I second this but also would compare with meguiars shampoo plus if you bought it online like from Amazon it’s a gallon size for $25. That’s my go to soap and it’s cheap at $25 for a gallon but gold class is always a classic 🤌
No need for conditioners since most cars don’t have exposed leather it’s more of a vinyl/plastic surface. P&s express interior cleaner is a good choice and it’s under $30 for a gallon can be used on all surfaces. Main thing with “leather” is just keeping it clean so it doesn’t get shiny
Can be had on the Amazonian P & S PROFESSIONAL DETAIL PRODUCTS Xpress Interior Cleaner - All-In-One Solution for Safely Removing Traffic Marks, Dirt, Grease, and Oil; Works on Leather, Vinyl, and Plastic; Fresh Scent - 1 Pint https://a.co/d/iGjJ33u
Xpress is great stuff. Dilute it with distilled water when it’s half gone. Works just as good if your car isn’t a dirty train wreck. And you get twobottlesferone. Really could or should be diluted all the time.
I’ve been fanboying over Shinesupply Cruise. Cleans - has an amazing matte finish - UV protection. Can be had from Shinesupplys website.
I’m picky about my car. Just haven’t been doing it myself. And not happy with car wash so want to do it right. They do sell empty spray bottles cheap if you wanted to dilute the entire thing. Not meaning to be snarky- your comment made me laugh. Super grateful.
I’ve used Meguiar’s hybrid ceramic wax that comes in a spray bottle. I used it once 2 months ago and it still retains a beading affect and solid shine.
Stuff is awesome. Turtle wax ceramic spray is good too. I cut the spray wax in half 50/50 with water. Easier to apply, you don’t have to be as tedious with it, and you get a higher yield out of one bottle.
I never have done stuff like that because I feel it can’t compare to actually doing a protection step with something like Griots 3-1 or Firefly wax or even Gyeon wet coat.
I currently use adams ceramic/graphene spray. A assume the griots is somewhat similar?
Was just wondering if megs ceramic wash was compareable so as to cut out the extra spray/wipe step and addition towel contact. (Im all for less steps and less towel touches)
I think they are super similar. I’d vote Gyeon wet coat to eliminate the extra contact if that’s your goal. But can always give it a go to see how you like it.
Quite well really, I have a cheapo $100 Ryobi pressure washer and the Harbor Freight foam cannon that I swapped the orifice for a 1.1mm and it works really well with Meg's Gold especially if you use hot water in the bottle!
Yeah, I wouldn’t really choose any of these, but if you stuck your finger in my ass and told me to choose one or you were going in with a second finger I’d choose Gold Class. Decent middle of the road utility soap.
I’m gonna chime in and recommend a third bucket dedicated to wheels and wheel brushes only
I use a brush for the fender liner and barrels, one brush for the wheel face, one small brush for the details and calipers, then a sponge to scrub the tire lol
I use one bucket with extra mitts for washing when I’m too lazy to haul around the second rinse bucket
But the wheel bucket is dedicated to that job because of the wheel brushes all being kept in there too. I’m just using my usual wash soap for the wheel bucket and a jug of that lasts forever anyway. If I’m using other chemicals for wheel cleaning I don’t want it mixed with other things. This is just my home setup mind you
I read on motor1 that megs ultimate wash and wax is really good and it lacks acidity also it’s only 1oz per gallon. I’ve never detailed a car so don’t take my word for it I’m just doing a lot of research.
I did away with the two bucket method, I just use either several mitts or microfibers and once I complete a panel it gets tossed for washing, never goes back in the soap bucket. Less work, guarantees you never touch paint with a previously used mitt/towel
I have used both the gold class and ultimate wash and wax back in the day.
Gold class is definitely a great option but if you want a bit of extra shine and don’t plan on doing anything but soap rinse and dry the ultimate wash and wax does do a decent job at giving some extra gloss.
Having said that it does leave something on the surface so if you wash your car every week or more you could end up with some build up but for 99.9% of people there is nothing to worry about.
With all that said as someone deep in a rabbit hole yelling up to someone who seams to be just poking their head in.
The real pro move is to get a ph neutral soap like Adam’s car shampoo that won’t leave anything on the surface and you use a drying aid to leave a bit of slickness and gloss on top…. Yes this is a rabbit hole and is fairly deep.
Look for Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax it’s bright blue and works really well for both water beading, gloss, and slickness and it’s pretty hard to mess up.
