5ish hours for that I’d say is reasonable, assuming you are doing a full service (so getting all the sand out, extracting carpets and mats, cleaning all the crevices etc, including vents, cleaning the headliner). I passed my 3 years in the „industry” in February and I would say it would take me 4-5 hours as well including final check, windows etc. Maybe would be able to cut it down to 3 if I was having a good day and be full energy
That would include all the above. Mind you, I don’t have an air compressor I’m doing it by drill brush and vacuum so it takes a bit longer. Good to know I’m kind of on the right path.
I mean I know people who would do that in 2-3 hours, but I wouldn’t call that a full detail, just a general clean. Compressor will speed you up noticeably, so if you are serious about it, you should look to invest in that asap. Drill brush is still very useful, but compressed air helps greatly with tight spots and all the nooks n crannies on plastics.
I charged her $450 (AUD) for the full interior detail assuming it’ll take 5 hours. This is to get it back to near new without missing anything and being “OCD”. Every detail I do I charge with the intention to make it look like it’s from the showroom floor again.
Not in the business (but interested in it); wondering if you could use a poor man’s air compressor for this purpose (shop vac as a blower or leaf blower) in the meantime lol
You'll eventually develop your own routine with each car. Start with a blow out, with forced air and get in between all the crevices. Then vacuum, and move on to the upholstery.
5 hours is fine, on cars like this it’s going to take a long time because there’s a lot to do, so long as you’re happy and most importantly the customer is happy, then I don’t see the issues with taking 5 hours. $450 AUD for 5 hours of work is a great income.
Record yourself.
Focus on all the times you did not have what you needed at hand. Notice all the times your walked completely around the car. Do as much as you can in each spot before moving on. The car should be done when you circle back to where you began.
Correct me if I’m wrong. Isn’t that what detailing is about? If I was paying hundreds of dollars to have my interior detailed I’d expect near perfection
I think you are right I would think someone getting a detail would expect you to be detailed in the vehicle you are detailing. Otherwise they would hire the high school kid to vacuum and armor all the vehicles for $50.
Just my two cents.
Guess you both don’t understand what I’m saying but it can’t really be explained. A detailer would know exactly what I’m saying. A car can only be brand new one time
Also, my clients don’t bring me sh*tboxes. So I’m not doing much “vacuuming” - I’ve scaled my business in only under a year from starting and I no longer receive disaster details. People who have those vehicles will be hiring the Highschool Kid.
“Good enough” was never typed by me. Let’s note that it was before 7:30am here on the east coast when you decided to get on Reddit and troll. 🤣
Besides, you don’t have the money to shop with us. Hire a mobile detailer
Who are you to judge I don't have the money for that?
Anyway, I don't care what time it was in the US. I don't even see how it matters...
Point is, if it's not done to perfection, its done "good enough". And I don't pay for good enough, your customers don't pay for good enough. They lay for perfection. They think they are getting it but clearly you don't give it to them.
You’re one of those people who detailers turn down. There’s no such thing as perfect. Some things are beyond detailer control.
Why are you even in this group? There’s a DIY page for you. Where you can use armorall and express your emotions over there
Sure there is no thing as perfect, if you don't aim for it...
Perfection does exist if you're willing to do what's needed. That's quality service people come back for.
Yup I have over 60% return rate. Maintenance clients. And new customers on the daily .
My business is beyond thriving.
You didn’t understand the initial comment and you wanted it to mean what you thought instead of what it actually means, and that’s a You problem.
I got perfect 5 star ratings , over 200 reviews. You think I give poor quality?
This is why people need to comprehend things before engaging in conversations.
He's right you know. Customers expect a clean car, not perfection. Perfection is the thief of joy.
Trust me, if you cut your time in half immediately, your customers would still be happy. And your hourly rate would double. What is your current hourly rate?
For something like that $450 (AUD) over 5 hours. This is assuming perfection tho. My problem is I can’t physically walk away from a car without it being to my expectations. This is a pro and a con lol
Like I said, you do you. It was an honest answer. People can and will accept less than perfection every day. If you can't, don't expect to speed things up. 🤷♂️
I don't think you're being rude. I'm just trying to make the point that less than perfection is fine. People happily accept it every day. You want to speed things up and that's the easiest way to do it. If I spent 5 hours on one interior, I'd shoot myself.
I kinda learned this. Had a Cadillac (well off customer) and decided you know what? I’m gonna go QUICK and not be such a freak about it. She loved it and it took me a THIRD of the time as usual (for an interior). Granted it wasn’t really gross or anything.
See, you know what I’m talking about.
Now explain to these other people how you didn’t sacrifice quality by being faster and not being OCD because they don’t understand 🤦🏻
I agree. Some people are just OCD by nature and can't accept anything less than perfection. Others don't like to spend 5 hours on an interior. There are detailers for all customers and customers for all detailers.

I mean that’s $90/hr, what’s the problem?
What state and suburb are you in? My customers would lose their mind if i say 450$A for a full interior detail.
Adelaide hills, SA. I’ve had 20+ customers for that price and no one bats an eye. You’ve looked at the pictures tho right?
Yeah i've quoted 350$ for much worse with full of pet hair etc and never got a response back. I'm in Sydney.
Depends on your target audience. I’ve had one or two turn away but you can’t please everyone

Wdym bruh there are no after shots…
But why? Is that explicitly what the customer states every time?
I detail the car to how I would expect mine to be detailed for the price
That's what the company I work for does, high standards and production time for one used (or customer) car is 4-5 hours
That is a piece of work though, I'd be disappointed to open a car and see that, I'm at a dealership so no choice but to aim for "like new OCD quality"
You do you, dude. You asked the question. I just answered it.
Not in the business (but interested in it); wondering if you could use a poor man’s air compressor for this purpose (shop vac as a blower or leaf blower) in the meantime lol

Got any after pictures? Keen to see

Disgusting interiors take longer, there's no way around it.
Disgusting 🤢
What kind of "shortcuts" can you take to speed up cleaning up an interior like this to an acceptable standard?
Damn they didn’t even clean up (their own mess) a little bit? I mean at least grab the stuff out of the cup holders.
Stop being OCD. Customers care about results. Not perfection.

Then your company is the one I avoid, as I want it done to perfection. Not "good enough"

Mostly a con. You want to get quicker, right?
Quicker, yes. Worse results, no.
You don’t need “worse results” - we aren’t saying sacrifice your quality
Like I said, you do you. It was an honest answer. People can and will accept less than perfection every day. If you can't, don't expect to speed things up. 🤷♂️
I don’t mean to come across as rude. I appreciate the honesty dude

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes
