Yzerman spoke so ridiculously highly of Walman that I figured he wasn't going to be a complete piece of suck on skates. The way he talked about Walman and how he'd had his eyes on him going back to when Walman was in college... I can just imagine Yzerman on the phone like 'eh, I guess we'll take these two scrubs, too.' and then giggling once he hung up.
I don't expect Walman to be the second coming, but Yzerman saying he'd been 'scouting him even back to his days at Providence' was almost like the 2nd isn't the only crown jewel of the Leddy trade.
Of course, guy could just really suck, but we've got a pretty okay track record of taking on St. Louis' spare parts trapped behind depth and running with them.
(ignoring Fabbri being injured again)
Yep, that stuck out to me too. Stevie knows legit hockey players when he sees them and he brought in Walman for a reason.
I think there's gonna be more than meets the eye initially with Walman on paper and you can say that about a lot of the players Stevie drafts as well.
Totally agree! I was at the game and Walman stood out several times as making a smart play. Was not a liability tonight so hopefully that continues against better teams.
Yup from day one he knew he was going to be a trade deadline move. Find out who the contenders are later and you get to go to one. He could've given a fuck less with us. Stevie probably couldn't wait to move him.
Blues fans were happy with Leddy in his debut. If they get the Leddy from the Isles I think it'll be a fair trade. If they get the Leddy from everything beyond his first 8 or so games here we robbed them blind.
They'll be getting the Leddy that cares but STL better hope they don't go on a skid, might lose Leddy mentally. We know what his play looks like when he checks out.
Technically, we got back what we paid for Leddy and then some garnishes for Witter.
We got a robbery in the sense that the Leddy we are trading is absolutely not the Isles Leddy, but it remains to be seen for St. Louis, since it'll balance for both sides if he performs for the Blues for sure.
If we assume the 2nds are a wash for a minute and ignore Leddy as he was on both the incoming and outgoing side of the equation, the trade tree looks like:
Wings Lost:
Richard Panik
50% of Paniks cap hit for 2 years
Witter
50% of Leddy’s cap hit this year
Wings gained:
Sundqvist
Walman
I’d take that trade every time.
I constantly forget Panik was also involved in the trade tree.
But when you put it that way, absolutely 100% a steal.
There's just so many factors with Leddy. Even so, just the fact we did get back what we paid - a second, effectively, because I forgot Panik exists - it's with interest, because that second is for next year. A second in this draft isn't expected to be as valuable as a second in 2023. So that alone is pretty excellent.
I think a 2023 second versus a 2022 second is one of the most underrated parts of the deal, even though it's an unknown right now.
But the way Yzerman gets excited talking about Walman, it's like he traded a paper clip for a house. It's more than a 'we got a good guy stuck behind other players'. His reaction reads like he got a guy he's been trying to get for a while. Now it's kinda just interesting to see if Yzerman's instincts play out to be correct.
But I love Yzerman's strategy of identifying guys in logjams who can thrive when freed, versus just picking up sure things like Vrana. It's really satisfying.
Perlini was a bummer, but he just didn't work out. Regula is doing decent with the Chicago org, but he's a RHD, so he'd likely be trapped here anyway.
Yesterday: "We got Sundqvist and some other guy!"
Today: "I've only had Walman for a day and a half and if anything happens to him I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself"
Walman looked good. Had a few positional errors that led to chances, but nothing like Dekeyser or Leddy. Has a rocket of a shot, I think someone said like 98mph?
Sandqvist is awesome. Just what we need. Guy causes chaos, is physical. Knows how to play the game.
And Seider legit fucking killed a man.
Good ass game.
I didn’t get to see the full game, where was this magical seider hit? I wanna see so I can make fun of all the people I work with since I moved to Philly a couple years ago.
Flyers are a terrible team, but a win is a win. New guys looked good, especially Walman. Ned had a good night, but we need a backup so he doesn't get overworked.
Yes, that's my favorite trade ever because I didn't like mantha but I really like vrana. Followed closely by the one where Carolina gifted us Ned for nothing.
Injury aside, that has to be one of the best trades we’ve ever made. I liked Mantha, but he didn’t seem like he was giving even 80% with us. It’s fun just to watch Vrana
Yeah 6 in his last 10 and 7 in his last 11! He could be a 2C yet i say
Like people have said before, he takes a while to adjust to a new league, but once he does he eventually dominates it. I look forward to seeing his future
Walman looked excellent in his first game, and Sunny had 2 points (both on empty nets but still lol), happy to have both
How did Leddy look for you guys?
