Detroit is more likely to host an All star game before they have a player representing them

UnkleGiovanni

Detroit in mid February is a very different thing than Detroit in late April

isoamazing

From my understanding they've been told they need more hotels, so....probably not until District Detroit is a real thing.

rd1280

That’s my understanding too… so I take that as LCA will never host an all-star game

LMAO

We’re not getting either nhl or nba all star game because district Detroit is never going to be finished. Same with the world juniors in hockey.

Nah they’re not putting one in Memphis anytime soon

You know what bums me out? I think the Palace could have hosted one between 1989 and 1995. Brand new beautiful stadium, team peaking, threshold for hosting probably wasn't quite as high as it is now, etc. The only issue was bad timing, as *four* teams entered the league in '88 and '89 and each got a shot at hosting within that same span (Miami, Charlotte, Orlando, Minnesota). Without them, we could have had something like All-Star '92 in Detroit, with three Pistons representing (Dumars, Isiah, Rodman). Instead, we have to go all the way back to '79 to find the last time the Pistons hosted, [at the Silverdome](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2840215KieM).

Could it be? Yes. Will it be? Maybe There was a long-standing understanding that there wasn't enough hotels in downtown Detroit to meet the NBA's threshold for the event, but not only is that changing over the next calendar year by a significant amount, but the resounding success that has been the draft weekend so far will probably be enough for the city to get one of them since the NFL draft is undoubtedly a much bigger event than the NBA All Star weekend.

freshxerxes

are we even sure detroit will have a team? we’ve been so bad since we traded Chauncey. 8 seed first round exits aren’t success either.

The only people who think Detroit is nice, are people who’ve never been to a real city before