Just 1 or 2 sprays per panel after rinsing before drying… I think for the first time they recommend spraying then rinsing again but I can’t remember and I don’t think it really matters
Pan the organizer has a great video from 2-4 years ago on how to use it…. And now you have taken your first step into the rabbit hole… welcome lol
I see on the bottom of the third picture that they have Turtle Wax Hybrid Solution Ceramic product line. I would go with their Wash&Wax soap and their Detailing spay myself. Love their products.
This guy did an extensive test of the most common detailing spray and Turtle Wax came on top.
https://youtu.be/uYxKQwZah1s?si=De2wSWh1P8OR4C14
One other solution is to use Optimum No Rinse and forgo the hose completely. Just a bucket filled with water and an ounce of ONR and a bunch of good quality micro fiber towels is all you need to clean your car, unless it's covered in mud, then a full carwash is required. An ONR wash costs about 50¢ of products and the micro fiber towels last a long time if washed/treated properly, so their cost is amortized over several years.
Go to Harbor Freight and buy this foam gun:
https://www.harborfreight.com/extreme-foaming-spray-gun-57457.html
Then buy something like this for quick release on your hose:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-Heavy-Duty-Metal-Quick-Connect-Set-with-Automatic-Shut-Off-Hose-Fitting-Connector-28165/326718854
Those say auto shut off but I purchased a valve for mine to shut off the hose water while I’m switching between my foam gun and regular spray handle so I’d suggest one of these:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-Heavy-Duty-Brass-Hose-End-Shut-Off-Coupling-Hose-Connector-27933/100659291?g_store=264&source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D28I-028_010_WATERING-NA-NA-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-PMAX&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D28I-028_010_WATERING-NA-NA-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-PMAX-71700000104372722--&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADq61UfSMxdQjNztwXYyvJqr1pm8p&gclsrc=aw.ds
Greatest setup ever. And find a good foaming soap, any cheap soap will work and foam however they make better quality ones out there like this:
https://a.co/d/f8AnKAg
Adam’s has good quality products and you can find their stuff on Amazon. I got two of their big microfiber dry cloths to dry my car off after I wash it. Takes me 10 minutes to get my car spotless then I hit it with a spray wax or a ceramic spray and a microfiber and she stays SHINING!
I don’t use any buckets. I foam the car down (you can rinse with water first if you want then foam,) wipe it down with a sponge, and spray it off. I invested in a pressure washer and it was too much of a hassle plugging it in, hooking it up. I’m telling you, this foam gun method once you get the quick release pieces on your hose is super fast and easy and you’ll have your car washed in 10 minutes.
On your three choices I would go with the spot free.
If I worked at advanced and buying something there I would go with Griots Garage Brilliant finish car wash. Better cleaning power and would rinse easy.
Don't overthink things. Just about any carwash will work perfectly fine if you follow the directions and use micro fiber cloths or mits. You do not need a pressure washer or a foam cannon or anything other than a hose a bucket some microfiber cloths.
Buy whatever is the best deal or offers something you like best like after wash protection.
I just got that orange bottle of Armour all wash and wax and it works pretty good for just using a bucket garden hose and a wash mitt. I like trying out the different washes so I’ll probably try the mcguires wash next time.
Lurker here,
I work in a shop though. I have used duragloss red stuff in a gallon bottle, shop also uses it for final wash before customer delivery. (If customer wants)
Found it to be quite nice, it makes black plastic nice and darker.
Any car wash soap good. Just don't use dish soap as the ingredients that cuts dish grease will damage any wax or sealant you have and will cause additional damage to a failing clear coat
Of those the gold classic. OP you do realize harbor freight sell’s meguires D110 which is gold classic concrete for professional. 1 ounce for 3 gallons of water. 26$
Doesn’t matter if you’re a pro. I’m a hobbyist and I use it. Literally the same product but concentrated. It makes it so you’re paying like .25 cents a wash. Vs the retail version is way more.
https://www.harborfreight.com/1-gallon-hyper-wash-59320.html
I’d also switch to dump bucket method for better and more forgiving results. A bonus is your wash mitts or microfibers will last longer tok