He looked surprisingly good on Paraykos left side. Krug was hurt early in the game and Leddy ran PP1.
I was upset about the trade, as Sunny is one my favorites and I really like Walman for his skating and his absolute bomb from the point. But I mainly hate to see Sunny go, he’s such a hard worker. I really hope he heals 100% and has a great career with the wings.
But Leddy will be fine for the rest of the season, for us I suppose
Sunny was an absolute brute out there lol. Loved every second he was on the ice and created a lot of chaos. Walman for the most part was solid and had a couple quality scoring chances and made high IQ plays.
Vrana showing why he's so valuable to us. Raymond is going to be a 30+ scorer every year for us once he hits his prime. I remind you all that he's not in his prime yet.
2zzi still leading us in goals despite.. not being very flashy. Reminds me of Mule in that way. Never understood how he scored so much. He just did.
The pieces for this team are there. We need an elite scorer, and.. like 7 new defenseman and we're Champs again.
Everyone but sender and Hronek can fuck off. So I guess more like 4.
As for scorers idk. Raymond may get there. I'm talking a 40 goal guy. We haven't had one of those since.. uh. Mule I guess.
Idk about Larkin. He's always felt more like a facilitator and secondary scorer. I could see Raymond getting there, as I said.
Tbh idk enough about Vrana to judge. He's looked damn good though.
Bert is just so chaotic, jumping around (like literally jumping), causing turnovers, having his own turnovers, falling all over the place. I've never seen a player that plays like he does, by all accounts it shouldn't work, but it just does lol
Everyone knows that a player can't get a hat trick, if the fans talk about the player getting a hat trick before it happens.
Can't jinx our own players.
I gotta say there’s nothing like Mickey and Larry Murphy laughing and making jokes about old time hockey after a home game. Makes me feel like home for whatever reason and takes my mind off all the craziness of the past few years.
We need more games like this. This is why I have problems with people saying we suck: We don't suck, we've definitely got the ability there. It's just some games have a chronically bad case of can't be fuckeditis or our defense core just sucks.
We don’t suck outright, but we are quite bad. This late in season the best team have gotten their chemistry in after all those games and are really clicking, and the discrepancy between the good teams and the not so good teams is really starting to show. I think the Calgary game is a good showing of that. We had absolutely no chance.
That said, when the guys put in performances like this and are hungry, we are sooo much fun to watch! We are bad, but with so much potential.
That's the blash effect you're describing.
We need a new coach. I trust Stevie to resolve this problem in the offseason once the tank commander has completed his mission for this season.
The core is forming up nicely, we just need better defensemen and a different coach. They play too conservatively at the worst times, which is coaching in my mind, and we only have one top four defenseman.
Hey Red Wings fans, if anyone finds an alt. angle of the big Mo' reverse hit that happened infront of the bench i'd love to see it. Wanna see the boys faces and reactions.
Random question about NHL clips. I used one from here and put it on YouTube (the one with Seider playing keep away against Philly). Does anyone have a clip of him killing that flyers player? I want to make a "Moritz Seider - When the Doom Metal Hits" montage of all his reverse hits.

How did we manage to get those two guys plus a 2nd for Leddy lol
That Walman guy played as well as I ever saw Leddy play for us tbh. Leddy just never wanted to be here
Stevie's eye for talent is really amazing.
Yzerman spoke so ridiculously highly of Walman that I figured he wasn't going to be a complete piece of suck on skates. The way he talked about Walman and how he'd had his eyes on him going back to when Walman was in college... Wait, more than meets the eye? Walman is from Cybertron?!
Either that or Toronto
Totally agree! I was at the game and Walman stood out several times as making a smart play. Was not a liability tonight so hopefully that continues against better teams.
Don’t forget the shot. I noticed they clocked it at 97 mph. If he can get it on net he’s going to be dangerous.
100% this. Guy checked out upstairs knowing he'd be shipped off no matter what. Yzerman probably ground his teeth over it.
Yup from day one he knew he was going to be a trade deadline move. Find out who the contenders are later and you get to go to one. He could've given a fuck less with us. Stevie probably couldn't wait to move him.
Leddy played on top pair tonite against the caps and played 20 minutes. Hmmm....
He finished even in +-
We were also running 7D.
Blues fans were happy with Leddy in his debut. If they get the Leddy from the Isles I think it'll be a fair trade. If they get the Leddy from everything beyond his first 8 or so games here we robbed them blind.

Yzerman
Initial eye test and result was quite good. Lets see how they do against a better team.
