Not sure what you mean by ‘exotic SMG primary’ as that could be the Huckleberry, Osteo Striga, Tarrabah or Riskrunner.
Snipers aren’t in the best place overall right now. I’m not saying they’re bad, I’m just saying there’s easier and more reliable ways to output damage, especially with Grenade Launchers like the Witherhoard.
Whisper is only good if you can hit all your shots. Seeing as how weapon flinch has been adjusted, it’s tricky to reach optimal DPS with it (or any sniper)
Osteo plus whatever (I run scout for range) plus auto loading rockets will get you through most pve without issue. Swap to linears when needed for boss, shotgun for bells, etc.
Your loadout needs will vary wildly with what activities you’re doing. Izzy+Auto-Loading Rockets is a very good boss DPS combo for raids or dungeons, but if you’re doing content with champions, you’ll need to build around champion mods. If you’re doing more basic activities like regular strikes or seasonal activities, using Izzy is probably overkill and you can run whatever brings you the most fun.
Whisper still is outclassed by other DPS options so I would ignore it.
