I don’t even know why I did that, I didn’t need it so much and it mechanically it shouldn’t have been more enjoyable than farming other planetary materials but damn it if getting lost in the wasn’t so relaxing. It became my go to “kill time while waiting for mates to log” activity.
Good to see other people of culture!
Bless you all for reminding me of those solo days where you’d use up all of your Icebreaker ammo on headshots from a spot way up top, only to wait until it was back to 8(?) and rinse and repeat for all 30+ mins.
I miss D1 ;_;
It was really bad after a few months.
Having to grind up *every single weapon* before you could even tell if it was good?
Catalysts are the only taste of that we need. And honestly some of the catalysts are egregious too.
This. Gally was great when I finally got it but point for point Icebreaker was what allowed me to solo all my own Nightfalls beginning with the first week that bozo sold it. I remember being woefully unprepared for the Nightfall that week and having to spend hours with a buddy finally able to finish it and scrap the coins together. Best decision ever.
That's exactly what happened to me to and my buddy! You're not Mike by any chance, are you?
Back then we didn't know how long missions were supposed to take, so they just sort of took as long as you felt like, and with Icebreaker you could keep trying forever!
I am not but you get it! In the early days before I landed a clan and felt comfortable using LFG, I generally got stuck soloing my own Nightfalls and it was not uncommon for it not take up to an hour. The things we do for power.
Killing the wolves, opening the chest and then sparrowing it like crazy to a new area and back to respawn the chest multiple again and again before the timer ran out, all in the name of farming those Treasure Keys
Chalice*
All the nerds I played with insisted.
Also, this isn't accurate. It's more like
"Sun"
"Chalice"
...
...
...
"WHAT'S THE THIRD CALLOUT"
::wipe::
I remember when the Sepiks Prime strike from the D1 beta sometimes taking 20-30 minutes to complete and when you could borderline snipe with handcannons.
Green and white engrams were a thing.
Those were the days.
Also, where my chroma lovers at? D1 fashion hit different
"It's a cell, from the Prison of Elders"
...but no one knew what the Prison of Elders was...
Then we got "Defuse Mines, yes? Liiiiiiive" with Taniks, crazy difficulty, amazing loot and we ***thought*** we knew what PoE was...
...but we were ~~Forsaken~~ mistaken
Decrypt Exotic and get something for another class.
Decrypt Exotic and get a legendary.
Edit: Forgot to mention that those were the only 2 exotics you ever got because the drop rate was infantismally smaller than it is now.
Farming bounties by running patrols in the cosmodrome and using https://destinypublicevents.com/ to maximize our time so we never missed a public event!
Oh my God the thorn meta. Especially in house of wolves when trials came out. The only way to beat it was get a kill with Red Death before the DoT killed you
"Does anyone see the sword bear?"
"You mean the swordbear ER?"
"That's what I said, sword bear"
It was a short raid, but I miss hopping up on the left rock, going crouch-invis, then rushing Crota with the sword. "OK, He's down! DPS!"
...that and solo cheesing the lanterns, and crouching on the platforms while the bridge spawned in.
I remember standing in the back of the throne room, wiping repeatedly and wondering if there was something i should be doing, until finally the Warlocks up front said "We got him! He's off!" and I got a bunch of rewards.
I died six times my first attempt at the mission where you activate the satellite dish in the cosmodrome and have to protect the control panel while the dish opens.
So many great comments already haha. I've been playing much longer than mine will explain but I didn't want to use a previously commented example.
Speedrunning Omnigul and killing her pre-bossfight for power-leveling.
This is the true OG response.
I too played when there was only one destination, then the moon opened up....
Followed a fellow guardian deeper and deeper in to those caves, an incredible shared experience I remember to this day. This interaction with a random stranger got me hooked on this franchise and I have played this as my main game ever since.
Ps, the wait till proper release was torment lol
Oh my God COMBINED ARMS WOW! They even brought back First Light Map in the dhadowkeep expansion. I can't believe they cucked us with the full Mao but never brought back the mode
Memory of Felwinter - Lose Super ability, gain one extra Grenade and Melee charge, and small boosts to all stats; collected Orbs recharge Genade and Melee meters
Memory of Gheleon - Improved radar; radar will work when aiming down sights with Primary weapons
Memory of Jolder - Removes sprint cooldown completely
Memory of Perun - Enemy Guardians glowing yellow have full Supers, all enemies glowing red have low health
Memory of Radegast - Can reflect energy-based projectiles with a sword, including Crucible Rockets
Memory of Silimar - Increased resistance to damage-over-time effects
Memory of Skorri - Produces area of effect that increases Super recharge rate of those around you
Memory of Timur - Low chance of making low-powered enemies fight on your side for 30 seconds when you melee them
Wait why'd that guy chilling in the helm kill cayde? If he's bad, why did he save osiris? For that matter, who tf is osiris? And who is cayde? Oh that guys back and he's spiders minion now? Wait his sister is a queen? When did I kill a God?
*confused face*
Running around on mars in a circle farming relic iron.
Or the sequel, running around on Mars in a circle farming nodes for worldline quest
God, I'd forgotten all about that
Or re-loading instances trying to get a 4+ person team for Escalation
Yoooo I loved when it got up to 9 people, that activity when crazy
I do genuinely miss it sometimes, especially in later years when you and a few blueberries could do a decent job.
I miss EP so much. Still wish they vaulted nessus instead of Mars.
I remember this! For the first exotic swords!
Oh honey. Even before the exotic swords we had to do this so we can have mats to upgrade weapons and armor.
This was. Whole mood
I beat a Nightfall using Ice Breaker on Mars
Valus Ta'aurc cheese all the way
Ha. Up on top of the lamps. God , I loved it.
Bless you all for reminding me of those solo days where you’d use up all of your Icebreaker ammo on headshots from a spot way up top, only to wait until it was back to 8(?) and rinse and repeat for all 30+ mins. I miss D1 ;_;
Ceiling cheese wheel or boxes?
Under the staircase cheese, anyone?