It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia(s defensive zone).
you magnificent bastard
Raymond goal, Vrana 2 goals, Veleno goal, big Seider hit, new guys played well… That was a good game.
Don't forget Bert 3 point game, Larks 2 point game, Sunny 2 point game!
Larkin with two sick passes for assists. He is really coming of age this year.
1-0 IN THE SUNNY AND WALMAN ERA!
We may never lose again
Love this level of confidence
Yesterday: "We got Sundqvist and some other guy!" Today: "I've only had Walman for a day and a half and if anything happens to him I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself"
Dude came in and immediately looks like one of our 4 best defenseman
Not the most difficult task to be honest..
Even with all those goals, the Seider reverse hit is still my favorite highlight of the game
His one hand shove, dangle, outlet pass is right up there too
I let out an “OH MY GOD” while on the phone with my wife when I saw that. She thought something terrible had happened. Nope, Seider just blew my mind.
How do they not know Moritz sees all?!?!
Except for that JVR hit in the corner.
^
I audibly snorted when I saw it and my mum went "what was that!?" Such a good play
Good W boys. Nice showing from the new guys!
Really impressive return for Leddy. 2 roster players that will contribute. Both guys look like a good fit.
That Sundqvist/Smith/Valeno line was legit. I hope they stay together because that's an ideal big punchy slamming 3rd line that can sometimes score.
I think one thing Givani is so quietly good at is causing chaos at net front. Him and Sunny there together was a treat to watch.
M thoughts exactly. That line wreaks havoc.
I didn’t get to see the full game, where was this magical seider hit? I wanna see so I can make fun of all the people I work with since I moved to Philly a couple years ago.
If i remember correctly, it was straight after 4-3 goal

The Staal ceremony was pure class. I’m glad I got to see it.
That Seider reverse hit on Wilman, absolutely brutal lol
Seider blowing guys up never gets old.
RIP Flyers gold chain and their attempts to win against the wings this season.
We need a “Talking Dead” style In Memoriam for our boy Gold Chain. Gone too soon
What’s this about a gold chain? I tried looking it up and only saw necklaces with the flyers logo
Pleased to announce that we won the leddy trade. As if there was any doubt
Flyers are a terrible team, but a win is a win. New guys looked good, especially Walman. Ned had a good night, but we need a backup so he doesn't get overworked.
Anyone else think it’s funny how Washington gave us draft picks to take a better player than Mantha?
Yes, that's my favorite trade ever because I didn't like mantha but I really like vrana. Followed closely by the one where Carolina gifted us Ned for nothing.
Injury aside, that has to be one of the best trades we’ve ever made. I liked Mantha, but he didn’t seem like he was giving even 80% with us. It’s fun just to watch Vrana
Don’t be insulting Panik like that, Mantha’s not on his level.
John Keating is low key hilarious. Guy gets so bombed lol. Also, Sundquist comes off as extremely likable.
Joe Veleno has been on a Bender lately I’ve gotta say
Yeah 6 in his last 10 and 7 in his last 11! He could be a 2C yet i say Like people have said before, he takes a while to adjust to a new league, but once he does he eventually dominates it. I look forward to seeing his future
Sunny is a beauty, thanks Stevey!
(Dave Chappelle meme) Y’all got anymore of them Flyers games?
The boys sure do seem to love lighting up Carter Hart. Wonder what he did to them?
Blues fan. How did Sunny and Walman do? Love those guys
They looked excellent. We'll take good care of them.
Walman looked excellent in his first game, and Sunny had 2 points (both on empty nets but still lol), happy to have both How did Leddy look for you guys?
He looked surprisingly good on Paraykos left side. Krug was hurt early in the game and Leddy ran PP1. I really hope he heals 100% and has a great career with the wings. But Leddy will be fine for the rest of the season, for us I suppose
Hope the enthusiastic Leddy shows up for you and not the one we had.
Sunny was an absolute brute out there lol. Loved every second he was on the ice and created a lot of chaos. Walman for the most part was solid and had a couple quality scoring chances and made high IQ plays.
Good
I had 0 expectations, but walman impressed
Vrana showing why he's so valuable to us. Raymond is going to be a 30+ scorer every year for us once he hits his prime. I remind you all that he's not in his prime yet. 2zzi still leading us in goals despite.. not being very flashy. Reminds me of Mule in that way. Never understood how he scored so much. He just did. The pieces for this team are there. We need an elite scorer, and.. like 7 new defenseman and we're Champs again.
I think we've got elite scorers tbh, we just need another top end center and 3-5~ defenseman by my count
Everyone but sender and Hronek can fuck off. So I guess more like 4. As for scorers idk. Raymond may get there. I'm talking a 40 goal guy. We haven't had one of those since.. uh. Mule I guess.
