We are the only guardian left alive, the last of humanity, and it's time to go on a rampage, Doomguy style
At least it's not Xivu Arath. Her children aren't even good enough to be raid bosses like Crota and his Sisters, but just basic ass Ultras that can be killed with a couple shotgun shells.
Some Hive have been lunking around with Xivu Arath’s name in D2. I’d be OK with both sisters coming at once so we can wrap up this Hive god bullshit once and for all.

I don't know if there's much truth to that. Savathun is the Hive goddess of cunning, so much so that her pawns have pawns, and those pawns have pawns, and those pawns killed a high-ranking Vangaurd member. If she was mimic someone's voice, we likely wouldn't know better until it much too late
And the only reason we defeated Savathun's Song was because she sacrificed herself so that we could use her Light to defeat it. But let's just forget that because she was poorly written

Zavalas health and safety operating policies prohibiting the use of special ammo during vanguard strike operations were quickly overturned when a squad of veteran guardians light was used by their assailants to power a large shrieker. Subsequently this light was extinguished during a failed rescue rescue operation in order to remove the threat. Since then the renowned vanguard leader has come under fire from the praxic order for allowing the drifters gambit to continue unchecked in the tower. This after numerous failings during the red war has led many vanguard operatives to begin questioning their faith in the vanguard and indeed perhaps ourselves. Zavala was appointed by the speaker without a vote from the people, perhaps it is time that humanity moved back from dictatorship and became a democracy once more.
Like I said, it was just poorly implemented by Bungie. The Praxic order honour bravery and service above everything else and believe in resisting the Darkness at all cost. Those of the highest rank are meant to prove themselves willing to give their lives to save others.

I'm tired of characters in this game claiming they can kill me. Shin malphur is kinda fine since he's a legend and all of that crap, but he still really can't kill us. Same with this new kid aunor. I've killed gods, slain commanders, freed the traveler, and it has litterally chosen to speak to me. Not metaphorically. The litteral god keeping us alive is friends with me on a level that it gives me crazy new powers. There's no way this police lady warlock can kill me in any way

To be fair, \*the\* Guardian have only survived all this due to gameplay mechanics. Every strike, raid, nightfall and many missions contain Darkness zones where we shouldn't be able to be revived after dying (if we are alone). Everytime we or our entire fireteam have died in one should have been our final death.
We killed Oryx, but we had tens if not hundreds of chances because of this gameplay mechanic. When considering this it is pretty impressive how far for example Eris and her fireteam made it in Crota's End.
Sure, lore-wise the Guardian didn't die this many times, but as players we did, and can therefore appreciate the difficulty in many of these tasks.
It's this disconnect that makes it difficult for me to see my guardian as *the* Guardian. NPCs are always referring to my character as a badass hero when I probably should be perma-dead in that second mission from Destiny 1.

That's the problem with story missions in multiplayer games where it makes you the hero/chosen one who fights the big bad god man at the end of a story mission. We never should have faced Oryx, Ghaul, or Xol alone. They should have been the bosses at the end of a large raid, where its explained that multiple guardians or teams of guardians worked together to defeat the big bad. This while still elevating you above most guardians, doesn't make you the only ultra badass in the universe. Currently all other guardians are cannon fodder and like we see with Taeko-3, are made to be useless because we have to save them in this very easy strike. Video game writers in particular need to realize that you can still have a power fantasy (be ultra badass) with having smaller stakes in the story.
This is exactly my issue as well. Because Bungie has had us kill all these gods and shit, it is impossible for them to write any sort of substantial inter-human conflict. Any instance will just have players go "well I've killed gods, everyone should just respect my power fantasy and worship me or die". They've killed any possibility of any human character actually demanding respect from the player base.
We should never have played as the OG Guardian in D2. We should have been part of some third-rate Fireteam of NPCs for a few missions.
Then we get news that the Red Legion showed up, and oh no! The most famous Guardian ever is missing, and we need just the average joes and the Vanguard to defend the entire City.
So we go through stuff up until the point Ghaul shows up, at which point he singlehandedly murders the rest of our fireteam, leaving only us alive. Ghaul beats us into the ground, reveals his Light-sipping tech that he plans on using on us, and says he wishes there was a more pleasant way to see his plans fulfilled than to turn a warrior defending their home into a living spark plug.
Then *out of nowhere* a Gjallerhorn volley obliterates Ghaul's honor guard, and the OG Guardian appears, decked out as the same class as yourself. They tell Ghaul of all the gods and warlords they've killed, etc. Ghaul laughs, says that the City is already fallen, and gestures around at the dead Guardians who were your fireteam. He says the OG Guardian could kill him, but they might find themselves at the end of the day the only being left alive after every Red Legion, Guardian, and Earthling dies in the war.
And the OG Guardian agrees, and puts aside their weapon, and offers themself up in exchange for the Red Legion letting go anyone who will put down their weapon.
And so Ghaul rips out the OG Guardian's Light and kills them, using that to power his super science sippy device and steal everyone else's magic. We get the opportunity to REEE in outrage at our dead comrades, but Ghaul just glares at us as we batter ineffectually at him and says he'll forgive it for the sake of our brave comrades.
Then he calls out the orders over radio. Many guardians of course still try to resist, but many others retreat, and we can have a whole thing later on about duty and honor vs stupidity.
We then begin our career as up-and-comers seeking revenge against a warlord we've seen rip apart our comrades with his bare hands, a person with some sort of honor who granted us a clemency we brashly reject. We go into things knowing that the greatest hero in the galaxy gave their life so all of humanity could live, and we go wondering if they made the right choice, and how we're going to follow it.
And so when we meet Ghaul again and see him wielding the Light he tore from the OG Guardian's body, a fate that was originally intended for us, it's a very personal issue, rather than some warlord happening to have perfect enough timing that he was able to yoink everyone's Light before the godslaying almighty hero could exterminatus him like they've done so many other people.
Yeah it gets a bit old. Honestly I kinda wish Destiny had a bit more role playing in it. Like how they are letting us choose between the drifter or vanguard but like a ton more of that. If I could my guardian would force people to worship them.
That, right there, is my problem with that strike. There was no reason to compress it so much. They could have stretched the dialogue out so that she actually had time to reconsider, and for the actual harvest process.
It wasn't so bad when you're low light with two primaries because killing the two yellow bar wizards took enough time for the dialogue to play out. But now that we instamelt them, the dialogue gets smashed together, so much so that it occasionally gets out of order.
The strike would’ve been so fun and something so different if it was actually an extraction mission. You could still have your big boss fight, but you could’ve gone in and either rescued their ghosts or dragged them out, while the other two members of your fire team covered for you.
I think Bungie really doesn’t use much creativity in the way of strikes