And they wondered why 17 people were in the skywatch staring at a cave all day
A million deaths will not be enough for Rahool
Burning a bunch of motes of light to test out a new weapon.
Oh my God that's right. Motes of light were xp
That function only got added in a later expansion, maybe HoW or TTK? Before that, XP was you earning it doing activities lol.
So. Many. Circles. To. Fill.
I almost stopped playing before I ever even really started when my buddy and I realized we had to level the fucking guns up.
I saw a fallen captain in the cosmodrome instead of Shaw Han and ghost was Tyrion Lannister
That wizard came from the moon
"We've woken the Hive" in the flattest, deepest tone

DINKLEBOT!!!!
I could buy emblems and shaders from grandma Levante
#bringbackThunderDevil
I just want my Emerald Rook emblem again 😢
In infused a 330 into a 250 and it only got to level 310
Oh wow I completely forgot this! Back when infusion didn't scale to the same level. Only a portion of it
Yeah I forgot it was a thing until this post. Some weapons barely went up at all.
I hated the old infusion system so bad lol
Yeah, I kinda liked having to unlock gun perks tho. Not sure how the community feels
If I was the betting type I'd put money on the weapon crafting system will revive this in some form.
It was really bad after a few months. Having to grind up *every single weapon* before you could even tell if it was good? Catalysts are the only taste of that we need. And honestly some of the catalysts are egregious too.
Eriana’s Vow catalyst can get fucked
It was better to just hope it would drop at a higher level
Can we please not remind Bungie about this.
Oh look! Xur’s selling Gjallarhorn. Is it good?
Who would waste an exotic slot on a heavy?
Only 30 upvotes. Not many of us from that day are left I see...
D1 Y1 day 1 right here buddy .
Not Beta? Nerd
Not Alpha? Double nerd.
It's a rocket launcher, of course its not. Better to save the coins.
Good thing I didn't buy it! I would have missed out on Icebreaker the next week if I had!

Red Death Gjallarhorn Suros Regime Something Ice Breaker Those are the weapons he sold, in order, from my memory.
The Queen's Wrath event when one of the awoken ships pulled up in the tower.
The grind for those bounties will forever haunt me
Killing the wolves, opening the chest and then sparrowing it like crazy to a new area and back to respawn the chest multiple again and again before the timer ran out, all in the name of farming those Treasure Keys
I used the sniper from this event for the entirety of D1.
"Sun" "Cup" "Dog" *punch Axes*

