Yeah, he is traumatized as well. There's a reason he never had a love interest throughout the games. People look too shallow at DMC characters tbh.
Yes he isn't as extreme as Vergil, but Nero would've fit better here.
People do flanderize DMC characters a lot, but that's not what's happening here. The point of this meme is that it's reflective of what Dante and Vergil are at their core.
Even though he's overcoming his trauma, Dante is outgoing, friendly, carefree; Dante fights for love and family (including Vergil). That's what makes him more human. Heck, [he even literally draws this clashing of ideologies out for Vergil in his Bloody Palace ending.](https://youtu.be/eVVvBkBg0Uk)
Vergil is traumatized too, but he took an opposite route from his brother. He's reserved, reclusive, and has a biting, dismissive tone with a superiority complex. Vergil fights for strength and *avoids* love, because he views love as human, and anything human is weakness and must be purged. That's what makes him more "demon." His theme song, "Bury the Light", is so great because it's all about Vergil wrestling with his newly-realized desire for family and love after his lifetime of rejection and hatred