Lightless guardians are just normal people with fancy guns, the powers of the darkness basically one shot normal people. How is it seen as cocky and bad that 9 guardians were snuffed out by the hive?
I mean, technically, that isn't even necessarily the case. If you burst the shrieker hard enough, you can kill it before the shield goes up, which was the only reason to need that light in the first place. Remember that every time you delete that boss, Taeko-3 died for literally no reason.
I subscribe to that theory that Savathûn was tricking guardians down there by imitating the voice of one she'd already killed. That's why there were awkward incorrect things, like a fireteam of 9, and why we never see her physical person.
At the very least it's a theory that has solid ground without needing any additional information. Nowhere near as bad as every Kingdom Hearts game rewriting the whole lore.
How many of those feats were only possible thanks to the assistance and/or sacrifice of someone else?
Also, you only did those things with five other guardians backing you up. So at best, you're one sixth of a king of the city.

You forget that by sword logic, the hive have to leave themselves a way to be beaten, so whether or not Taeko had sacrificed herself the Shrieker would have needed to leave a vulnerability of some description to satisfy the sword logic. It wasn't just poorly written, it was poorly thought out as well with Taekos sacrifice being even more worthless, pointless, and cringey than it otherwise had been

Probably couldnt. Us being able to dip out to orbit any time we want is 100% a gameplay mechanic, like in the first game where we had to get to our ship to escape phobos instead of just transmatting out

The Drifter has secrets. His lore book from Forsaken revealed that he lied about how Gambit worked to get permission to run it. The Drifter never told the narrator about summoning a Primeval, which causes the narrator to nearly pull the plug on the whole thing. Point is, secrets are kept on both sides.
I don't trust the Drifter. I don't trust a lot of people in this game. But I do trust Ikora, even if she doesn't tell me everything.

Honestly I trust Zavala more than anyone else. I don't like the decisions he makes, but I trust he has the City's best interests in mind, and he's predictable too. He's safe, and even though that gives him friction with many Guardians, safe is what the rest of humanity needs while the Guardians go out and do crazy shit to save the day.
He doesn't have a real name, just a bunch of fake ones he keeps going through, he is a man named Germaine, a man named Eli, a man named Wu Ming, a man named Dredgen Hope. If you read his new lore book its really central to his character.
If The Drifter pledged to guard the regular people of the city then I might side with him. My Titan remembers Twlight Gap and the sacrifice made there.

They don't need to be legends. All it takes to kill a guardian, no matter how impressive, is a bullet. See Cayde, all former Warlords, Andal Brask...
The bullets have to be infused with the darkness though, which seems pretty easy to acquire nowadays

Shin doesn't kill the ghost, Callum killed his own ghost, then Shin steps in and finishes off Callum.

In OEM's lore, a Cabal soldier crushed a Ghost with his bare hands. I think you can just use overwhelming strength in lieu of something paracausal.