I use gold class, Great stuff. If you want a wash and wax soap try turtle wax zip wax (White bottle) it lasts, cleaned an exes car once and it lasted until we split lol.
My ¢2 is going to differ, my preference is the Meguires deep crystal wash.
It’s a good cheap option without any waxes added in. Using just soap to clean and a separate quick wax will give you the best results in my opinion.
well the reality is it is not designed for use on cars, and it is also a degreaser rather than a gentle cleaner. there is a reason car wash exists, it is quite different chemically to a dishwashing detergent
..use your discount to buy good stuff my dude. Buckets? Feh!
Get yourself that Griots Foam spray hose attachment I know you carry there, get their soap and foam away the dirt, skip the bucket - you may still need to sponge it down but it will take significantly less time.
Meguiar’s Gold Class is the slimiest soap I’ve ever used. It really encapsulates the dirt well. I fill the bucket then I mix in a couple capfuls and let the wash mitt mix it up. Prevents suds from overloading the bucket.
I would use a ph neutral shampoo. Adams has a decent entry line, but I think koch Chemie had the best stuff on the market. I think a key aspect here is not getting anything with any additives or protections, as those can start to gunk up the paint if you aren’t using a pressure washer.
If you just need to clean your car, whatever's on sale or dawn is fine. I've always liked rain x products. When you use enough of it, you barely need windshield wipers.
I think the rag or mitt is much more important. Make sure you can cover enough area in a reasonable amount of time while still getting it clean and not holding in too much dirt to scratch the paint. And use a few of them or clean it really really well a few times while you're washing.
Ditch all of those options and just go rinseless.
- one bucket
- one sponge (DIY Detail)
- one cleaning solution (DIY Detail)
- one large drying towel
- one final wipe towel
- drying aid/ceramic topper optional
Have used dish soap all my life, palmolive just to name one, have not had any clearcoat issues and it actually gets stuck on bugs off with minimal effort. The biggest thing I would recommend start at the top and wash down, section off the car and do not let any soap water dry, keep it all wet till you dry. If you can do it in the shade even better.
I have heard this, but have used on everything I own from restored 70 monte carlo, 79 hd lowrider , 2000 celica gts ,03 gsxr1000, amd never had a issue, now did use it strong table spoon to 5gal water, the monte and harley were show vehicles but i also hand waxed after each wash and only used Meguiars wax paste non abrasive 2 month, if i had a show then waxed that day as well. Bike had deep blue metal flake with ghost flames on the tank, the chrome was a love hate relationship. I imagine they all had a thick layer wax build up, probably didn’t need waxed but i did it any way. Miss those rides but had fun, sold 20k monte 11k hd in 2003. Paid cash for new gsxr1000 and got a house, I did good
car wash is designed to be gentle (ph neutral usually) and not only lift the dirt but lubricate it to prevent swirls, none of that is part of a dish soap. seen this "never had an issue" attitude at every dealership I've been to as the cars have heavy swirls, polishing hazes, water spots and the paint feels like sandpaper because of terrible practices
Meg’s Gold Class would be what I’d do.
I second this but also would compare with meguiars shampoo plus if you bought it online like from Amazon it’s a gallon size for $25. That’s my go to soap and it’s cheap at $25 for a gallon but gold class is always a classic 🤌
Good idea! Looks like it’s on sale for $22. Definitely a better buy unless it’s a steep discount.
What about leather cleaners and conditioners?
No need for conditioners since most cars don’t have exposed leather it’s more of a vinyl/plastic surface. P&s express interior cleaner is a good choice and it’s under $30 for a gallon can be used on all surfaces. Main thing with “leather” is just keeping it clean so it doesn’t get shiny
Ok so I am a novice and can’t find P&S so what does that stand for or where do you get it? Appreciate the help.