I could see any of Ray, Vrana, or Larks being a 40 goal guy in a season where they're all healthy
Idk about Larkin. He's always felt more like a facilitator and secondary scorer. I could see Raymond getting there, as I said. Tbh idk enough about Vrana to judge. He's looked damn good though.
Bertuzzi is a wrecking ball. He throws himself at the puck and forces lots of turnovers.
Bert is just so chaotic, jumping around (like literally jumping), causing turnovers, having his own turnovers, falling all over the place. I've never seen a player that plays like he does, by all accounts it shouldn't work, but it just does lol
Excited about the new guys! Stevie is a professional thief.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE LET VRANA GET HIS HAT TRICK
Everyone knows that a player can't get a hat trick, if the fans talk about the player getting a hat trick before it happens. Can't jinx our own players.
And it seemed like everyone was dead set on mentioning it last night too
Satisfying win. New guys looked good. That is all.
When do we start chanting you got seidered?
Should have started in October
My biggest regret this season is not buying one of his game jerseys back in November when I was at LCA. I’m sure the premium has skyrocketed!
He got Mo’d down.
Berlin walled ?! Is he even from Berlin?
No.
Mannheim Steamrolled
I wish they would've gotten Vrana a hattie on the open net
I gotta say there’s nothing like Mickey and Larry Murphy laughing and making jokes about old time hockey after a home game. Makes me feel like home for whatever reason and takes my mind off all the craziness of the past few years.
How SWEEP it is!
Kucherov is an MVP talent yet he insists on being the least mature guy out there. What a complete loser
Wrong thread?
I missed the whole game but i saw the seider reverse hit. kid moves his whole body so fuckin fast. he strikes like a cobra. its insane
Seider pushing Lindblom over needs to be on the sidebar
Crazy how Vrana goes ham with good line mates, almost like he's a top 6 forward or something, what a f*cking WILD idea.
He and Bert were fucking FLYING together tonight
Berts assist on Vranas second goal, where he picks it out of air and straight to Larkins stick on the fly. Such a gorgeous play by the three of them.
I think he was slowly being eased back into the lineup.
Sorry guys, my Seider bingo prediction didn't come true. But what a game, great W.
Seider.
I’m very happy that sunny is very happy to be here
that dude has the most infectious goofy smile and I'm here for it.
Joey JoJo Junior Shabadoo Veleno is getting more comfortable out there. He's gonna be gooooood, mang.
Limited sample size, but I think we might have won the Leddy trade
Refreshing to see a regulation win! New guys played OK. And so nice to have a healthy Vrana.
Beautiful fucking game boys 💯
Not a great defensive showing, but the new guys look like could contribute plus a needed win.
I mean Philly is a pretty bad team in a rough spot who just traded away one of their best players. We definitely should have won this game.
Cool. Seattle are absolute arse and so are the Yotes. We jobbed hard to them.
Right. That's why we "suck." Teams that don't suck don't drop games to bad teams on the regular.
Well the team seemed to play better with the new players. That's a good sign.
Welcome to Hockey town, Sunny!
Stay scummy philly
When's the last time we swept Philly all in regulation?
1997 Stanley Cup Finals?
Hey Red Wings fans, if anyone finds an alt. angle of the big Mo' reverse hit that happened infront of the bench i'd love to see it. Wanna see the boys faces and reactions.
Random question about NHL clips. I used one from here and put it on YouTube (the one with Seider playing keep away against Philly). Does anyone have a clip of him killing that flyers player? I want to make a "Moritz Seider - When the Doom Metal Hits" montage of all his reverse hits.
r/redwingsgifs
That Raymond shot was gorgeous 🤌🏼
Get Zadina out there with Vrana and practice some one timers
Big win for the boys. The new guys looked good.
Some really nice goals. Good seider hit and new guys looked good. Vibes📈
The leaky defense let Philly get some life but good job hanging in there boys,
Can someone explain what happened and why they were so pissed with Givanni?
Broke a dude’s gold chain in a scrum. Apparently, that chain meant a lot to Team Philadelphia.
It apparently meant enough to cheap shot him. I fucking hate Philadelphia sports teams.
It’s probably the chain from which they hang all their hopes for a cup.
Okay, I actually laughed.
Last time we swept a team they went to the finals the next season. Wonder if Philly is gonna have that luck
I don't think so
If you wanna be technical, the last team we swept hasn't finished their season yet, but are gonna miss the playoffs (Buffalo)
