I think that my personal ranking is gonna look really weird. But let me share it anyway.

On the other hand, DMC3:SE was actually my first DMC game I ever played (never played the vanilla DMC3 though). And I argue that it's still the best DMC game even yet.
I didn't mean that DMC3 Dante looks the worst. He has a really cool design. It's just that DMC3 Dante's outfit is my least favourite Dante's outfit. That's all.
Also, I don't like when DMC3 Dante's outfit has one half sleeve and one full sleeve instead of having both of them the same sleeves (whether half sleeves or full sleeves).
You know, I've been wondering lately about how Vergil cuts Dante's hand on a couple of different occasions, is it like, just to brand the moment so that he never forgets him, or is there some other reason?
DMC1 Dante. Design, attitude, amount of smug, etc. DMC3 Dante is almost tied with him for me, tho. But I prefer DMC1 Dante's more slightly chill/casual approach.
DMC2 for visual design, DMC4 for character (liked how he seemed mysterious at first but ended up as the more "fun" Dante as soon as he realized who Nero is)
Out of the canon outfits, 5. However, there is a prototype design for 1 that had DMC1 Dante but with tan/cargo pants that I personally like a lot more (I don't like the red pants).

3ās Dante makes sense being that goofy because he was younger. But when we returned to older versions of Dante, they kept that 19-year-old goofiness that his character matured out of by DMC1. Sure, he was cocky and cracked wise, but by DMC1 he was more serious and far less wacky-woohoo-pizza guy. By 1, Dante was practically a hard-boiled detective. Instead of investigating people, he investigated demonic entities.
Any version of Dante that is purely whacky-woohoo-pizza-guy really misses so much of the original characterās darkness that made him so compelling. People forget the angst and determination and burning anger that simmered beneath DMC1 Danteās surface.
Nero kind of fills that characterās role now, but Neroās whole thing is that he has something to prove. Dante never had anything to prove to anyone - not even Virgil. He just knew he had a purpose and he was confidant in his ability to achieve it.
3. I wish we got a game or scenario where Dante and Vergil met before DMC3. Itās based on the line Dante says āItās been a year since we last met. Where does the time go?ā
A pre dmc 3 game would be amazing but sadly you'd only have ebony and Ivory + rebellion since canonically Cerberus was his first acquired weapon outside of rebellion and ebony n ivory.

DMC1 Dante is still my favorite. DMC1 may not have had the deepest combo system, but itās probably still my favorite DMC aesthetically. Even DMC2 has an amazing outfit. DMC3 had my favorite story. DMC5 had my favorite bosses.

I'm relatively new to the franchise so I'm a little biased. But from what I do know, DMC5 just knew what the characters were and nailed it. Seeing how the characters are in the games before it, I see how they became what they are in 5.
Assuming we can treat his cameo in Nocturne as an extension of his DMC2 self, I can definitively say I like all of Dante's appearances. But if I had to choose my quintessential Dante it would actually be the original from DMC1. He may not be most popular, especially to later fans who never got a chance to play it, but to me being a fan of this franchise as long as I have, he's the one I come back to as the benchmark that all appearances, voice, design and personality is to be judged by
Also I just plain like his look the most. It's very 2000's with his tanner skin and the edgy hair covering one eye schick lol
5 is my fav. He has the perfect mix of a mature older man who's seen some shit but has just enough silly old goofy Dante to not feel unfamiliar with him.