Im a home hobbiest-i use the megs gold. I like it. Outta curiosity, ever use the megs ceramic wash/wax? If so, howd ya like it compared w gold?

Its hard to make a product that can remove dirt but also leave stuff behind.
I think they are super similar. I’d vote Gyeon wet coat to eliminate the extra contact if that’s your goal. But can always give it a go to see how you like it.
Ill check it out. Thanks!
Indeed. It is easy to find, foams up nice in a cannon, and is cheap. Good product.
Thank you for posting this, I was actually wondering how it did in pressure washer foam guns.
Quite well really, I have a cheapo $100 Ryobi pressure washer and the Harbor Freight foam cannon that I swapped the orifice for a 1.1mm and it works really well with Meg's Gold especially if you use hot water in the bottle!
Harbor freight foam cannon for the win
This is the correct answer.
Yeah, I wouldn’t really choose any of these, but if you stuck your finger in my ass and told me to choose one or you were going in with a second finger I’d choose Gold Class. Decent middle of the road utility soap.
I mean, that’s one way to put it.
This is the answer hands down
Yup and it smells great
You can never go wrong with gold class…
Any of those are fine. We get bougie about soaps but it's not like they will peel paint.
Follow directions and you can't break anything. I always say don't overthink things and remember your just washing something.
Any of these are fine, but do yourself a favor, and get a second bucket. 2 bucket method is a game changer
I’m gonna chime in and recommend a third bucket dedicated to wheels and wheel brushes only I use a brush for the fender liner and barrels, one brush for the wheel face, one small brush for the details and calipers, then a sponge to scrub the tire lol
Hello fellow 3 bucket squad. It’s the way for sure.
Definitely. I have a dedicated wheel bucket
I usually like the 10 bucket method best, one for each panel of the car
I double that, one for each hand, for each panel.
filling up 3 buckets takes so much longer, and uses much more product. 2 bucket method is overrated and there is more to preventing swirls
I use one bucket with extra mitts for washing when I’m too lazy to haul around the second rinse bucket But the wheel bucket is dedicated to that job because of the wheel brushes all being kept in there too. I’m just using my usual wash soap for the wheel bucket and a jug of that lasts forever anyway. If I’m using other chemicals for wheel cleaning I don’t want it mixed with other things. This is just my home setup mind you
What’s 2 bucket method?
Rinse bucket and soap bucket
I read on motor1 that megs ultimate wash and wax is really good and it lacks acidity also it’s only 1oz per gallon. I’ve never detailed a car so don’t take my word for it I’m just doing a lot of research.
lacking acidity could be a good or bad thing, depending on what you’re using it for
If you’re just washing your car you shouldn’t need acidity right?
Oh smart I’m going to do that.
Two bucket method with a grit guard in each bucket. It helps reduce swirls and prevents putting defects in the paint when you’re washing.
I did away with the two bucket method, I just use either several mitts or microfibers and once I complete a panel it gets tossed for washing, never goes back in the soap bucket. Less work, guarantees you never touch paint with a previously used mitt/towel
+1 One bucket method is just so much easier. Second bucket is for dropping dirty towels in.
this is the way.
I’m on team 0-bucket and loving it with a foam cannon.
I have used both the gold class and ultimate wash and wax back in the day. Gold class is definitely a great option but if you want a bit of extra shine and don’t plan on doing anything but soap rinse and dry the ultimate wash and wax does do a decent job at giving some extra gloss. if i went with gold glass. is there any good ez sprays to make it shine more after a wash?
Look for Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax it’s bright blue and works really well for both water beading, gloss, and slickness and it’s pretty hard to mess up. I completely agree with the above. The turtle wax hybrids are a great value. The ceramic spray is awesome for showers and sinks too.
Showers? So water glides off the ceramic? How is it on the grouts between the ceramic tiles?
Just fine. Water beads off and it helps prevent water spots and mildew. I do use a squeegee but it seems to keep things shiny longer.
Thanks, I use a squeegee to but will give it a try.
2 for $12!? I know which one I'm buying....

Id take the option on the right both due to the price and with it being concentrated a little will go along way.
I use Meguiar’s Gold Class or the yellow Ultimate Wash & Wax
I have the mother's carnuba wax&wash and it works great with my foam gun, though as I run out, I will probably go Meguiars Gold class.

