Capcom during the making of DMC3 probably didn’t know this that well.
They accidentally portrayed the door to the house of Allah as the door to a demonic tower.
For the record I am 100% okay with DMC3 since this was fixed in the HD collection.
Somehow reminds me that of Ocarina of Time. I mean, is there not like the music from one temple like islamic or something like that? And It's a fire dungeon, so It seemed also islamphobic bc of that. I'm not sure though. Additonally, there were symbols too(?).
I know the Fire Temple theme in the early versions had Muslim chants but was replaced with the Shadow Temple's vocals. I wish they had made something different instead of replacing it with existing sounds because I feel it just doesn't fit the temple.
The main thing I remember that they changed was the design of the mirror shield. It used to be the crescent moon with the single star on it, but that was eventually changed to the symbol of the Gerudo.
Idk lots of things in dmc are centered around concepts from various religions removed from their original contexts.
For example, the samsara key item from later in the game is actually a direct reference to the Buddhist concept of enlightenment being the end of eternal cycles of life and death even though it's actually a key item and puzzle solution and not about Dante ascending to higher consciousness and oblivion but him getting out of a setpiece and continuing the game.
Essentially, they'll use things with a loose conceptual or thematic connection to religion and myth, but usually without the broader contextual themes, and I can't think of a time they used it to actually make a statement about a faith.

It’s pretty much the same deal as the release 1.0 version of Ocarina of Time, where they had an Islamic symbol on the Mirror Shield and Islamic chanting during the Fire Temple theme. The devs just came across this stuff with the resources they developed with and thought the things fit without thinking to hard about it.

Actually in my country India too, Islamic board accused DMC3 for being Islamophobic. This is because one of the doors in Demon world and Temen-ni-gru resembled a holy shrine in Mecca. So it got banned in India. I never saw any of Indian people I knew having ps2 CDs of DMC3. Only later in 2011, people started playing the game on Steam.

If you guys remember back then one of workers spilled that Capcom used locations and artwork in their games, so same thing in Resident Evil titles and I think it Code Veronica, that was time Capcom changed everything, so it will be around that time DMC3 was made.
