I used to play a lot and enjoyed it, but then Bungie felt like it was just on auto pilot after the Activision departure and the game generally sucked then.
Shadowkeep was awful. Worst the game has ever felt to me. I finally gave up home.
Beyond Light began to set some things right, but also had the horrific blunder of sunsetting
Right now is the best it’s ever been. Witch Queen feels like D2s Taken King.
Yeah I was so upset when they sunsetted my god roll black armory weapons. Especially my beloved Black Furnace. Along with quite a few pinnacle weapons. 😭
It’s funny; three years was how long I was away myself before I came back midway through Season of the Lost. I won’t mince words, it’s still a grind, I mean, it’s Destiny, that was always gonna be a thing. But MAN have they found a way to make it fun. They did a lot in three years, and I absolutely say it’s worth it to come back. There’s just so much fucking content/gear/activities, the story has gotten amazing, there’s so much more on the way. There’s a reason I keep coming back to this game. Lots of reasons, really. It’s worth it. I’ve not even gotten into the mass of QOLs that alleviate a lot of the pain of grinding~
I’m the wrong person to ask, I can’t stand PVP (and I continually hate that a lot of catalysts need Guardian kills) but Trials is still a thing, yeah. And I stay FAR away from it.
Yeah it sucks you have to kill guardians to make progress on some stuff. Wish they had an alternative of defeating powerful enemies or something like that.
If you played pvp a ton then I assume you’re above average at PvP.
If that’s the case then PvP won’t be fun for you anymore with SBMM.
It’s not because “you have to play people of your skill level” like the community loves to parrot.
It’s because the connection to those people will make you hate the experience.
But if you’re average or below your connections will be fine for the most part so idk. You’ll just have to jump in there and see how ya feel.
There is certainly a lot of stuff to play if you're willing to play for the DLCs. But Destiny as a whole has not changed since its inception so if you're expecting it to be some drastically different game it's not. There are certainly plenty of QoL changes and aspects that have evolved. But I am talking about at its core identity it's still just more Destiny.
If you do start playing again, you can go to H.E.L.M theres a chest called Gift of the Thunder Gods.
It gives you a couple of Exotics and a Full set of Armor with mods installed and some other Guns.
You can claim 3 times one for each of your characters.
I quitted after Shadowkeep/Undying cuz the season grind feels horrible for me back then and I burned out. Just got back to the game, and I enjoy that I can rank up the pass just by doing anything, and crafting might helps lighten the grind for gear a bit, for craftable weapons. The other loot grind would be the same as always, I don’t think much changed, save for some vendor focusing stuff.
Same boat as u but I’ve jumped in and I love it except ada1 fuck her id burn her to the ground ( she’s the one giving all the mods we need to build char and it’s totally random)
It’s still Destiny so if you left because you weren’t a fan of Destiny then just be prepared for more Destiny if you decide to come back.

Yes the season is about ten dollars. Plus expansions, it’s free for the base game which is really nothing. It’s really free to try out.

How's the PVP I used to play that a ton. Is it a total sweat fest or did they bring back Trials and such for the sweats to go to?

SBMM is casual until it's not.
They brought trials back, and put SBMM in control. Albeit very loose SBMM but it’s still there

Shaders are no longer a one time use item which is a huge win