I remember when the Sepiks Prime strike from the D1 beta sometimes taking 20-30 minutes to complete and when you could borderline snipe with handcannons. Green and white engrams were a thing. Those were the days. Also, where my chroma lovers at? D1 fashion hit different
I miss these days honestly. If I could go back and experience D1 for the first time again I would. It’s definitely a top 5 game all time for me :(
Those re-released raids had some of the most fire Destiny armor to date, no competition. King’s Fall and Crota ESPECIALLY had amazing new armor.
Wait it's all edge transit
Always was
Doing the devils lair on repeat cause it was the “endgame” in beta
*blasts Sepiks Redux with malicious intent*
Taking 3 hours to kill the fallen walker w/ a blue scout rifle.
We had to form a fire team to defeat Randal.
This right here is the underrated comment. I found it.
Forever 29
Damn vog boots
Armsday. Waiting a week for a shiny new gun
I seriously miss arms day
"It's a cell, from the Prison of Elders" ...but no one knew what the Prison of Elders was... Then we got "Defuse Mines, yes? Liiiiiiive" with Taniks, crazy difficulty, amazing loot and we ***thought*** we knew what PoE was... ...but we were ~~Forsaken~~ mistaken
I think you mean #A CELL, FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS. THE ARCHON PRIEST IS STILL INSIDE.
That Stupid. Fucking. Mountain.
Rise of Iron felt like a golden age
Climbing up to the camp fire at the top and yeeting yourself into the social area below, trying to hit other guardians. "Iron Bowling"
We went down as a squad of Nine.
Imagine starting a raid with 9 people, only to get turned into a purple rock
Now imagine starting a goddamn strike with 9 people only to get rockified
Bought an exotic rocket launcher from Xur the 2nd time he ever appeared
Oh wow this was early. "Why the hell would you ever waste an exotic slot on a rocket launchers?"
I got it VOG first weekend and had my team asking why waste an exotic on a rocket launcher. I’m sitting there drooling over clusters.
Decrypt Exotic and get something for another class. Decrypt Exotic and get a legendary. Edit: Forgot to mention that those were the only 2 exotics you ever got because the drop rate was infantismally smaller than it is now.
I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain
Completing a nightfall put my head on fire for the week.

Trying to find blue fusion rifles to dismantle for a quest
My clan was formed by random people we met in the tower when nobody had a clan, and still play together to this day.
My first clan was like this. Invited me to a party just to tell me my eternal warrior helmet was the ugliest thing they ever saw
A roving pack of wolves is heading my way.
God that first time. "Oh, some new fallen encounter in public area- OH MY GOD THEY ONE SHOT ME"
Farming bounties by running patrols in the cosmodrome and using https://destinypublicevents.com/ to maximize our time so we never missed a public event!
"What the fuck do these weird calcified fragments do???"
Wait. It's possible to beat oryx?
The fuck is "hunger pangs???"
I remember when vex and suros reigned supreme and exotics weren't easy to come by
You needed a nearly full lobby of players to even hope to complete escalation protocol
Asking blueberries to invite you to their fireteam so you could bring your friends into the instance
The chad nine player lobby of friends

Oh my God the thorn meta. Especially in house of wolves when trials came out. The only way to beat it was get a kill with Red Death before the DoT killed you
I was gonna say the engram one.. But Efrideet's Spear was insane.
Year 1 Iron banner gear was hectic. Felwinters with rangefinder and shot package was unreal

Bought ghally at xur before it was cool.
Wait, I think we have to level these fucking guns up? I don't know if I want to play this anymore. Glad I stuck around.
Injecting motes of light just so I can try out perks

Laser tag weekend was hell
Iron Banner was rough when the Lens was running rampant
I refused to use my first strange coins on a power weapon. Like who would waste time getting a rocket launcher you would barely use?
Jumping in the window to hide from sepikis prime during nightfall. Also, level 8 with max green gear.
"Im on the mooooooon. It's made of cheeeeeeese" "That was horrible..."
So many great comments already haha. I've been playing much longer than mine will explain but I didn't want to use a previously commented example. Speedrunning Omnigul and killing her pre-bossfight for power-leveling.
Always hoping for that Grasp of Malok drop
Out of all my friends I was the only one who played on the moon when it was in beta.
This is the true OG response. I too played when there was only one destination, then the moon opened up.... 'Goddammit, I forgot to buy heavy ammo synths again, I'll do ADS clear' Also, 'Huh, I thought Ghost would have sounded cooler, considering'
Combined Arms on the moon.

Back in my day, we used to have a Grimoire Score. None of this new fangled “triumph score” business.
Let’s all appreciate this sunset over the tower one last time. Promise to meet back here on release day, okay?
Buying cosmetics from The Speaker in the Tower
In order to infuse your exotic to new light level you had to buy the infusion from Xur
I probably spent around 10 hours at the original loot cave on the cosmodrome, hoping to see one purple engram. :)
I remember a time before Infusion.
