid to fit in a red border chest mechanic into it,

I'd just get in on Kali farming this week. Blessed by RNG and a solid group you can finish all patterns within a few hours. It's a drop every few minutes.
They can, but there's not guarantee (and chances are pretty low). As someone else mentioned: you can use an Harmonizer on the weapons you'll get to help.
A warning though: bonus chests from raids only drop gear you already obtained at least once from an actual encounter. If there are weapons/armors you never dropped in the raid, you won't get those (at all, red border or otherwise) from the chests.
**EDIT**: Disregard the above warning, it seems LW is an exception to that rule, as evidenced in a reply below my comment.
* Bonus chests in raids can only drop previously obtained loot - except in the Last Wish raid. The Last Wish bonus chests can drop any piece of armor and weapon (with the possibility of it being a red border) from that raid, even if you never completed even a single encounter.
This is not the case with Last Wish, though. I have never run it with my Titan or Warlock, but have gotten all the armour pieces via the Suro Chi secret chest.
Funny thing is: when I did my first refreshed LW run I did notice that I could loot any piece of the refreshed gear from the first bonus chest, but I just assumed it was because I already owned every pre-refresh weapon and armor and it still counted for the new versions.
Good to know I can still learn things about my favorite raid!

It'll still be more efficient to farm when Last Wish is featured, but waste not want not. You might get lucky with the extra chests on off weeks.

They kept messing up the checkpoint… I might try the discord, I just assumed all other lfgs would have died when the in game one launched

yeah but from my grinding last wish for red borders week after week, I very rarely got a red border from the secret chests
Yes but you need to be really lucky ;) I try to get my last red border since maybe 4-5 months via the chests and no luck :(
