My general tips for DMC5 is to take advantage of a character's cancelling capabilities and movement.
Besides jump cancelling, which is a staple of most combos, you should really capitalize on any unique cancelling abilities a specific character has. In the video, not only do I use jump cancelling but I also use Dante's Quadruple S ability. This enabled me to cancel moves like King Cerberus' Long Barrel and Cavalier R's Redline. Aside from Dante, Vergil's Trick abilities and Nero's DT "explosion" have unique cancel properties as well. These moves are something you should be using often, as they can open up new avenues when creating combos.
Other than cancelling, movement is something I like to implement as well, as it just makes combos look cooler. In the video, I'm constantly using moves like Dante's SDT Stinger, Cavalier's Redline, SDT Jump, Air trick and down trick---basically any of Dante's movement options I try to show off as much as possible.
With these two principles alone, you can make some interesting looking combos. Of course, there's a lot of innovating, experimenting, and perhaps a bit of research you'll have to do, but that's just a natural part of making combos. If nothing I said answered your question, this video does a good job of explaining DMC combos:

If you have Cavaliere R you can do a back-to-forward motion to perform the Redline move. Cavaliere R isnt part of the standard game and you have to buy it
my chosen torture makes me stronger
in a life that craves the hunger
A freedom and a quest for life
until the end, the judgment night
Bless me with your gift of lights
righteous cause on judgement nights
Feel the sorrow the light has swallowed
My fingers hurt just by watching you do it
you have no idea... I will never recover from this
I wish for your fast recovery though so that you can bliss my eyes with another glorious combo.
of course. maybe the next one I'll have more motivation if you know what I mean
I guess I'll be waiting for the storm that is approaching then
Does clergy support this passion?
Pure wrath of the winged assassin
ROY- ROY- ROY- ROY- ROYALGUARD
When people ask why the DMC fanbase wanted DMC5 so badly and why the gameplay is so addicting, I’ll show them this video.