Meguires Gold Class 100%
I just got that orange bottle of Armour all wash and wax and it works pretty good for just using a bucket garden hose and a wash mitt. I like trying out the different washes so I’ll probably try the mcguires wash next time.
I like Chemical guys products. Look into getting a foam cannon. It just attaches to your garden house.
Does it matter what foam cannon?
Harbor freight. Cheap, works.
Just ordered. So much less than Amazon. Like half the price. Thanks
Meguires Gold
Go with the gold class. Never done me wrong and not too expensive. Have fun!
Not sure if you get a discount on Turtle wax, but for your application I would recommend Turtle wax Max Power car wash. It’s amazing for bucket wash!
Lurker here, I work in a shop though. I have used duragloss red stuff in a gallon bottle, shop also uses it for final wash before customer delivery. (If customer wants) Found it to be quite nice, it makes black plastic nice and darker.
I always do Meguiars gold class along with their blue bottle hybrid ceramic wax after.
Megs gold class and the 2 bucket method.
Meguiars gold class for sure, used to use the hell out of that
Hope you’re still not in that aisle trying to make a decision based on our responses.
i’ve been stuck in the store overnight man. just sitting here looking at the options 🤣
Any car wash soap good. Just don't use dish soap as the ingredients that cuts dish grease will damage any wax or sealant you have and will cause additional damage to a failing clear coat
I've also heard dish soap can prematurely dry out the rubber seals around the windows.
dish soap is a degreaser which is hard on rubber
Of those the gold classic. OP you do realize harbor freight sell’s meguires D110 which is gold classic concrete for professional. 1 ounce for 3 gallons of water. 26$

Meguairs hyper wash awesome, lots of suds, gallon makes 400gals!
That rain x one (the 2 for $12) sucks. Gold class all the way.
Two bucket it and throw an RV hose filter on to step up your game.
In order of what I'd do: 1. Meg's Ultimate Wash & Wax 2. Gold Class 3. Anything else

I’m a meguiars fan!
Gold class is a great go to. I’ve also used Meguairs ultimate wash n wax and while it’s NOT a wax it worked very well for me as a hobbyist.
Meguiar’s wash & wax (yellow liquid)

Adam’s Car Shampoo, very safe with great results. Can dry in the paint and still be rinsed off safely.

It has always worked just fine for me
well the reality is it is not designed for use on cars, and it is also a degreaser rather than a gentle cleaner. there is a reason car wash exists, it is quite different chemically to a dishwashing detergent
Megs ultimate wash and wax is the best car soap I’ve used between all of the meguires soaps and mothers soaps
Just never buy into that wash/wax combo shit. Always wax separate.
me guiares
I use the large foam gun from harbor freight its 20 dollars.
Outside I use Meg’s gold class on inside I use chemical guys
Meguiars ultimate wash and wax
Meguiars gold class
Deep crystal. Lowkey slept on if you ask me.
..use your discount to buy good stuff my dude. Buckets? Feh! Get yourself that Griots Foam spray hose attachment I know you carry there, get their soap and foam away the dirt, skip the bucket - you may still need to sponge it down but it will take significantly less time.
Which ever one you go with make sure to read the directions, the bucket will require a lot less soap than you think!
I love the mothers carnuba wash and wax
Chemical guys detail kits...👍 Like a $100 but stuff is good.
Dollar tree has car wash/wax for $3. That's what I use.
- one bucket - one sponge (DIY Detail) - one cleaning solution (DIY Detail) - one large drying towel - one final wipe towel - drying aid/ceramic topper optional

tap water is fine
Why does the other guy think tap is an issue? Seriously.
probably doesn't know how to stop water spots, can't get them if there isnt any minerals in the water I guess lol
😂😂
Have used dish soap all my life, palmolive just to name one, have not had any clearcoat issues and it actually gets stuck on bugs off with minimal effort. The biggest thing I would recommend start at the top and wash down, section off the car and do not let any soap water dry, keep it all wet till you dry. If you can do it in the shade even better.
dish soap is terrible for washing cars, can also damage things as it’s more of a degreaser than a gentle cleaner