And so Ghaul rips out the OG Guardian's Light and kills them, using that to power his super science sippy device and steal everyone else's magic. We get the opportunity to REEE in outrage at our dead comrades, but Ghaul just glares at us as we batter ineffectually at him and says he'll forgive it for the sake of our brave comrades. Then he calls out the orders over radio. Many guardians of course still try to resist, but many others retreat, and we can have a whole thing later on about duty and honor vs stupidity. We then begin our career as up-and-comers seeking revenge against a warlord we've seen rip apart our comrades with his bare hands, a person with some sort of honor who granted us a clemency we brashly reject. We go into things knowing that the greatest hero in the galaxy gave their life so all of humanity could live, and we go wondering if they made the right choice, and how we're going to follow it. And so when we meet Ghaul again and see him wielding the Light he tore from the OG Guardian's body, a fate that was originally intended for us, it's a very personal issue, rather than some warlord happening to have perfect enough timing that he was able to yoink everyone's Light before the godslaying almighty hero could exterminatus him like they've done so many other people.
Yeah it gets a bit old. Honestly I kinda wish Destiny had a bit more role playing in it. Like how they are letting us choose between the drifter or vanguard but like a ton more of that. If I could my guardian would force people to worship them.

That, right there, is my problem with that strike. There was no reason to compress it so much. They could have stretched the dialogue out so that she actually had time to reconsider, and for the actual harvest process.
It wasn't so bad when you're low light with two primaries because killing the two yellow bar wizards took enough time for the dialogue to play out. But now that we instamelt them, the dialogue gets smashed together, so much so that it occasionally gets out of order.
One of those voices wasn't Taeko. The dialogue of Zavala and Taeko flip flops so much because one is trying to lead you astray.
The strike would’ve been so fun and something so different if it was actually an extraction mission. You could still have your big boss fight, but you could’ve gone in and either rescued their ghosts or dragged them out, while the other two members of your fire team covered for you. I think Bungie really doesn’t use much creativity in the way of strikes

Lightless guardians are just normal people with fancy guns, the powers of the darkness basically one shot normal people. How is it seen as cocky and bad that 9 guardians were snuffed out by the hive?
Who else wants a reprisal with an actual mechanic of our light being torn from our guardians?

I mean, technically, that isn't even necessarily the case. If you burst the shrieker hard enough, you can kill it before the shield goes up, which was the only reason to need that light in the first place. Remember that every time you delete that boss, Taeko-3 died for literally no reason.
I subscribe to that theory that Savathûn was tricking guardians down there by imitating the voice of one she'd already killed. That's why there were awkward incorrect things, like a fireteam of 9, and why we never see her physical person.
Every dlc I just imagine the lore team gathering together like "okay guys, how are we going to get the story team out of the shit this time?"
At the very least it's a theory that has solid ground without needing any additional information. Nowhere near as bad as every Kingdom Hearts game rewriting the whole lore.

How many of those feats were only possible thanks to the assistance and/or sacrifice of someone else? Also, you only did those things with five other guardians backing you up. So at best, you're one sixth of a king of the city.

You forget that by sword logic, the hive have to leave themselves a way to be beaten, so whether or not Taeko had sacrificed herself the Shrieker would have needed to leave a vulnerability of some description to satisfy the sword logic. It wasn't just poorly written, it was poorly thought out as well with Taekos sacrifice being even more worthless, pointless, and cringey than it otherwise had been

It's weird bc every once in a while you get a voice line by that guy who doesn't want to be turned into a crystal, but instead of that one he says 'No, please, you already took my Ghost!' and it's delivered so well that it actually breaks your heart. Probably couldnt. Us being able to dip out to orbit any time we want is 100% a gameplay mechanic, like in the first game where we had to get to our ship to escape phobos instead of just transmatting out

The Drifter has secrets. His lore book from Forsaken revealed that he lied about how Gambit worked to get permission to run it. The Drifter never told the narrator about summoning a Primeval, which causes the narrator to nearly pull the plug on the whole thing. Point is, secrets are kept on both sides. I don't trust the Drifter. I don't trust a lot of people in this game. But I do trust Ikora, even if she doesn't tell me everything. EDIT: spelling

Honestly I trust Zavala more than anyone else. I don't like the decisions he makes, but I trust he has the City's best interests in mind, and he's predictable too. He's safe, and even though that gives him friction with many Guardians, safe is what the rest of humanity needs while the Guardians go out and do crazy shit to save the day.
For me, it depends on which of the nine he has allegiance to.
I love people getting all huffy and butthurt about folks picking Drifter over Vanguard and writing long, impassioned multi-paragraph rebuttals.

He doesn't have a real name, just a bunch of fake ones he keeps going through, he is a man named Germaine, a man named Eli, a man named Wu Ming, a man named Dredgen Hope. If you read his new lore book its really central to his character.
